The Wide Mouth Frog @ Dalziel Park Motherwell in North Lanarkshire

Hard to say but the food here is so lacking, the venue is full of classy surroundings and settings (conveniently close to home) but the food is just lazy. The starters was prawns..just over done and full of smoked paprika, mines was belly pork, just far too fatty in proportion to eat, accompanied by just cubed black pudding?? lazy. The mains to keep it short was dry chicken, smelly monk fish and tough so much that could be fixed. Im holding back as I do love the rest of the place.

This was a lovely lovely location and the staff was very pleasant. The food was nice, but just not worth it, it is overpriced for the quality you receive, even for Edinburgh.

Lunch menu very good value and food excellent

On a beautiful sunny evening, my family and I enjoyed a meal in Dalziel Park hotel. We sat outside on the terrace overlooking the golf course, as we had a small dog. The waitress was very helpful and food and drinks were served efficiently. There was a wedding in one of the suites which we could hear because doors were open due to the heat. This did not disturb us because we were aware that the hotel is a popular wedding venue. Presentation of the food was very nice but food was average. Nevertheless, we were a party of six who enjoyed our visit. Carpark can be a bit tight especially when there is a wedding on. There is a children’s play area and outdoor seating in a variety of areas. Disabled access available and spacious toilet facilities. Separate bar area for drinks and snacks.

Quick and pleasant service. Steak pie and sticky toffee pudding were delicious.

Not the first time at the wide mouth frog,but won't be in a hurry to return. Staff were polite and efficient,but the food was distinctly average. Felt it was on the expensive side for what it was. Noise from the adjacent bar was also ott.

Big fan of Dalziel Park, and Saturday was no exception. we had a party of 11 for a family birthday. the service was outstanding. Menu choice was brilliant and the food itself was great. Will def be back soon.

We are regular visitors to DL park, and our latest visit was excellent. - Menu is a great size with fantastic selection. - We loved the value in the 2 for 1 on selected mains. - Of particular note, the steak pie and fish and chips are both lovely. Big portions across the board. - The staff are all lovely and seemed to be happy at work. - One minor thing, in our visits in the last few months (approx 3-4) we always seem to not be able to order our wine of preference as its unavailable. Maybe a supplier issue? Or just bad luck? Overall - definitely worth a trip!!

Nothing to write home about food pretty average

First time visit - whilst all the staff we came across were really lovely and attentive the food was very average and we didn’t really enjoy it very much and won’t be returning

5 stars all round from start to finish 6 for the décor which i think is very elegant we had a window seat over looking the golf course our meal was very nice beautiful presented finished with a drink at the bar in the lounge area next door. Would highly recommend.

Went in for breakfast one Sunday morning as it's near where we live and some friends had recommended doing so. Inside it was very busy and loud. Where we were sat, we seemed to be able to hear everyone else's conversations but could barely hear one another. Staff were friendly but seemed rushed off their feet. Took ages to get served. Ordered a cappuccino but couldn't taste coffee in it so they kindly replaced. Food was okay but bits were forgotten and had to wait on those which resulted in rest of food getting cold during the wait. Took a long time to get the bill. Not the relaxing Sunday morning brunch I'd envisaged. Don't think we'll go back again.

We are never disappointed when we come here, always consistently great food and service from Colin and the team. If you love homemade pate this is the best there is in the area, always the same recipe, unctuous, creamy and smooth as velvet…. doesn’t need the chutney it is that good! We also had the lambs liver, which was absolutely the best I have tasted. We spend a lot of time in the Cotswolds, Wiltshire and Hampshire where they rave about their lambs liver with creamy mash, not a patch on WMF@ Dalziel Park, with the gorgeous onion gravy and creamy mash, so tender and cooked with attention and lovely presentation. We so look forward to coming back. Well done everyone!!

