Great local pub and the Sunday roast was spot on!

Nice Sunday lunch with friends. Good atmosphere

Birthday lunch for my daughter, with her grandchildren, my husband and I. Lovely atmosphere and food excellent.

Good parking and staff staff made us welcome as soon as we enters the pub. Even though we had two large dogs with thy offers us tables either inside or out. We chose outside as it was a nice day. We preferred drinks and staff made us aware that it was pay as you go for outside tables which was fine for us. We ordered olives, bread and oil to start followed by Katsu curry and Confit Duck risotto with side of cheesy garlic bread and chunky chips. Olives with 4 types of artisan bread was lovely and our mains followed shortly after we finished that. Food was well presented and tasted great. Service was excellent, lovely, friendly, welcoming staff. Will definitely visit again.

Having visited before as a couple for a rare meal out which was passable, we returned today with the whole family. It was quiet and we were one of only 2 or 3 tables, a definite plus with small kids. Our food however took a while to arrive and had clearly waited under a lamp as it was dry and the plates were scolding. The youngest 2 had no complaints with their children meals which were plentiful but the older child (who ordered from the main menu) and our mains were covered in pepper (fries) and the burgers too. Our onion rings were burnt and soaked in oil (I know they’re deep fried but still..) when we offered feedback the polite and friendly waitress said that during checkback we didn’t mention anything so she couldn’t give a discount. I advised her I wasn’t interested in a discount but that others wouldn’t have such an experience. The other peculiarity was to sit outside we had to pay in advance and suffer the woes of packet sauces, why? How hard is it to bring a pot of sauce outside? Sadly, we won’t return

We’ve just been for Sunday roast and it was incredible. Desserts were equally as impressive. Food and service were top notch, a charming country pub that we’ll certainly be visiting again soon.

Lovely garden, friendly staff, excellent food.

We booked here for Sunday lunch whilst holidaying in the area. We looked at a few places online but chose here and we were delighted. We received a warm welcome and had a table on the left hand side of the bar - family of 4 (2 teens and a dog). We opted for the Sunday roast - 2x chicken, 1X beef and 1X all 3 meats - beautifully cooked and presented. All tasted amazing, couldn’t fault anything. The service was excellent, couldn’t fault anything regarding the young lad who served us. We had puddings too - brownies, pistachio popping candy tart and the apple crumble - all lush and would happily recommend. All in all, a fab place for Sunday lunch. We would returned.

We went yesterday for a celebratory lunch for our wedding anniversary. We hadn't been here before, we're so glad we did, it was a fabulous decision. The food was absolutely lovely. The waitress Sofia worked so hard for the whole restaurant, never stressed and always very calm. I have heard from a friend that even though their website said that the current owners have been there since 2020, this is not the case. The current owners have been here since late on in 2023. What a transformation it seems, the garden has also been improved upon I understand. Next time for that. Whilst we thought a Tuesday lunchtime would be quiet, how wrong were we, thankfully we had booked and within about 30 mins the place was nearly full, with the amazing Sofia remaining calm, my goodness, that girl deserves a medal or a day off! The choice of food was just incredible, we'd highly recommend the sea bass, just like a dish out of Masterchef. The Korean burger according to my husband was the best burger he'd ever eaten. Large portions but everything was beautifully cooked. This won't be our last visit, I'm pleased to say.

