The food was excellent. The young lad on the bar was very attentive, but he was doing all the jobs. Not one person can do all the tasks involved in running a bar and provide table service for food.

Fantastic food, really good chunky chips and proper pies. Big portions. Very reasonable. Friendly pub. Extremely welcoming for dogs

Bits of mould on sandwich crust, not ideal. Wasn’t going to post this as I’ve seen some of the other horrendously passive aggressive responses from “the owner”, but others should know. Wont be back any time soon.

What a warm welcome from Ami snd Richard. They are great explaining all the details of the menu. It’s all locally sourced and not a chain. The food was excellent and the service was with a lovely smile from Leyla. It’s a must to visit it a proper pub now. Could just go for a drink or with food. Also having comedy nights and music on Saturday starting in November.

We were a party of 4 mixed ages, called for lunch on the basis of the massive menu that can be seen on the pubs web page. However, the massive menu wasn't available, as new owners had taken over and couldn't remove the massive menu from the pub web.page! That being said, we were shown to our table and Amie, arrived and helped with a comfortable armchair for our nonegenarian relative. There was no one who came to our table to ask about drinks or food, which we wasn't used to. I went to the bar to enquire and was told that everything was "bar service". Ok, I thought as I went back to our party with the menus for the food which was available, which was limited. Amie came to our table to explain about her home cooked food, saying that it wasn't like the "chain pub" food, which is all "ping ping! I asked if they did sausages to which Amie, replied, no, our food is seasonal. I said that surely sausage is available throughout the year, to which Amie replied " if you don't like our menu, " you are welcome to go elsewhere", which I thought was a bit strong, for simply asking a question about sausages. We did stay and ordered our food and I'm not going to lie, was very good indeed and we all enjoyed our time at the Woodside having spent just over £84. Maybe Amie should think that it's okay for customers to ask questions ❓

My friend and I booked a table here a couple of days ago. It was a surreal experience. We were shown to our table by a lovely, friendly lady. She asked what we wanted to drink and we both asked for a glass of wine. She then asked us to pay for it before she brought it to the table. To say the least, we were surprised. The reason she gave was that some people had left without paying. The pub was virtually empty and I'm sure we were observed hobbling in. I am a few months short of 80 and partially disabled and my friend is well in her seventies and was struggling to walk in heels 🤣. If we had tried to do a runner, a brisk walk would have been all it would have taken to stop us. The same happened with the food, we had to pay for it before we received it. On reflection, we did find this treatment a little insulting. If the place had been busy, we could have understood but there were only 3 men having a drink. There was no way two geriatrics could have escaped. Having said that, the food was lovely. We both had pies and fresh vegetables. Our young waitress was absolutely lovely. Before we left, I went to the bar to get change to leave a tip.for her. I spoke to the new owners and they are a lovely, enthusiastic young couple. I spoke to my friend when we got home and we have mixed feelings about going back. Lovely food, lovely people but not sure about being asked, at our table to pay for drinks and then again for food before we'd even seen it. 2 old ladies who can barely walk, in an empty pub! Perhaps you should be a little more discerning . Otherwise, you seem to have got it right.

My husband and I were looking for a lunch where we could take our dog. We had heard the Woodside had changed hands and decided to give it a try. We were welcomed by friendly staff and could immediately see the atmosphere was different. We were offered a table and the landlady came over to us quickly despite the venue being busy with a private function. We were offered a choice of either the lunch menu or the main menu, which was great as it was 2:30 and we thought we might be limited. The main menu included about 6 or 7 pies and other dishes including fish & chips, steak and vegetarian options. The landlady explained that meat and vegetables were sourced locally and all cooked fresh. We both chose the steak and ale pie. This was offered with choice of different potatoes and vegetables. When it came it was piping hot, the vegetables were fresh and delicious. The pie was very tasty with lots of chunks of meat filling. All in all a delicious meal in a friendly environment and we will definitely be coming back. The new landlord and landlady are putting lots of events including opening New Year’s Eve and Christmas Day so it looks like the Woodside is back. Great news for local people.

