The Karamel kindly agreed to host my 21st birthday party, and I can confirm that it was the most fantastic night it could possibly have been !! The staff were so friendly, willing to help with any request, and they served up the most incredible vegan food (as a vegan, I was delighted that all my non-vegan friends kept coming up to me joking about how the food was tempting them to the vegan side...). We also had wonderful drinks all evening. We had live music and the venue was beautifully set up. It truly couldn't have been better, and I couldn't recommend the Karamel enough. Thank you so much !!

Hmmm.well the vegan food was great and the band we went to see (Kong Fusion) played a great set! However dreadful bar service and extremely limited expensive drinks choice! The physically cold and soulless atmosphere resulted in us leaving early. Disappointed.

Karamel N22 have great jazz and fusion music on Thurs & Fri nights, excellent new talent like Mercury Award nominee Rio Kai bassist tonight who performed a terrific set of original pieces plus others by Monk and Pat Metheny with his trio. Food is Indian vegetarian and a bottle of wine is under £20 so great value! Sound in this high ceiling venue is very good, a real treat, highly recommended! A few minutes walk from Wood Green tube station on Piccadilly Line. Music was only £10 a head so a bargain for us Londoners! Go now!

Torus played some wonderful modern jazz tonight, mostly 70s stuff like Keith Jarrett and Steps Ahead / Mike Manieri and McCoy Tyner .... all great tunes! The band run by Mick Sexton had the usual players of Jonathan Gee keys and Trevor on drums - plus newbie sax guest Tony Woods. The wine was good too and the veggie snacks of spring rolls and samosas. Great value night out as it was only £6 online Early Bird ticket .... so check out their site for upcoming gigs - some are even free like the Noah Stoneman session on 25th March.

Visited here on a Sunday for a family meal. There was six of us and there was plenty of room though we had booked. The space is large and very relaxed. You order at the bar and there is a large blackboard with that day’s food. There was four options for the roast that day. Four of us had the almond Wellington and two had the ‘chicken’ pie. They were both served with roast potatoes and vegetables. They were both really nice and even the non vegans in our party loved it. We all had the mixed berry crumble which was also delicious. I’d definitely recommend this place and would go back.

First time a restaurant manager told us off few times to keep our 4 years old children at the table to avoid accidents. We were the only people at the restaurant after a children story telling event. Have to say the children were very well behaved, no screaming, no disturbing others. A shame, we used to love the place and their music and event program together with the food. Very bad feeling to be unwelcome as local young family willing to spend a weekend early afternoon eating vegan food. Will not come back.

I am giving a mixed review here , dependent on your purpose for visiting. Came here during the London Jazz Festival. It is clearly a popular venue locally, but it should stay off the jazz circuit which requires respect and appreciation from customers. Many of the regular customers treat it like a pub bar talking very loudly. The family next to us gave up and walked out at the first opportunity, then another couple, we left when we had finished our next drinks. Karamel has to get a grip on this, and make a jazz music night which contains ballads and solos a quiet zone when the acts are on, it would be different if rock music was being played. If you are going for a meal when there is no band playing, you will not be disappointed. However:- If you are going to appreciate music you will be annoyed, especially as there is little to do otherwise in this sleepy part of North London and will need to head back into the West End.

We has vegan cheeseboard to start - which was amazing including (vegan) brie, blue cheese with relishes & pickles. We had vegan burgers with home made chips - amazing - practically indistinguishable from meat - very tasty. Also local beers very good - I enjoyed muswell hill ipa. Sometimes they have live music, and there is there is a photo gallery there. A great place to eat - great vegan food and drinks (not just beer) - and lovely informal atmosphere. Try it!

Went there with some friends, it's got a good reputation for music and other events. I generally don't write negative reviews but... the place is scruffy and a bit dirty and has a hippie feel to it. Why do hippies think being clean is a problem? Didn't know the menu is vegan, which is ok but it wasn't great food as vegan food goes - validated by my friend who is vegetarian. The vegan sausage was bland and dry - you get better ones in Tescos. Bit overpriced too. Tried to order a coffee with 'real milk' but got a lecture on animal welfare. Chill out guys, why so angry? Go for the entertainment, not the food. And be careful you don't get in a debate out vegan values, gets a bit scary.

