I needed a spot to set down, do some admin work and make a few phone calls at 'Alexandra Palace' station and as I left the station was dismayed not to find one place even closely suitable. There was this place in the station that looked like a flower stall but on closer investigation it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for - The Yard. The space is not large, probably can seat 12-15 people only and the decor is contemporary, baskets, wooden chests, twig type stuff, home decor in vogue shall we say. I had a coffee and a blueberry muffin and surprisingly. they were not as expensive as I thought they were going to be (£5.70) The muffin was moist and fresh, could taste the blueberries and large enough not to be disappointed. The coffee was yum, not bitter, and served in appropriate crock ware. The Yard had music playing in the background, and the guy had. the nous to turn the music down whilst I was on the phone using his own initiative, I really appreciated that. The place was spotless, appealing and will highly recommend. Just one criticism - without having 6 foot letters spelling out 'C O F F E E' outside you need to find a way of signposting the place in the most tasteful way. How? I have no idea, but I nearly missed you, I'm sure you can work it out.

Ally Pally’s Hidden Gem! This small family-run business is an absolute delight. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the cosiest atmosphere and charming decor. Not only is the coffee delicious, but the true gem is the lovely lady who runs the place, Bonnie. She adds a touch of warmth that will make anyone’s day! Whether you’re just passing through the area or lucky enough to be a local resident, I highly recommend giving this hidden gem a visit. It’s a real treat!

This place has everything you would like to have to share a moment with family, friends or just by yourself, there are books you can read while enjoying a nice cup of coffee or smoothie, great music, plants gives this place natural harmony and you can try their pastel the Nata or their delicious muffins, their pastries here a very tasty and Fresh too, it’s a nice cosy place with a relax atmosphere, I felt welcome with genuine kindness by the staff who prepared my coffee with much love and care and it was enjoyable to drink. Nice place to get your coffee for your train journey or to come and chill. I will Definitely come back.

Awful coffee - so very hot - made without any enthusiasm. The place looks so charming and appealing, but it is wasted on terrible coffee and and service to match. There is no music and the cafe sits empty, no doubt due to a reputation for disinterest and lack of care. The woman doesn’t greet you from her book as she sits reading, and you feel as though her presence here is her punishment and for her, this work is such a chore. The treats are delicious (because they come from a third party) and I inhaled 2 pasta de Nata one with raspberry. But I threw the coffee out on the tracks while I waited for my train. Utter waste of £3

I don't like over the top customer service but the very least I expect is a hello and a thank you. Zero words from the girl behind the counter from start to finish, and this was around 10am, plenty of time to wake up and put your game face on, coffee is fine but I won't bother with them again.

Consistently miserable staff, barely even able to utter a hello when you go in, or sometimes even say anything. Often the most you get is a look and then the card machine presented for payment. I don't need for everyone to be overly enthusiastic about working in a coffee shop but a bit of friendliness and simple acknowledgement, maybe even a smile is pretty basic. I recently moved and live locally but after several tries with the same 'welcome', I now avoid this place on that basis alone, even if it is in an incredibly convenient location. Oh, and don't expect to get any of the dairy alternatives that are listed on the menu, thry never have any in.

Gorgeous little café, worth turning up for your train half an hour early or even missing it! I had the vegetable frittata, which was fully loaded with roasted veg and feta, hands down the most delicious I've had, with the beetroot salad......scrumptious and great value for the quality. Wish I had bought cake, the carrot and walnut looked sensational.

This sweet , cosy cafe is run by such a friendly family - a mother and her six children plus their friends. The cakes are all home made and I have often enjoyed talking to the people running it or other customers who are just sitting having coffee sharing a table . The cafe's so small that you can't help meeting new people each time you go! However if you don't want to be sociable that's fine too! I've often been and just read the news on my phone... I definitely recommend the food. I've now moved to east London and am returning to Ally Pally especially to meet a friend there!

Freshly opened when Alexandra Palace Railway Station was refurbished mid-2014, The Yard is a very welcome addition to the area, not just for commuters, but for locals too. Serving home-cooked seasonal food, including salads, sandwiches and a range of delicious cakes, the family run café is an intimate place to enjoy lunch, meet a friend for a coffee or to grab a hot drink and snack for the train journey. Open in time for the first train of the day and into the evening, there's always a warm welcome from the friendly staff. You can also pick up one of the home-made preserves to enjoy at home - I'm already addicted to their lemon marmalade - as well as deli items and cut flowers.

