Olde House Restaurant in Chesterfield

Had wedding breakfast there and it was amazing. Food was delicious, staff were friendly and very accommodating, a very special thank you to Julie and her team!!

Went to here for food, didn’t look busy, but was told an hours wait for food!! So didn’t stay! Won’t be going back!

Went on a low key date and the experience here from the friendly polite staff to quick service to the amazing food was great highly recommended

I hired one their function rooms for our company Christmas party and wow. Every single member of staff was so accommodating, everything I initially asked for was done. A huge shout out to Julie and terri for making our Christmas party one to remember. Thanks to you and all your team. Everyone loved it

Whenever I go past this pub, I think that place looks lovely and now I've been in, I can say it definitely is! The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming and absolutely beautiful at Christmas. All the staff are so helpful and cheerful and really go the extra mile for customers. We have booked onto a few of the Christmas family events are I'm looking forward to the ones still to come. We had lunch with Santa. Santa was lovely, Jess the Elf was great and the manager is so caring too. The food was delicious and well cooked. Nice to have multiple vegetarian options for Sunday lunch. Very reasonably priced. A really magical treat and my new favourite pub, thank you! 😊

We visited to see Santa and have a meal and the overall experience was amazing. The food was really lovely and Santa was so lovely to speak to, despite my daughter being very nervous. I have to give a massive shout-out to Elf Jess who did everything in their power to help my daughter feel welcome and happy. My daughter can be nervous with new people but by the end of the lunch, she was happily talking to Elf Jess and showing them the present she got from Santa. Fantastic service highly recommend!

Highly recommend the Olde House! Their food is delicious and staff is very friendly. Anna and Lewis were great on a busy night.

By and far the staff made the experience here , from check in to departure the staff went above and beyond to be welcoming , chatty and helpful We used it to stay whilst visiting Chatsworth house and got an amazing deal and only 15th a drive to the house one way and close to chesterfield the other

Ordered on QR, fast service,I'd ordered gf accidentally ,this was queried by a lovely waitress and rectified. Chips lovely, best I have had in a long time when dining out. Definitely will return.

The food was lovely and so were the staff. Lewis was attentive and efficient. Had a great meal and a nice dessert. No complaints.

Paying top prices for sub quality food that was delivered to the table cold. One meal was replaced after the first ping ping meal was sent to the table for the replacement meal to be sent cold! You couldnt make it up, I ordered a mixed grill and left more than half as the steak was just full of gristle and fat. First and last time here, definitely will not put more of my hard earned over that bar again.

Been for a meal this evening and I find the need to say what a wonderful experience it was. From the very start our waiter, Lewis, was exceptional. He cleaned our table while we were sat at it, even though it appeared perfectly clean, he paid attention to my grandson in his high chair and entertained him every time he passed by, he double checked our order and checked we were OK several times during our meal. He was clean and polite and went above and beyond what I would expect from a waiter. He is truly an asset to The Olde House and a fine example of how customer service should be delivered - every establishment should have a little bit of Lewis.

I stayed at the olde house hotel for 3 nights on my first visit and 2 nights on my second visit, and each time, the service was great with very kind and jovial staff. The rooms were very clean, and the beds were very comfortable to sleep in. The staff who checked me in was especially very kind. I would recommend the olde house.

The Olde House is the best bar restaurant I have ever been to. The food is great, staff are wonderful. Not only that there an event going on all the time for all the family. This pub should be in the top ten best hotels and restaurants. Thanks for making my visits great.

Our stay at the ‘Olde House’ in Chesterfield was very enjoyable, The room was a good size, clean and comfortable. We also had dinner there, which was very good and reasonably priced. The staff and manager were also very friendly and I highly recommend staying at the Olde House!

Staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't have to wait long for our meals and we all enjoyed them. Myself and another member of our Party had the mixed grill and they were nicely cooked to our liking.The discount vouchers we received throught the post for 30% off main meals were an added incentive to visit The Olde House when we were deciding where to meet up with friends for lunch.

Had a lovely lasagne, hot and really nice. Not microwaved and rubbery like some chain pubs can be. Service was good and the waiting staff pleasant and friendly. Really good value for money.

We booked 3 family rooms and were more than adequate for our needs. Comfy beds, clean and quite large really. We had Sunday lunch and it was good value, tasty and served with a smile. Iv'e rarely stayed in a hotel with such a varied entertainment program, the forecast listed on the information boards was amazing. Exceptionally family friendly and ideal for extended family gatherings - cot provided etc. A shout out to the Manager who was outstanding with us. Thank you

The Old House is really good for a night out, and just for nipping in to for a good meal and a wonderful drink. It has an amazing atmosphere, and a very good welcome from the staff.