Credit where credit is due I can't fault this restaurant. Went here for a nice lunch with my daughters and their partners on Saturday afternoon. There was also quite a big wedding going on at the time but that didn't impact our meal as they seem to have a completely separate function suite for weddings. Was nice to see all the wedding guests in their finery in the bar also. Service here was very good. Laid back but attentive. Mains of fish and chips and burgers and steak pie. All freshly cooked. The fish looked especially great. I don't normally eat deserts but decided to try the pear and frangipan tart and they others had the Katsu banana with salted caramel ice cream which we had all never seen before. Delicious apparently. Highly recommend eating here. I thought for the quality of the food and service it was pretty good value too. Also loved the decor. Small issue getting to the hotel as there was some kind of junior rugby tournament going on at the park next door and there was a bit of a traffic jam. Not the fault of the hotel at all of course and only delayed me about 10 minutes. Not sure if it happens every weekend or not but something to be aware of.

Visited here today for lunch with family. Beautiful interior, and we were shown to a good spacious table. Our party of 4 ordered different starters - all were enjoyed, particularly the prawn cocktail and the haddock croquette which were excellent. Mains arrived, one was excellent (chicken Kiev). The salmon and crab crumble was fine, but unfortunately the roast beef ordered by two of us arrived barely warm (a vent above us was blowing cold air which didn’t help) and the meat was extremely tough, so much so my mum couldn’t eat any of it. I have to say though that the service was excellent. Our friendly waitress noted that there was an issue with the meal and without prompting advised there would be no charge for those two mains. We decided not to have dessert and just settled bill and left. Although on this occasion some of the food just wasn’t up to scratch, I would try here again, as the starters were great, and we enjoyed the surroundings and the service.

Excellent meal from the Sunday menu. Friendly attentive staff without being overbearing and were happy to serve us with a small change from the menu, no issue at all. Glad you are back to work and we hope to return soon.

Visited Dalziel Park for a lovely anniversary meal . Beautiful surroundings, good ambience, very attentive staff, but food a bit of a let down. Had sirloin steak with Diane sauce and Rosemary fries followed by lemon tart. Unfortunately sauce for steak very very runny and no flavour. Don't know where the Rosemary was with the fries, but definitely no fresh herb or any taste of Rosemary at all. Sent lemon tart back and found it very poor. Soggy pastry and drowned with frozen fruits, which tasted okay, but tart very vey poor standard, seemed more like frozen tart, which had been defrosted and pastry gone soggy . Not the usual standard of Dalziel Park. Also partner has Eton mess sundae, which was also very poor, not a fresh raspberry in sight and almost couldn't find meringue; definitely not a Sundae, 3 scoops of ice cream on a plate drizzled with raspberry sauce a a few crumbs of meringues ido not make Eton mess sundae.

Took mum out for Sunday lunch, we've missed this place during lockdown! Fantastic portion sizes, delicious food, great service staff. The staff are incredibly nice, well informed about the menu & very attentive. Highly recommend the black forest sundae 🍨

We visited last night for dinner. i had an Itison voucher which gave us 2 courses for 2 people. I had booked a table for 6.30pm, we are arrived on time and were seated with menus. Nobody really came near us for a good 20 minutes which was not great (not sure if they were short staffed). Once our order was actually taken the food arrived quickly thereafter so it was a bit of a shame that we were left waiting as I would otherwise have rated 5. For starters we had the goats cheese and haggis bon bons and for mains macaroni and cheese and steak pie. All the the food was warm, fresh and delicious, also well presented. The actual restaurant itself is lovely and I will definitely return.

Went for afternoon tea with family and friends on Friday.Food selection was excellent and the staff were so friendly and helpful.It's an ideal gift for someone or even just a treat for yourself. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Party of 9 for dinner. Started with waiter advising that wine on menu was not available, then later found a case of it! One of party had scallops to start. Seriously looked like one scallop (over cooked) cut into 3! Cost nearly £12, When complained we were advised that this was the standard portion. If that is the case then the scallops are an absolute rip off. 4 portions of Bruschetta were tasteless. Cherry tomatoes and advocado and tough bread. 2 of the party had fajitas. Portions were very small. Cheescake for desert was slightly bigger than a fifty pence piece. To top it all the card machine to pay the bill would not connect. Had cash but how many people carry nearly £450 in cash. Food mediocre. Portions abysmal. Will not be back

Went to dalziel park for a pre-Christmas dinner drink. Lovely round of drinks great quality great service and good atmosphere. This will be a new Christmas tradition for us

I was a guest here last week. Parking easy, menu well composed. Service and food excellent. Staff friendly. A weird name but the best dining experience in the area. I would say 1 point though, change to better drinking straws.