Large car park, so that is a plus. We have visited in the past and had food that was well cooked and with good presentation. We thought we would try it again today after an absence of several months. We wish we hadn’t bothered. On entering the bar area to the right there was nobody present to serve us. We waited for a long while and eventually a female appeared who took our drinks order and gave us menus. We sat and waited a very long while for our order to be taken. We ordered two meat and mushroom pies. After another very long wait in a totally lacklustre area the food offering arrived. The meat filling was salty, the stems of the tenderloin broccoli were hard and not possible to cut. Small carrots and parsnip were tasteless. Mashed potato was edible but nothing special. Husband had a pint of Wherry bitter. This was cloudy and the female assistant said there was nothing wrong with it and she had been told to say that it was the first out of the barrel. She told my husband that he wasn’t being nice and she would get someone else to deal with us. She walked off with the dirty plates, dropping an item of cutlery on the floor but at least she sped up a little. We waited at the bar to pay. After a wait the same female returned and asked if we were paying cash or card. Husband said card and the machine was presented when we had not seen the account. Husband asked to see the account. He agreed this to be correct , tapped but payment didn’t appear to work and off she went to get another payment machine. She then showed us the screen on the first machine that said there was no paper within. During the time we were eating our food offerings a dog was barking in the other bar. The female attendant was standing at the phone area rubbing her hand over her face. If you are happy to spend your money on poor service, poor food, nil atmosphere and barking dog you may enjoy your visit. It’s not for me and will not return.

What a fabulous place, we actually came twice in one weekend while we were in the area because the food was incredible. For a little country pub the food far exceeds expectations and was cooked to perfection. Dog friendly and a lovely well kept garden. We only wished we lived nearer so we could visit more often.

This is our second visit to The White Horse & both times have been AMAZING. The food is 1st class. We had the Steak & Ale Pie which is the best we have EVER had. Served by a lovely young lady who made us feel right at home. We could bring our dog as well. We actually ate twice there whilst on holiday in Garboldisham but the pub is in South Lopham just a 10 minute drive from our accommodation. You will not be disappointed with the varied menu & excellent food & beers.

Beautiful Gastro Pub, great people and great food.

While staying nearby at Thorpe Forest, we visited the White Horse and were very impressed. The pub appears clean and well maintained from the outside. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious, generously portioned and beautifully presented. It was also great that we could bring our dog along too.

Had a late-ish lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The servers were welcoming and efficient. We had fish & chips (crispy light batter and crispy fluffy chips) and burgers & chips (apparently a 'proper' patty and the same crispy fluffy chips) - all cooked & ate well. Would visit again.

Definitely would recommend it. Nice atmosphere, really lovely food (I had pork belly, brownie and tried some apple crumble - all were great). The service was very good, particularly from the main guy serving us, who was brilliant.

Very warm reception. Staff very attentive but not overpowering. Food was absolutely amazing. . We had one beef burger and one Korean chicken burger, both were delicious followed by apple and cinnamon crumble with custard. Highly recommend this lovely pub! Anne & Charles. x

My husband and I had a rare child free night out and are both really pleased we picked The White Horse. The food was absolutely delicious, pan-fried duck & a carbonara. Followed by a menu with an array of desserts we'd have happily chosen several from. I would also mention the impeccable service we received. Being a Tuesday evening there was only one server covering the restaurant and bar and he still made time to check in on everyone. Should we ever be in the area again, we'll definitely be coming back.

Oh My Goodness. I had braised cheeks. Every Morsel Was Delectable. So good that I even drank the gravy when the plate was empty. 10/10 I Highly recommend. The staff are sweet and helpful, the music wasn't too loud, a varied menu with Gluten free and vegan options and a great big car park! I'll be going back.

We ate here twice when visiting the area. The food was very good, the first time we both had burgers and shared a salad. The second, I had the chicken burger and my wife the carbonara. The staff were all very friendly and attentive.

The young man that served us was very nice. Unfortunately the food was not the best, pork undercooked, veg hard, the gravy like water. Cheesy chips, chips nicely cooked but cheese was sparse. Cauliflower cheese , cauliflower nicely cooked but the black bomber sauce was poor flavour and like water.