I attended a birthday party for my sister in law. I am a committed carnivore and didn't fancy a vegan restaurant at all. When I got there early I wasn't overly impressed by the industrial chic style of decor either, even if it was trendy. Ok it used to be a factory so no surprise there. However as it started to fill up I started to appreciate it more and the owners were very committed and approachable. Despite the obvious lack of meat based products, the food was really delicious and plentiful and the whole evening went great. It hasn't converted me but did show being vegan doesn't have to be boring

It's quite a big space but still cosy inside and inviting and I was happy to hear my favourite reggae music playing! We ordered two meals, Pasta alla Siciliana and a Mexican bean burger with (homemade) chips. We enjoyed them both, though we didn't really feel any chili in the pasta, (it was on the ingredient list). The portion size was really good and we went away full and content and will be back to try more vegan dishes soon!

Went here for a friend's birthday, because she is Vegan, so wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. The staff are helpful and the food is cooked to order. Both the pizza and burgers were hot and a very good size. The burgers and pizzas are £10 each. The burger came with home cooked chips which were very enjoyable. The burger patty does need a bit more texture but is fine when eaten with the included salad. Even the latte was good.

Second time here; first time for Sunday lunch. Booked the evening before - it was quite busy - really mixed crowd - families, couples, groups. The atmosphere is no frills & quite informal - order at the bar (but good marks for service as we didn't have to wait long for food to be served). The food is fantastic vegan comfort food. We shared a stuffed vine leaves and humous starter plus some olives. All was tasty and a substantial portion. We then had one Sunday Roast and one Bangers and Mash. Very large portions. Lots of veg with the roast - some better than others (didn't really need unremarkable cauliflower and broccoli) - mashed carrot & swede lovely and roast potatoes standout. Then we shared a apple/blackberry crumble - again very large portion. Looking at other tables the pizzas looked good too. Aspalls draught cider better than many similar places. We loved it and will be back. Inexpensive - around £35 all in for the two of us.

Came here on our first night to London. the first staff we encountered were very friendly and we thought it had a lovely laid back atmosphere. Went in for the Vegan food, which was okay and were told there was jazz later. After our dinner we were waiting over 45 minutes for our deserts. About 10 mins after musicians setup we were approached, first by a gentleman (we thought here's the manager) telling us there was a £10 cover charge for the music. We explained we were waiting for desert, so he left..telling us to pay him if we wanted to stay after dessert... . Still waiting for our food about 5 mins later... when a second man comes over guns blazing telling us that if we were sitting there and weren't even going to bother to pay for the music to stop talking and laughing. Other people talking were ignored. We were so shocked and uncomfortable with this abrupt and unwelcoming behaviour, that we decided to abandon dessert and leave. We explained our predicament to the man behind the bar who had been very friendly on our arrival. He explained that it was an event night and cost 10 quid and that this was posted on fb. Well as we went in for Vegan food and hadn't been on fb, we were blissfully unaware of the cover charge and at no point prior to this had anyone mentioned the charge He insisted on returning the cost of dessert which we weren't bothered about.. but thank you. We just wanted to get out, only to find we couldn't open the door so friendly man from behind bar helped us out and then told people usually use the side doors which we hadn't seen. Totally unexpected. We never got a chance to ask why they had a marketing display of leather shoes on the wall?

I have been going to Karamel ever since it opened and I intend to keep going back because it has it all going on. It is much more than a restaurant - it's a café, a nightclub, a disco, a music venue, an art gallery, a centre for community activities as well as simply being a cool place to hang out. Since it's early days, Karamel has grown and improved, providing excellent food and drink and entertainment. And yes, Karamel is 100% vegan making it a mecca for those who follow a plant based diet for whatever reason, but it's not the stereotypical hippy hangout that just serves lentils and mung beans. Non vegans will be delighted with the menu. Check out Karamel's Sunday roasts, the star dish being a totally delicious Wellington Nut Roast made with smoked tofu, chestnuts and almonds and accompanied by all the roast dinner trimmings you could want including roasties, red cabbage and onion gravy. Karamel hosts burger nights and pizza nights, catering for every taste. So grab a table, sit back and enjoy a tasty meal and a glass or two of vino or relax with a coffee and cake and enjoy the spacious ambience of the venue. You'll see why it won a Time Out award in 2015.

