The White Lion in Coventry

We recently held my father-in-law's wake at The White Lion. The staff were exceptionally attentive and friendly to all our guests. The buffet was well-received, offering great quality food. As a coeliac, I was particularly impressed with how they catered to my dietary needs, ensuring my food was served separately from everyone else's. We would definitely recommend The white Lion.

Another wonderful meal. Consistantly great food and drink and fabulous service from Loz who waited on us hand and foot. Can't wait to be back again.

From start the finish the service was exceptional, tori greeted me as soon i walked through the door with a massive smile, george served me a really nice pint of pepsi and shannon brought me my beef brisket sandwich, and my god, where do i start with that sandwich, is was absolutelty amazing, tasted fantastic and the chips were incredible, piping hot just how i like them. Would highly reccomend this venue, absolutely amazing!

Had a birthday meal with my partner. She enjoyed her pork belly fillet, and I had probably the best ribeye steak I have ever eaten, superbly cooked with a killer sauce, fabulous chips and classy veg side, washed down with the relatively unusual but great Inch's cider. Great friendly service and great surroundings. I remember this old pub , it was OK back in the day but the upgrade probably saved one of Coventry's best loved pubs. Well done!!

We went as a family on Easter Sunday. Most of us had a Sunday lunch, which was excellent! One had the fish & chips and she said it was one of the best she’d had for a long time (and she’s had a few!). It wasn’t as busy as we’d expected, but the service was excellent from the friendly staff. All round a great experience!

Another lovely meal and evening at The White Lion. I had the crab cake to start, and my wife had the pate. Both were excellent. Then for mains, I had the signature burger, which was one of the tastiest burgers I've had in a long time, and my wife had the fish and chips, which was a large portion and also very tasty. For dessert, I had the crumble, and my wife had the ice cream. Both were excellent. And I have to mention our waitress Loz, who has served us before on previous visits, and as always, she looked after us fantastically well all evening. Loz is always very friendly and is always very helpful. Thanks Loz.

Very good if a little expensive

Went with the misses for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Was served by Jamie who was plesent and attentive. Had the fillet steaks what where cooked to perfection and when asked who cooked them was told it was a chef called Jack. Well done to the chef aswell.

We popped in around 12, on the off chance that we would be able to get a table for 2, they did. We found the staff very warm and welcoming, we did have to wait a while for our food to come, but when it did it was delicious 😋 The only thing that just needed attention to detail was the flowers on each table were dead and all over the table

Was sitting in garden and saw a rat running across paved patio area so decided against having a drink and left.

Chloe was our server and she was fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble and she was so patient and good humoured while we asked her questions about the food and allergies etc. We also met a few other members of the team who were also very friendly. They work so hard but all we saw were smiles. Our starters were lovely and desserts were delicious, the chocolate trio was heavenly. There were a few things with the roasts that were a little disappointing. The beef (part of the meat trio) was really dry and chewy and some of the veg was cold. The turkey, pork and the rest of the trimmings however were really nice. We also ordered sides of Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese and onion rings which were all great. Atmosphere was really nice (Mother's Day) and the tables are well spaced out so you don't feel like you're sitting in top of each other. A good honest pub serving good food with a smile 😀

It's always an enjoyable evening at the White Lion. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. The food is always delicious. The atmosphere is always relaxing despite it being busy.

This has become a new favourite of ours, we often use vouchers which offer up to 40% off so the price is very reasonable. Staff ( Beth 😃) are lovely and friendly and the food is amazing. Would recommend.

Went there for a birthday meal, most dishes were fine, but the pork belly that I ordered was as tough as an old boot. Normally would have returned it, but didn't want to ruin the atmosphere. Shame, as it's a lovely pub and the staff are generally excellent

A lovely night and beautiful food and attentive waiting staff. Unfortunately, they lost a star (would have been only half if I was able to do that) as the skin was so hard it was inedible, which was a shame as the meal was delicious.

Came for a family birthday lunch. Sat in the bar. Service was very slow (as it always has been over the years) Food arrived - tasty but barely warm. Missing feta from the feta salad (pretty sure they just tried to get away with it as when we raised it, they had ran out!) Portion sizes not great - but dictated by the chain no doubt. Makes it expensive for what it is. Staff were very friendly but that’s not enough to make me want to come back any time soon. Shame..a lovely pub but entirely average!

