Decent food and drinks especially for the cost :)

Fantastic service i asked for a well cooked surloin steak and they mistakenly gave me a medium rare but resolved the issue instantly and apologised profusely and even asked if i wanted a free dessert bless them very polite and one of my favourite places to eat and drink atmosphere is always good i hope the staff do not change anytime soon as they are fantastic plus i said no to the free dessert and they instantly resolved the issue i cannot express how important good cistomer service is and they hit the nail on the head id give this place 10 stars if i could leep up the good work!!!

Just know exactly what your getting with a spoons 👌 often go for breakfast when shopping

Lovely place to stop and have breakfast, lunch or dinner. The prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly. I live locally so no need to stay in the hotel.

We just had our breakfast here as we have many times before. The food has always been good but did have occasions when they didn't come with the tomato on, a quick query to a staff member confirmed politely that they had run out of tomatoes (if I recall we had a tomato shortage at the time), the staff are always polite and welcoming, but this could have been a whole different story lf there had been a mushroom missing from my plate......

Stayed 2 nights (2 rooms) for a family christening. Booked on site parking in advance. Rooms excellent, food better than our local Wetherspoons and service from all staff and duty managers better than expected. Central to Chesterfield. Lift only goes to 1st floor so if mobility problems ensure rooms 100- booked not 200- but that aside expectations exceeded and great steaks and breakfasts. We'll done all. Will be 1st choice when next with family in Chesterfield

Lovely, busy place to visit. Cheap drinks!

Curry i ordered was barely warm including the rice. Didn't eat it, member of staff took it away after I told her the issue and she said sorry about that and that was it. No mention of replacing it. Never saw her again.. Really really poor customer service... If I could give a zero star rating I would.

Didn't stay in a room hence the 1 star. Visited here on a day out. Fast table service. Good atmosphere. First 'Spoons I've visited where you go downstairs for the loos rather than up. No food order this time, but maybe next. Would recommend on price alone.

Breakfast was really nice. After working all night we are all hungry. The breakfast was prepared fresh. You can have an unlimited hot drinks.

We stayed back in October to attend a family party in the town only for 1 night. Having booked it at a reasonable price i wasn't expecting great things but was absolutely blown away by the standard of the room. I stay in a lot of hotels due to my work. Really impressed with this place, the staff were really pleasant and actually care about their customers. 10 out of 10

We like eating here, but there is no car park, which really annoys us, it's on the corner of a very busy road, so it's very difficult to cross over to get to the building.

Me and my wife went on a Wednesday dinner time .50% of the tables were full of dirty pots and glasses.nobody seemed bothered about clearing them apart from 1 women.not a good advert for a hotel . Food good though, Just need to get tables cleared and cleaned.

Food service was very slow, the barmaid got our drinks wrong twice and blamed us despite our emails proving it was her, not our order that was wrong. The disabled toilet is disgusting. Not only does it smell of urine, it had a puddle around the toilet, the toilet itself has a broken flush handle and the toilet door is hard to lock and unlock. This is a disabled facility, you are supposed to make my life easier, not harder.

I work away 3 days a week. Always spend my evenings in Spoons all over the country. Rotherham and Durham this week. Have been to 100s with very few bad experiences. Except here. On occasion you order food (or a drink) on app and they have run out. Obviously you have pre paid in good faith based on the item being shown as available. 99 times out of 100 they come to your table, apologise, and ask what you would like as a substitute with no caveats. At the end of the day the item was not marked by the pub as unavailable. Not here. I substituted in a dish of roughly equivalent value. They wanted me to stump up the difference of £1 even though I had pre paid in good faith. This has never happened before. Received conflicting info from staff about the order as well as attitude. Took a refund on the dish, walked out and wont return. This is also a Spoons with rooms I have been considering using on a regular basis. Ibis here I come! Just unfathomably poor customer service descision. Its common knowledge if you have a bad experience you tell 10 people, if you have a positive experience you tell 1 person.

Lovely pub nice meals at good prices.

We called in for a meal on a Thursday night. It was curry night. The curry was good, as were the cheap drinks. The only negative was the Nan bread was covered in butter and had gone soggy, too soggy to pick up and eat.

I come in once a week, on a Thursday,and usually have mini fish 🐟 chips 🍟 and baked beans 🫘 which never disappoints. The fish is so moist,I've never had a bad one yet 👍Thank you very much 😊❤️

A great 3 Star hotel... stayed during the week...clean modern rooms was pleasantly surprised.. with a JD Wetherspoons pub downstairs.. had a brilliant evening meal and breakfast.... For a budget hotel I don't think you can beat it..... And great location aswell... definitely would stay again...

Just stayed for a couple of drinks after going to a concert at the Library. God service and clean.

