The Kings Head in Breckland

Have visited many times before, recommended to many friends but last night it seemed we were not really wanted. First no drinks order taken after being seated at the table. Hardly had menu and waitress was hovering, knew we were waiting for another person, came back every few minutes to ask, so in end we ordered.Food was excellent as usual. Asked for sweet menu and asked for extra time to see if last person caught us up. Constantly being hassled for order, plates and glasses taken as soon as you laid down your utensils, do you want you bill straight away. Almost ushered out. We had not seen each other for over 18 months and wanted to sit and chat and take our time.Very disappointed.

Highly recommend! What a little gem to come across. Very friendly welcome with exceptional service throughout our stay, nothing was too much for the owners and staff to do. The food was top notch, with fresh local ingredients all cooked exquisitely, with a faultless 3 course evening meal and breakfast the following morning. The room was very clean and well presented and could not be faulted. The only minor issue was the poor WiFi connection however this did not bother us, but may do other people. Will certainly be returning and can’t wait!

Felt very comfortable with all COVID arrangements. Great table service and a good menu selection. Very drinkable beer too.

First time to this lovely friendly pub, staff were very welcoming and helpful, we all chose roast dinners and the food was exceptional all round. Couldn’t fault anything. We live an hour away but will be back again especially to visit this gem. I just wish I could have made room for dessert! 10/10.

Went for a Sunday roast with my sister. Such lovely food and a real family feel. We had a slightly older waitress who strangely made us feel like we had done something wrong from the moment we sat down. We are only 24 and 18, and were really looking forward to our meal, but even asking for sauces seemed like it was too much and to be honest I struggled to work out what it was all about. The young blonde waitress who brought us our drinks was so lovely, and I watched her working so hard for her tables, Smiley and accommodating. Definitely an asset to the kings head, I’m sure if she had been our waitress food wise, I would have felt very differently. The desserts looked just as amazing as the mains but to be honest by this point We felt uncomfortable and just opted for getting the bill. I work in the pub business so I do understand it can be stressful, it’s just a shame it had an effect on our experience. The food was lovely, and the building is cosy and clean and I noticed a great range for vegan/ veggies which is so hard to find in Norfolk!

As a group of 4 we go out most Sundays and return to the ones we "really" like. Today was our 4th visit since coming across this fabulous establishment..... The Food never lets us down, its always been very good and today was fantastic as usual.... Just a heads up to the owners today.... The staff today were so lovely. Friendly, happy and nothing was too much for them (we have never been let down by your staff, but today we all mentioned how lovely all of them were and we know that you were very busy.... Thank you - Thank you.... its lovely to have somewhere, where we "always" have an exceptional meal.

We bikes from applewood camp site and was squeezed in for Sunday Roast. It was honestly one of the nicest roasts I have ever had. The environment was very welcoming even with social distancing measures . The staff were exceptional, very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The two course was really good value for money also. We will definitely be back .

Just back from a delicious Sunday Lunch here with family , lovely food, friendly service, well staffed (a rarity these days) and in delightful surroundings. Will definitely return

If any one wants a great meal and is worried about Covid you should eat at the Kings head, their safety procedures are faultless and the food is amazing

If we could give this more than 5 stars, we would!! Amazing place, such a high standard of accommodation, beautiful décor, absolutely spotless throughout. We stayed here for 3 nights and we would go back tomorrow. The service and food were out of this world, run by Dan & Jenny who are fabulous hosts and their staff are a credit to them. We can not recommend this place highly enough.During these unprecedented worrying times we felt safe and cared for at all times. They had Covid protocols in place throughout and all staff adhered to these at all times. A lovely safe haven in a beautiful peaceful and friendly village.A huge thank you to Dan, Jenny and of course Poppy and all their lovely staff for giving our family a wonderful holiday. Recently checked in to the Kings Head as it was close by to visit family, Meg behind the bar checked me in and was extremely polite and helpful, the room was fantastic and just what I needed after a long drive. The food and service was brilliant too. A Massive thank you to Jen & Dan for being exceptional hosts and sorting out my little situation the night I stayed, cannot fault the place at all! I feel like I’ve found a little gem in the countryside, will definitely be back again.