Attended a wedding and one particular bar person was shocking . Then he refused to serve me said I had too much to drink 3 pints.It boiled down to him no liking ex miliary and made no quarms saying it.Vet the staff

Our experience at the Olde house was quite poor. We ordered turkey and it tasted like cardboard and paper. I've never eaten a meal that was so lacking in taste. The gravy was like water. We asked the waitress who was courteous and kind in her service for the gravy to be thicker in texture and she looked at us as if we were poor children from Oliver Twist. "Please sir can I have some more food". The service at the bar was superb. We were served by a tall young man who had a photographic memory and remembered everything and we ordered a lot. Thank you Old House Team. The kitchen needs to sample the tasteless food it serves and make amends ASAP.

Better than I expected, I didn't expect much. Friendly and nice staff, food was fine and good value. Burgers always good!!

Excellent pub grub served with a smile in pleasant surroundings. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and unusually spacious. The staff couldn't have been more engaged. I will definitely return and recommend to others.

Stayed in one of the double rooms. Very clean, bed was so comfortable. Hotel rates reasonable. Staff are very friendly. We had a cooked breakfast every day. This, also included Tea, Coffee, Cereal, Toast, Orange Juice, and fresh fruit. Russell the chef cooked breakfast to perfection. Also thanks to the awesome ladies on the breakfast crew, Shell & Kay. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We would definitely stay again.

Hubby and I stayed here earlier in the year for a week end and love it so much we decided to come back to stay here while visiting family, I was lovely the first time we stayed but even better this time round, the staff are amazing especially Shell and Kay the breakfast girls, warm welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. We ate out once but loved the food and staff so much that we ate at the olde house 6 of the 7 days bring family here too. It is the best place I have ever stayed in. I cannot wait to come back again highly recommended, such lovely staff and all work hard.

Nice food and friendly atmosphere

Attended a family funeral today so decided to travel over yesterday, and booked 2 rooms for the 4 of us. Arrived approximately 1430 hours, booked in upon arrival quickly and efficiently by Terry. Came down to the bar area later for a few drinks and a meal. I had sirloin steak cooked exactly as requested. My Mum and cousin had fish chips. Huge fish which they struggled to finish. My other cousin had the gammon. If the plate would have had a pattern on it he would have taken that with it. He demolished the lot. Terry was still on duty and took the time to come over, sat and had a conversation with us. She told us the history of the pub, and it's origins. Proper belly laughed with her, she was such good company. Drinks competitively priced. Room was spotless, had everything we needed. Wonderful big bath which I took the opportunity to use. If I had one criticism it would be to perhaps fixing grab handles on the wall, or the bath. Extremely comfortable nights sleep. Next morning we went down to breakfast. Unfortunately I forgot to get the name of our server, but she could not have been anymore helpful. She gave us the impression that she was a grafter with her workload. Started duty at 0530 hours cleaning, serving and I think going on to service the rooms. All of the staff were so pleasant and accommodating. Suffice to say I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Chesterfield area.

Only given 4star this visit three roast dinners ordered meals were nice but the thing that upset me was tiny jug of gravy was given to us so I asked for more gravy only to be told we charge for more gravy so paid come on olde house 50£ paid for meals don't be skinflints been good customers for years might see you soon?

Lovely venue, friendly staff, great prices

What a fabulous venue for celebrating the wedding of our friends! The ceremony was held in the Needham Room, which was a lovely intimate space for a gathering of family and close friends then the after celebrations were through in the larger function room, which was beautifully decorated and the tables and chairs were just perfect! The evening came and the DJ set got us all up dancing, the buffet was delicious and plenty of it! Julie and the team worked extremely hard to make the whole day so very special! Highly recommended to anyone looking for a wedding venue!

I want to start by saying the bar/waiting staff were brilliant, this review really isn't negative towards them. We booked a table for 15 a while ago for a 50th bday meal, we was told there was an hour wait on food that was fine as we could see it was packed, the first 2 meals came out after 1 hour and 25 min the next 2 came out about 10 minutes after then more came quite a while after that unfortunately a couple of meals had to be sent back because they were burnt I had medium rare steak which was so well done I actually couldn't eat it so asked for a replacement the next 1 was edible but not medium rare . My husbands sauce had actually set in the boat and came out in 1 lump. The staff continued to smile be polite and change our meals. We did complain to a manager and to be fair was all given a free drink. We have been to the olde house dozens of times but earlier in the day not in the evening and always had a lovely food for this reason we would still come back but I'm not sure we would come in the evening/weekend again but stick to lunchtime. The staff were put under a lot of pressure and we were very greatful for their hard work .

