Used as a halfway stop to the airport. Very quiet, met at the check-in desk by gent called Toby, very nice, and carried the wife's case up the stairs. Unfortunately, there was no restaurant at the time of the visit, so I took a walk to shops not too far away and was allowed to eat and drink outside whilst nice before going to our room.

So if you’ve been going there for 45 years, then yes it’s different to what it used to be, but I have to say that the food was absolutely fantastic! The garlic bread was the best I’ve tried, the breaded chicken was sensational! Gareth was fabulous and so super helpful. The fact it’s BYOB keeps the meal reasonably priced! We had a 3 course meal each and it was £30 a head. Bargain given the quality of the food! Bravo!

The restaurant may be good - didn't use it - but the hotel side was staggeringly poor. Whoever heard of a breakfast period lasting just 1 hour [7.30 - 8.30] on weekdays and 1 hour [8.30 - 9.30] at weekends?? Completely unacceptable. Reason given - just one member of staff on duty who had also to clean the bedrooms!! And hopeless room servicing. Towels not changed, biscuits used not replaced and, on one day, no room service at all and no apology!

Let me start with the positive. The greeting on arrival was excellent purly down to the enthusiastic male receptionist . The room was basic however apart from holes in some of the towels it was very clean. We booked expecting to be able to use the restaurant however on arrival told it wasn't open so had to find somewhere else to eat ( no mention the website of it being closed ) Breakfast was an absolute joke and with the offering of cereal, bread and cheese. Do not expect a cooked breakfast. The whole experience was one I hope to never come across again

Pleasantly surprised by the area. Hotel itself looks a bit dated but it has an ample Car Park. Staff were very friendly and happy. The room was bigger than I expected- big comfy double bed, 2 easy chairs and coffee table. Large flat screen TV. Good sized bathroom and although it took a while, hot water. We do east and good. The Hotel has a Restaurant and Bar but they don’t operate on Monday & Tuesdays. Great Place Brian -Chile Masala in Castle Street - short walk It ticked all the boxes

We have been dining fairly frequently at the Wycliffe Hotel for several years and have never been disappointed with anything at all. The quality of the meals is excellent. The staff are cheerful and friendly. Tables are properly laid with cotton tablecloths and napkins. The new policy of non-alcoholic drinks provided by the hotel is fine with us. If you want to take your own alcohol then this is encouraged. We are always well looked after. All in all, a great place to eat!

We booked here after hearing reviews on Facebook being exceptionally good. So we decided to treat ourselves for valentine’s night in their set menu ( we don’t normally go out for it, ) but omg we’ve not enjoyed eating out as much as we have done tonight, in a very long time. The decor could do with Modernisation but overall it’s very clean and tidy, it’s not over crowded. Every single one of our meals were absolutely gorgeous in taste, and presentation. Allllll of the waiters/staff were sooo friendly and professional it’s really is a credit to edgeley. It’s by far out ranks other establishments. We have left there tonight with very full tummies and very satisfied that we will be 109% returning in the very near future to try some more of the foods this little piece of Italy has to offer.

This revue is purely about the restaurant as I only dined there. It is a beautifully laid out restaurant, well decorated with linen tablecloths, water jug etc. so first impressions are excellent. The friendliness of the staff compliments this, as does their efficient service. It was a Sunday so we had the traditional Sunday roast (two roast beef and one lamb shank), which matched our expectations, excellent. We had three different deserts, and not one disappointed. The only thing I could pick on, was the fact I felt there should have been more prawns in the prawn cocktail, but that's only because I couldn't fault anything else. Without doubt we will be returning again very soon. Mega plus, bring your own wine with no corkage charge. Also interesting to hear some of the restaurants background from Callum the hotel's general manager, like it when staff come up through the ranks. And if the chef gets to read this loved the Jus, way better than gravy. If you've never been go, as you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I and our best friends stayed for 1 night. When we checked in the young man who dealt with us, was very pleasant and had a good sense of humour. He informed us that the hotel breakfast was halal, so they did not serve pork. This was fine with us. The rooms were very clean, and although they overlook a main road, and is near Manchester airport,we were not disturbed by any noise. Now going back to breakfast, I think they maybe new to work on this, as the young lady who served us, looked as if she had just walked in, and forgot to get in suitable attire to serve patrons. Also when I asked for white bread, she came back with 3 slices, as there was 4 of us, I said I needed 8. Her response was not appreciated, when I asked if they had any marmalade, she said no and then proceeded to point me in direction of marmite. Not quite the same. The breakfast was delicious, they just need to work on there presentation. Also the central heating went off at about 10 o'clock.