We have just spent 3 nights at The Kings Head. It is a beautiful old pub which has been sympathetically refurbished to the highest standard whilst retaining its mediaeval features. The accommodation is superb, comprising of a large bedroom with very comfy bed, and a spacious bathroom. The food is also excellent - even though they do not serve food on a Sunday night or all day Monday, they offer to order a takeaway meal from local establishments, delivered to the pub, which we think is above and beyond, We had a very warm welcome from everyone - Danny & Jenny (the landlords), Sally-Anne, Bella, and Meghan (and others in the background) - who cannot do enough for you. They made us feel so welcome and were all very friendly for the duration of our stay. The locals are also very friendly and chatty. We will definitely return - one of the best and nicest places we have ever stayed. We had planned to stay for just 2 nights and move on elsewhere for the 3rd night, but we decided we could not find anything as good as The Kings Head so stayed for another night - we are so glad we did.

We were a party of nine in for lunch, the service was excellent from start to finish. With a variety of home cooked dishes there was something for all tastes. I had the Steak pudding which was superb, but everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Although there are tables in the bar to eat we had a table in the restaurant which had a great atmosphere with sensibly spaced tables. The attention from all members of staff was spot on and we will not hesitate making a return trip. Highly recommended.

A must visit, Beautiful refurbed country pub. Atmosphere was warm and friendly, food was amazing, truly delicious. All home prepared and cooked on site. There was so many lovely choices on the menu and specials board It was seriously hard to pick one dish. We were a table of 9 , the service was excellent, all meals came out together,and was so beautifully presented, no sitting about for hours waiting for it to arrive. One of the best, if not the best restaurant/ pub meal I’ve had for a long time. Will be making it a regular haunt.

I usually visit the King's Head about three times a month, and have done so over the last couple of years or so, with my wife and sometimes family or friends.We have never been disappointed in either the food, which is fantastic, or the staff and locals who are so friendly and helpful. Our seven year old granddaughter loves it and sees it as a special treat,as do we.

My wife and I celebrated our Golden Wedding on the 28th December 2019 at The King's Head which was recommended by a friend and we could not have made a better choice. As we had already celebrated our anniversary earlier in the year if was fitting to do so again on the actual day. We were a party of twenty and without exception enjoyed the excellent food, outstanding service and friendly staff.We are grateful for a splendid and successful evening and our thanks go to Jenny and her team for making it so.

Went for a Sunday roast with the family. Lovely owners, very warm and welcoming as was the pub. Done up tastefully that it is both clean and modern but homely with a wood fire going in the corner. Roast and dessert coming to £14 each, very good value for money for the quality and service we had. And looking at the rest of the menu, can’t wait to go back to try something else!

Was recommended The Kings Head by another eatery as my partner and I was up in Norfolk for a Christmas function the night before and had a meeting the following morning in Attleborough, cant praise this establishment enough, was warm, friendly with great hosts - beer and the food was fantastic, will return when in Norfolk again no doubt and highly recommend if your in the area... On another note, we were chatting to a couple who were staying there for the weekend and they said the accommodation (B&B) was amazing!

A party of six of us went for Sunday lunch after a walk in Old Buckenham. Warm welcome, attentive service and excellent food. At £14 for two course, and all homemade, excellent value. Would definitely return if we are ever in the area again.

Visiting family locally, we stayed 2 nights at The Kings Head. The bedrooms are bright and comfortable, the bed very much so. Exposed beams and creaky floors add athmosphere though all facilities are modern but in no way take away from the overall ambience. We'd definitely stay again.

This place ticks every box. Super rooms with great shower, well appointed, clean and lots of space. Lovely hosts who obviously choose and vet their staff v carefully. Super Restaurant. Food delicious. A lovely country inn. Can’t wait until I’m next working in that part of the world. My new go-to-place.