Called in for a small breakfast, poor quality, poor service and bad attitude of staff

We used to go about every 3 weeks for drinks and dinner , but not have not been for several months as the food seemed to be poor. We (4) went last night. American cheese burger , American burger . chicken pizza and roast veg. pizza. Only the latter was any good. The burgers were very poor, not as good as a rustlers microwave burger. I suppose you get what you pay for. The beer ( stout was good ) We did not stay long and won't be back.

i have had many good valuenice meals in weatherspoons but yesterdays 17/9/24 meal of fish chips & musshy peas was a disgrace both my wifes & my food was done to a crisp unable to cut it with a knife cold peas app. 8 chips rubbish meal surly staff

Affordable priced food. Good service. Tables cleared and cleaned regularly. Nobody wants to rush you off, as you finish eating. Sit and have another drink if you want and have a good catch up. Was a good place to meet an old friend today.

They will not take a booking, you have to book and pay online. I could not do it because my smartphone wasn't compatible.

Booked it for one night. No staff on reception, but a rich buzz on the house phone had the manager in attendance. Had a good night's sleep. In the morning I discovered that I'd broken my phone. The girl behind the bar promptly lent me hers, as I tucked into my excellent eggs Benedict.

We have used Wetherspoons many times and have mostly been pleased with the cheap and cheerful quality and prices. We know it’s not a Michelin star restaurant and don’t expect that. Last night our friends came down from York, staying in the Portland Hotel (we were going to a show) so we met them in ‘spoons for a quick meal before we went. I ordered on the app so it was ready when we arrived (the traffic was bad) Our tables hadn’t been cleared or wiped before the server brought our food. Having my favourite steak, usually a good choice, I was very disappointed with the quality. My friend also has steak, both were thick with fat and very chewy. My friend asked for a quinoa salad to accompany. They didn’t have any, so she was given a wilted green salad instead. My hubby ordered the ‘gourmet’ burger. Basically a couple of shrunken burgers with a slice of cheese thrown on top. Not appetising at all. At no point did a server check on how we were doing. They were clearly busy but a check in is a requirement for ‘spoons staff. Very disappointed, I hope this is a one off.

Good cheap food did not stay the night very busy place.

The room was clean and a good size. The shower room was great. However the the bed was very uncomfortable, and I hardly slept. As it was a pub we expecting to eat there, but the food was disgusting.

Rock hard beds, two singles propped together, no reception staff when you need something, also no batteries in tv remote. Waiting staff accused my relative of being intoxicated when she closed her eyes for two seconds and said you cant sleep here, errmmm she wasnt asleep and she only had half a cider. Bad attitude and dont do that in front of a packed pub to ridicule us. Will we be back, no

DO NOT USE THE APP! Ordered two drinks and a meal in the app, after twenty minutes and no drinks we went to the bar.Even though the money had left our account it wasn’t showing on their system so they decided we hadn’t placed an order even though our bank clearly showed we had. The woman manager thought the whole situation was hilarious and point blank refused to do anything to help us. We regularly use the pub but not any more. Pathetic service and a total rip off. We use Weatherspoons all over the country and what a shame our local one has this attitude.

Typical Spoons fayre in a great location for me prior to work. Always get breakfast here, and serving it until 12 works well. Service is always with a smile.

Went here for a lovely meal with the missus at 8. We loved it. Food was beautiful and fresh. Everytime we go here the staff are so friendly and helpful! Lovely environment.