We went here for dinner last night and what a great choice. Lovely pub with a really nice atmosphere. The food was some of the best pub food we have had in a while. Jodie and the team of waitresses were very friendly and incredibly polite. Tgey all knew the menu very well and if unsure went into the kitchen to check. We booked ahead, and when we got there our table was reserved with a little scrabble type block with Dave's name on it. They did not try and squash anyone into little tables, instead they gave us a table for 4 people. I had whitebait which came with a salad including sliced peppers various lettuice and a lovely sauce. Dave had scallops with cauliflower puree, black pudding and parma crisp.Both tasted amazing. For mains, I had the salmon with dill and parmersan croquette, samphire and crispy capers with a marinere sauce with chips and a side of seasonal veg. Dave had sirloin steak, with cherry vine tomatoes , chips, and portobello mushroom and that was cooked to perfection. There is plenty of space to park and the prices are very reasonable. This is a great example of how things should be done properly. We will definitely be back next time we are down here. Annie n Dave Kent

Jodie and the staff at the White Horse gave us a lovely warm welcome. The menu is extensive with great choices of “something different” from usual pub fare. You have the usual pub classics but which a huge step up from the norm. We chose lamb rump and pork cheek. The accompanying vegetables, dauphinois, delicious gravy and jus’s were amazing. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Had a very happy afternoon comfortable and full. Thank you. Will see you soon.

What a wonderful pub, and a big thank you to Will, he is a super star and did everything to make our visit awesome, my Korean Chicken burger was absolutely outstanding and will definitely return to have it again, the beer was too notch to, all in all a great place to visit.

Just back from a wonderful Sunday roast. Thankyou to all the staff who were very friendly. The food was amazing, having had the 3 meat roast. Met with the table reservation in my wife's name in Scrabble tiles, which was a nice touch. Highly recommended visiting. Can't wait to go again.

Had our works Christmas party on Saturday. Excellent food, live band (good but a bit loud). Only criticism is the state of the toilets. All the seats were broken and plumbing falling apart.

Two of us popped in one Saturday lunchtime, hoping we’d be able to get a bite to eat. Welcomed by the lady who was running both the bar and restaurant tables; who, was both welcoming and friendly (you had a small tattoo on your lower arm, I’m sorry I can’t remember your name!). We chose a table, sat for a short while until the nice lady came to take our drink order. Drinks arrived soon after and our food order was placed! Now, important to note, ‘homemade’ often means waiting longer than your usually expected time but no, our wait was very minimal, with our food served deliciously fresh and appetising. 😋😋 My ‘friend with benefits’ companion, chose a large glass of wine alongside a crayfish dish- both of which she thoroughly enjoyed. Myself, I chose the steak pie, (and a pint of real ale which was obviously well looked after before being pulled, and tasted great) which was absolutely delicious in its homemade warmed pastry case with plenty of gravy sauce included. The veggies were tasty and I’d say kind of farmhouse style in their serving, along with the mash which altogether went down perfectly!! Our plates were definitely empty when we had finished- very, very nice indeed. Would unreservedly and unequivocally recommend the White Horse; shall conclusively visit again for food and drinks Thank you Douglas Valentine

The car club we are with met there for a pre organised meet. We ordered Roast beef in advance. The food arrived luke warm and some of it was hard to cut. We told them so and they offered to reheat the food but the point is that they shouldn’t have too. We left the meal and noticed other members were also having trouble cutting into the food . We definitely won’t be going back, neither will the club.

A gem. Absolutely the best Sunday roast I've had in the area, and not the most expensive. Very friendly staff who did their utmost to ensure we hadn't been forgotten or overlooked. Delicious pork roast with amazing crunchy crackling skin. Lots of space so you dont feel overcrowded. Lots of tables and a long serving period (12 - 4.45pm) so it doesn't feel like a rush. Light music in the background not overpowering the quiet conversation. Perfect all round. Best to book but worth a try and you might be lucky like we were.

We had a wonderful Sunday Roast following a starter from the specials board of pan fried scallops. The beef was tender and pink, just as we like it, and the pork and chicken were equally tasty. All served hot and well presented with a selection of veg and an individual pot of gravy. A great choice of desserts and the chocolate brownie is to die for. Our favourite pub when we come up from Hertfordshire to Norfolk as it is always a good meal and great service from lovely hosts. Can highly recommend

Food is always great and the Sunday roast is a firm family favourite. Love having such great food right on the doorstep in the village.