We had a lovely evening last night at the King's Head. Have been there many times over the last number of years and not ever written a review. As a regular, the service, food, and beer quality is always very good. Thought this time I would write a review because the Thai Green Curry was fabulous. Keep up the good work you lot!!!

We were in the area for a wedding and needed somewhere to eat on the Friday night. We booked here without reading any reviews, and how lucky we were. The food was delicious (big portions!). Service was impeccable and the dining area was lovely. We will be back!

We visited the Kings Head for a catch up meal with friends who had never been there and it hit the spot in every respect. The bar area had a great atmosphere and the restaurant was busy. Despite the activity the service was excellent as was the food and drink. We all left feeling very well fed and watered! This is a great little place where all the staff want to do is please - which they did! Full marks for a great experience and keep up the good work because you deserve continued success. One or two local restaurants could learn a lot from you!

We went here for my birthday as I didn't fancy going to any of the other local pubs. The menu looked good and there looked to be an option for all the family. The service was friendly and quick. Myself and my brother are fussy and they cooked the food as we asked. The food was lovely and the steaks were cooked as asked. We will definitely be coming again!

What a fabulous find! I booked a table for 7 of us for dinner last night, the food and service was fabulous, we all loved it. We've booked again to go in December, can't wait, thank you and keep up the great work.

There were 7 of us. Quick service for the drinks whilst deciding what to eat. Great attentive waitress. Food hot and extremely nice. All had clean plates.

My family and I stayed at the Kings Head for a wedding in the local area and it was absolutely perfect. Extremely welcoming staff, very comfortable beds (the most comfortable bed I've stayed in for a long while!!) and a delicious breakfast cooked to order in the morning. The rooms are lovely with old fashioned wooden beams throughout. Would definitely recommend.

Food very good,plenty of menu choice and friendly staff.This was just what we needed after a pretty walk round the villages and Castle we shall definitely return 😉

We stayed here overnight after visiting family . Lovely room , good breakfast but we didn’t get a good nights sleep as there was people watching sport downstairs in the bar till 12.30 .....so it was very rowdy and you could everything they were staying , including swearing !!! We will be down again visiting the area but would not stay here again , which is a shame as it’s so convenient to whee family live.

Situated in a pretty little village this pub is going places ! The menu is interesting, varied and excellent value for money. A little off the beaten track... well worth a visit.

Just been for lunch and had Sea Bass on a bed of Risotto, followed by the Lemon Meringue Stack. My friend had the fish pie and chocolate brownie. Very nice restaurant area.

We visited for our monthly lunch outing, this was the first time we had been to The Kings Head and we will certainly return. There were 18 of us and there was no single complaint. Well done!

We had a lovely meal here and the waitresses were lovely, however during the course of our meal we had several flies intruding, we managed to get a couple but it became slightly irritating while eating to keep swatting flies away, especially as we were dining inside.

We visited the pub as a group of 13 for Sunday lunch. Menu had something to suit everyone, including children and vegetarians. Service was very good and the food was an excellent standard and enjoyed by all. Thanks for a great meal!

Family meal, great staff. The dining area is just through the pub.

Visiting relatives in the area, we needed a beer before bed time, a good nights sleep, and a classic English breakfast to see us on our way home. We were not disappointed! on arrival we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. What a delightful surprise. One of six rooms recently refurbished, it was a tasteful blend of the new amongst the old exposed beams (and an oak pillar in the middle!). We went down for an excellent pint of bitter from a classic Norfolk brewery before retiring for the night. The shower room was clean and modern, and the shower itself was hot with plenty of water. The bed proved to be one of the most comfortable ever slept in; a most comfortable night's sleep indeed. In the morning the breakfast was top class with excellent service. What fantastic value for money - can't wait to come again and have dinner as well. Thank you, Kings Head !

