Fantastic evening at the White Horse. A large group of Mums with a need for a forever growing table, the staff couldn’t have been any more helpful and welcoming, which isn’t always the case when there’s a big group. Fantastic food and drink choices - couldn’t fault. We will be back !!

The service was excellent, I really cannot fault it. However, the value for money is really lacking here. £24 for a piece of Chalk Stream Trout cooked very basically, with 5 potatoes, 2 pieces of broccoli and a spoonful of wilted greens. All of which was swimming in a pool of butter. I really don’t mind paying for good food, but this was so eyewateringly overpriced for such a mediocre dish, I really cannot see past it. The Chocolate Tart was wonderful. £6.70 for a pint of Tribute though? Again, difficult to see beyond the price and the obvious lack of attention to value for money. It’s Tribute, a decent ale found in pubs across the country, but certainly not a £6.70 beer. Please spare me the ‘it’s in line with stock and market costs’. It isn’t, it’s a regular pint but the whopping price tag unfortunately leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

We visited on Tuesday and had two coffees, two baguettes and a VERY small portion of chips, and the bill came to a few pence short of £44, which I thought was extremely expensive. . On checking my receipt later, I noted that there was a £4.86 charge, called a “discretionary service charge”. Having not been given the option to chose whether or not to pay this, I would say it was a “compulsory” charge, NOT discretionary in any way. All in all, left a bad taste. We will not be returning as I feel I was basically ripped off.

My friends and I decided to meet for drinks at the White Horse in Otterbourne having seen on their website that on Saturdays from midday until 6pm, they offer 2 cocktails for the price of 1. The actual wording reads as follows: “Saturdays may be our favourite day of the week with BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH from 10pm – 4pm, where you can enjoy any dish from our menu with 90 minutes of bottomless Prosecco, House Wine or Aperol Spritz for an additional £25. And the fun doesn’t stop there – keep the good times rolling with our incredible 2-4-1 COCKTAILS from midday until 6pm!” However, on arriving at the pub, what we were actually offered was 2 of the same cocktail for £14 from a much reduced (and uninspiring) list. Worst still, when the bar staff were made aware of the website promotion (which I showed them on my iPhone) they refused to honour it. The charmless way in which our query was handled, coupled with an obvious lack of the business acumen required within the hospitality industry, meant that we didn’t order any further drinks and moved onto a different pub.

Haven't been for many year's. Wish I'd spent my money on a restaurant than a pub meal. With the cost of it! They automatically put on a service charge now too. But we are to let them know if we want it taken off. Which is awkward. Always give a tip for good service. But wasn't aware I automatically hadt to tip ALL staff. Only seen this for large groups. In Restaurants not a pub. No matter how nice the food is.

I ride past this pub on the bus and had the opportunity to pop in last Saturday for a pint, it was a warm day, I had a pint of Asahi Japanese beer, seems a little pricey, but respect it is a rural pub. A pretty poor selection of drinks, and had to settle for a warm Inch's pint of cider as that's all they had cider wise. £16 for 2 pints and a kids drink, so pretty steep in my opinion. The beer garden had only one table free which had been cleared of previous customers empty drinks, despite the place having plenty of staff. To top it off I received a passive aggressive telling off for going back out to the beer garden via seemingly the wrong exit despite there actually being no one in the restaurant eating food and it being an open door to the garden area, so not sure what the issue was as its the direct route out. If its an issue, close/barrier it off. Found the staff to be quite rude in general. We won't be returning which is a shame as the pub is in a good location for us livng locally.

Friendly staff, roast dinners served on cold plates and not particularly warm. Only one slice of beef cut into two pieces. Cauliflower cheese was mostly raw. Side dishes arrived slowly after the main plates arrived. Crispy asian chicken salad ( a small portion for £18 ! ) was just warm shredded chicken on a dry coleslaw base with a small drizzle of a lime mayo and a few micro coriander leaves and nigella seeds. I was expecting the chicken to be crispy as advertised on the menu.

For starter two small slices of sourdough toast, some truffle butter and olive tapenade was £9. For main, we had a satay chicken burger which was dry and a pea risotto which was tepid at best. This set the tone for lunch: friendly clientele; friendly staff; prompt service; very quick turn round on food; delicious food; accompanied by lovely drinks, Flower Pots Perridge in my case. Would recommend a visit, but check what's on and consider booking to avoid being disappointed. They have a good sized car park to the rear as well as spaces out front. Starting with the positives: Lovely atmosphere, with a little gift shop and other lovely locally produced items to buy around the pub. The staff were young but helpful. The children's menu was reasonably priced (£7 for a main course) and a good portion size. Our daughter really enjoyed it. The courgette fritters were delicious but a small portion, seemed like a large starter for £17. The children's menu option was bigger! This could easily be rectified by adding some rice or quinoa with it. The 'crispy' chicken salad was not crispy, instead the chicken was shredded throughout and my partner said he did not really enjoy it. Also £17. Seemed expensive for what it is but if you sign up to their app you get 10% off which helps. A meal for 2 adults and 1 child came to £60 including a top

We had a good dinner experience here a couple of months ago, but that was topped by a great lunch/brunch today! The service was great, attentive but not intrusive…even nailing that end of meal time when you don’t know when you’ll catch someone’s eye to get the bill - everything from being seated on the beautiful dining patio, to prompt ordering and delivery of food was excellent. And that’s not the best bit…this place has the best pub menu I’ve perhaps ever seen if you like a broad selection of gastro options (and more veggie options than I’ve seen in a pub before…but I’m not a veggie). I love a pie and chips, but when I take my wife out to lunch we like to have something different and perhaps even healthy…it’s usually slim pickings for such options but not here! I had a delicious smoked trout brunch and my wife had a confit duck poke bowl, both absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. There’s also plenty of options for varying family dynamics including a semi separate kids play structure and beer garden style area. This is fast becoming my favourite place to eat in Hampshire…and it’s very close to home. Well done and thank you White Horse Otterbourne!

Always a huge queue in the mornings - with only two members of staff behind the counter! (With both having to make the drinks to keep up which means a slow moving queue). Small independent business I could understand - but a big chain like this? Could easily have a couple more on to serve & make the coffee quicker. Shame because we really enjoy coming here and a big fan of Nero usually.

SO DAMN UNHAPPY DOGS ARE NOW ALLOWED IN. CHANGE THIS RULE YOUR LETTING DOGS sit on the chairs where humans and children sit this should not be allowed because owners do NOT WIPE THE DOGS anus after they pass stools with tissue so reminants of dogs Pooh will be on the costa coffee chairs. Unhygienic. Plus the dog hairs that will now fly around in the atmosphere could land in peoples hot drinks. This is a DIGUSTING ALL ROUND CONCEPT AND NEEDS TO BE DISCONTINUED AS FAST AS IT WAS APPROVED!!!!!!!!! Out of order. I have children that also has asthma and cannot be around pets. This is a very unhygienic and STUPID ALLOWANCE! Get it CHANGED!!!

We had a very successful family gathering in the Watercress Room. The staff came up with everything we asked for and thought ahead for us. Guests commented on what a nice place it was.
