The Woolpack in Ipswich

I enjoy going to the Woolpack because of the atmosphere, the surroundings and the staff. The food is usually very good, though I don't find the menu very inspiring. They are always willing to adjust a dish if there's an element you wish to change. It's worth a visit.

Another great pub, lovely beer and food.

Amazing atmosphere! We went there to try a Italian pizza, and i MUST say that its definitely the best Italian Pizza in Ipswich! And i know what i saying as I am a pizza lover who knows and tried pizza in many places! This Pub is coming on my list now! Atmosphere inside is amazing such a nice cozy pub with dogs welcome! Really Highly Recommend!

It was a cold, rainy February night when we arrived with our lively puppy but we found a cosy log burner, hot coffee, newspapers to read and later, delicious gnocchi and pies to eat for supper!! The staff were very welcoming and are definately dog friendly! We look forward to returning soon!

Our thanks for giving my partner and I just the winding down session we needed after a dreadful experience shopping in the town centre. Good beer, equally good food, with vegan options, fantastic staff, great atmosphere. You are just missing a bottle of single malt 12yr old Glenfiddich ( There is one I the corner shop nearby.... hint, hint) The provision of a doggie bag was much appreciated too. Lovely food and friendly staff, just had the roast dinner, was incredible. I would highly recommend eating and drinking here.

After email contact it turned out that we could not reserve a table during the weekend. But this would be fine because they are good at pushing tables. We arrived and everything was occupied. We ended up drinking a beer awkwardly between the dining guests and after about 30 minutes we still had a seat. Many small booths/rooms, so no real pub atmosphere as we sat in our own room (9 people). Food fine for the price. Not huge portions. Wide choice of beer types. Also at least some old fashioned ales while most pubs now fill everything with IPA.

Great pub with character, warm and cosy feel to it. Good selection of food and drinks. Dog friendly, I also spotted dog treats for sale too. Very pleasant staff. We will definitely visit again.

I cannot express in a short review how good the team at The Woolpack are. We recently hosted a company meal for 25 people and simply could not fault the welcome, the service or the food (and drink). From start to finish Rachel and her team expertly organised the event and served us delicious and plentiful food. Special praise to the kitchen team. We cannot wait to return.

Group of 10 friends meeting for pre Christmas meal. Service really lovely, polite and attentive without being obtrusive. All courses well presented, plentiful and well cooked. Great atmosphere, really enjoyed our evening.

We had our departmental Christmas dinner last week. There were 12 of us. We all had a great time. The staff were incredibly efficient and attentive and the food was delicious and excellent value for money. We will definitely return.

What a delicious lunch! My husband had Moroccan curry, which he couldn't fault, I had aubergine and black bean burger. It was all absolutely delicious and faultless. We would highly recommend a visit! There is a really great range of ales too, all well kept. My husband had a Nethergate umber ale, I had Sharp's Atlantic. Both were lovely. The flat white with oat milk that I had afterwards was perfection in a cup! Perfectly executed, delicious coffee. Many thanks to all the lovely, helpful, friendly staff.

One of the best ploughman’s lunches I’ve had. Lovely pub friendly staff and a car park bonus for a town pub. We come here regularly and are never disappointed. Always excellent menu choices and the other half loves the choice of beer which is always well kept.

First day of our week off from wotk, I insisted on heading to the woolpack for lunch, husband had a breakfast early, so we agreed to grab a cab so he could enjoy a beer while i ordered food. I ordered smoked mackerel pate for a starter and a burger for main.. 25 mins later both meals arrived! I sent back the main course and the waitress confirmed that she had ordered the meals with a starter main divide. I had to add olives and olive oil to the starter as the crostini bread was crumbling on the floor with every bite.. more like stale croutons..quite disgusting. Then 35 minutes later the same dry burger reappeared for my main..which i rejected. High end prices for poor service and half arsed cooking, without the location, your standards wouldn't fly in any catering facility. Im hungry and getting another taxi to a decent venue. You are unbelievably poor but the middle class love you, possibly think your quirky?? I dont know.. but you cant deliver the basics, warm wine at £10 a glass and heat fermented condiments, with price marked ketchup including price marked spirits.. surely the posh are not this stupid?? Or........

Came sunday afternoon for a drink, we sat out the front. We ordered the beef nachos. Really tasty but expensive for the size and limited meat. Nice atmosphere.

Good pub, ideal if you take the correct exit out of Christchurch Park. Nice outside space despite having traffic run either side of it, doesn't seem to spoil it at all.

Great for drinks & lunch in the sunshine! Friendly and welcoming service every time! Food is very tasty and the wine selection is fab! Zia Marita’s pizza shack is amazing! What a great pub. Made to feel very welcome by friendly staff - as was our dog! The Chef is very inventive with the dishes and all at a reasonable price. We came with our grandchildren who love the variety of board games on offer. Will definitely visit again and maybe give the Pizza Garden a try.

Fabulous "watering hole". Wide range of cask beers that are well kept. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. I have eaten there a few times and the food is First class and service is prompt. Best proper pub in town.