Went for lunch on Sunday 13/10/2024, when we went in to get a table we were told any table without a reserve sign and menu’s were on the bar, so help our selves and sat down, we went to order to find out there was no main menu items available that we had picked up off the bar, just a Sunday Menu, but the staff that served us was so apologetic, she was new and didn’t realise (Layla) she was very professional and personable, the guy (Archie) explained we couldn’t use that menu, and again apologised, later on we ordered deserts and the ice scream machine broke, again Archie came to apologise, I think the team handled it well and professionally that it didn’t turn to a complaint and that we didn’t see it as a big issue, and the food is a massive step up from what it used to be, I would recommend this place to anyone wanting great food at affordable prices and great customer service, Oh and its dog friendly too 😀

Booked The Woodside for a 'Celebration of Life' get together for my father. The staff were amazing and the food was wonderful. So grateful to Amie and the team for their kindness and hard work - they looked after us so well.

Fantastic spot! Under new ownership and we had the best service we have had in Derbyshire for years - if not ever. Great food with a wide variety of options including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan - we will be back.

Normally we would have gone to the Horseshoes at Clay Cross but wanted a change, we all make mistakes eh! The place was very cold with no heating on couldnt wait to get to the car to get the heater on! To top it off, wife broke a tooth on a roast potato that seems had been sat awaiting its fate for a couple of hours. Will be back at the Horseshoes next week.

We've had drinks tonight 29.9.24 & the smell in the ladies toilets was so bad I had to complain, the smell was bad dirty water so bad I only went once! I complained & was fobed off with ....it's the drains on Ashgate Road.... We've had Dino rod out can't find a problem... Overpriced Sunday lunch with a disgusting smell!!! Don't do it!!!!

Excellent service from the 2 ladies on the bar. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Easily the best pie this year. Well kept and properly served cask ales. First visit but definitely not my last.

Visited with the family for a Sunday lunch. Food was spot on and very filling. Enjoyed a full Sunday Chicken Roast that came with a gigantic Yorkshire pudding and a cornflake tart with custard for desert

Nice little pub, recently under new management. Welcoming atmosphere, and staff are very friendly. The standard had been falling over the last few years so the new owners are trying to shake off the negative image and have done a smashing job. Meals are tasty and portion sizes are generous. Certainly on its way up, so go now before it gets too busy. Also, the fries are absolutely exquisite, highly recommend

Lovely atmosphere, great food, really welcoming and helpful staff. Delicious pies, burgers and traditional pub food for everyone. Really good quality home cooking for everyone. Our party was three generations and included one gluten-free, one dairy free, a vegan and a vegetarian and everyone found something they really enjoyed eating. Amy and her husband took time to chat and make sure everything was right for us and all the staff were helpful and polite. Hope to visit again!

Smells strongly of fish everywhere. No atmosphere despite music in each room. Very empty.

My friend and I, some weeks ago, called in for lunch and had the Welsh Rarebit with fries and lettuce (although advertised as rocket?). It was absolutely delicious and we couldn't recommend highly enough. Today a different story. Same menu. The toast was soggy, the chips barely cooked and the lettuce was black and soggy in places. The server came to the table within a couple of minutes of our being served to ask if all was ok. My friend mentioned the lettuce, but the server walked away and gave no response. We thought at that point, once we realised that this was not the same standard as last time, to just eat it and get out. Towards the end, a hair was found, well imbedded in the Welsh Rarebit. Such a shame.

What a wonderful place for a Sunday lunch! 5 of us joined you today. The staff are very polite and welcoming, the chefs have done an amazing job. Our meals were out in 15 minutes, warm plate, the veg was fresh, cooked to perfection, the beef was tender and perfectly cook and the mash was MASH! Dog friendly, clean and a warning atmosphere. And the toilets are clean! Keep up the good work, we'll definitely be returning!