The hotel has clean rooms and is well presented throughout. Breakfasts were disappointing but a dinner we had was ok. The lamb shank was particularly good according to one of the family. We booked into to the hotel at short notice for two nights because an elderly relative had been admitted to the local hospital in a very serious condition. We then needed to extend to the Sunday night. The general manager did so in the reception at a cost of £100. My wife who was flying in to join me checked the price on the hotel website and booking.com where it was shown at £80. When I asked the manager to correct the price he came to see me 20 minutes later telling me that the internet price was £110. Sure enough the web prices now showed £110 on the hotel site and booking.com. I cancelled the extra night and moved to another hotel.

It's been quite some time since we've dined at The Wycliffe(my wife's late parents were regulars), so it was wonderful to see a familiar face in charge of front of house. Our friend had decided to hold her70th birthday celebration dinner here and we were not disappointed. The staff were efficient and very friendly and the food delicious. The calimari to start, the sea bass for main with side vegetables and dessert together with the white wine were faultless and excellent value for money. I passed my compliments to the chef and at the end of service he came out of the kitchen and chatted to us all about his time in Monaco. All seven of us agreed that it was a wonderful night and a venue we hope to return to in the not too distant future. Thanks again The Wycliffe for a memorable meal and evening.

A hidden gem, well worth a visit! My 'usual' hotel, in Stockport, that I have used regularly since 2019 when coming up for business, was fully booked, so I looked a litter wider. The rooms are really clean, with a great desk to work at for a couple of hours, which suits me fine. The restaurant is VERY underrated! Chatting to the barman, I learnt that the hotel and restaurant, which was really popular before covid, has been struggling lately. We chatted about rugby and more, pleasant when you're travelling alone for business. Back to the restaurant. This was probably the best meal I have had in the last 5 years. The chef has an Italian background, which comes through in his dishes. The personal detail and attention are much appreciated, and this place has become my new regular hotel when I'm in Stockport! It's definitely worth the 5-star review!

Heard good reports about this restaurant, booked me and my hubby for an anniversary meal, Hotel was very understated and classy, pristine white table cloths, The house red was high quality. We both decided to have the Fillet steaks and sauce, ( 1 x M/R, 1 x M) cooked to perfection, melt in the mouth delicious, and 2 x sides. Free desserts with the steak night deal, again both were scrumpious. 2 x glasses of champagne arrived courtesy of the hotel, for our anniversary. Gerry the head chef came out to talk to all the customers, it was lovely to be able to complement him and his team personally. From entering the hotel, the staff were professional and friendly, I can highly recommend eating at this restaurant, but advisable to book in advance, as they are very busy all weekends, we went Thursday night. My wife and I decided to visit The Wycliffe for Sunday lunch with our youngest ( our two older kids don't want to be seen out with mum & dad anymore :( ). We both commented on how this was one of the best meals we've had in years. It was wonderful! . Our youngest (11 years old) had the Calamari for starters which he devoured (I never got a look in!! ). I had the Farmhouse Pate which was lovely, deep in flavour with a sweet chutney that went so well together. My wife had the prawn cocktail which she also said was lovely. Then to the mains, both my wife and the youngest had the Sirloin beef with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding - I manged to get a taste of the beef and it just fell apart in the mouth - wonderful. I went for the slow roasted lamb shank which was huge, so much so that i didn't have room for pudding which is not like me. The lamb itself was amazing - it just fell off the bone and was so soft and tender. The youngest then went for the Chocolate profiterole's which is a quite a big pudding but it disappeared within a minute (again I didn't get a look in - too full anyway) . The service was quality as is the feel of the restaurant - its a very traditional feel with a hint of modern but done tastefully. The waiters were attentive and had a laugh with youngest particularly when the was devouring the profiteroles. they even reduced the bill as he wouldn't manage a full main course so we asked for a smaller portion. All in all this was a wonderful experience and we'll be returning as soon as we can.

Yes, that wine probably doesnt go with lamb but it is scrummy and we find ourselves guzzling it. The Wycliffe remains old school at its best. The word 'service' must be matched with 'excellent' because it is. Since the blasted Covid we have been making an effort to dine here, using the old adage "use it or lose it". Their social distancing practices are excellent and one feels confident of venturing out. The food remains good and there is outdoor seating if you just fancy a pint, a cocktail, or the odd bottle of pink fizz.