I wasn't sure in the first place of that was the place, but in this quiet address you fall in love with peace, nature and the local people. I'm sorry I didn't ask for your names. We were created warmly and kind by the girls behind the bar. We weren't sure if we wanted to eat. Well I was. Few dishes of the day which in my experience days straight away cooked fresh today. I chose the lamb pie with chips and gravy and peas. I was ready for something mediocre. There pie arrives with a little flag on it saying "Baa". I giggled and tuck into the chips. First bite and from what I know as home cooked this took me while back when I was growing my own veg and potatoes realising that this is all home grown, cooked and couldn't wait to try the pie. Oh Lord that was cooked beautifully with love. Then we talked to a lady who seemed to be one of the chefs who walked round and started a conversation. From what we gathered she was the mum of the head waiter, who is the manager of this place, who also have cooked this for us. Absolutely adorable family run business with lots of charm. We loved you tonight and wish you all the greatest success and happiness in the world.

We booked as a last minute getaway and have not regretted it.

What a friendly place! We were made to feel very welcome when we stayed for a few days recently. The room was clean, with tea and coffee making facilities (and biscuits ). Shower gel and shampoo were also provided. We ate in the bar/restaurant both evenings and the food was excellent - home made, plentiful and very tasty.

Four of us had a nights stay at The Kings Head as we were attending a 50th Wedding anniversary in the Village Hall, in the morning we had a really nice breakfast with our cousins their family and friends, as our cousin lives close by I am sure we will be back at The Kings Head again.

Popped in for lunch again yesterday It really is the most friendly pub. I had steak and ale pie and my wife the sirloin steak. Both were excellent. We were sorry to hear Mel is off to pastures new. She was a star. We wish her all the best for the future. It won't be long before we visit again.

We arranged to finish our 7 mile walk from New Buckenham through Old Buckenham and back. This pub was chosen as it is fog friendly. It is very nicely done out and very welcoming. I ordered a latte coffee which was very good. Then prawn and crayfish sandwich with sweet potato chips. All delicious.

I called in for saturday lunch with my sister the layout had changed slightly sinch my last vist.The kings Head had a great friendly atmosphere. We ate in the restaurant the food and service were both very good. There were several customers in the restaurant and bar i would definitely recomment a visit.

Every Wednesday evening I find myself seeking an eating venue in South Norfolk. Quite by chance, this week, I met someone who recommended The King's Head, New Buckenham, especially as it was "Pie & A Pint" night. I hadn't visited the place for many years, and was pleasantly surprised to discover the transformation. Everything about the place was appealing and the food, ambiance, welcome and service was first class. The homemade pies were exceptionally good, as was the bread and butter pudding. The restaurant menu looked extremely inviting,and the wine list sensible and not overpriced. All in all, excellence in everything, including value for money. I shall be sampling the remainder of the "pie" selection over the coming weeks.

Great food and very friendly atmosphere! Have both eaten, stayed and had a drink here. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing sunday roast, best we've had outside home / London for ages. Between us we had the Lamb, Chicken and Pheasant. Gravy made from scratch, meat cooked perfectly, generous amounts of veg and gravy, massive Yorkshire puds, good wine and epic deserts sampled including Baileys Creme brulee and Lemon Stack (rugged pavlova). Altogether a fantastic dine out, thank you.

Booked here for shoot dinner. Friendly busy and cosy feel. Problem with electricity so couldn’t have a few bits off the menu, they worked very hard to give us a varied menu. Lovely feel to the restaurant and the food was tasty and well presented. We will be back.

This was the 2nd time I have stayed here and can not fault it at all. The staff are fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble. Excellent customer service. Very warm and welcoming. The owners make you feel like you have known them for years. Extremely comfortable clean rooms. Food is all home cooked and I can Honostly say the best full English breakfast I have ever had. I didn’t want it to end.

We had our wedding reception here two years ago, and it was brilliant.

Just returned from a short holiday to New Buckenham. We decided to pop in here for a drink and a game of pool. We had our 18 month old son with us & he needed his dinner so gave it to him in the bar area & they happily provided us with a highchair. Considering he was very loud we had a nice hour in there late afternoon on friday. Gorgeous roaring fire on the go & the pool only cost 50p! Bargain compared to near where we are from! Didn't eat in here so can't comment but if we return we would deffinatly consider popping in again

Been here for meals several times now with adult family members, tried several items from mains and a few desserts all have been really good and reasonably priced. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Certainly a place I will keep going.