Beautiful home cooked 'real' food. Small menu but don't mind that if there using fresh ingredients . Massive improvement from what it used to be.

Had the celebration of life here following my dad's funeral. Aime was truly amazing and delivered a fantastic buffet. Cost was good value and cannot recommend enough.

We decided to try this pub again after a long absence and I'm glad we did. Lovely new staff and very good food. The pie selection is excellent 👌, proper chips and everything is homemade. Very dog friendly with blankets and treats but if you're not a dog lover there's plenty of nooks and crannies to hide in.I hope this pub and it's new owners/staff make a success of this pub because it's been lying dormant for too long. Good luck too everyone concerned 👍

The most amazing place I have been to in Chesterfield for a very long time. It has become so hard to find a place that does good fresh food, this place is amazing. The staff are warm and welcoming. oh my, the food, just that experience is enough for me to go every day. I heard this place had changed when I heard the landlord on Spire Radio. We came back in on Fathers day. We had the most amazing meal, now my family want to come all the time.

Ordered 3 meals, only 2 arrived, no cutlery or condiments. Waiter returned with cutlery and 2 of us managed to start eating. Still no condiments offered. Waiter returned to advise there had been a "mix up" and the 3rd meal would be a further 10 minute wait. We asked for a refund for this meal as we would have preferred to eat together, not separately. Waiter returned to ask how our food was to which I replied it "would've been better if all meals had arrived" his response, whilst smiling, was "fair play". No apology offered. Food was a little bland and overpriced, £15 for a cheeseburger and £16 for the Gammon. Better food at Wetherspoons to be honest.

passed this place many a time never called due to drink and driving. today went in with family for granddaughters birthday good basic pub food cooked to a good standard plenty on plate without over facing you and all served by very helpful and friendly staff and wasn't overly expensive. so thankyou for a pleasant experience. we will be coming again

Called in for Sunday lunch. But meal was tasteless, didn't really enjoy it. The tables were not set no condiments or cutlery on the table or menues. Only tables that were reserved were set. It too exspensive, wont be coming back anytime soon. Which is such a pity as i have been coming here for years 😠😥

Lovely visit to the Woodside and we would recommend 100% Those triple cooked chips 🤤 Our kids enjoyed their meals and they got a generous helping. The service was great and everyone is very friendly Lovely venue also 🥰

Under new management. Little by way of decor has changed ;except for a few missing pictures that leave empty frames on the wall. It seemed odd and a small attention to detail and easily resolved. The overwhelming difference was the unfriendly staff and atmosphere. I used to feel a pleasant welcome in The Woodside previously but not so much now. The menu is trying to provide a little more home made than “pub grub” and to that end is a little more expensive. With that I’d like to have felt a little more welcome. I was told “no tab” which is fair enough but it was the tone the message was communicated I didn’t appreciate. It’s not so much a cheap mid-week bite to eat place but it’s certainly not, in my opinion, a special occasion. It’s got the potential to be a really successful pub as it’s a great location with a spacious outdoor space. I am not in a hurry to return I’m afraid.

Our experience yesterday was not the best chips was overcooked peas was cold my apple pie had to go back it was the smallest bit and wasn't acceptable..i was brought out a slice but definately not home made..and i was polite well mannered and friendly the bar staff are exeptional.

Under new ownership but the food is much better than the previous chain owners. Great selection of pies, chippy style chips and a good selection of beers. Dog friendly.

I know this place has been taken over recently by a local chesterfield lady the food was very good price was brilliant both me and my partner were surprised by the good quality food at a good price beer was good as well as service will definitely be back and dog friendly

The new owners only took over last week and have put in a lot of hard work.The food was excellent,well worth the wait while everything is freshly cooked and not microwaved.There is a big choice of pies and also gluten free and vegan options.All the staff are welcoming and helpful.Lots of car parking spaces.Would definitely recommend a visit.