I booked a table for Sunday lunch today for 8 of us. I requested some time ago a serving of totally plain vegetables for my grandson and was told it would be no problem. I emailed this also. On arrival I checked again and was told that they could not do this. I ordered extra spring greens but sadly this was kale and tenderstem which he wouldn't eat either. 6 of us had beef and whilst my son enjoys this very rare, the rest of us struggled. It was cold and barely cooked. We asked for steak knives to be able to cut it. It was flavourless as it was so uncooked. Everything else was heavily seasoned or flavoured in every way. For most of us this spoilt what would've been a gorgeous roast lunch. Even the Yorkshire were flavoured...mustard? The desserts were also disappointing. 2 of us had cheesecake which was still frozen. 2 had brownies which were tiny for the money. All in all we were disappointed. Your images of roasts look amazing but ours were not good. I'm not really sure how you could slice the beef and consider it acceptable to the majority. Mine in particular was pink, cold and jelly-like raw meat. Not pleasant. Such a shame for a large party and a very large bill.

Eight of us came for Sunday roast today. Sadly we were a little disappointed. My son enjoys beef very rare but the rest of us struggled with it. It was incredibly rare. We also found everything seasoned or flavoured over-powered the meat, which due to such little cooking had very little flavour. I am sure it would have been a beautiful joint of beef. I pre-booked several weeks ago and asked at that time for a side dish of plain vegetables for my grandson. I was told this was no problem. I repeated this request by email on confirming choices. However on making sure this could be done today, we were told it could not be done. Not even a few carrots and peas or something. A side dish of seasonal greens were ordered but sadly he doesn't eat kale or tenderstem broccoli. He is fussy. The cheesecake was still frozen for two of the desserts and the brownies for another two were tiny. I don't like moaning but it was a large group with a big bill and we were disappointed.

On arriving we had a warm welcome and we’re shown straight to our table my husband had pork and I had topside I’m afraid to say it was very chewy and the meal wasn’t hot in fact it was less than Luke warm , I would have preferred to say on the day but do not like to make a fuss in front of other customers. This is constructive criticism as being ex publicans we know how hard you all work hot food must be piping hot and strip sirloin a far better cut of meat sorry guys .

Very nice food but an unacceptable wait of over an hour to receive it. This is clearly an ongoing issue and they need to sort it out. Chicken was too pink for my partner. The pork was excellent, the beef ok. Veg and gravy were very good. A good chef for sure but get the basics right and we’ll come back for sure.

If we could give this pub 10 stars we would - great atmosphere, super decor, food that was fun, different but unpretentious, service that was second to none. An absolute not to be missed venue! Well done to the team as you all must work your socks off.

Simply, the greatest Sunday lunch I have ever eaten. As a huge foodie, I have eaten many a Sunday lunch at many establishments. However, none came close. From the great, smiling welcome when I walked in, the attentive but not over intrusive attention, and the food...... just wow! The meat (I had the 3 meat Sunday lunch) was awesome. Chicken, pork and beef. All cooked to perfection, all succulent. As for the gravy, OMG! Never have I drunk gravy from the little copper pot it was served in. I can not recommend this place highly enough. And all for £15.95. Try it and you won't be disappointed. An overall fantastic dining experience.

Quite easily one of the best roasts in Norfolk & Suffolk. Great bar with loads of options, super friendly staff - well recommended all round! Open mic nights & events here are definitely worth attending as well.

This pub is a Norfolk gem. Don't usually write a review, but felt this place deserved. Would highly recommend going for a meal or just a drink. The staff are all polite, great atmosphere and amazing food.

Just had a delicious Sunday roast at the White Horse. Very generous portions, great service and a wonderful place for a family meal. Highly recommended it.

We ordered the Sunday roast_- roast chicken for my wife and three meats for myself. After a 40mins wait the food arrived but was not hot, it was taken back and returned 10mins later. The chicken was not roasted but sous vide and then pan fried, I was told this way of cooking the chicken was stated on the menu but after leaving the restaurant I checked the online menu and it states roasted chicken. With the three meats roast, you get one small slice of pork and beef and a chicken piece which was very disappointing.