My family has three vegans and we were very pleasantly surprised by the amazing vegan options. I had the broccoli and kael soup which was really good, followed by a spicy tofu, with cauliflower, beetroot, couscous- so full of flavour and great textures. Super yummy!

What a brilliant meal not only for me but for all the party especially the 3 vegans plus allergies to milk egg and peanuts, absolutely fantastic I have never seen such lively prepared dishes and also very tasty indeed not a lot of restaurants do great dinners but hats off to the restaurant at Dalziel park and the chefs and staff and a big thanks to Mr Garry Rae who spoke to us not only about the meal but about the up and coming wedding of 2 of the party tonight.Fantastic atmosphere and looked after , nothing was any trouble and if we asked about anything especially the allergies they were first class.Really delighted with the food ,if you are looking for a very good and tasty vegan meal and worried about allergies then this is the place to go.Would highly recommend.

My fiance and I went out with a meal with family. He has allergies to milk & egg and also most family members are vegan. The vegan meals provided on their menu were absolutely brilliant and would recommend people to try (even if you're not vegan). The portobello mushroom starter was soooooo good:)

Came here for dinner with my mum and brother and his fiancé and her mum to try the food before their wedding in February. We always worry about eating out due to my brother having severe allergies to milk, eggs and nuts, as well as me, my brother and mum being vegan. We were amazed at the vegan options on offer and were so impressed at the flavours that were put together. I had the portobello fries to start, and then spiced tofu which came with couscous, shredded carrot, mango, pomeganate, beetroot and a vegemite/soy sauce. It was amazing!!! Then we had the vegan chocolate and orange torte, which was sublime! After we had finished eating the executive head chef, Garry came out to speak with us and asked for suggestions and to hear our views on the food. We were so happy about our experience and the enthusiasm of staff, and would recommend it to all! Looking forward to dining with you again soon!

Food ok, service was so slow it wasn’t even funny 45 minutes for starters another half an hour for mains and then 25 for desserts, not to mention the delay in ordering dessert because the waitress managed to forget if we wanted to see the dessert menu and the twice forgotten drinks order, a party of 12 with 4 children two of whom are 5... not good enough

Went here for my works Xmas night out and our bosses retirement meal. We got great service from the staff and they were very friendly. The food was really nice and reasonably priced for the set menu.

The staff were really friendly and welcoming the room we got was very comfortable and clean .we had a 3 course dinner and they through in a bottle of wine .The only reason I am not giving 5stars is because I had eaten here before and the standard of food was exelent. I feel they have let their standards slip I was looking forward to real hand cut chips not frozen ones my girlfriend opted for the mushroom risotto as she had ordered this before and loved it .she got served up bland overcooked .It's a real shame as I have recommended this restaurant as fine dinning now it's about the same standard as a chain pub food at higher prices

Fantastic service from Alan and Lisa, always looked after like family great food with a fantastic setting esp at Xmas, great value for money, our family from reading were blown away by it, so much so they going to stay there on return. Regular family haunt for us.