The Woodside is under new ownership and tonight's food was amazing. The huge chain pub menu has gone infavor of a varied but more select choice of items. These are using fresh ingredients prepared to order and served on hot plates. The car park is flat as is the entrance and there was a warm wcome. Will definitely go again.

Booked a table of 8 people for Sunday lunch (1.45pm) sadly told no Sunday lunches left (only 4 turkey roast dinners) so had to make do with normal menu - however was told no mixed grills either hot chicken wings and other things off the menu.. the lasagne which was ordered came and was burnt around the edges, also the broccoli was undercooked - I have to say the staff are lovely as we visit this pub frequently for drinks mainly, however, this has not been the first time that food has been an issue and not been available to order as per the menu (or as advertised on the Sunday lunch board outside) when we have previously visited here to eat. We have felt really let down by this experience and very likely wont be eating out here again. Very disappointing.

Visited again today, after a gap of about 6 months and unlike other reviews I have read, the staff were inattentive and the food mediocre. The mashed potato just looked weird and was very solid. Reasonable priced though doubt I would eat there again having frequented in the past when the quality and friendly atmosphere were above and beyond.

The pub had another great value offer on. As a result, it was quite busy, so I had a bit of a wait to order and for food. The staff remained friendly and courteous, the food was nice and plentiful. I will be back.

Absolutely awful. Don't bother coming to this pub/restaurant. No point pre-ordering for Christmas meal as took 40 mins for starter to arrive! We had a better meal and better service in Nandos that evening.

Nice place that we found by chance on a drive out. We were not disappointed when we went inside as it's a lovely place with plenty of choice of drinks and the food smells and looks amazing. We will definitely be going back to try the food. The atmosphere was buzzing as the rugby was on but it was in the other side of the pub so didn't bother the diners, nice to find a pub that still shows sports but not in the dining area so you can still eat and have a conversation without the TV over the top of you.

I came to work from this pub last week and the service was exceptional, all the staff were super friendly and attentive. I was ther eworking from a laptop for quite a while and didn't feel rushed at all. I stayed for a couple of coffees and some lunch and it was perfect. would recommend!

Went for the quiz night, as we have done many times in the past. Microphone problems, a late start and winning two straight lines, we were told they weren't doing it as the rules suggested, which were written on the paper... 🤷 Nice selection of drinks at slightly higher prices than the pubs down the road in Brampton. It's a nice place, but the staff seemed to struggle a little, this particular night....

This is the second time I've taken my 10 year old daughter to this friendly and cosy pub. I offered to try a different place, but no. She was so enamoured with the food on her first visit, that she insisted we call again. She enjoys the all day breakfast. Minus egg, mushroom and tomato. She says they have the best hash browns she's tasted. Service was quick and efficient.. I was also pleasantly surprised at the (assuming landlords) openness and easy to talk to. We only live at Holme hall and so will be back to order another breakfast no doubt.

We had Xmas day lunch at The Woodside. It was the best Xmas Day we have had out. Beautiful food, great atmosphere and most importantly we were rushed as we have experienced elsewhere on Xmas Day. Our group aged 6 years old to 92 years old and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely book again for next year

I've been here many times previously but gradually the food has deteriorated & today's experience was awful. I ordered lasagna that came almost charcoal black & welded to the dish, so I asked for a replacement. This came swimming in a puddle of what looked like dirty water. It looked as if the lasagna had water poured over it to make it most. It was awful & inedible. The waitress asked if I wanted another - but absolutely not. I asked her if she would eat it & she agreed with me that it wasn't edible. I just ate the salad. No apology at all. I won't be visiting here again & will strongly tell others how awful the food is. The other meals weren't very good either.

I recently came here for a drink with my partner for a drink as we were early for the school run pickup. It was almost £12 for a pint and a half of cranberry juice (I no longer drink alcohol). I find the price excessive and I lived in Central London for two years. When I asked for an itemised receipt, the barstaff seemed disgruntled at this request. The pub seemed clean and warm and the staff were smartly dressed for work.