My husband & I visited the White Horse today for lunch, it was the first time either of us have been. The bar/serving staff were very attentive and extremely pleasant. We both chose the chefs pie which we both agreed it was the best pie we had ever had. We travel extensively and have had the good fortune to have eaten in some excellent establishments. The pie at the White Horse was magnificent, meaty juicy & no soggy bottoms. I believe a young new head chef (Jack) has been appointed, all I can say is he is doing a marvellous job. We will most certainly be back and will ensure our friends and neighbours know of our find.

A MASSIVE shout out to The White Horse at South Lopham. I have been today for Sunday lunch and WOW, it was amazing. By far the greatest Sunday lunch I have had for a long, long time, if not the best. The greeting with beaming smiles from the staff, the impeccable attentive but not overwhelming service all added to a fantastic experience including the quality of the food. I had the 3 meat lunch. My knife cut through the chicken like a knife through butter, the beef was succulent and pink and the pork with a fine crackling were awesome. The cauliflower cheese was to die for and as for the gravy, well, that was the best I have ever tasted (so good, I ended up drinking it from the copper pot it came in. Not the greatest of dining etiquettes) The portion size was very generous, and all for only £15.95. Top, top value for money.

After hearing about the white horse in the news after they had gotten a new headchef at only 21 years old myself, my wife and my father in-law went to visit for a Sunday lunch and the only downside was the heat we were experiencing during a heat wave! The service was fantastic, greated with a smile from scarlet and she made sure we were comfortable where we were sitting. Jodie, the manager, even offering a clipboard to us to use as a personal fan when we said we were hot! All the staff were so friendly and hospitable. Now the food, the food was a delight, of course we had to try the 3 meat roast and it was probably one of the best I've had in a long time, the cauliflower cheese was beautiful and we wanted to drink the gravy. Not a bad word to be said about this place! We even booked our next visit before leaving. If you're looking for great food with an amazing atmosphere and terrific staff I would 100% recommend the white horse any day. Beautiful job from all of the front of house and back of house staff. Well done!

One of the best Sunday lunches I've ever had. Definitely 2 AA Rosette worthy, at the very least. We dined as a party of 3 on a sweltering Sunday in September. All of us opted for the three meat roast, which was chicken, pork and beef. We also ordered some seasonal greens and cauliflower cheese. The food was presented beautifully, it was clear that a lot of care went into assembling each plate. The chicken was melt in the mouth, the beef was tender and pink, and the pork was beautifully cooked. A fabulous touch was the slice of pork loin had a stunning sliver of crispy crackling. I also appreciated that the gravy (more on that later, the gravy deserves its own review) was served in a small serving dish on the plate, so the crackling was able to retain its crisp and not go soggy. The carrot and swede puree was earthy, sweet and delicious. The roasted parsnip retained some bite so there was a great mix of textures on the plate. The potatoes were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the Yorkshire pudding was crispy and made for soaking up that stunning gravy. Everything was beautifully seasoned (extra marks for the good pinch of sea salt on the greens). The cauliflower cheese was rich and creamy, with a thick cheese sauce that glistened. Just stunning. The gravy...sublime. Huge depth of flavour, a wonderful umami savoury-ness. I can't put into words how lovely it was, I cant stop thinking about it. The service was wonderful, everyone was smiling and friendly. I often judge a pub or restaurant on the welcome I receive - top marks here. Welcomed, seated and served with a smile. Thank you all for a wonderful lunch. We have already booked again for next month, can't wait.

Called in for a late lunch with the gf and 3 dogs. We had burgers mine being the Korean BBQ. Oh my word this was fantastic but very filling. I would definitely have that again.

Definitely order fish and chips. Nice place, high prices.

We had the perfect date night my wife and I at The White Horse in South Lopham. We came here as we were staying in the Norfolk area and we had an amazing soup for starters and then a homemade pie and a mouthwatering moules...

The cod and chips were the best we had ever tasted. The brie and cranberry ciabattas were superb. All in all, a fabulous lunch with great service. Thank you very much.