Most helpful and welcoming staff and a lovely well thought out menu. Very helpful lady helped to sort out our last minute request and seat us and Josh was a delight as a server. Food was delicious- props to the kitchen team.

Overall the lunch was very good, my husband and I both had the signature burger, they were both lovely, one of our friends had the fish and chips and he said it was excellent, our other friend had the chicken shewer and enjoyed it but did say that wished that you didn't pre salt the chips. The drinks were very expensive, £ 3.30 for a small bottle of sparkling water, come on. Overall we do find the waiting time for the food is quite long.

My server on my most recent visit was this charming girl - Honey , she made the evening much more pleasant, catering to our table and answering any concerns we had, such a kind soul and a pleasure to have in the pubs staff ! I’ve dined at The White Lion several times and have never been disappointed – it’s truly a must-visit destination with the family or for a meal with friends !

Stopped by whilst on a dog-walk in the area and this place really delivered in every aspect - they even had a bowl of water for my pup! I was served by Honey and I must say, what a respectful and polite girl she is. We chatted whilst I ordered and she provided such friendly and efficient service. The food was beautiful and the pub interior is really well furnished - I was sat by the fireplace which is a lovely touch! Many thanks to all the staff at the White Lion - but I must say that Honey is an excellent asset to your company!

Just popped out for a couple of mains, the food is excellent, I had the Sea Bass fillets, and with 40% off midweek, it makes for a nice break during the working week going out. Friendly service, very busy, so had to go to the bar to pay, but overall, a nice dining experience, and only 1 mile down the road 👍

Great evening, relaxed dinner not rushed in & out which makes a change these days! Food was delicious & not overly expensive.

Couldn't find our booking when we arrived was then made to sit at a table out the way of everyone else,pub was freezing. Took ages to be acknowledged by staff,food was slow to come out when it did it was luke warm. Felt like we were just sat out the way and forgotten about

Lovely atmospheric public house with a traditional setting. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere provides you with a relaxing pub to go to. There is no loud and bumping music and the food is well prepared and presented.

Had booked a table for three for two adults and our young daughter on the morning of our visit. Upon arriving at the pub at 4:30, it was busy which is nice to see and we were seated. Our drinks order was taken and then the waiter came back to inform us that they had ran out of turkey, beef and the trio roast dinners. We were disappointed as we were looking forward to a lovely roast dinner. On top of that, we were also informed that there were no children’s meals left! I mean that is simply ridiculous, it is a time where families with children are taken out for a meal, but there wasn’t any left! We also over heard one of the waitress’s apologize to a table that it had already been a long wait for them. At that point we thought that was enough for us. We cancelled the drinks order and get ready to leave. I found it completely unfair that we had a booking and was failed to be informed that one, there are options on the menu that have run out. And two, that there are no children’s meals left, AFTER you have seated the customers AND taken their drinks order! We then had to find elsewhere at short notice to feed our little girl, to me this is unacceptable. What should have happened was the member of staff that seats the customer, should have one, made them aware that there are options missing on the Sunday roast menu and children’s menu and two, that there is a very long wait for food. We understand that these things happen but it’s the way it was managed that is unacceptable.

Our third visit since the renovation a couple of years ago, the first time we went the food was really lovely and fresh as expected and the service was great. The second visit we had a Sunday dinner after hearing great things and were really disappointed with the food quality, the staff weren't really equipped in dealing with the concerns raised and seemed overwhelmed. We decided to give it another go tonight and unfortunately it was disappointing again. On arrival there were two members of staff that looked overran and stressed, took a while to be seated. A number of things on the menu not available, when the food arrived all but the fries were luke warm at best. The Charcuterie pizza had one Italian ham on a Margherita base so better being renamed, the accompaniments of the lamb kebab were not as described and not fresh at all. The Belgian fries were nice and hot. One item not as described, a garlic flatbread, we queried and the member of staff said the flatbread is already cut up and just warmed up by the kitchen, didn't seem sure about anything. She did bring out a tortilla wrap instead, straight from the fridge. Waited a long time for the table to be cleared, we didn't have an opportunity to raise the concerns as the table behind us were clearly dissatisfied and staff were dealing with that. Such a nice pub, with lots of local support, so it's a shame the dining experience has been poor on 2/3 occasions. Unlikely to return after tonight.

