Best pub I found in Salisbury for live Music Ale was very decent too

i used to love the winchester gate, i used to recommend this pub to everyone and always come back whenever im back in my home town. but the head bartender made it unbearable for me to come back. she is UNBELIEVABLY rude, always making snide comments when im having a private conversation with my friends. taking my half drank pint away just because she would rather close up early. just a horrible vibe in there and its a shame that one of my favourite venues is runied by ONE person.

Absolutely love this pub amazing band,vibes,and festivals,but most of all the @bigsmartquiz on a Wednesday is the funniest entertaining night we come every week without fail, the best pub for entertainment by far ☺️

Another gem of a pub! Always local beers on draft, a warm welcome, an iconic indoor venue and great beer garden. Small car park and some limited on street parking. Short walk from town centre.

14/10/23 - Get The Blessing (indoor gig). I'm not local (Bristol) but follow GTB gigs. This was interesting..I guess the venue has a capacity of 50 max. So to see this world class act in a living room sized venue was a treat. A very appreciative crowd enjoyed a first half of never heard before (new album) tracks followed by 2nd half of old GTB classics. I really appreciate a venue as this having this sort of show. I also love the fact GTB are willing to appear and put on an absolutely full on performance in this setting!

This is an authentic small music pub, nothing pretentious just good bear, nice people and real music.

Great venue with a fantastic atmosphere, some live music and a stunning garden area.

I visit this place once a month for Poetika… a regular spoken word night that meets on the Third Tuesday of Every Month. Always a good night. Themed events and the hosts always dress the stage and wear costumes on theme. Good crowd and great atmosphere. The outdoor performance space is styled like a Big Top with one half of the beer garden covered and the top part open to the elements. Disabled access is not really available as access to this building and garden is via a few flights of steps.

Not enough staff for a live music event, great music though.

Love the atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Every gig I've been to has been fun in this intimate venue. The loaded chips are amazing, generous portions and various diets catered for.

Go to this great independent pub. Prices are reasonable options are good and the bartenders have personality. A proper pub at last!

Only been here a couple of times but enough to be recognised and welcomed. Beers change in a regular basis, not too bad a price. Check the web site for events, quiz nights popular. Pretty much want you want from a local pub. 👍

Great little Gem just outside the city centre. Life music and a great selection of drinks. A must if your a fan of real music, by real musicians and not your "plastic manufactured" top 40 nonsense

What a fantastic night I had at the Poetica event. I enjoyed a local sour beer with great company. A very friendly and welcoming lady at the bar was a perfect host. A great local live music and events bar on the edge of Salisbury City. Definitely worth a visit, especially when there’s music or any other event on!

Just want to say a huge thank you to Jamie and his team- we came from Kent to see the fabulous Keston Cobblers club and had a fantastic night. Jamie and all the staff were friendly, the outdoor area was amazing . We had the fishfinger meal and it was delicious and piping hot! The event was so well managed with someone on the door checking tickets and issuing wrist bands. Everyone attending had a good time- just wish my local pub was as well managed- especially as their music licence is upto 2am!! Can't wait to revisit the Winchester Gate when we come back to the lovely Salisbury

One of the best pubs I have ever been! Doing loads for Salisbury's culture and entertainment. Super nice staff and cool local ciders. Definitely coming back!!!

Don’t answer the phone, they were playing music so loud that it could be heard across the bridge. Very disrespectful to people in the area. It could have just been settled in a phone call but management obviously doesn’t care.

A classic Salisbury Tap House. Friendly staff, plenty of seating and a good atmosphere.

A lot to like about it, good range of ales, support for music, and a big cider festival when we arrived. It's possibly only that latter point reducing our score a fraction as it was a bit chaotic, rushed and not that friendly at the bar, etc. I suspect better at some other point and if we're in the area again we'll find out.

Lovely venue for live events and always a good rotation of ciders behind the bar. They have lots of live entertainment on offer each week as well.

This place is truly a Great pub, garden works well with space for live music, the live music is brilliant, i think the guys running this place have got it down to a fine art and the quality of folk has improved brilliantly i would always recommend this pub for live music.

Awesome little pub for close knit gigs. Atmospheric with the authentic original beams, has a lot of character and old worldly feeling. Charming beer garden out the back with a small stage for outdoor acts. Very friendly staff as well

Great time at surprise 40th birthday held at The Winchester in outside garden. Great there was cover, as there was a rain shower so didn't spoil the fun. Well worth a visit when visiting Salisbury.

Wonderful pub just on the outskirts of Salisbury city centre, providing the best live music, quiz night on a Wednesday which is brilliant by the way, and they also have comedy on sometimes. Lovely staff, good beers on tap, and the tent garden is simply wonderful, you must go!

The Wednesday pub quiz is awesome, love the new outside seating area!! - circus themed! Staff are so friendly and lovely and the two girls are definitely kept busy all night getting everyone's drinks orders. They do also do some food, but not in the evenings. Not sure on that one. Shame about the amount of stairs though, because im disabled ish lol, and stairs are my mortal enemy! Haha, seriously though it's awesome definitely recommend.

It's been a great pub for a while now. Free of tie to a big brewery, so always an interesting range of changing beers on tap. Recently upgraded their garden, where it feels like your sitting in a big top. New menu of loaded fries. Recommend the spicey ones which use Wiltshire chilli farm sauces. Nom nom nom.

Really nice experience. New garden arrangement with tented music entertainment space, wooden flooring and ample seating. Great choice of really ales, 6 on offer and tried 3, all very good. Good snacks, recommend the Smoking Chicken.

Had a brilliant time at the Winchester Gate during our trip to Salisbury! The outdoor tent area is FANTASTIC and I loved the variety of beers and Ciders to choose from . Loaded fries were delicious and really went down well, hence why we ordered 3 lots!!! Will definitely be back to see some live music in the tent :)

Had a fabulous time here! Felt like stepping into a warm and welcoming circus tent. Really fantastic food, great selection of drinks and the covid measures in place mean you feel safe while enjoying an evening in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Salisbury classic remaining a fantastic venue and social hub.

I went here because of the beer recommendations but it was too loud (music and youngsters). The beers were ok but not worth the walk in the rain or the hassle.

Great place for live music and good beers

A diamond in the rough that is Salisbury's music scene. Salisbury is plagued by covers bands and oldies who are still clinging on to "the dream" when really they should take learn from their hair lines and recead back to the audience. We don't want to hear you and your mate destroy a punk song classic after 7 pints of bitter. However. The Winchester Gate has a great PA, engaged sound man and touring acts. Go keep it alive!
