How refreshing to have a true local pub back in the area .. Landlord is simply AMAZING ! So welcoming and friendly … 10 of us landed on him and he fed all of us with tapas that was absolutely gorgeous… I cannot rate it high enough and don’t understand how anyone can fault him … he is honest and Inso wish him every success in getting The White Hart back on the map as a local pub .. I appreciate all he has done to renovate and make it his own .. he deserves success and I can’t wait to be back :)

Visited on a recommendation for a birthday lunch and booked in advance. Decor was inviting and bar staff polite. My menu choice was cod goujons with skinny fries. My expectation was cod goujons would be crispy but sadly on this occasion they definitely were not. Disappointed overall however the skinny fries were nice.

A birthday lunch with friends that sadly wasn't a great experience. Place was nicely renovated, and waitress was friendly. However our meal was not great at all. Out of fairness I did inform the owner by email, but his response was cruel and personal. He asked us not to go back. Happily six women can oblige.

Called in here of a beer but having seen the menu I also had a wonderful traditional dinner. The place is just a good old pub with a good selection of beer and lovely home cooked food. I had chicken pie, with chips and peas, cant go wrong with this and the pie was just wonderful, better than mother can make as the saying goes. Will happily recommend this place, with a good old publican to anyone and when down here next time will make it my go to pub.

We stayed at Ferndown for a weekend away and wandered from our hotel, the Bridghouse Hotel (highly recommended) to find a local Pub. We came across the White Hart and got there just on opening time. Log burner in full swing, choice of well kept local real ales from ‘Badger brewery’ Firsty Ferret and Tanglefoot. Very windy so not many customers venturing out. but Landlady, Carol, very hospitable and friendly . A great two hours of pleasant company, good beers and great ambience. If you are down that way it’s worth a visit. Right next to Heskith Garden Centre. A True traditional proper pub.

We visited the White heart Inn for an evening meal. We were greated by a very unhelpful and unfriendly landlord. We weren't told anything about the menu which was on the wall. Eventually we worked it out for ourselves. The food was nice enough but there were lots of flies around. My father in law spilt his drink he is 82 years old. The landlord cleared it up very rudely not even asking if a replacement was required. I would not visit this establishment again if it was free. The landlord needs to learn some people skills.

I was lulled into a false sense of security by the “4 star” rating on this site. I noticed the musty smell on entering the bar, and the presence of flies around the table, but ignored these things because of the rating. The landlord was the grumpiest I have ever come across, and really didn’t seem bothered. There were only 2 other small groups sitting at tables (which should also have rang alarm bells given that it was a Saturday lunchtime), and yet it still took about 45 minutes for them to produce a ham and cheese sandwich, a Stilton ploughman’s, some garlic mushrooms and a steak and Stilton salad. When questioned after we had been waiting 40 minutes, the landlord grumpily stated that “the food is prepared fresh”. Well yes, I would have assumed that, but this was still excessive in view of the fact that there were hardly any other customers. When my ploughman’s arrived, there was the tiniest bit of salad with some poor quality bread and tasteless coleslaw. The Stilton itself was thankfully quite nice. By this time, we had managed to kill 2 flies and were busily trying to swat another. I could hardly wait to get out of there. Sorry, but we will not be returning. I cannot see how this establishment came to earn 4 stars.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I don't like giving out poor reviews, but this was one of the worst meals I've had for some time. Credit where it is due, the beer was well kept and served, but there wasn't much else I could recommend. The pub was looking pretty tired - the beer garden overlooked a load of stuff that should have been taken to the tip, and things like dirty ashtrays and umbrellas several years past their retirement age displayed a general air of decrepitude that you wouldn't hope to see in a country pub.The food was the low point though. Two portions of fish and chips and a baked potato with stilton and coleslaw were ordered, and although the baked potato was passable (albeit rather limp and microwaved), the fish and chips were just horrible. The fish was clearly of the mass-produced frozen oven-ready variety, with a thin layer of anaemic grey fish served with frozen crinkle cut chips and slightly dry peas. However, one of the portions of fish was so tough it was impossible to cut. I'm not sure how that was even possible, but they managed it.Again, to be fair to the landlord, he refunded the meal without question, and blamed the supplier, but £10 for a meal that would have cost, at most, £2, was very poor value for money.I was surprised to find this was a Hall and Woodhouse pub - I would have expected better standards.I hope they are able to take a look at the quality of their food - with a bit of TLC and attention to detail, this could be a really nice little pub.

We were too full for desserts but they sounded delicious. Landlord and barmaid were very friendly, checking everything was ok and even joining us for a chat and banter! Always great to know that the food here is cooked properly, not usual microwaved rubbish so many pubs serve these days. The menu changes regularly and there’s always something new to try. We were a group of 6 ladies on our yearly Christmas get-together. We thought a bit of lunch and a glass of wine would be a good way to kick it off. On entering this establishment we were not welcomed in any shape or form, we were almost a bother. We were frostily told what pie there was and it there was only one choice, no mash, no mushy peas and no gravy!!! You couldn't really write it!!! We ordered 2 bottles of wine and then another 2 bottles and asked for some water. It was duly left on the bar with 6 glasses for us to collect and distribute ourselves. We spent £100 and left no tip which goes against everything I believe in but you just couldn't as there was no service provided. We were told in no uncertain terms that they lock up at 2.30 pm. Why this couple have chosen to work in a public house is beyond me. The woman who is front of house makes it very obvious she really does not like people and has absolutely no social and interactive skills one requires to run a pub. I would highly recommend serious staff development or another career as this one is seriously not suited to either of them.