I booked a large table last minute and they were kind enough to accommodate us even when we arrived early. We received excellent service from Chloe who went above and beyond. We were a large table but our drinks and food were all served at the same time which was great. Lovely welcoming atmosphere and I would definitely recommend.

We visited just after the new year after a hectic Christmas! We felt relaxed throughout the visit, and the food was fantastic... Myself & the wife both ordered the Fish & Chips and we're looked after by Los. The fires were roaring , it was super cozy! All round, great visit, just wish it was closer to home!

Always have a great time here, especially when Loz is working. She goes out of her way to make sure we have the best experience and always remembers us and asks how we are. She really makes this place stand out!

Had a lovely lasagne with chips, really good bargain on the lunchtime deal too. Shout out to the smiley and friendly Shannon who really made our evening. x

We visited on New Year's eve. The team were short staffed but still did an incredible job looking after us and our little girl. Special mention to Shannon she ensured we had everything we needed. Food delicious and the singer was great.

We had a Christmas meal with friends at The White Lion in the run-up to Christmas, and it was absolutely wonderful. The pub is just bursting with charm, and it felt so special to be there during the festive season. The open fires, tasteful Christmas decorations, and cozy low ceilings really set the scene, creating that perfect, warm Christmas atmosphere that you just can’t fake. For me, it was also a bit of a trip down memory lane, as I used to work here 25 years ago. Walking through the doors brought back so many fond memories, and it’s lovely to see how the pub has kept its character while still feeling fresh and welcoming. The food was fantastic—well-cooked, hearty, and exactly what you want from a Christmas meal with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the experience and making sure everything ran smoothly. The only slight downside was the parking. The car park is quite tight, so we decided to park down the road to avoid any dinks—definitely worth it to keep the car safe! All in all, it was a great evening in a pub that clearly knows how to do Christmas right. Whether you’re there for the nostalgia, the food, or just to soak up the atmosphere, The White Lion is a brilliant spot for a festive gathering. I’ll definitely be back again—hopefully a bit sooner than 25 years this time!

Brilliant service until 9pm. Staff seemed to change. More interested in chatting in the corner and putting on lip gloss along with gushing over the singer of the night and her empty plate 🙄. Messed my order up for an Irish coffee twice and tried to call me a liar. Sad end to the night tbh.

Really disappointing experience. We arrived at 7:30 for our booking to be told that last food orders were 7:45 due to a shortage of staff. We were then rushed through our meal, including being made to pay while we were still eating our pudding. I chatted to a team member about contacting us if this was going to be the case. We probably would have cancelled. The staff member was rude and defensive. You were happy to take our money but didn’t provide a service anywhere near acceptable. We won’t be returning!

We booked this place for about Christmas Meal and got some good recommendations but the staff were incredibly rude and they didn't seem to care whether we were there or not. They were also unhelpful when we asked questions and our table wasn't even ready properly. The food then took so long to come and when it did, it was different to how it was described on the menu and didn't taste great. The meat was dry, the mash didn't taste cooked and the sauce was way too sweet. None of the food tasted good together and there was no flavour. The atmosphere was okay, the fireplace was pretty and cosy so I think if the food and service was better, it could've been a nice place.

The food is terrible. We all got two or three courses from the festive menu. All of my vegetables were overcooked or burnt. The roast potatoes were so tough to eat!! I had a parsnip that was completely black. I don't really understand how they could see that on the plate and think it was okay to serve it. I didn't say anything to the servers but they will have seen it was the only thing on the plate when they cleared the table. I don't believe in food waste but I can't eat something burnt. The servers were very nice. The host stand was empty for a while so I asked at the bar and they just told us to wait at the host stand. We still waited about 5 minutes after that. The food took a very long time to come out, after the starters. I think overall, for the price of the meals, this place was definitely not worth it.

Great food and service. Staff were awesome and very polite. Ambience and atmosphere was brilliant. Great selection of beers on draught. Food - beef brisket sandwich and Moroccan chicken skewer were exceptionally tasty. Lovely warm interior with open fireplaces. Highly recommended.

Went for a meal with my family for the Christmas light turned on, the food was perfection - our waitress Beth was so friendly and helpful, she couldn't do enough for us! The evenings events were so good and festive, we will definitely be returning!

This is now one of my favourite pubs. The food is excellent and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Complimentary drink at the end of the meal was a pleasant surprise. Thank you, and see you again soon.

