We didn't stay but popped in for lunch. It took around 15 minutes to get any service even though the place was almost empty. When we eventually ordered, the server struggled to understand us as English wasn't their first language. The result was the wrong drinks were served which the the bar manager refused to change, as they had already been poured. Not a great response for a high end hotel. Food was good but we were overcharged as we ordered from the 2 or 3 course menu but were charged for each individual dish which we only spotted after getting home. Several days after raising this with Hotel du Vin still no response to my email which is disappointing.

UPDATE 14 Apr 2025: I finally stayed one night, The service and attitude of the hotel staff were good. HOWEVER, the hotel is poorly maintained, there was water dripping from my room (villa maria) ceiling all night which seriously disturbed my sleep ! there was heavy rain during the day so I guess it's water leaking from the roof. I wish it's not toilet water otherwise.... I have sent mutiple emails to theteam@hotelduvin.com about my booking at Hotel du Vin & Bistro Winchester, nobody from your hotel bother to give me any reply ! I doubt what sort of customer service can I expect during my stay ?

Just spent 2 nights at this hotel for our anniversary. Can't fault the friendliness of the staff, they were all very helpful and pleasant. The location is brilliant - easy walking distance to everything we wanted. It was great just to park up the car and not have to think about it again. Beautiful courtyard, nice bar area - the bar manager mixes a mean cocktail and is a lovely man to boot. Only had breakfast on one of the mornings. Absolutely nothing wrong with the choice or quality but slightly overpriced for what you get. The rooms! Very clean. The size was fine for us. The bed very comfortable. Water in the shower nice and hot. Unfortunately overlooked the office block next door and the car park so was a bit noisy during the day and first thing in the morning. But OK at night. The only drawback was the heating - woke up the first night unable to breathe as it was so hot. The windows won't open at all. Trying to sort out the heating/ac control pad at silly o'clock in the morning was quite challenging with no written instructions and lots of buttons. The second night was more comfortable as we had sussed it out by then. I don't like not being able to open a window, even a crack, though. Would definitely stay here again but would check which room we are in first and sort out the temperature on arrival🙂

We went here for lunch so I can’t say anything about the rooms. The food was great and very good value. Service and ambience excellent.

Recent trip here for our work staff christmas private function. We had a delightful 3 course meal with champagne on arrival and mince pies to close the night. Lovely room (Lombard) with a large table so seated our staff team with ease. Superb food.

Not the experience I expected or paid for (£££). The experience started having to wait 10 mins in reception to drop bags off, they were dealing with the car barrier (?) When we returned later in the afternoon we had the same issue of waiting. The bathroom smelt awful and the service during our evening meal wasn't great. We ordered, including a pre-meal cocktail and a glass of wine to accompany the starter, all turned up at the same time which defeated the object. Expensive and more Fawlty Towers than what I usually expect from HdV.

8 of us decided to book lunch at the hotel, we decided to have a pre- lunch drink in the hotel bar which was fairly busy with only one person serving, it took a full 20 minutes wait at the bar to even be acknowledged let alone served, once we had our drinks we made our way to the restaurant, we had pre-ordered the tasting menu, firstly we ordered our wine which took an absolute age and when it did arrive the waiter couldn't get the Cork out so took it away, returning with the open bottle of warm white wine and an ice bucket. One of our 8 ordered his meal off the menu this was served to him 15 minutes before the other plates were served, infact he finished it before the rest of the plates arrived. The food was generally pretty good, part of the tasting menu was cheese plate with Port, hence to say cheese arrived but no port until we eventually caught the attention of a member of staff to get the port. General problem massive lack of staff for what was a busy service, food pretty good, service terrible, if your looking for service and quality I suggest the Chesil Rectory restaurant it's the real deal.

Our afternoon tea was disappointing & over priced. The tarte tartin was delicious & the "different" profiteroles were good, if a bit tricky to eat with the ice cream melting. Otherwise the food was not of the standard I would have expected.