We visited as a family of 4 adults and 2 children for a meal on my granddaughters 12th birthday (her great grandparents had driven from Cambridge for a garden party which the weather cancelled) so we decided to go for a meal together in wetherspoons as a last minute decision, my daughter ordered drinks on the app as she usually does, when the drinks arrived the manager put drinks on the table 3 alcohol and 2 soft drinks ,she then asked my 30 year old daughter who had ordered and paid for the drinks for ID, she looks her age and no longer gets asked anywhere for ID so wasn't carrying her purse just her phone with banking app, she explained she is 30 and offered banking and passport info etc whatever she had on her phone, the manager was extremely rude and snatched up the drink in front of everyone and took it away like she was so professional she couldnt hide her smug satisfaction with herself, we then went to the bar to reason with this awful power hungry woman who had clearly been slapped for laughing as a child, I explained I am an SIA front line badge holder with 30 years licensensing work and I understand the challenge 25 policy but if she wished to be petty she had actually served my daughter with 2 more alcoholic drinks and left them at tge table, and the point of licencing law is the prevention of allowing under age to purchase alcohol, make yor mind up woman either she in need of ID to be served or she isn't? By this point she realised she had made a bad decision and then when I asked her to refund the money for the drink she took away from the table she flatly refused saying it is " company policy " again with an uncontrollable smug satisfaction smile, by this point I was positively ready to slap her for smiling myself and instead asked for her Christian name not full name so that I could complain further to her senior manager, which she flatly refused to give me any further discussion and turned and ran behind the bar into the staff area , my daughter went outside with my partner very upset and my partners parents and grandchildren sat at our table my granddaughter now also very upset, I then asked another member of staff if she would give me any information and confirm that smiler is the only duty manager available and she was equally as rude and told me "" well obviously we wouldn't ask you for ID" well thankyou for feeling the need to make that point, but as my daughter was served alcohol regardless of who she was buying the drink for the point is she was allowed to purchase alcoho,l then yes I do wish to take this matter further and would politely ask for a point of reference such as a first name which many employees of many other businesses have displayed on their staff badge, so this Is far from an outrageous request , this second member of staff who about as happy to be there as her manager and were clearly trained on the same staff rudeness course, was equally as horid as unhelpful and we cancelled the family meal and left , absolutely disgusted, As I am diabetic and still needed to eat somewhere soon we actually went to the other wetherspoons nearby and my daughter was served by the manager herself who never asked for any ID and was happily chatting to my daughter while serving both our drinks and meal, and was a genuinely lovely person who made everyone feel much better especially my poor granddaughter who's birthday it was . Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a manager ,she is not suited to any job in customer services at all. Power hungry does not cover it

A good service one of my favourite places.

Stayed here on a long weekend break. The room was good, and clean , parking is limited but managed to get a last minute space . It's well worth staying if you are looking as a Base to visit local areas

Lovely place friendly staff, great food and a lovely historical place to have a walk around. I'd give it 10 out of 10.

This was an incredibly frustrating stay. The water in the sink wouldn't drain at all. Please refer to the video. After discussing it with the manager, she initially acknowledged the issue and said she would have someone fix it. However, she later told us that all the sinks were like this, claiming it was normal, and refused to admit the problem or arrange for repairs. On top of that, we were woken up by loud noises at 7am, making it impossible to continue sleeping. Overall, the experience was terrible, and I absolutely do not recommend this place.

Lovely pub with excellent service.

I've spent the night here a couple of times and always been impressed at the cleanliness of the rooms. Separate entrance to the hotel from the pub with access to the pub if required through an internal door. The food is standard for a Wetherspoons establishment, nothing to complain about here.

POOR SERVICE. Ordered meal via Wetherspoons app and meal was brought 10 minutes after ordered but it was 25 minutes before eventually received drink and pub was not busy. Very poor service. Worst run Wetherspoon I have been in.

They have great food they just lacked a bit on taking orders and cleaning up tables, but they were very busy.

Dropped in for a pint and a bite to eat..steak cooked yesterday and onion rings that had been cast into mount doom.

It's a spoons, you know the craic. Crap food that's not cheep anymore, the dregs of humanity as clientele, staff who don't give a toss. The hotel is mint though as are all the Wetherspoon's hotels that I've stayed in.

You can usually count on the Wetherspoons chain to offer good quality food at a better than reasonable price. The Portland Hotel did not disappoint! It was quiet busy when we were there but still found seats . Our order was brought very promptly and was up to Wetherspoons usual good standard.

Standard JD Weathetspoons. Very busy in town with cheap bear. Only at least 2 beers had ran out. But sorted latter. Will be back Food being eaten by others looked great and was a reasonable price. Certainly good value, especially the coffees. The other Weatherspoons in town has better coffee?

We called in for breakfast and it was very good. One cooked English breakfast plus one breakfast muffin, arrived on our table within 5 minutes. Good service, helpful staff. Free refils on the coffee too.

My daughter and I went for some food on the 1st April. We was charged wrong for hers which ok it was 60p over this we got back then I noticed that eve I was charged incorrect they charged me for a large breakfast brunch but I only had a small one I've returned to once again complain. And was told by the manager because it was yesterday he couldn't give me my refund so I would have to get in touch with head office.. yet on the site it's stated the pub manager should deal with it as they will probably pass it back on to them.. I will never go back again

How the staff are here... Not only did they loose our order and even after chasing twice, after 40minutes waiting there was nothing they could do. Shocking customer service absolutely no sympathy and to be told we're busy you'll just have to wait, even for a cheap place to eat is shocking even for me Place is a joke... No wonder these are shutting pubs if this is representative of their service

Archie and Mikail were perfect hosts- servers etc and made the visit VERY ENJOYABLE- WE 'DO' come again because of this kind of service- it was absolutely teeming with folk today after the run and the footie win yesterday- it just shows how many people feel this the perfect venue to celebrate and socialise- this couldn't be done without the quality of service that is provided! "BOTH THESE YOUNG LADS (That I watched served so many in so little time) deserve a bonus!"