Booked a table of 14 mid week for a Sunday evening 16:15 obviously majority wanted their Sunday Roast offered Arrived to being told, No yorkshires no stuffing no this no that. Order Beef & Ale pie with seasoned veg and mash. Alongside multiple food order issues again not having this and that. Food arrived, pie was something out of box, bag of microwaved veg no seasoning and smash for mash, charge around £14 Didn’t let it dampen the mood so ordered desert, Crumble of the day… Sounds great, well it could have been if they hadn’t burnt the top of my crumble and still served it me. Food 2/10 Still edible but not worth the cost. Waiter 8/10 apologetic and attentive

Work Xmas meal and we were really impressed with everything from placing the booking online, confirmation, meal choices and the service on the night. We had a set Xmas menu 3 courses for 7 people. Curtis, Sam, Michael and Ieuan looked after us well. I had fhe soup (tasted homemade) Beef bourgignon (more like a shank of meat in amazing gravy) and a chocolate torte. We had a nice table in a semi-private area away from other people. We will be back!

Very long association with this place. The hands have changed but the quality remains good with some of the old staff still working. Visited after a gap of over a year. Still cleanliness is maintained and the quality of food remains same and good.

Me and 11 colleagues went for Christmas lunch yesterday and everything about the visit was superb, the food was lovely and the chef had carefully observed the special dietary requests for 3 of our party certainly going the extra mile!. A big thank you to Curtis who graciously managed late number changes (due to illness) and was kind, helpful and professional. Highly recommend.

8 of us called in on the off chance of having Sunday lunch there. The staff were very helpful and the food really good would definately recomend the Woodside

Staff very friendly, not eaten here yet but the quality looks really good, only draw back is dog owners with muddy footwear.

We came for my Dad's 70th birthday and had a buffet meal. We had an area cordoned off for our party and it was great to have the space to ourselves. The food was delicious - salads, sandwiches, chicken, sausage rolls and quiches, followed by lovely chocolate brownies and profiteroles. The team really looked after us and even offered us takeaway containers to take the leftovers home. Thanks to Sue, Curtis, Holly, Jemma, Ieuan and Connor for a great evening 😀

Always friendly relaxed atmosphere fortunately they have kept the old staff who always make us welcome. The food was ok.

I had Puff pastry steak and ale pie. Well it tasted quite nice but there was more pastry than filling along with frozen chips and I guess frozen veg. carrots peas mainly. Overall taste was ok but for £12 not really good value. Doombar beer was ok and price reasonable. Another had chicken etc burger - he wasn't impressed another lasagne which was ok , and chicken leek pie which I think was ok. We will no doubt visit again but not regular as prior to Stonegate taking over.

Visited for evening meal on reservation with friends from the US. When ordering was told that they didn’t have three out of four entrees we selected from the menu including fish & chips. The reason given was due to the high volume of patrons the previous days. After making other choices again told not available. Managed to order one sirloin steak which was rock hard and inedible. Had to resort to hamburger for one meal. Other food was poorly cooked. Desert was not worth money charged. The waiter was pleasant and apologetic. Very disappointed.

Booked a table for 5 people and a high chair for Sunday lunch, arrived on time ordered drinks, went to the bar to order food to be told there was no Sunday dinners left. At 3 o clock. 1. You should have told us when we walked in there was no Sunday dinners left we wouldn’t have ordered drinks. 2. You should make sure there is enough food for people who have BOOKED a table. Although you did refund our drinks we drove round for an hour and a half trying to find another place that would take a booking for 6 people at such short notice. Nowhere did so my partners birthday was ruined we had to go home with our 11 month old son who was now very cranky from not having his dinner. His brother and girlfriend had driven up from Manchester for the meal. Very disappointed will not be returning