Today my friend and me were came back after 1yr and half.. to see those lovely show for kids that they are doing for ree (donation are welcome of course (and we made)) every months! Vegan cake really good (we are not vegan)but unfortunately today as the other day the service at Cafe was slow and poor this time we didn't get anything as the batista was late and the lady who took the place wasn't so happy to do this.. we like to have our drink and actually enjoy before the show... let's see next month.. you guys are really good just improve a bit the service for those events with those coffee addict mums

Looking for a place to eat and relax for the evening, other reviews led us to Karamel and what a brilliant surprise. Really chilled, friendly and inviting, just like the staff. Owner Frank was great to talk to and a fantastic chef as our food was outstanding. Really tasty, large portions and great value. I only wish we had room for dessert but there's our excuse for returning! We'll definitely be back and hope to catch an act there too. Nice to see a group meeting of London Vegans happening too which looked really friendly and well attended. Highly recommended

I didn't even notice it was a Vegan restaurant until after I had ordered lunch. I've now started coming here once every couple of weeks - the menu is varied and everything i have chosen so far as been really good, if a little under seasoned.I can recommend the soups and pizza.Everything seems freshly prepared/made and although it is quiet at lunchtimes, this isn't a bad thing. Some good music being played, a nice airy room and friendly service. The best bit - it's REALLY inexpensive - you can eat well here for less than £ 10.Overall - a solid 4/5.

Been here several times and throughly enjoy their vegan Sunday roast which is served all day. Nut Wellington, roast potatoes and a changing variety of veg, delicious gravy and full piping hot plate. Approx £11. Great vegan ales and lager on tap and all sorts of other drinks too plus deserts and alternatives to roasts. Relaxed environment, informal, completely unpretentious, often music playing on CD and different art work to view. They also have a lot of live music nights. This is a rare cultural spot in Wood Green, hidden away, and must be nurtured and supported by locals and those from the surrounding areas like Crouch End, Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill and Bounds Green. If you enjoy great beer and food in a relaxed arty place and are vegan, veggie or pro-veg then you will love this place.

Never judge a book by its cover. This restaurant has some seriously tasty food to offer. The service is always quick and the man behind the bar is very friendly. He gives discount to regular customers :) Its a shame that this restaurant isn't busier because it deserves every customer it gets. The Karamel Club rocky road is famous, and rightly so, as its probably the best thing going in Wood Green. Amazing value for money. Give it a try.

Came here with a non vegan friend for vegan roast dinner. It was so good we came again to try the pizza again really delicious. It took a little while to be served but it was worth the wait and the staff are very friendly. Again good beer and wine options available and great desserts. Can't wait to come again on a live music night!!

As it turned out, we chose to visit on a night booked by a private function, who did not want food, so the kitchen was unstaffed and not serving. The bar was though, and that kept us occupied with a range of proper (vegan) beer (in addition to wines, spirits and lagers) until the manager arrived. As he could not bare the thought of a couple of vegans going without, he very kindly cooked us the best vegan pizzas I've had for many a year. Great food, very reasonably-priced, lovely beer, surroudings and kind staff. Couldn't be better really.

Karamel cafe was the perfect venue for our daughter's third birthday. Frank and all the staff were incredibly helpful and really pulled out all the stops to make the morning run smoothly. The party food was delicious and served on time. Will be back!

Despite a very busy Mothering Sunday, and a 40th birthday going on, we had the loveliest afternoon with great food, music and atmosphere. This place is a bit different, a little chaotic during busy periods but this simply adds to its charm at the same time. I am so pleased and proud to have a vegan place on my door stop, nice work!

I recently enjoyed a great evening of jazz at the Karamel restaurant in Wood Green, London N22. I arrived early (for the music) and when I walked into the restaurant I didn't really know what to make of it, there were a lot of student types there and they kept coming and I thought 'are all these people here for the jazz?' afraid not, because at about 8 pm they all disappeared en masse to a back room where there was apparently some sort of theatre performance. So the place suddenly became quiet until gradually more people turned up who were indeed there for the jazz, which as already stated was really good. Superb performances from everyone, Mark Crooks (clarinet and tenor sax), Colin Oxley (guitar), Dave Green (bass) and Stu Butterfield (Drums) and a special guest for the last set Henry Lowther (trumpet) this guy is an absolute legend. Well, if you think this is a review about the Karamel Restaurant's food, service etc., I can't really comment. Unfortunately, there seems to be one major ingredient missing from the menu, that is meat! because this is a Vegan Restaurant. Now before all you vegan's start berating me I just want to say that if this was vegetarian I may have given it a try, but I find the whole ethos of vegan a bit extreme (for me anyway), Anyway, just to say as a jazz venue its great especially if they continue to attract the high standard of musicianship that was present on Thursday last(3rd March). As for the ambiance, well, from thinking it may be a kind of drop in centre for Greenpeace or Friends of the Earth as the evening went on the atmosphere became much more like that of a jazz club so I will definitely be going again (if they allow me in that is).Maybe not for the food, but hey maybe I will give it a try after all.