The fairly new managers at The King's Head in New Buckenham have enhanced the menu at the pub/restaurant hotel.There is more choice and the food was absolutely top notch.My husbands beautifully cooked steak came with a creamy brandy and pepper sauce and the sea bass was delicious.The seafood starter had just the right amount of vodka in the sauce,to compliment, rather than overpower the fish.The pavlova was exquisite (diet in the new year) In addition there was a warm welcome from the helpful staff.Popular, so I advise you book!

I'm not sure why but there seems to be a recent trend of serving roast potatoes with a Sunday roast that are twice the size they should be and not quite roasted enough in lard or goose fat or something nice and tasty like that. There's no crispy bits and much too big.

Due to family Illness - thankfully getting better - I have just spent three nights at this great pub. The room was bright, clean and very comfortable. The bed was amazing; the full English breakfast sublime.

Third time to this venue. Great place to stay when visiting Norfolk. Just a short train journey to Norwich which saves parking costs and the stress of driving. Food was very good and the beer went down well . Owners and staff are very welcoming. Will be returning next year.

Only tried the bar food so far, had an amazing burger last time. Eaten here a few times. Generally the bar food has been above average.

We eat here most Saturday evenings. Lovely family friendly pub with an excellent varied menu. There are always specials that are different every week. The food is home cooked and alway hot and delicious. Highly recommended!

Four of us had pie and a pint on a Wednesday evening we had booked as we had herd that the pub became busy and we were glad that we did. The pub was full and not surprisingly, the choise of beer was very good and well kept and served in fact we had a second pint, then the pies, we all had chose different, chicken, lamb mince, beef, fish pies all home made and in a great pastry they were excellent, wheteher with potatoes chips vegetables all very good and such great value Friendly staff and a great atmosphere, a place we will return to

During our recent weekend in Banham, we enjoyed a meal here. Often visit this pub restaurant when we stay but never eaten here until now and we were not disappointed! I'm veggie & there were a few choices. I had the spinach & ricotta canneloni. It came out bubbling in the dish, it was that fresh! Staff are always so friendly and accommodating in the Kings Head. Would recommend to anyone.

I loved this place. Very welcoming. Great staff and fantastic food menu. Everyone that worked here were pleasant. We totally enjoyed our experience here. Even the customers were friendly. Lovely.

Arrived at 6pm was met by a lovely lad called Jenny was shown to family room which consisted of 2 bedroom one with double bed other with 2 single beds and a bathroom all lovely and clean and modern. Had evening meal also in the kings head all lovely big portions, well cooked and hot. Had a really good sleep area nice and quite.woke the next morning early 7am as had commitments elsewhere had arrranged to have breakfast early with Jenny which was no problem had a fantastic cooked breakfast all local produce as could tell by taste well worth the money staying here thanks to Jenny and her staff

Service was fine. Food was average, however, the roast potatoes were not up to scratch, in that they seemed to have been precooked and finished off in a deep fat fryer. Vegetables were well-cooked and plentiful. Roast lamb was okay. The Yorkshire pudding was very good.

This is a great place to stay. Dan and Jenny, the landlord and landlady, and all the staff we met were super friendly, welcoming and really made our short stay ideal. We'd cycled to the pub and needed refreshments after a very hot 30 miles. We were poured drinks and made to feel really welcome. Dan even found us a tool to fix a bike seat. The food was lovely. Good menu, good variety, excellent service and sensibly priced bottles of wine. The prosecco was good too - we were celebrating a job promotion!

Went for meal (for 3) for first time since it had changed hands 3 months ago. Previously the pub provided a very good menu selection at a reasonable price.

