The White Swan Hotel and STONEAGED Restaurant in Stratford-on-Avon

We were not from the area, and we arranged for a night at a local cottage nearby. We did our research as this was a Christmas night out for work. We liked the look of the white swan restaurant and therefore booked this. About a month before we were due to come. I had a reminder about the booking a few days ago and confirmed we would be still be attending. However the Christmas light switch on was that night and when we arrived at the bar. The bar was heaving and we were confused to where the restaurant was as there was no one else eating. And there just seemed to be people drinking everywhere. We spoke to the manager and he said that there was no booking for us and he said you can try and find a table and we can see if we can try and do some food? I have two lots of confirmation. Confirming our booking. Either the pub was greedy and because of all the people drinking and maybe ours was the Only reservation they decided to just say they weren’t doing food! Or they decided before hand they weren’t doing food, but did not communicate this to us. However why get me to confirm a few days ago! The manager tried to blag us and say he only took over management 2 weeks ago! If that’s the case you need to look at your booking system as I was confirmed not once but twice. However we were really disappointed as this was our Christmas night out but felt like the manager didn’t care about this as the pub was so busy with drinkers . The local pub called the nags head fortunately was able to accommodate us. And they were also surprised with the lack of communication we had. So big shout out to the nags head for feeding our belly’s. So if you do book at the white swan just be mindful if there is an event on you might be cancelled with no warning as they care more about the profits than basic customer service.

Went for Sunday lunch and was a big disappointment. Only one guy running the bar and waiting tables so he was way overworked though doing his best, and this meant we were slow to be served. Two choices of roast, no vegetarian option, so my friend went for the veggie lasagna, which was unavailable. So the only option was a pretty bleak vegan burger. And the place was cold.

Nice hotel/pub in the centre of Henley with ample free parking. Friendly and welcoming lady at check in who showed me to my room and explained the layout of this quirky old building. Music in the bar on my first night which was free with versatile and experienced musicians. Karaoke on my second night which I passed on! Food was of middling quality and only one cask beer on offer but plenty of choice around Henley for both beer and food if you venture out. Overall a great place to stay that is near the railway station if you want to visit Stratford or Birmingham.

When here for a meal, been here before some time ago was so disappointed this time, with whole experience. Limited choice of beers available when visited. Ordered food which took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive. 3 out of 4 meals were OK but the caesar salard was just salard with a bit of chicken in it. All meals were over priced for the standard of the food and service

Beautiful building, wonderful staff and atmosphere! The floors are slightly uneven, which is to be expected for the age of the building but definitely fun once you've left the bar

Stopped here last Sunday night after a party, excellent service, nice clean room with character. Food was excellent.

Good value stay in historic location. Nice food.

I checked into the hotel today 4/4/2024, the bar staff were not attentive to check me in and I had to say “excuse me… can I check in?” Check in was easy and room fine. We went downstairs to potentially check in for dinner but the restaurant was closed for a private event, not something I was aware of last night when I booked in but that’s fine. We went elsewhere for dinner and on returning to the hotel at around 9 went to the bar. After standing waving my arms (literally to get attention) finally the server (who was doing nothing) bothered to ask us if we wanted something. I asked for a cocktail menu to be told “we don’t serve cocktails”. With dissatisfaction and disgust we left and went across the road to the Nags Head”. Great service and a warm welcome. Fingers crossed breakfast is better.

Visit 1: Fantastic meal here. We had the fillet and chateaubriand on the hotstone and a pizza. The meat was perfect. You can choose a range of sauces and butters with them as well as chips and other sides. Puddings were also ace. Service fantastic. We would definitely come here again when back in the area. Its possibly even a destination restaurant to make a special journey. Boom. Visit 2: we decided to stay at the hotel and eat at the restaurant prior to an NEC visit. The food is just as good as previously, although the hotel room lacked some additions i.e. a wardrobe. I think the room could have been better appointed with a headboard on the bed, a nicer carpet and furniture that was more in keeping with a hotel room for paying guests rather than your nan's spare room. However, the room was clean and the bathroom was modern. There were some issues with the central heating pressure during our stay and we had no heating in the evening or morning which wasn't great for a cold March weekend. The staff however were really lovely and when they knew what we needed, they did their utmost to provide it.

Lovely atmosphere and top notch food.Staff friendly and professional. Highly recommend this restaurant. Steak was tender as plentiful. Definitely, will be back!

Stopped over 1 night. Breakfast next morning took 40 minutes to arrive it wasn't worth waiting for, the bacon was extremely salty, seems as if food was kept warm. Not impressed
