The Yard in Ards

Walked in and they were pretty busy. As first timers to the cafe there was no welcome, no info about whether to wait to be seated or find a spot for ourselves. We hung around the door unsure and uncomfortable. The waiter, a young man dressed in sportswear, told us there were very busy, very shortstaffed (as if it was our problem/fault) and that there would be a wait. Didn’t say where, so we still hung around the door feeling like awkward, unwelcome and unwanted miscreants. Eventually he cleared and cleaned a table for us upstairs, handed us a menu and we had to find the spot for ourselves. The menu was uninspiring, we weren’t offered a drink when we sat down and the table was sticky and still had gloop on from whoever had used it previously. Totally negative experience. We walked out before we had the chance to order. If there is a manager reading this, an apology would be appropriate.

Our small party of 4 stopped here for breakfast before catching the ferry and continuing our cycle ride around Strangford Lough. Plenty of parking for bicycles. Great choice of breakfast, we all had something difference and which we all enjoyed, large pots of tea! Friendly staff.

Dropped in for lunch today... good choice of food served... excellent quality and portions were large... you will not leave here hungry!

We've just moved into the area & decided to nip into Portaferry for a walk around. The heaven's opened so we called into The Yard for a coffee and scone, as it looked very nice from the outside.My cappuccino was lovely & the scone was quite delicious ... the inside is very nicely laid out & the staff were very friendly.Looking forward to going back for lunch some day.

Waiting 30 minutes for service. Ordered Hawaiian burger with chips. Burger comes first after 15 minutes, chips 10 minutes later! Dirty tables. Looks pretty nice but inside is terrible. Service forgot manners.

Tried the pizza shop next door on monday and have nothing but a blissful reveiw. Pizza was beautiful and i enjoyed watching the girls working making them right infront of me, the staff was warm, friendly and were full of craic. Food was a reasonable price and was very quick service. Will be back again next time im in portaferry!

After a 50 minute wait for for our food (chicken and chips, “catch of the day” and chips) we were very disappointed when the food came as it was very burnt. i had a few of my chips but left the chicken basically untouched as it was not enjoyable at all. Also the fish wasn’t great and it did not taste fresh at all considering it was on the menu as “catch of the day”. There was no mention that there may be a long wait when we placed our orders nor an apology for the wait when we received the food. Whilst waiting on our food there was flies buzzing around the tables constantly which was very offputting. Coffee was nice though :)

This highly recommended little restaurant is tucked away off the the main road near the the Visitor Information Centre. We enjoyed a well presented and very delicious Ulster Fry and afternoon lattes with yummy homemade desserts. Love the inviting, tasteful decor and friendly owner!

Visited for a snack recently. Sausage roll was delicious, one of the best I have had. Good quality. Staff friendly. Great value for money. Will definitely call again and would recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate and a huge slice of lovely lemon cake! Clean and tidy, very friendly staff. They also do lunch etc. Will be going back again!

We arrived in Portaferry in the Thursday and found the pizzeria. Ordered a delivered pizza order. Pizzas were great but missed of the Jalopenos off one. Ordered as walk in 4 days later and had pizza and kebab. Would not order a kebab again as no salad and the you women who took the order was rather rude.We are in 2 times at the cafe. Food was good and service was ok. Only issue was I asked for a coke and got a cup of tea... Worth a visit if your not fussy on what you ordered

Came here for some lunch was looking very forward to it..we arrived to ask do we sit down and the reply was yes I will be with you..we sat down to no service for 20 minutes the people in front were not served ether and waited longer..when someone finally came upstairs we still were not served until 5 minutes later..we placed our orders to have someone else come up stairs to say there was none left..to which I choose something else again none left..So I ordered the same as my partner..the burger was nice slightly drying but the chips were unseasoned and poor quality just tasted of frozen chips with no seasoning..we waited a long time to be served and then to receive food..the side dip could of been a better portion size..sitting upstairs after a while you feel forgetten there was also a haur in my food when placed down in front of me..cost was okay the service was what let it down bad day don't know but left feeling disappointed by seeing only good reviews won't be back unfortunately.Date of visit: April 2019

A party of four of us were out for a drive and fancied some breakfast. Came across this little gem and weren't disappointed. Good, wholesome food served by lovely staff and excellent value for money.

Was on trip down to Portaferry this morning and fancied a bit of breakfast. Found the Yard and was really pleased with our choices, the breakfast we all had was really fresh and well cooked. The breakfast deal is amazing value for money, staff were fantastic.

Visited this place today for breakfast and have to say it was one of the best places I have tried for a long time. The staff were really warm and friendly and the food delicious. I gad the the filled soda and loved every mouthful, coffee was great and not too strong. A must visit if in Portaferry.

