The Yard Pizzeria in The Vale of Glamorgan

We had a really lovely meal this evening. The food, team and ambience were all superb. We shared olives, garlic bread with cheese and nduga and a Greek salad followed by three delicious pizzas for our mains. The Truffata pizza was to die for!!! Thank you so much for looking after us so well. We’ll be back very soon!

Ate here for lunch today with my mum after some shopping. I had the bruschetta tricolore to start followed by the Il Re pizza. We also shared a side of fries. Everything was gorgeous! The pizza dough was fully cooked and the tomatoes were so fresh in everything. The fries were some of the best I've had. On the way out our waitress asked us about where we'd been shopping, and the other waitress who'd seen to us was also friendly and more than happy to box up our leftover pizza. As tables were leaving the staff cleared and disinfected the table straight away. I thought it was good value at £53 for two starters, two pizzas, a side of fries and two soft drinks. My only niggle would be to get rid of the cutlery in pots on the table as it reminded me of a caf which didn't feel in keeping with the venue.

My husband and I were staying in Cowbridge last week with another couple. It was proving difficult in Cowbridge to find a restaurant which was open as most only opened 3 or 4 evenings a week. With 2 nights to go we tried the Yard, only a couple of shops down from our hotel The Bear. What a find! Lovely friendly staff, we felt right at home there. Very busy, buzzy and superb food. If ever we are back that way we will definitely go there. Valerie and Emily are a formidable duo. Thank you to them for making our holiday special on the 2 occasions we ate there

Great time here for a late evening booking. Service was excellent, quick and very friendly - our waitress apologised for the delay in serving us our drinks (we didn’t even think that there was a delay!) because she’d run out to fetch a fresh supply of cucumber for our cocktails, hugely appreciated when they could’ve easily have said that certain drinks we longer available. Food was very, very lovely - fresh and tasty - the take-home cannoli was also a nice finishing touch! New to the area so have been looking for new places to eat and can definitely say that we’ll be back very soon. Thanks guys!

Recently moved to the area and has seen this restaurant on suggested places to eat locally. Booked a table and went. OH my gosh, the food was absolutely incredible, freshly cooked pizza and garlic bread, it wasn’t over cooked or greasy and could tell it was cooked fresh. The staff were super friendly and kept checking in to make sure we were happy with our food/service. Would definitely recommend this place :-)

Wow, we booked this place on an impulse. Seeing the basic signage and name didn't resemble an authentic Italian restaurant, we thought it was going to be an average Pizzeria. When we walked through the door we had an immediate warm welcome, the place had an authentic Italian feel and we were pleasantly surprised to find they had a wood burning oven. There was a long wait on food but was it worth it.. 100%. Food was served piping hot, presented to a very high standard and a bite into the pizza took me back to Naples and that's coming from a Napolitan ! It was full of tasty fresh toppings with proper buffalo mozzarella and the rest of the families dishes didn't disappoint either. Generous portions, fresh ingredients and best of all very reasonable on price, lovely location for Lunch or Dinner. Well worth the travelling time to go and visit this hidden gem. My husband and I were seated outside and enjoyed a lovely pizza and pasta. We have been visiting for years and have only ever experienced good food, wine and service at The Yard. Thanks to Val and Emily!

Walked in as we had not booked and though the place was buzzing a short wait at an outside table with some delightful people was rewarded with an inside table and a full menu becoming available. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and I had the Tarragon Chicken washed down with an excellent Appasimento 14.5% from Puglia. Nice and noisy, which I like though one table sounded as if they were rehearsing for the witches parts in Macbeth. The four of us had a great night and will be back!

Six of us were booked in to the Yard last night, we were met with a limited wine menu & the white wine that we eventually did have was tepid at best, there was no ice so I actually left the restaurant to buy bags of ice in Tesco’s for both us & the restaurant.. the meals although extremely late were fine but the thing that was hardest to swallow was the attitude of the woman in charge, not one apology & the very fact that she had run out of wine, that the ice machine was broken & the meals were so late we had apparently to take that in our stride, but no I don’t think so! I refused to pay the service charge & we were told that we were all not welcome to return to the Yard. Now can I just point out here that at no time were any of us rude or disrespectful & in all honesty a bit of tactful people skills & an apology would have meant that I would have dropped the matter, but not once did she apologise or was even pleasant! So the yard you lost six regular patrons last night and if you continue with that manor of disrespect then I suspect that you are due to lose many more so think on.

The most fantastic food and service experience as always. Sitting in the sunshine with perfectly chilled Whispering Angel and delicious food. This restaurant never fails to impress.

My friends and I had a lovely experience at The Yard last night. We were there for drinks and food. The service was quick, and the food was delicious. The staff were very busy, and were attending to a table of very loud and garish ladies, but even as this was happening, they managed to stay professional and helpful, and our experience was amazing. We stopped off at the Yard Pizzeria on a recent visit to Cowbridge and were impressed with the range of food and drinks as well as the warm welcome. We stayed for a few drinks and although we didn’t get to try the food, it looked great and they offered a wide variety of tasty choices. The range of drinks on offer was good, including imported Italian beers and some very decent wine (including on tap Prosecco). Would definitely recommend.

