The Bull & Claw in Ards

Had a tasty lunch today (19/3/24) I found the food was very appetising and warm, unfortunately the female staff on duty were less than friendly or engaging with the customers, even though the place wasn't overly busy. It was a case of taking your order asap, serve the food, offer of condiments, take your payment and leave. Would return for the standard of food, but not the service that I found was indifferent, less than welcome

Just called in at teatime for a quick bite Getting a table no problem I had 2 boys with me who had burger and chips Food lovely Hot and quickly served On a bitter cold night it was lovely and warm and welcoming Staff very attentive without being overbearing Our favourite in the town

Lovely evening, great selection of dishes to choose from. Interior looked great with the Christmas lights and the staff are always friendly. Everyone really enjoyed their various food choices and children are well catered for.

Food was ok. Atmosphere was zilch.

Our 2nd visit and we have to say this restaurant ticks all the boxes. On arriving we had a warm welcome. Our waitress Lucy was absolutely incredible, our food was amazing and the atmosphere was uplifting. We was greeted by Selina on arrival and during the course of the evening she came over to check on us again friendly, amazing service. The staff work as a team and they make the visit a total experience. Thank you team The Bull and Claw Ards you are the best in the area.

This is a fantastic restaurant and family friendly. The staff are lovely. The food is delicious as are the kids meals. Love the sticky toffee pudding. They do non alcoholic beer including Peroni which I love. Theres a lovely atmosphere. Whether you want to relax with a coffee and read a book or have lunch or dinner. There s a bar too. 5 stars.

French onion soup was more like onions in chip shop sauce. Service was slow despite being the only customer at the time. Expensive and bland. Avoid.

Outstanding food and great service. Perfectly cooked and delicious crab claws and prawns for starter and the duck really stood out for our mains.

Standard restaurant food. Decent, average price. Wouldn't be my first choice but certainly not my last. staff were pleasant

The Bull & Claw is a hidden gem in Newtownards, great food and service. The rib eye is particularly tasty. The crab claws for starter are a must along with Mayday sauvignon blanc fyi fwiw

Nice place, friendly staff, veggie options on the menu. Food was a little slow arriving. One of our group thought the Scampi was a bit overcooked in some and undercooked in others. I had a miso cauliflower burger which was nice but I thought it might be roast cauliflower -which it wasn't. The fries were yummy.

Went for lunch. Had the delicious chowder. Hubby had good old fish n chips which he said were tasty. Attentive staff. Decent menu. Hard to chose what to eat, in a good way.

Had a lovely lunch here a bit expensive nice for a treat wouldnt go on a regular basis food is good

Absolutely gorgeous meal and staff are lovely

Came here Monday 17th April 2023 on the recommendation of our B& B owner, very friendly and informative staff, the food was EXCELLENT and the chef was on a night off!! The Merlot was delicious and nothing was too much trouble, a worth while visit! Thankyou.

Nice place and lovely staff. The food was average with most of my party saying their dish was either a bit dry or tasteless. I had the vegan bean burger, which was good but the chips were dry. However the staff were friendly and helpful and keen to see we had a good night

We had family visiting from the US and I'm go glad we went to the Bull and Claw for a family dinner. The food was excellent and the service superb. Special thanks the Gareth who was so pleasent and attentive the whole night! Wonderful evening had by all.

A nice relaxing lunch was had..

Went for lunch one midweek day. The restaurant was pretty quiet. Service was pretty quick and the food was great. Didn't have a few things on the menu which was disappointing

My scampi was si burnt couldn't eat it my daughters chips where raw wint be back disappointed

My nephew and I went there this evening for his birthday. I had commented on the reservation that we hoped to get ribeye steaks. They actually held back two ribeye steaks for us. Lovely food, great service. Thanks.