Food and service fantastic as usual

I'm quite a regular to here it's one of my favourite restaurants. Unfortunately it just didn't hit the mark this time. The bread for 2 well i know it's just bread but was below average i haven't ever got the bread before from here but it's usually nicer anywhere else it was just plain crusty loaf and toast all cold and didn't seem very fresh we didn't eat much of it. My scallops starter not for the first time the scallops were far too small and only 3 if them hardly worth the price slightly overcooked too. My girlfriends starter of crispy duck wings were nice but were sticky and soggy not crispy at all. Then the chatuebriande forgive my spelling well i thought it was too tough it had lots of tough fat and was chewy then my girlfriend said it was perfect i tried a bit from the other side and it was perfect lol so it was a steak of two halves lol, the creamed corn and mozzarella salad are quite strange accompaniments I'd have prefered onion rings and mushrooms definitely missed having mushrooms with our steak. Deserts were spot on. Will i return yes, will i order scallops or the chatuebriande again probably not

My wife & I visited today for lunch to celebrate my 78th Birthday. The 3 course meal was faultless and the service good and friendly. I would recommend the Wild mushroom Risotto and the Fish & Chips. We will definitely be back again.

This place is on my doorstep so maybe I’m biased but maybe it’s just good food and good service. Saturday lunch for us family and friends having a good laugh and enjoying our company. There happened to be 2 weddings on at the same time . I hear you say the service must’ve been compromised? Not at all ! They obviously have a good system for getting the right amount of staff in for these events. The food is your typical steak pie or fish and chips affair but then they throw onto the menu pigeon or frogs legs just to mix it up . I’ve been so often I can’t tell how many times so that speaks for itself and the staff are always friendly. Thanks we will be going back.

We went on last Wednesday night on spec. no reservations, no problem, staff were so friendly and accommodating. I had prawns as starter followed by chicken. Others had steak pie. Presentation of all meals was 1st class matched by the food itself, there was no room for dessert except for one friend who had the Ice creams. Really excellent food, well presented and reasonably priced. Recommend to anyone to visit.

I visited on Saturday evening the 27thJuly this year with 3 relatives. The restaurant and the hotel were very busy but we were given a friendly and helpful greeting. The food was excellent and the service quick and friendly. This was our second visit as my wife and I had lunch previously which we enjoyed and said we would come again which we have done. Will definitely be back soon for my birthday lunch.

As a wedding professional we eat at many wedding venues. Over the years this has proved to be the best bar/bistro food we have ever had. The sticky toffee pudding is world class.

Paid for a party of 24 people, for a surprise, for my wifes birthday. And what a surprise we got. This was 3 weeks ago,and it has taken me this long to get over the shock. My food was actually quite good, but it does not make up for the poor service, we received. Booked a year in advance, there is absolutely no excuse. Wrong orders being delivered, and orders being taken, after other people had finished their meal, is totally unacceptable and also my family being treated as a joke. I told a manager i didnt see the funny side. We were offered a large discount,which was accepted but it DID NOT make up for, which for me was "probably" the worst ever dining experience i have ever had. I have rated this experience 1 only because i can't rate any lower.

I have been going to dalziel for lunch regularly with friends over a long period and was very dissappointed with my last three visits. Firstly I took three friends to lunch and after paying the bill, I was stopped on the way out to say I had been given the wrong bill, and paid the 30 pounds shortfall, the meal was nice so didn't really mind. On my next visit, a retirement lunch for two colleagues which 11 of us attended, and although the meal was lovely, they informed us they didn't have a knife to cut the cake in half and no wrapping for the 2 retirees to take it home. Lastly I went for lunch with a friend who had undergone major surgery, wanted to treat her. When the soup came it was lukewarm, and the meal was not up to its usual standard. The coleslaw was watery, there were black bits in my peas, the fish was very small with too much greasy batter, and my friends pasta had way too much sauce and came draped in far too much greenery. The staff are always helpful but seemed a bit harrassed even though they were not that busy. Very disappointed and don't know if I'd return even though it is handy. I have always sang their praises to all and don't relish the thought that people will go on my recommendation and be disappointed

10 of us had a lovely Sunday Lunch for a birthday occasion. Meals were great, staff very friendly. Will look forward to returning.