Finding a venue to accommodate grandparents, aunts uncles, brothers, sisters and friends is not that easy! The Wycliffe proved to be an excellent choice. We had access in the day to decorate the table, and nothing was too much trouble. The set meal was great value for money, with plenty of choice for the fussiest of diets (and we had a few of them!) The service was unobtrusive but efficient, the starched linen napkins went down well with the grandparents and everything was just right. If I'm being picky, the pre - starter soup was a bit insipid, and not everyone was offered tea (rather than coffee) at the end of the meal, but it would be a harsh critic to take sa while mark off for that. I'm sure there are other venues that will provide a more contemporary meal, but for the generations we has present, it was absolutely just right. We'll done everyone at the Wycliffe.

This was the third time we had stayed at The Wycliffe and we will undoubtedly return. The hotel is conveniently located for Stockport and its surroundings. Positives: friendly helpful staff; nice bar; excellent breakfast; reasonably comfortable room; free parking at the front of the hotel. Negatives: bathroom could be larger and better organised; it would have been nice to have windows that could be safely opened overnight, as the room was quite warm. The problem was that the windows opened directly on to a fire escape walkway.

We come here reasonably regularly but have only just recently tried the quarterly Gourmet nights. Set menu with paired wines.Food was excellent and the wines went well - fish course (mussels gratin) and main (venison) particularly good as was the cheese, only gripe was a disappointing carrot and walnut cake dessert.Really good value for money, we've already booked for the next one in March.

My wife a I went in with my parents to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.we were ushered into the bar area on arrival where we had drinks whilst the table was set for us.The waiter took our starter and main meal orders then led us to our table, the starters arrived five minutes later, I had the garlic mushrooms, they were perfect.Plates cleared and 10 minutes later the mains were served, I had the fillet steak, done as medium, again this was perfect.Again the plates were cleared and we ordered the desserts, my wife ordered the mint cheesecake and said this was lovely. I didn’t have dessert. The staff were well turned out and polite. The restaurant was spotless.Reasonable prices as it worked out at about £40 per person including drinks and a bottle of wine. All in all, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I hesitate to write this because of all the positive reviews, when my experience was rather different. I stayed here on business for one night in August 2019, wanting to avoid the big chain hotels. Big mistake.

My family have patronised the Wycliffe for a number of years for our annual get together. Food and welcome always the same - excellent. Recently I have been staying overnight and have been very happy there. Lovely, clean and comfortable rooms. Staff always remember to lower the shower head for me!

We were invited to partake here after a funeral. Although a buffet it was manned by a lovely waitress and the tea and coffee was brought round by a waiter, it was lovely to be addressed as Signora instead of Madam Everything was clean and homely and nothing was too much trouble. Only one thing let it down. There were steps everywhere and it was a bit difficulty but not impossible for me as I am disabled. How a wheelchair user would go on I an not sure.

An excellent mid. range mid. priced family run hotel. Excellent rooms of a very good standard. Staff very helpful and polite. Food of a good standard with a good choice. Good parking facilities in a residential area. Stay here four times a year on business no need to look any further.

Came here for a family birthday as my husbands family have been eating here for 20+ years and it did not disappoint. The food was stunning! As always the service was excellent, very courteous and polite and then menu options were brilliant - something for everyone! We had the steak, lamb shank, mushroom risotto, veal steak and ham hock terrine to name a few and all were well above par - I could cut my steak with a teaspoon it was that good. Food quality is outstanding and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. I would highly recommend this place if your looking for a stunning meal either for a special occasion, family gathering, romantic dinner or just because!! Keep up the good work everyone and my hat off to the chef! And also thank you for the gorgeous chocolate orange brownie with candle as a gift to the birthday girl

This is a popular choice for lunch. Perhaps not the cheapest but good value and service. Three courses each, a decent bottle of wine and coffees cost £160 for four.

Went in for breakfast on Sat morning. Decent, honest food. £8 for the big breakfast (two of almost everything) & £6.50 for the standard breakfast, both inclusive of a brew. Fast & friendly service. Will be visiting again when the need arises..

I held my sons 9th birthday party at The Lobby, and it was amazing. The kids loved it, and my son said it was by far the best birthday party he has ever had. All the kids loved it. The lovely couple there were so nice and helpful. They provided plates, cups , and drinks for the kids (and the parents)! We felt so welcomed and looked after. Please book this place for your child's next gaming party, you will not be disappointed!

Absolutely gorgeous roast dinner - you can get up to 3 meat choices from a selection of beef, turkey, gammon, Chinese pork... And I think one or two other options. I went with beef, Chinese pork and gammon. Chinese pork was nice but the beef and gammon were GORGEOUS. Absolutely MASSIVE Yorkshire pudding which was also sooooo good and all the veg was really lovely too! We all had delicious meals and we were really impressed with the friendly, attentive service too. Definitely going to be back!