This is the kind of place that you want to see succeeding, but, at the same time, you would hate for it to become popular and crowded. For me, the first thing that matters in a coffee shop is the coffee... The Yard has exquisite coffee. All other treats, cakes, muffins, and food are absolutely fantastic but really irrelevant to me, the coffee is brilliant, period. I take my child there with other friends every weekend and we have never been disappointed. We love the decor as well! Such a great little place.

I would honestly give it 5 stars if the coffee was bit better- I love the new wave of coffee shops that have opened in the last few years and if only the Yard got a better machine and trained their staff- I and many others would get so many more coffees from there!!! I discovered this place about six weeks ago and I have been very regular since; at least 4 times a week. The owner of the cafe is absolutely lovely. Always wears a smile and really chatty. However there is a lady who apparently works for the family who I feel is very cold and unattentive towards me which is a shame and as a result I feel uncomfortable coming here even though their food is faultless. This evening I came to get a chai latte and an apple slice and asked for the slice warm. It was almost cold and the chai latte was lukewarm. I asked the gentleman to heat it up a little more and it came back with no apology.I came here after work a few days ago only to be met with a sign on the closed shutters saying 'back in 5 mins' with the lady walking towards the train platform!! Not impressed :( However, since I love the food so much I was willing to wait (about 15 mins) for it to be opened again. Finally I ordered a courgette and carrot slice to take away; again, absolutely delicious. However, when I paid for it she pushed the box towards me and looked at me. I had to ask for a bag and cutlery. She gave it to me and said 'enjoy'. It's a shame my review has to be so negative but I feel that the cafe would be better run if the owners were in charge throughout the day.Other than that, the food is absolutely amazing- 5*

My family and I visited this wonderful quaint family run cafe, all the way from the North East of England, after a weary day sightseeing in London on foot. My daughter, who is studying at Uni in London, is a good friend of the family who run this establishment so it had come highly recommended. We were welcomed by Bonnie and another lovely member of staff and nothing was too much trouble. We sat round the big farmhouse table underneath the most lovely chandelier and had a selection of the most scrumptious home made cakes, sandwiches and pasta. We all ordered different drinks so we could sample all the lovely flavours. The Berry smoothie was absolutely delicious and I can honestly say the hot chocolate was the BEST I've ever tasted in any cafe, anywhere, ever! It's the kinda place you'd want to stay in all day all snuggled up if it was a cold rainy day outside, which it was for us. Equally on a warm summers day I imagine it would be just as delightful in every way! The cafe sells almost anything you could wish for, even fresh fruit, jams, candles and flowers! I hear the family are also opening another yard cafe in Palmers Green very soon! How lucky the residents and travellers alike will be to have such a lovely place to meet friends/family for coffee etc right on their doorstep! It's a shame we can't visit more often but whenever we're in London we'll be sure to stop by! Absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it!

This café has only just opened and already I have visited it twice. The new owners have done an amazing job of converting a small space into an oasis for wearied travellers. It is so much more than a station café and well worth visiting if you are on a trip to the Alexandra Palace. It is a long walk up the hill to the Palace, so you need some refreshment before you start. However, it is NOT open on Sundays, but is open very early Monday to Saturday. When you climb the steps from the platform, you need to turn right along the footbridge to the ticket office, where the café is located, not left to the Palace. You wont regret it.The café is beautifully laid out with flowers, cakes, fresh fruit, wholesome sandwiches, light meals and home made savouries and, of course, fresh coffee. It is aiming at the discerning customer, very definitely not a greasy spoon, but is not charging high prices. For this reason it is actually worth visiting even if you are not catching any trains, because the other cafes of this type in the area - and there are several - are much dearer. The large central table makes for a friendly atmosphere where people chat to each other, often for the first time. The proprietors are warm and welcoming and knowledgeable about all of the food which they have prepared or has been prepared for them by relatives. I travel a lot and have been to many station cafes, but this is the first one I have even thought of actually recommending to others. When you have had your coffee and cake, cross the railway footbridge, turn right to the first bus stop and catch the very frequent W7 to take you up to the Palace.