3 of us out for a quiet bike ride through the Norfolk lanes. Stumbled across this place. The staff were really helpful and accommodating. It was a bank holiday weekend, weather was fine and they were expecting lots of customers. However, they fitted us in and fed and watered us without any reservation. The food was really good and the service was excellent.

Another excellent Sunday lunch, staff are always helpful and friendly, service is always good along with the quality of food. I have done a previous positive review but I believe all good places should get these good reviews try the Sunday Lunch you will be back for more.

We have been camping locally and found this pub. What a find! Very friendly and welcoming. Great range of beers, beautifully cooked food, and the staff were great. Highly recommend this pub.

This was the first time we'd eaten here since Dan and Jenny took over, and it was great.We had the roast dinner, lamb for 1 and beef for 2. The roasted carrots and parsnips were a bit different and really delicious; there were plenty of other fresh veg, 3 huge roast potatoes, plenty of gravy, and the best Yorkshires I've ever had (and I was born in Sheffield) My 94 year old mum managed most of it, and was given her leftovers in a nice foil parcel for tomorrow! The sticky toffee pudding was good too, nice and light. Very good service, great value and altogether to be recommended. (Maybe you should put a menu outside so people can see what you're doing now?) We have a big family gathering for mum's 95th in September and I shall definitely recommend you to overnight visitors.

For the Easter break we chose to stay in a property in New Buckenham following some research of a lovely village with two local pubs which met our requirements.

Located on the green with only parking around the green which was not easy. Was advised that the new management team have only been in place for three weeks so still early days but very friendly. You get mixed messages when you first enter the bar as to what is on offer as there is a TV, pool table, children play toys and a few tables. You then disappear through a side corner door and down a passage and enter the dinning room area which is a reasonable size. The meal was reasonable and a good size and reasonable cost. Had the sausage and mash which was nice but a bit over welmed by gravy. Worth a try.

We were staying nearby and decided to walk along to The Kings Head. We received a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was very nice and staff very attentive. Overall a lovely little place :)

Spent a lovely Friday night here with friends. Bar area is typical village pub, big sofas and log burner. Good range of wines and 3 real ales on draft.

Lovely dog friendly pub. Good selection of real ales, great food. we had snack lunch one day, evening drinks another and Sunday Roast. Couldn't fault it.

Popped in by chance on a Friday lunch time, place was quiet but looked homely and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. quite a varied menu for lunch and dinner. The pub has I understand recently been renovated and it has a cosy quaint olde sytle pub feel.

Today we had a fabulous lunch to celebrate mums 75th birthday. Staff very friendly and even though there was party of 10(including 2 children) the food was brought out very promptly and very hot, with plenty of vegetables. Wonderful choice of food and very filling. Will be def coming back for more family celebrations. Best place we’ve found for food. Biggest thanks to chef and kitchen for fabulous meal . And all reasonable prices.

Smashing little pub with accommodation. Booked for a quick visit over New Year. The staff were superb and the rooms were excellent. The locals were all friendly too! A much better place than we expected to be honest. Well worth a visit. Food was great, rooms were lovely and clean. All really good. Very pleased with our choice.

I reviewed this some time ago, but at that time the bar atmosphere let the whole establishment down for me. Have since visited again and the bar this time was great and the staff really friendly. We had a Christmas get together and the food was excellent. The waiting staff were brilliant and I think that locally now this is the best venue for a meal. Well done. We shall certainly be back!

Warm friendly welcome, extensive menu with extra specials. Place was immaculate and decorated for Christmas but not in your face very subtly done. Food was so very good and everyone had a great evening. We will certainly use this pub again without a doubt.

Rolled up unannounced, hungry, and not in the best of moods after the Journey From Hell back from London, hoping to be squeezed in for Saturday evening dinner - this was our third try locally, after one nearby establishment who were fully booked and another we walked straight in and then out of, deterred by having to run the gauntlet of the raucous Lung Cancer Club outside and then endure the deafening noise inside.

We often pop into the kings head for a relaxed lunch and we always enjoy it. Good quality produce and friendly staff. Just lovely:)