We first visited The Woolpack in Oct 2021 to sample Antonio’s Neapolitan pizzas. They are the most delicious pizzas we’ve ever tasted. We’ve been every couple of weeks since! We have breakfast quite often too and lunch, and never been disappointed. The puddings are fabulous and we tried the cannoli this evening, wow, it was delicious! The team at The Woolpack are warm, friendly and welcoming and as soon as we walk through the door. The service is great and they can’t do enough for you. After a busy day, we can unwind the minute we walk through the door. Having read some of the not so favourable reviews, I can only assume these people went to a different pub! We absolutely love The Woolpack. Thank you guys for always making our visits enjoyable 😊

Normally my favourite pub but do feel it’s lost it’s way a bit recently, staff are slightly clueless and I ordered a veggie burger and it was so hard especially round the edges and obviously defrosted.. they had no sauce in it the burger bun as well the burger were bone dry!? It was served with wedges which were nicer but no salad and the worst thing is this burger was £15…. I’m so sorry but I cannot justify that price tag you can genuinely get a nicer burger for less than half that price. In fact the prices of the whole menu are willlllddddd

Nice pub by the park with some of the best cheesy chips you can find :-) Reasonable priced wine with more expensive options if you want them. Great place to stop for lunch especially if you have a dog.

The only pizza comparable involves a flights to Napoli. Absolutely delicious!!!!

Great location and very good choice of beers and lagers. Ours was a spontaneous visit and we opted for the burgers and fries. This was a mistake. A very basic serving. The sort of thing I would expect at a burger van after a night on the tiles. Definitely not worth the money. Served with big potato chips, it was actually embarrassing and not what I expected having seen other dishes well presented.

True British pub...very cool atmosphere with good selection of beer including non alcoholic options.

The menu is great for everyone, the food is very tasty 😋 the staff were amazingly friendly from waiting tables perfectly to helping you find the toilets 😉 the woolpack is an absolute joy to visit 🥰❤️

Popped in with my mum on our way into town, and we were so glad we did! Lots of options on the menu for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. We both chose the Mac 'n Cheese with salad and garlic ciabatta for our lunch, and it was delicious. We both said it was the best Macaroni Cheese we'd ever had! The salad and garlic bread were lovely too, and it was all presented beautifully. The perfect cosy pub to just sit and enjoy the atmosphere - it actually feels like a country pub! Friendly staff too. We will definitely be back.

I have popped in for a quick pint and had a meal, I have been in when it's quiet and it's busy. Whenever I've been in, the service has been exceptional. Great food, great beer, great atmosphere, great character, reasonably priced and friendly, helpful and efficient staff If you pop in, you won't be disappointed.

Good pub grub, if a little pricey. We sat in the snug where a group of ladies meet and knit. Lovely community feeling.

I had chicken burger and chips and a scotch egg, scotch egg breadcrumbs were very hard the egg in the middle was OK, chicken burger was OK one piece of lettuce on it, very few chips, which were hard, could of done with a side salad and over priced so I won't be rushing back,

My husband and I visited The Woolpack today for lunch. We both chose Mushroom stroganoff which was served with rice and a side salad. The food arrived in a reasonable length of time and looked lovely served in two dishes on a wooden platter. It smelled wonderful and it didn't disappoint. We both had to try very hard to eat the meal at a sensible speed as it was so delicious. My husband chose a syrup sponge pudding with custard for dessert. I couldn't resist trying some. It was light and cooked perfectly. The beer was from a new barrel of Black sheep which he described as extremely tasty. The service was very good and the atmosphere was just right for a lunchtime meal. The cost was pretty special too. The food was very reasonably priced.

A warm welcome here this Mon lunchtime. Good 'unbelievable Jeff' ale and great sauvignon blanc. The belly pork was a real tasty main course from the specials board. Our dog enjoyed the attention... Especially the sausage. A most hospitable establishment, many thanks.

I asked for a vegan option and I was offered an alternative to the menu, chickpea chili and rice, my friends burger and chips was superb also recommend the mushroom stroganoff.. Will definitely return 😁

Nice quiet pub. Great selection of beers. I haven't drunk in here since the early 1990's. I liked it then, and I definitely like it now. Give it a try if you want a good, friendly 'proper pub' experience. Nice one.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food-cannot ask for any more! The bolognese tagliatelle was so tasty and don’t get me started on the scrumptious chocolate bread and butter pudding! It was melt in the mouth. We will be returning for sure!

We went on a Monday and the specials we ordered were created using the Sundays leftovers. In general it was a job well done for not wasting food and we enjoyed the visit as the staff are nice and the building is interesting and clean. We had pork belly with crushed roast potatoes and veg, Philly cheese steak with leftover roast beef, a tasty coleslaw and a side of cheesy chips. The pork crackling was inedible as it was reheated but the rest was still very tasty. We noticed a cute outside pizza hut which served cocktails and pitchers on certain days which looked a nice place to spend an evening. We would return.

Went here on a recommendation. I thought it was more of a town pub, couldn't be more wrong. Wonderful building, old floors and bottles, feels very much like a countryside pub. Staff are friendly and polite. The food is wonderful, I had a Philly Beef Cheese steak sandwich, plenty of cheese, beef cooked perfectly and a good quality roll. Cheesy chips are perfect, like chip shop chips! My fiance had belly pork, of course I tried some. Cooked perfectly, the glazed carrots were my personal favourite. Plenty of food, was very happy in the end. Will be back.

Looks like a nice pub - we just dropped someone off to meet a friend for lunch. Covered and enclosed beer garden looks nice, but a very small car park - at least it had a car park.

Great real pub, food menu is a refreshing change from the usual pub food although the classics are also available. Plus an in beergarden genuine (Italian chef) pizza kitchen! Superb thin crust pizzas with a herb laden sauce;-) Choice of real ales, which vary week to week which means you need to come back often to check what's on!!!

Great food and location. Staff are always supper friendly. I would recommend the home made scotch eggs. After excellent food you can take a walk round the near by Christchurch Park.