We called in for an ice-cream on a beautiful , sunny Sunday afternoon . It was delish and there are so many varieties to choose from . You're certainly spoiled for choice 😁

Great little spot to catch up with friends, having travelled from South Wales very early that morning. The server was excellent - friendly, efficient and accommodating. The menu choice was wide and we each chose something different, which was of great quality and quantity when it arrived. Can't fault The Yard.

Tasty Pizza's / Fries / Filter Coffee / Tea. We loved the pizza and the ambience. Plan a short visit after rushing through Aquarius.

Made a wee trip to Portaferry , it had been some time since we had been down. Found this delightful wee bistro The coffee was best I had ever tasted I had two mugs of cappuccino with my Fry which was Nice and fresh and not greasy.

Staff were brilliant and although we were only having a light lunch it was very good and we all enjoyed it. Hit the mark on the day, plenty of tasty food served and there was no problem about getting more if required. A very pleasant place to dine in and super efficient staff - all of us really enjoyed our visit thanks to all in The Yard!!

Lovely wee cafe with delicious food. Really tasty burgerses and ice cream. Pleasant staff. Handy location.

Called in for breakfast this morning and was greated by a lovely girl who came and took my drink order very promptly she also helped me with my order as I didnt want a full cooked breakfast, food was cooked beautifully and food was out quickly. I will difiantly be back and I will bring company next time

We visited for lunch and had great food. The fish and chips was particularly good. The service was friendly.

Have dined here many times. Tasty prawn cocktail and scampi. My sister absolutely loved the Lasagne,and she is fussy, the chicken curry also went down.a treat,ama little sad that these were not on the menu on. Our last visit. However,there is a very tasty good value menu

Good service, food was tasty and reasonably priced. Quite a good selection for lunchtime. Would be happy to return.

Rambling around Portaferry this afternoon looking for a light lunch, The Yard was recommended to us by a local person. It is looking in what looks like "a yard" from the outside but it is actually a hive of activity with other shops close by. The Yard was busy with people having lunch but we luckily got a table immediately. We were attended by a very pleasant waitress. I had a lovely house special baguette which was pretty generous in size. My wife had soup. Both of us were very pleased with our food which was served piping hot and promptly. The price was very reasonable and good value for money we thought. There was a nice touristy, mixed with local atmosphere there and we very much enjoyed the hospitality. Located just a short walk from the ferry it is an ideal spot from which to start the rest of your journey through this beautiful peninsula.

Has recently been taken over and the menu has improved but I still find it cold and seats uncomfortable.

Travelled as a family of 4, and the Pizza was amazing. Fortunately, this is very close by to the ferry service and Exploris aquarium. NOt sure if some of you are disappointed if I have appreciate that beer/wine is not served here. The yard also has an open front with tables, and a small area upstairs. Overall, not expensive and a very nice place to refresh (Not to forget some Filter Coffee or Tea). Suitable for Veggies.

called in here on spec...and very very glad we did...it was lunch time and my lady partner and i were feeling peckish...i ordered haddock and chips and mushy peas and strong tea...my lady ordered portavogie prawns and salad and chips...both meals were lovely and very very tasty..the haddock was first class..my lady friiend scoffed down her meal and declared it was scrumshisn...we both had zero room for desserts..my lady frind and i had copous amount of teas and coffee...and the tea coffee both first class...the lady waitdress and indeed the chef both time for us...discussing the resterants.and his local products he scources...both members of staff were in deed very very friendly..and the bill was below average...another nice touch....so i say this with my hand on my heart...if in portaferry give this little gem of an eatry a visit....it really is a first class gem....thank you..

This just opened last year and we gave it a try as it was close to Exploris (and Morelli's ice-cream!). Decor is very pleasant and we were served quickly; kids had skinny fries and chicken which was very good and proper chicken meaning they devoured the whole lot. My wife and I had the chicken curry with boiled rice and chips and it was really good. Price was very reasonable as the food was good quality and tasty.

This place is lovely! The food is great, tasty and filling. I order the chicken from the picture and it was exactly as shown. Very friendly and chatty staff. Lovely place to go after the aquarium or just for a tasty treat. My husband thinks the fifteens are fantastic.

Called in today while on a cycle round the Ards peninsula. Great spot with tasty coffee and scones. The staff are really friendly and looked after us. I would highly recommend it and I will definitely be back.

Tucked into the corner is a little bit of heaven that you must taste. The staff are so friendly and up for a chat, lovely menu and the food is delicious. Never had my chips served in a little bucket before, lol and the chilli jam was so good I would have bought a bottle if they sold it. Very good value, menu is different, good service and very enjoyable lunch, we will definitely be back!!