Extremely poor customer service. A friend had their birthday here, a pre booked dinner @ £45 /head. Myself and my wife had a sickness bug and didn't want to pass it on to other guests so had to cancel. We gave HDV 3 days notice and asked if we could get a refund. They said no as the chef had started prepping already and the food had been bought (hmmm). I get that they shouldn't lose out for our cancellation (even if we did give them ample warning), but they kept the full £90 (actually £99 with pre paid tip!). No offer of half the amount , or just taking the actual food cost , a voucher for a drink , anything . It's blatant money grabbing, but as they say , 1 annoyed customer tells 10 about a bad experience etc. - so pretty short sighted on their part .

We visited for a meal with a party of about 15. We had pre ordered but there were problems with the food coming out, due to staff absence as we were told and information falling through the cracks. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. The food was good, especially the steak. Overall a positive experience.

First time at the hotel for lunch with my family after our daughter got married. Lovely hotel, but when ordering food I do as I would at home expect it not over cooked. Our lovely waitress did offer some more half way through the meal, but the point is it should be right in the first time.

This was my second time to stay in the hotel du vin winchester and it did not disapoint on my return. The location is excellent and within minutes walk to the main street where there's great bars and restaurants We had drinks in the courtyard after dinner which is just so beautiful and romantic. The lady working in the bar was warm and welcoming. There was lots of options for breakfast and the host was friendly and accommodating I look forward to returning to this hotel in the future.

I stayed overnight at Hotel Du Vin winchester recently after staying in their Bristol branch. Everything was perfect and I had no complaints whatsoever. Best nights sleep in ages, and the food was excellent. Lea who served us for dinner was wonderful.

We have stayed in the Bristol location of this hotel chain twice and really enjoyed our experience so we decided to book the same chain for a visit to Winchester. Unfortunately we didn’t have the same positive experience during our stay. The hotel is on quite a busy road near the centre of town, it’s very central but it’s quite a noisy road and the windows are quite old. We did ask if any rooms away from the road were available but there weren’t any - I would request this on booking if you stay here. The classic double room does have a nice spacious king size bed but it is quite a compact room. The walls were quite thin so we could hear our neighbours. We felt it wasn’t worth the price, especially as it was about £50 more than we paid in Bristol. The service was very friendly and I really like the modern decor in these hotels. The car park was very simple to use & secure and it was good to be so close to everything.

Stayed on Sunday February 4th for one site. We found the hotel to be excellent, being able to park from midday meant we could explore Winchester earlier than expected, and the receptionist , who was very friendly booked us in early too, which was a bonus. The evening meal in the hotel restaurant was excellent and the girls working in the restaurant that evening provided excellent service and looked after us superbly. We had the 5 course tasting meal which was delicious, and they offered to change some of the red wines to white for my wife, which again was a lovely tough. All in all the staff were great, the food was delicious and I would definitely look forward to staying again.

Good service and venue but everything is very overpriced. A simple cheeseburger costs £22 (and it's just a normal plane burger like you could make at home - nothing special) and drinks are 50% higher than they are at other pubs nearby. A pint of beer is £6.50! They then also add on 12.5% service charge on top which you can ask to be removed but who is going to do that and cause a fuss in front of other customers? They clearly know prices will put people off as they are the only pub I know to not put any pricing information or menus on their website.

The personal touch you get here it what makes it. Obviously combined with incredible food! Sounds stupid to say, but the menu is just what you would expect from being in France! Choices were superb. Wine selection was perfect.

A great restaurant with excellent authentic food. We came here on a Friday night and it was very busy, but the staff set up a table for us in the bar area before a proper table became available. The service was very good, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The garlic chilli chicken is delicious with a peshwari naan 🤌🏻. Thank you very much, we will be coming here again soon!

It's a pub....but kitchen shut by 20:00? And seemingly, more interested in closing than keeping custom. Such a shame, it could be brilliant