The meal sizes are not what they used to be as I've eaten here many times over the years. In fact, the child's portion was bigger than my adult portion, and we both had the turkey roast. Service was slow, the plate was hot, but the food was not, and they missed 3 items off our order.

Visited on Saturday, what a wonderful warm, cosy, welcoming pub recommended by Olive and Rose(bridal shop). Food was excellent, quick service too. Would recommend 100%

We arrived at 4pm our table was not ready. We waited in the bar but the only free seats were around a table filled with dirty pots, which must have been there fore sometime as the family previously sitting there were shown to a table in the restaurant. It look until 17.15 for us to receive our starters for our 4pm booking. Some of the meals were substandard, and were removed from the bill. What is upsetting is that this is our local pub that has recently been refurbished and it looks lovely inside and out, however it is poorly managed, understaffed and now a place that non of the family wish to revisit. The kitchen are unable to consistently deliver meals, so it's pot luck how it will come out one visit to the next. The food was amazing opening week, after that the quality and consistency has plummeted. We really wanted the pub to be successful and supported it as long as we could. There are some lovely waiting staff, but also lots have left or are leaving as they are fed up of dealing with the complaints.

We popped in for a week night dinner to catch up with friends. Excellent service from josh and excellent tasting food. Skight problem was the restaurant smelt musty, possibly an issue with the drainage with it being old

Chloe was excellent who served us tonight, we’d had bad start to the night after a really poorly ran Bonfire Display at the Bull Butcher, where is was stupidly busy, and we left early. But when we arrived at the White Lion, Chloe and the food were excellent! Thanks for salvaging our night with two little disappointed boys!

We came here for an evening meal following appalling service at another venue that we were staying at. Although we booked at such a late time and had extra people in our party josh couldn’t have been more accommodating and kind constantly making sure we were ok. Thought it was a nice special touch the chef helping to bring some of the puddings out. Food really really nice and nice atmosphere on this restaurant. If ever back in Coventry we will come again and will recommend to friend. Thank you for your help and making our trip a good one!

Well where to start. We were excited to come and experience the updated decor etc. We decided to book with it being our 23rd wedding anniversary my meal was nice but don't know why had freeeziing cold apple sorbet with my meal. My husband's pie which was chicken was awful chicken was hard and chewy. We also had to wait nearly an hour to get our meals with no warning there was delays.

Went on a Friday evening, the pub was quite busy. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. Sadly the food was cold when finally served after a mammoth hour long wait. In fact the replacement meal was barely edible. The mushy peas for the fish and chips were replaced three times and still never got even slightly warm. A real shame that my meal was so spoiled as previously I had really enjoyed my time in the pub.

There seems to be a standard "We have a 40 minute for food" message from staff, which is actually over 1hour. This was not just our table,as we knew other people in the restaurant.

The venue was lovely, the table we were given was in a lovely spot by the fireplace. Food was fabulous, including food presentation. Everyone was very helpful and super polite. There was a little waiting time but it was very busy! We had a lovely lunch. I highly recommend this place and we will definitely return. Thank you!

We had the room at the side of the restaurant for my daughter’s 30 th birthday. The staff , especially Bailey, were fantastic. The buffet was absolutely delicious, so much food and so much verity. Definitely recommend for a small private function.

We popped in for a drink and snack on a Friday night and it was surprisingly quiet. The restaurant area was ok but the rest of the pub all but deserted. The pub’s fixtures and fitting are a level above, the seats super comfy and decor smart. It was, and has been on previous visits in the cooler months, somewhat drafty. The service was ok but for a country pub, the selection of real ales was limited to only 2. We choose three of the bar snacks for £10. They were delicious and very good value although took a while to come. It should be a five star pub but I can’t quite put my finger on what was missing. That said, if it was five stars all round, getting a seat on a Friday night maybe somewhat more difficult!

We attended on 26th September for a nice evening meal. We were not disappointed in anyway. Perfect in everyway. A lovely nice country pub with the atmosphere to match. We were served by Chloe who made us feel comfortable and very relaxed. She knew the menus, very knowledgeable and has a good sense of humour. When the food arrived it was beautiful, the steak was cooked to perfection and the double chocolate brownie....wow. Thank you all for a very pleasant night and we look forward to our return..Thanks again.