Two people (mums) told me about Karamel in the last month and we decided to give it a go on Sunday morning. I had been told it was very child friendly. True. There are high chairs, space between the tables to fit a pushchair, enough noise so that you are not embarrassed if your little one is a bit vocal... The young man who took care of us was very helpful and friendly. So was the owner. Clearly, there had been a big party the night before (I'm thinking we should book a babysitter and go to one of them: looking at the program and the venue, it looks like there is good music and great atmosphere in the evening) and everyone was waking up slowly when we arrived but we still felt welcome. Food is served from 1pm on Sundays. Soya milk or almond milk in the coffee. We are not vegan nor vegetarian but we were happy to try. We also tried the specialty: the lazy Sunday roast. We could see the cooks in the kitchen preparing it. It was excellent and we finished our plates completely. The chocolate cake was maybe a bit dry but really, it was also good. There were a few toys to entertain the children. A beautiful painting exhibition on the walls. There is a piano in the other room at the back. It's very easy access from Wood Green tube station or car. We actually parked just nearby as it was Sunday and there is no parking restriction on Sundays. My only reservation would be... the toilets. I am told the men ones are dark and cold. As for the women ones, they are OK but I was wondering if the table at the entrance was for changing babies or to stock cleaning products (there were plastic gloves on it and it is just a normal table). Well, we will certainly spread the word and come back. Also, we did not have change and we paid by card. There is no possibility to add a tip on the card machine but otherwise, we would have happily left one (and not just because there is a note saying that good tippers are better lovers ;-) Maybe because of Valentine's day...)as we thought all the staff was attentive and friendly. See you soon. Thanks!

I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian... but I am a lover of good food.If you are looking for good food, served in a cool location, with great service and staff, then look no further. This place has everything I look for in a night out. Interesting and varied entertainment! Interesting and varied cuisine! The main thing I can recommend about this place is that it has an amazing 'vibe'... which is that thing that you can't quite put your finger on but definitely makes you want to go back for more! Oh, and for London... great value for money!

We only realised that this was a vegan restaurant when we wanted to order coffee and were told that they only had soya milk. This had not been a problem as the spicy kale soup and the falafel were both ok.The venue is probably buzzing in the evening, but the large event space felt cold and too impersonal in a fairly empty lunchtime.

Karamel was the perfect party venue. Great space, delicious food (people raved about it) and relaxed atmosphere. Frank and Louise were accommodating and flexible, helping make sure I had the party I wanted. We danced until 2am. House DJs Josh and Baroness Bamberforth were lots of fun and got everyone on their feet. The bar staff were lovely. I couldn't have had a better celebration. And it was cost effective too. Thank you to everyone at Karamel.

Went to see a friend play some jazz - and was surprised by this hidden little venue. The Good was great (I am not a vegan, so, was somewhat hesitant - I know - I'm an ignorant snob), and at a reasonable price. Great live jazz too - top names.

First time visit to this vegan restaurant and music venue in Wood Green, and it was just great! The restaurant is airy and spacious with a high ceiling and the acoustics were really good. The twice-a-month jazz (check out jazzinlondon.net for latest gigs) was very good value at £8 a head, and great beer for £4 a pint.Tonight we had the smoothest sax in town from Stan Sulzmann and the wonderful pianist Kate Williams - plus guest trumpet star Henry Lowther. Terrific evening of laid back chilled jazz, just perfect. We will be back soon - the food by the way is amazing value

My husband and I searched the internet for a vegan place to eat after our visit to Ally Pally and were thrilled to find a new place open just a mile from the Palace. With fingers crossed that the food would be as good as the reviews we'd read, we were not disappointed. The lunch menu was written on the board with half a dozen options and all looked appealing. We had a hard time choosing, but I settled on the Indian Thali while my husband went for the Jamaican Patty. Both dishes were excellent. There were plenty of wines and beers and other cocktails on offer. And we bought some chocolate cake and mince pies to take away with us for later. Both were amazing. The cake was super moist and probably the best vegan chocolate cake I've ever had. The atmosphere at Karamel was very open and spacious and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We can't wait to go back again.

We really, really enjoyed our visit here! We had friends down from up north, and had heard such good things about Little Mercies that we decided to try it for a Friday night catch up. Firstly, the cocktails are gorgeous. Really tasty, well made. Then - the small plates…omg, so so good. Stand outs include the fried lasagna, the focaccia and the lamb ribs. Amazing. We’re already looking forward to going back.