Been here a few times and always very good, first time I have done a review which is perhaps unfair hence I give 2 instead of one. The menu for a groupon voucher is a very basic menu not repeat not a reduction on the normal menu as available in many other establishments. Limited choice and quickly followed by very poor service despite the fact it was not really busy. Perhaps a groupon also means we don't really need to care about this customer .

It was my first visit to the restaurant last night for a work night out. There was a great selection of food and the service was exceptional. Holly our waitress was extremely helpful, pleasant and attentive. Our meals were lovely and the cocktails were fab. Would 100% recommend.

The food was lovely, the service was slow but they were extremely busy and couldn’t apologise enough. Sharon the manager pleasant and super friendly as always. The girl serving Mel is always smiling and happy.

We visited Dalziel Park today for lunch as it was a family birthday. As we approached the entrance door we were informed that the hotel was closed for refurbishment. The man who spoke to us said the details of this were on Social Media and online. I had checked online earlier today to get details of the menus and did not see any such information.

I booked a deal through itison. I dont know if its a case of get what you paid for?

Absolutely beautiful food . Decor/service more than glad i went throughly enjoyed this experience. 10/10 definitely b back .

Six of us booked for Christmas day 4.45pm. 5 adults and 1 child. We were in the outside area of the dining room. We had to ask the girl behind the bar where our table was as there wasn't anyone there to show us. Then ten minutes later we had to ask at the bar if someone could take our drinks order. The canapes were a bit poor and sparse but the starter was very good. Unfortunately four of us had the steak medallions and not one of us enjoyed it due to the fact it was cold and overcook. The waiter told us it would be pink so we were very surprised to find it Grey. The one who had Turkey got a piece of plastic in his meal. The chef gave us a bottle of wine as an apology. The best course of all was the dessert. We all loved what we had. I know people might say it was the wrong time to go but we always take the last sitting and the food is always Fantastic. Our bill was just short of 500 pounds so it's not unreasonable to expect the best. By the way the staff are exceptional at all times. It was just such a disappointing meal and we had such a long time to wait for the main course it should have been perfect.

Visited Dalziel Park for a birthday dinner for my wife.

Meal was amazing, had the salt and chilli monk fish. Amazing. Server BZ he was a english guy, great chat and took fabulous care of us and made sure everything up to our standards.

We went to the wedding Fayre and decided to have lunch.

Had a lovely lunch today with my Husband food was great I had carrot and coriander soup my husband had the haggis for mains I had roast beef he had club sandwich followed by sticky toffee pudding

Title says it all. Lovely breakfast, however service could have been better, wrong drinks given, wrong order brought to the table , tried to serve the toast long before the breakfast was served , and then had to wait ten minutes for the bill .

I often stay here on business, it is a great hotel with great staff, especially Jennifer( i think).The restaurant and bar are superb. Well thought out menu using local produce, cooked with great flair.

That being said before you read my disappointing review I would like to say that I have been here several times over the course of a few years and that this place is still very good in terms of food, service and atmosphere, and I would recommend it to others to try.

Dined here on an Itison deal. The meal was great value for money and the food was delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive.

We like a wee trip to dalziel park so when we saw it on itison we thought - ideal and bought 2 offers - now we are trying to decide who we dont like enough to give the other voucher to!!! To say the food was crap would be a compliment! Thats harsh - we had lovely starters but the main courses the lamb tagine with couscous would have been as well as being described as lamb with wood shavings- dry amd yuk yuk yuk - ihad the piri piri burger - im sure mcdonalds or kfc have mastered thAt just a wee bit better than dalziel park- so disappointing- DONT PUT OFFERS ON ITISON ETC IF YOU CANNY FOLLOW THROUGH!!!!

Had a lovely meal here at xmas for quality of food found prices were really reasonable. I only gave 4 stars as it is difficult to get to without a car so someone has to stay sober or spend a fortune on taxis. Excellent servers couldnt do enough for us even taking group pictures for us. Very grateful. Felt very relaxed and werent rushed out after meal like other places we've been too at xmas. Would definitely recommend a visit here

Popped into the bar quickly and unfortunately decided to have a meal. Should have known by the lack of other customers there has been no improvement here.