It does what is says on the can.Passed this place for years and thought I must try on of Carols cracking pies (as it says on the A board)Well on arrival we were not all that impressed. There was a damp smell in the air and an atmosphere to march!.The landlord and landlady were sat at the end of the bar and we were a little unsettled by the atmosphereBut after chatting to the landlord and landlady things started to brighten up.They are a lovely couple and so hospitable despite our concerns at first... (don't judge a book by the cover comes to mind)Anyway we decided to stay and eat despite this and ordered two of Carols cracking Chicken and Chorizo pies with veg.We waited about 10 mins and the food arrived. And it looked so appetising and sumptuous( just like mum used to make).I cleared my plate and was full to the brim but my fiance was beaten by the size of her dish. The food was well cooked and tasted so fresh and as for the PIE! well the pie was the best I had tasted in years :-) :-) :-)What a lovely meal was had by the both of us..What had started as a bit We will be back and hope the landlord and landlady are not offended by our first impression comments..A BIG hearty thank you to you both for a lovely meal:-)

My wife and I went there for a casual meal and beer having driven past numerous times and promised ourselves a taste of Carole's cracking pies. We were NOT disappointed... This is a proper pub with good well kept ales and the food was HOMEMADE not just home cooked which can mean anything. The pie was delicious and great value. Having been disappointed with so many overpriced pretentious eateries recently it was refreshing to find somewhere offering real food and real beer at real prices. If you want fancy surroundings and jus or foam with your dinner this pub is probably not for you, but if you want a tasty meal in a relaxed pub then give it a go! We will be back!

If you want a traditional English pub with great food this is for you. Not big but like pubs used to be. We love going there, especially for Carole's pies - superb.

We go to this pub most Saturday nights so you can tell we like it! The food is always excellent and the staff friendly so there's a happy atmosphere. Carol's pies and meat puddings are very tasty, as are the other dishes on the changing menu, and the puddings are very more-ish. Portions are generous, which is popular with us. Highly recommended.

What a pleasure it is to find a pub with traditional values, good beer, good food and good service,so many pubs these days serve microwaved food at inflated prices, this was home cooked and tasty. Both my wife opted for the Steak & Mushroom pie, it was delicious and portion was ample, and we got extra gravy, something you do not get in many places.Next time I am in the area, The White Hart will be on the agenda to visit.

Having seen the 'carols cracking pies sign' we decided to venture in and sample the food.Although very busy we were served drinks quick & a table was found amongst the already busy restaurant part of the pub.As the sign - 2 ploughmans pies were ordered & 1 roast beef dinner.Within 10 minutes our meals were on the table & as the photo was more than ample for us - although boiled potatoes were part of the menu carol allowed us 'chips'!All 3 of us full from a great home cooked lunch we couldn't resist the sherry trifle desert. Only 2 ordered as we didn't think we could manage having seen others coming out.Result - great food good service with the banter of the locals - proper pub!!We will be back carol to sample the rest of your menu soon.

Apparently famous for its pies. So two of us tried it for a lunch. The pub was fairly busy and had a good atmosphere. We both had the chicken pie, which was quite good as were the chips. The vegetables could have been better. There was a reasonable selection of specials and the portions were of a reasonable size, so I think it is worth another try when I am in the area again.

We visited as a grown up family with the intention of sampling one of the famous pies. This is an unpretentious pub- all one room, partially given over to eating, but having some tables and seats for people who just want a drink. You can also sit at the bar if you would like to. They serve Tanglefoot and Badger best bitter( both very good!) plus bottled beer and ciders, there is wine if you prefer. The landlord is very welcoming, and patient ( we could not make up our minds what to have to eat) . The are good selections of foods, starters, mains and deserts..not too many , but all looking tempting. I had a steak and ale pie which had delicious delicate pastry and plenty of tasty filling. Somebody else has the steak and kidney pudding which he declared to be fabulous- high praise from a great chef. The other dish was the chicken and leek with Stilton crumble which was steamingly gorgeous. It is a relaxed place with locals coming and going, a selection of books that are sold for charity and they allow dogs to come into the bar area. All great attributes. There is a small car park at the back, and a secluded beer garden which, in the warm weather, would be lovely. Only one downside.. The toilets are in need of a refurbishment.. Would I return. Oh yes!!!!

The busy road (A348) past the White Hart frequently flows slowly as traffic from the Poole conurbation tries to escape north to Ringwood and beyond. Watch out for Carol's Pie sign as you reach the environs of Ferndown and leave Longham in a Northerly direction. A stopover may well pay off. This is an unspoiled Hall & Woodhouse inn stuck in a time warp which boasts tables of suspicious locals supping Badger as well as those who want a well cooked and reasonable meal or snack. Whilst there was much more on the menu, our bacon sandwiches were perfect making use of very fresh bread. Carol herself served us and the accompanying beer she pulled was well kept. As you savour the experience play the trivial pursuit-type game that adorns every table. The White Hart is from another world, and long may it prosper.