Only cost me £5 for a small bolognese here, which did fill my hungry belly, but it didn’t taste particularly exciting, or do anything particularly original. I did like the beer, and service was sweet (if a little too sugary at times), but I wasn’t blown away, and for that reason won’t be stopping be anytime soon.

Called in for set lunch 2 course. £10. Had the best Italian dish I’ve ever had- I’m well travelled. Had a starter so delicious. Staff are fabulous. Will definitely go back very soon

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED First time at this superb Italian restaurant in the heart of Cowbridge. Varied menu and good value. Atmosphere is warm and friendly. Starters were two different bruschetta- both equally delicious. I had the most delicious salmon ravioli - amazing taste, a sauce to die for and home made bread on the side. My husband had lasagne, equally as good. Portion sizes are generous too. We finished with coffee and a plate of the most yummy Italian biscuits- the pistachio canoli type pastry is not to be missed.

We were in Cowbridge for the food and drink festival and it was so busy everywhere. We stumbled across The Yard and there were people sat outside and it had a good look so we went in. The staff greeted us immediately and told us there was a table becoming available outside shortly, so we were able to enjoy the sun which was lovely. We had drinks and snacks which were all lovely. It was a really nice visit and we’ll definitely go back again in the future!

We are friends who love to eat and talk. We have been to many teas all over the area.We thought we'd try something different and we weren't disappointed. The Yard offered an Italian Afternoon Tea which was amazing. 2 courses an Italian board of olives, meats and bread all perfect.tTnen a large scone each with lemon curd and marzipone cheese and a slate with 3 dessert cakes.The staff were great. We popped in on a Tuesday night as a family with a 14 and 11 year old. Delicious cheesy garlic bread to start and super pizzas.On top of this special praise should go for the staff going the extra mile for our daughter who is Coeliac. They had run out of gluten free pizza bases but they went out to buy gluten free pasta which they cooked with the most delicious bolognese sauce for her. It was very much appreciated. Decided to try The Yard, the resturant has been in the town for ages and I've not yet been (shameful!!), however having gone once will definitely be back. Lovely new location, good atmosphere, excellent choice of pizza and about 5 pasta choices. Clear plates which is always a good sign!

Very lovely waitresses. Drinks lovely. Food was average and they did take a while to prepare when there weren’t many people.

We did go originally when it was located elsewhere in the High Street and we did not find the food that great. Yet, as we went this time, the food was very tasty and the waitress that we had was very sufficient and was a very good and grateful lady that we thought was excellent. However, we managed to get our starters and mains at the same time - which we thought was not great as it had obviously not had great communication between the waiters and chefs.

Had a lovely lunch with the family, Waitress was lovely and the food was great. Irritated that my Daughter thought the Yards Arancini were better tha the ones I make! .. but she let me try a bit and I will grudgingly concede victory to the Yard :) Loved the local beer and the girls really appreciated the lovely non alcoholic Mocktails. The Pizza dough could possibly have done with a glug more oil in the mixing stage ... but it was still brilliant and I can hardly moan as I have been making Pizza dough for years and have still yet to make a batch I am totally happy with ... always tinkering! Desserts ... heavenly! Lovely place!

Today was our first time trying out the Yard as it was recommended by many. Must say it was the best Italian we have eaten in a long time. All the staff were very welcoming and attentive. My partner and I have been to The Yard plenty of times for food and it’s always been delicious. We decided to book the afternoon tea as we’re not overly keen on the traditional version offered by most places. Safe to say could not have been happier. Delicious food, lovely selection and excellent value for money. Safe to say this won’t be the last time we book for afternoon tea here.

Popped in for lunch with a friend on Saturday spur of the moment and we so glad We did...... we received a warm welcome from Paul the manager, who greeted us and provided us with menus and wine lists...... we sat and enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine while deciding what to eat...... the food was exceptional, fresh and tasty and full of flavour..... Paul and his team we're very attentive and made dining a pleasurable experience, we will definitely be returning in the very near future!!

The move to the High Street location has been transformational in generating business. It is much deserved as the pizzas are great (perfect base) and the staff work incredibly hard.

Their new venue is very comfortable and modern. The staff are all very attentive and clearly enjoy what they do. There was no pasta dishes on the money so mains are solely pizza. There's a generous selection to choose from. We had antipasti to start which was very tasty and I had the Italian meaty feast pizza and my husband the tongue twister. Both were delicious and full of flavour. With a bottle of red and one beer the bill came to just under £60. The quality of the ingredients and wine made this a reasonable cost. There was a lovely atmosphere there and I would definitely return.