I love Dalziel Park, I have many fond memories of family dinner dances and I was also married there so this is a review from someone who is a long time fan of the venue. The food was delicious, everything ordered was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful, especially the desert. I do agree with others regarding the portion sizes being small however ive had worse in other restaurants. What let the meal down was the service, the waiting staff were polite but the service waiting time was awful. Its the first time in my life ive not left a tip (which is still annoying me by the way!) If they appeared rushed off their feet then I would be a bit more understanding but that didnt seem the case. Im hoping this was just a one off bad day as i really enjoyed the meal.

We overall had fun. The nights were quiet on our pitch and we did not get any noise when it was quiet time. We were initially put on pitch 84 which was horrible right next to big metal waste bins and where the road runs through. We tried to put our caravan over the mound but soon realised we would not be able to use our awning as it was a different level. We asked the man in the shed room who kindly didn’t mind us moving pitches so that was no trouble.

First of all they put fresh food on top of existing food that means the food at the bottom of the dish could be there all during the day and night who knows how fresh it is ? Also I found the staff unfriendly and you dare not leave any food on your plate they are not happy I thought that the concept of a buffet was to try different things and if you like them fine if not we’ll you wouldn’t pick them again

We visited for sunday lunch and having eaten here, angels and the Parkville many times, i was a little disappointed. Offering a two or three course lunch, one of us had artisan bread to start and the roast pork which was really nice. I ordered the roast sirloin which was ok but quite fatty, it wasnt very hot and the gravy was like water with no taste whatsoever. We decided to share a dessert and couldnt believe that the sticky toffee pudding had been halved and turned on its side and served with the tiniest ball of ice cream. The sponge was brick hard and no amount of toffee sauce could disguise it. Expect better from a reputable establishment.

Had a family meal and we waited one and a half hours to get starters the children had finished their meal before the adults got starters. I am a frequent visitor to the restaurant but have noticed the size of the meals getting smaller but the prizes are rising. The chips were disgusting hard and watery.

Party of 23 tonight for meal chips served were disgusting my family are frequently at this restaurant will not be back chips are frozen and are more like wedges probably bought from farm foods what a let down

We booked as a party of 4 on Sat 7th July or the bistro. Although there was a wedding on and it was busy our service was excellent. The menu was extensive and the portions were perfect. The 2 ladies had the macaroni cheese and it was one of the nicest I’ve had. The 2 men had a chicken dish which they both enjoyed. The ladies also had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream which was delicious. Our waitress took time to speak to us although it was busy. Everyone enjoyed the meal and we will definitely be back.

Being married to a fantastic cook, I very seldom go out for a meal but I do like a break from the dishes, so when a family dinner was proposed, having heard good reports about the Big Mouth Frog restaurant I booked a table. The restaurant is through to the rear of the Dalziel Park Hotel, overlooking the golf course. We were well received and escorted to our table and refreshments were served right away, while we had plenty of time to examine the menu and choose our separate meals. The service was efficient, with plenty of time between courses, from starter, to main then sweet, we were spoiled by the taste and quality, with plenty of variety and prices to suit most budgets and also the size of portions to the preference of each person. We enjoyed the conversation, not interrupted by loud music or a television ,the staff were attentive but not intrusive, this is not a fast food outlet . A great experience all round, that didn't break the bank. Next time, a romatic dinner, just for two.

Amazing ! I have been here on a couple of occasions once for dinner & another for breakfast. Apart from the great food the staff are lovely & always seem genuinely glad to work there.

Went for a meal to celebrate my parents anniversary. Restaurant was very busy so the service wasn’t great . My chicken fajitas were tasteless I make better myself. My kids chips were still hard inside. My mum had the cheesecake which I take was a reconstructed one it did give us a laugh though it was find the base ? Lol it looked like a digestive triangle under some cream . Cold drinks are very expensive as well. A lot of money spent on food I could have cooked better myself sorry but won’t be returning.