We are Still in the Bull and Claw just finished our meals and we both thoroughly enjoyed the food ,the service and atmosphere.The whole experience was second to none and that's on a Monday Night. Just to mention also our waiter, the one with the beard called Ross,was very attentive to all our needs and definitely a future Head waiter. Thank you ,we will be back Stuart & Margaret

WOW what a great night out food was amazing atmosphere was great service perfect … can’t wait to visit again

Overall very impressed. However table layout needs attention. The waitress had to squeeze between two large tables of ten and the three tables of two. Felt really sorry for her as she had to excuse herself every time. Not ideal for those at the tables either. Despite that, food and service was very good. Please sort out the table layout, it’s a simple fix.

Yet again we've had the most delicious dinner this evening in the Newtownards restaurant. And in spite of being busy, their staff always take time to engage with customers. Even had our photo taken at the beautiful Christmas tree 🎄😊🥳. Looking forward to our next visit.

Good food and friendly staff. We called in on a Monday night and the place was busy enough, which I always take as a good sign. I had scampi with chips, the batter on the scampi was very light and crispy. The other meal was crab claws with prawns which I'm told was delicious.

Food and service was second to none. Excellent staff that girl Selina is an absolute diamond. We'll be back soon for cocktails too. ❤️ Can't wait. 5 star experience.

This was my first time here after hearing about it for years. And everyone was right. The food is great. I was only slightly annoyed by the limited fixed menu. But that's my issue. I would like a better beer selection, but I have that issue almost every where. Would definitely recommend.

Top class food every time, relaxed atmosphere, staff always good craic.

Food was fantastic, couldn’t fault it at all, the service from the staff let this place down big style. Our table wasn’t checked on, not once over all 3 courses, drink top ups weren’t offered, my husband had to leave our table and order more drinks, staff appeared miserable, bored, standing around talking with each other, on their phones, no one appeared to be in charge and no one really seemed that interested in the customers, and at the end about 8-45/9pm they couldn’t wait to get all tables finished up and out. Will be back, hopefully with different staff on though. Hats off to the chefs once again.

Lovely place, great food, very friendly staff,. We were seated at a window table in an alcove off the main restaurant so it was not as noisy and busy, Our first visit here, would definitely go back.

Ordered starter and mains at same time. The gap between finishing starter and receiving mains was 55 mins. Obviously we were forgotten about. Asked to check when it was arriving. Told 5 mins receiving raw Yorkshire pudding and roast beef cut so thin it was like tracing paper. We will definitely not be back.

You have to be out of your mind not to come here!!! Absolutely fantastic staff and service, food was incredible, even the starters, thank goodness we did not pre order dessert. Was too full. Pictures don't do it justice. 100% coming back here.

Always good. Very consistent. Lovely chicken ceasar salad. The best I've tasted. Nice, pleasant, helpful staff.

The food was nice but the service left something to be desired. We placed around a corner out of the way and forgotten about. Planned to stay for dessert but we're left waiting so long I just paid the bill. Even this exchange wasn't easy as they charged me for someone else's bill even after handing me the correct one.

Went here for a family birthday lunch. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely and hot. Good choice (although some items on menu weren't available)with alternatives for one of the party who was gluten free. We were missing a few portions of chips but were discounted on the final bill. Definitely worth a visit.

Food was great - good price - staff were brilliant (very attentive & didn’t rush us out at all which was really appreciated as I hadn’t seen my friends in a long long time!)

Booking recommended. We were lucky they had a table. I had the kilkeel crab linguine and it was not shy on flavour. Taste sensation! The upper level seating was quite warm. You can see the kitchen, that for me is a plus, I tend to trust the food more there is nowhere to hide. Definitely recommend.

Visited for my parents' birthdays with other family. Had the Sunday Menu as 3 courses are good value at £24. Food was pretty good - had the Seafood Chowder, Turkey and Ham and Sticky Toffee Pudding. No complaints from anyone about their food. Service was cheery and friendly if a little slow from ordering to starter to main. We were seated at the front near a large chilled cabinet they had propped at the end of the bar which kind of ruins the look of the place. The parents were happy and I'd visit again.

Date night steaks were amazing, drinks menu caters for all tastes. Will be back soon with the little one as the kids menu looked fab too