Being Italian we are fussy with pizza and only want the best that reminds us of home. This pizza place was found by chance on a night out with family (2 couples) the atmosphere, staff and pizza was all amazing. They source real Italian/Sicilian ingredients and show passion and respect for the culture. We highly recommend this cute little place and don’t leave without trying the gelato. Just like we have in Sicily! We would definitely make the trip again just to visit! Buon Appetito

We had a last minute meal out here over the weekend, I liked the relaxed atmosphere the staff were welcoming and friendly but seemed a bit rushed off their feet. The pizza was okay but the dough balls seemed as though they had barely been heated up, the dough was quite raw we didn't eat them

We enjoyed a lovely meal - good pizza with yummy toppings, and nice starters. The service could have been improved - our starters and mains arrived at virtually the same time (after a 30 minute wait), and once we had finished our starters and first round of drinks, our dishes and empty glasses were never cleared from the table. However I'm sure these are just teething problems as part of the new move to the high street. I would also recommend that you produce a drinks menu as we didn't know what you had to offer, nor their prices. But overall we had a good time and would come again, thank you.

I travel quite a lot for work and I get to eat out often. I must say I was very impressed with the pizzas. The dough was thin and crunchy and the sauce just perfect. Toppings are top quality. I had a chat with Paul, the owner, he’s really friendly and he knows what he’s doing !! Keep up with the good job you’re doing guys! I will be back

We visited The Yard on a Saturday night with 6 children and 5 adults. The service was great, our waitress was lovely and looked after our party. We really enjoyed the food too. The quality of the pizza bases and toppings are excellent. I recommend this restaurant for eating in and takeaways.

We called in around 6pm on a Sunday evening. It was very quiet and we just wanted to grab an early meal before going to a gig in Cardiff. We really enjoyed our pizzas, all freshly created in the open kitchen before our eyes by Paul, the owner. We got chatting to Paul who told us they were moving venues up into the High Street soon, and gave us lots of great info about the area when we told him we were looking to move there. Pizza bases were authentic and the toppings fresh. I like pizza this way, very tasty but not leaving you feel like you have eaten unhealthily. Anyway, we will definitely return. Give this independent business a try rather than heading for a chain restaurant, the food was good!

We didn't go to the restaurant but ordered two pizza take-aways on Sunday evening. The pizzas were outstanding. Lovely base and a great choice of toppings. Very good value for money and only 15 minutes before we went to collect them (they do deliver). We'll certainly go again. Thanks so much all

Nice thin crusty bread but the topping of the margherita was unbelievably thin.... .disappointing really. It was a deal on a Tues evening of two twelve inch pizzas for the price of one....I could see why now.

I must say this had to be the worst pizzas I’ve ever tasted. McD’s has more taste, grizzly beef, no pizza base tomato, absolutely a place to be avoided. I will never go back. It gets 1 point as I can’t do zero!

After several pleasant visits to The Yard, I visited on a very cold January evening, with a girl friend to celebrate a very special Birthday. There were only two other occupied tables. The service was poor, in that there was no follow up with offering seasoning, parmesan etc, No follow up on how we were enjoying our meals. We had to call for seasoning and parmesan. The pasta dishes we chose were OK. Then it got colder and colder. No-one came to ask if we wanted deserts or coffee. The doors were opened wide and we were frozen out! We donned coats! This was between 8.30pm and 8.45pm. We paid up and retired to The Bear for coffee and a warm up!! Sadly have not returned and probably won't despite the excellent reviews on here.

Great selection of delicious pizzas with a local twist such as the Pedwar Caws made with 4 Welsh cheeses! Friendly service, local beers, and the kids love the sweet chocolate and strawberry pizzas for desert. Our friend's little boy fancied pasta and it was no trouble for the chef to adapt one of their pasta dishes for him to create Jasper Pasta. We will be back for more :)

We had my daughters 7th birthday party at The Yard. We booked it for a Sunday afternoon when they are usually closed so we had the place to ourselves. The staff were brilliant! Really welcoming and catered to what we wanted.The 10 girls all made their own pizzas, choosing from a huge range of toppings, and then ate them. Afterwards having yummy vanilla ice cream (although I had a G&T sorbet which was amazing and my husband had one of the nicest peanut butter ice creams we’ve ever tasted). There was also enough squash to fill a swimming pool!We played our own music through our Spotify account and their blue tooth speakers and the main area had been cleared of tables so the girls could dance and play. Plus they provided colouring materials for the few quiet moments that were needed! An absolutely amazing afternoon- can’t recommend highly enough!!!!

Went with my husband and two friends, none of us had been to The Yard before but it certainly won’t be our last visit- what an amazing place. The staff are lovely, Max - the owner makes all the pizza sauces in the restaurant, all the ingredients are fresh and you can tell, the food is fantastic. I’m vegetarian and there is so much choice for veggies but also everything can be made gluten free. There is of course lots of choice for meat lovers, there is also a specials board. The desserts are amazing and Max will also tell you about the ones that aren’t on the written menu, which you will definitely want to leave room for. Will definitely be going back, the food is too good to stay away, fantastic.

The Yard is fast becoming a family favourite. The food is delicious and you can tell that they’re using quality ingredients. Went there tonight for my son’s birthday and straight way the owners invited him to make his own pizza which he loved! The pizza in the photo is known as Lily’s pizza and it’s my daughter’s absolute favourite. Will be back again soon!

We have now eaten at The Yard on several occasions and really can’t fault it. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and welcoming. A firm family favourite.