First visit for many years. Friendly, helpful staff. Food is much the same standard as many Marston pubs - not the best. The Lasagne seemed more pasta than meat, the only saving grace was that it was hot. This is more than can be said about the side of chips - not even close to warm, never mind hot. Asked staff to change them, which they were happy to do. The chips that came back seemed to indicate that they had been refried, as they were far crisper than the first serving. Having had similar experiences at other Marstons outlets, I think we will probably draw the line at visiting this chain again.

Excellent. Chicken tikka masala was really tasty and the naan bread was soft and fluffy. Pie was great as always. Steak was cooked really well. Chips are lovely here. A great meal.

Booked a table for 6.30 with two children in the group. 8 o clock no food ....we have a wait on food. Poor service avoid if you can't wait two hours. Disappointed dosnt cover it

A very busy pleasant pub, serving a lot of food all day long.

The blond lady who served the tables was racist and rude. The food was awful, especially the scrambled eggs that were clumped and dry. Maybe they thought we were tourists, but me and my husband we have lived in the UK since 2018. Scottish people are definitely more welcoming and know how to cook. The room was clean at least. P.s. the review has definitely been sent to the right place. We were a family of 6, we rented 2 rooms. My husband asked for "warm milk" and the lady made it difficult for him, she made him repeat it at least 4 times and was snarky. We've never received such treatment in Scotland where we live. It's awful that you are now trying to make it seems I've sent the review to the wrong place.

Amended from 5* After todays visit I came to the conclusion to drop the stars after multiple times being dissatisfied but today is the worse of all. Ordered mega mixed grill and a surf and turf and was supposed to be rare. Doesn’t look rare, more blue. Not that it mattered as couldn’t cut the rump, fatty and stringy bits everywhere so left both 8oz rumps and by far the worse quality rump we’ve had anywhere. Not the first time here either however thought it was a one off. Gammon was like a slab of fat. Ordered mozzarella dough balls and at till went through as mozzarella and cheddar bites and I noticed this was wrong so mentioned it’s supposed to say mozzarella dough balls. Got assured that’s what it’s called on till and yet when it came out, was totally the wrong thing and it’s quite annoying that I queried this at the till. Won’t bother again, feels like a mockery now.

Food service quick and efficient,Lady taking order at the bar a bit unsociable didn't seem to be enjoying her work.

Booked on line for 6.15pm but staff had no record, proved booking by showing text message. Couldn't order at table, kept clicking off menu(could've been my fault) Asked at bar to order, no problem but 45min wait and then told no dough left for pizza requested. Decided to try elsewhere.

Fish finger sandwich very disappointing never came in a bloomer as stated on menu and no tarter sauce in it also stated on menu ☹️

Staff very friendly we were taken to table but only one problem has the chef got to put red cabbage or what ever it is on the dinners as our party DOSENT like it we have told staff but it keeps beening put on plates only one more problem when we order sweet two of our party like applepie and custard as one is diabetic but for the last three weeks we have been told sorry we haven't got any you can have a laugh with the staff keep up the good work we I book online for a Sunday as it saves father in law cooking

We came in this evening and the food was lovely, a woman named charlotte served us and she was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be visiting again.

Took the kids for a couple of hours. Lovely little play area outside for them. Staff are brilliant.

This is a very good stop-over pub. The rooms were a good size and bed very comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and the food especially breakfasts was excellent

*Updated 2024 - First the positives, Staff were pleasant, the Chips and gammon were nice, as for the rest of the meal, utter rubbish, had the mixed grill, Steak not cooked right, asked for medium it arrived blue/rare, most fatty piece I have ever seen and tasted of what I can only describe as soap, Chicken breast was squeaky when cutting with a knife and absolutely bone dry on the inside, sausages were mostly all gristle and undercooked, mushroom was burnt, peas like bullets - My Partner had the roast dinner, Yorkshire pudding was dry and tasted old, vegetables were more than just al dente bordering on raw, I did complain to staff who were uninterested and dismissive and didn't do anything to rectify this mess - will be taking my complaint direct to Marstons.

Chicken was dry and rubbery. steak was very fatty. The kebab was lovely and I shall reorder another time.