We had a lovely meal here Friday evening. Never been in before and sooooo glad we did. Have to say the cheesy garlic bread was the best I’ve had. Also the steak with Stilton sauce was to die for. What was really good was they gave you plenty of sauce which for me was a bonus. My children had the pasta dish which they loved and my husband very much enjoyed the burger. Didn’t have time for desserts but will be going again and trying those. 10/10 to the chef.

We came here for a works meal. The food options were good and as a vegetarian it was lovely to have a couple of options to choose from. I had the vegan burger and that was lovely. The rest of our group said how nice their food was as well. I thought for what we paid for the food was good value. The atmosphere in the pub is always lovely and it always feels really inviting. They usually have lots going on and regularly have live music. The pub also has a good beer garden and a good amount of parking space too. I really enjoy coming here.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. With a good sense of humour to help relax. The food is well served. The place is very clean and always a pleasure to eat there. Vegetarian choices are limited though.

Food was fantastic. All the staff were friendly & couldn’t do enough for you. There was a Saturday night live singer too which was good. Would highly recommend the food.

We arrived for pre booked table for 3, friendly welcome and enjoyable cold lager. Average steak, Ok Fish and Chips. Hunters chicken also just okay..very small piece of chicken! Salad shouldn’t really be called a salad, more a side garnish. We sent back the coleslaw as it was brown on top and white underneath (been hanging around a bit was our guess). Mushy peas were left as they were garden peas a bit squashed. No reduction to bill when pointed out to the waitress who agreed with us and said she would have to speak to the Manager…. So we waited…and waited and realised that said Manager wouldn’t be making an appearance! So we left. The strangest thing was, we were the ONLY customers in the pub and the service was slow.

We chose The White Horse for its proximity to Bressingham which we had just visited. It was Father's Day, so very busy but the service was good & the Roast Beef was delicious. So many places these days seem to think it necessary to serve...

Very friendly lots of seating inside and out

Spur of the moment dinner date, very noisy, service was good but food was disappointing, one of us had chilli with rice, presentation was poor and chilli was bland. One of us had loaded nachos, they were nice but chilli same as above. Chips were also not what was expected. Not sure if the chef has changed as we've previously had a few good meals

Nice pub with nice beers and friendly staff

Beautiful little pub in a nice bit of Norfolk countryside. Disappointing service though- waited for our food for a full hour before requesting a refund. People came in after us, ate, and left in the time it took. We left hungry and irritated. Please check up on your customers, especially if you know there is going to be a wait!!

Sunday Lunch was reasonable-probs 3.5 star rating. The meat both Pork and Beef were fine but the portions not very generous. Sharing board starters were great however.

We almost had a perfect Sunday lunch today at the White Horse, the selection on offer was great and cooking was excellent. Perfect selection of drinks available, the Mahou on draft is very welcome! Have to knock a star off for service, the staff are lovely but especially on a Sunday they should have asked and served the sauces on the table before serving the food.... Sitting, waiting (then having to chase up) while your food is getting cold waiting for the horseradish etc is frustrating for the guest! A small point but as a table of 8 it's what we were talking about and the only letdown, hopefully it will be resolved and definitely look forward to returning and giving the extra star ⭐ *Update* We returned for lunch over the weekend and every issue was solved, faultless! 👍 Extra star added 👌

Absolute shambles. A colleague cancelled their order but mine was cancelled in error. I arrived a little late and hungry and expected my food may have been a little cold, which would have been my fault but due to the error I had nothing and...

The food was not what I expected it to be. Well presented Salad does not count as a single small tomato and four bits of cucumber and 15 bits of leaves Hard garlic bread. Pre booked and waited ages for service. Cold coffee.

For pub grub it's very nice. I had lamb shank, mash potato and tender Brocolli. My husband had BBQ ribs, chips and coleslaw. Our bill came to about £43. It would have been nice to have two or three vegetables on the dish. The Meat was cooked lovely and fell off the bone. The Food is freshly cooked, no ready made nor frozen food. So really nice in this respect. Service was attentive and welcoming.

cider was undrinkable mybe they should clean there pipes the curry was like a prison curry , a plate of slop aweful service
