We visited this establishment on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday we were a group of 4 visiting the area and staying at a nearby campsite. We had booked a table for 7pm totally forgetting it was a bank holiday and likely to be busy. When we arrived it was busy but our table was ready and service was friendly and prompt. We all asked for the advertised Sunday roast, but due to the brisk trade that day all roasts had been sold(our fault for booking so late). The waiter expressed regret and allowed us more time to checkout other choices. While looking at the menu another member of staff came to our table and explained exactly why there were no more roasts but that he would gladly do us roast chicken with a different selection of vegetables ! It was totally unexpected but very much appreciated. We thanked him for his kind offer but picked something else so as not to be difficult. It was so nice to have such unexpectedly good service on such a busy day so thought I would like to thank the staff and recommend this pub to others. The other choices of meals we ate were of good standard so I expect the roast would have been as good Well done good service still exists.

Four of us went to the Ash to celebrate my husband’s 92nd birthday. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and excellent service. Very pleasant meal. Very good value.

Tried to book via app but our party was too large, so telephoned instead. We were asked to pre-order our roasts, unfortunately as the roast chicken is a half chicken it's too much for children and they didn't fancy beef which was the only other choice when we went. Food was delicious and plenty of it. The mini puddings with a hot drink are excellent and with the children's meal ice cream tub is included, so good value there. The roast is a large portion, so if you have a small appetite beware. We had a large table , so good to all be together.

Staying at the local campsite, and fancied a bite. Found this excellent pub/restaurant and we were not disappointed. Charming staff ( Sophie was superb), really excellent well prepared and presented food. Interior very nice, and lots of outside spaces for the summer. If only all gastropubs were this good.

We and two friends went for Friday Night Fish (until 1830)...what a great deal! With fish and chips anywhere between £16 and £20 this is a great offer. All the fish portions were big and cooked well. It was, of course, very busy, and I think most people were using the offer. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful, especially Leah and Sophie -which I think is a very important part of a meal out. We own a local B&B to the pub, and will certainly be recommending it to our guests.

We were camping at Verwood Campsite and chose to eat dinner at The Monmouth Ash on our night of arrival. It was so good, we came back twice more during our week. The atmosphere in the pub is lovely, all staff really friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. We would thoroughly recommend this pub for great food and really lovely staff. If we ever return to Verwood, we will definitely be back.

The food was good and the staff were both welcoming and provided good service. We sat inside as we arrived after 7.20 and it was quite cool outside; however it was also quite cool inside as it was quiet and as expected the place was well ventilated.

Had a great lunch here, it is very clean and the staff are friendly and efficient. Had the homemade sausage roll with brown sauce, it was wonderful.

Strict measures in place. Registration and hand gelling mandatory. We were not allowed to drink without having our meal. It was an amazing meal and the staff couldn’t do enough. So friendly and attentive. Recommend hummus starter the onion bhajee burger main. It was yummy. The roast turkey dinner was lovely too.

Arrived early to enjoy drink before meal and seated in area with 4 tables Meal came fish was horrible definitely not cod it tasted earthy muddy smelt horrible it was never explained that cod or haddock wouldn’t be served but an alternative Then another 2 groups arrived each with a young NOISY baby we couldn’t hear ourselves speak. We left disappointed had hoped to enjoy a bottle of wine but noise to much. On leaving it was annoying to see many many tables in different areas emptyWhere we could have been seated. Came her on holiday. Lovely atmosphere with nice and friendly staff. The food arrived fast and was presented nicely.

A very comprehensive menu for lunchtime and evening meals. Whatever the meal chosen (by four of us) it was served piping hot and with excellent attention to the service. A great selection of beers and ciders are available as well as a variety of wines and soft drinks. The customers inside and outside were thoughtfully separated between tables as required in the current conditions. We would not hesitate to visit The Monmouth Ash at any time.

Enjoyed an excellent lunch with a group of friends; the first after a long break. Not only was the food & beverage excellent, but the (necessary) controls were adhered to without inhibiting the ambience. Already planning a repeat performance - - -

Novel experience today. Four of us booked lunch and arrived to find the kitchen closed! Apparently the pub had been busy for three days with the meal deal, so the Manager had given the chef the day off! We did get a drink “ on the house” but a strange way to run a business! I won’t be rushing back!

We had a meal on a Tuesday with the restrictions due to Covid. We felt very safe with the systems in place to minimise contact. The food was delicious and the service was great. We were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. Thanks

Half decent pub with half decent atmosphere. Have not eaten there, but seems popular. Prices are fair, but the lay out is a bit of a “dog’s breakfast” and the staff are not overly friendly

We visited our cousins for the weekend and came for dinner Saturday night. Some disappointment at first because there was a distinct lack of menu options - lots they had run out off - better attention to ordering on the kitchen front required. However, the waiting staff, in particular, Leah and Tom, were fantastic. Good humoured and very attentive. Also, the food options we did choose were wonderful and can’t fault them. I occasionally visit this pub. Mainly for a fantastic bit of food. The burgers are incredible especially the chicken one. All the staff are always happy, welcoming and full of smiles. Great to see such well behaved dogs in the pub. After all it’s a family pub. So give it a go you won’t be disappointed!

This is a great pub but is in dire need of a menu update as its becoming boring with the same food on offer everyday and what has happened to the Specials board?

Dark and unwelcoming at lunchtime, and almost empty. The food was just passable really - fish was nice, but goodness knows what happened to the peas (a cold solid lump!). My friend had the curry, which looked grey and uninteresting a didn't really taste of anything. Overall quite disappointing.

Had the rib eye steak. For £20 the steak was thin and small. It was accompanied by a few leaves and chips. It tasted ok but was very disappointing and poor value. I know it's not the pubs fault but £5 for a pint of lager that I can get in the supermarket for £2. Profiteering by Hall and Woodhouse..

Beware...the portions are "hearty". There were four meat options for the Sunday Lunch, 4 of us all chose Pork, and 1 had chicken. The large plate arrived, and it was full of meat, possibly 5 different types of Veg, Roast potatoes, and a huge Yorkshire pudding. Feeling a bit peckish beforehand, we also opted, for Pigs in blankets, and cauliflower cheese. The resultant challenge to eat everything on the plate, was way too much for 4 out of 5 of us. All the food was hot, very tasty, and in my opinion , just perfect. I look forward to going to the Monmouth Ash again, for another Sunday Lunch, wiser in the knowledge,that perhaps I don't need to order so much. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this nice place to eat.

Unfortunately we have had another bad experience at the Ash. We have been coming here for years so I feel embarrassed to write a 2nd poor review. My husband had the duck confit which had been roasted to extinction and was inedible. However the manager didn't charge us for that meal. My meal was fine. The main problem was the number of badly behaved dogs in the restaurant area. I fully support being able to take dogs anywhere and I have a dog myself. But there were 2 dogs sprawled in the walkways getting in everyones way and barking. Then a man walked in with 2 spaniels who barked and got in the way. Another dog brushed its tail against our table when there was food on it. A waitress brought a dog bowl of water to the dogs and we wondered if she would wash her hands before handling food /plates. There were dogs everywhere although some were well behaved,a lot were not and I felt that the staff should have had a word with their owners. We left as soon as our main course was over and we explained to one staff member why we were unhappy. He said that a decision had been made to not have dogs in the restaurant area so he didn't know why 5 dogs had been put there. Unfortunately it is the owners of the dogs who have spoilt this for everyone else.

The Monmouth is by far the best pub in Verwood, nothing much comes close but I'd suggest a change in kitchen staff on Monday evenings. I ordered the H&W; Burger and expected good things, what turned from mouth watering readiness turned in to one gripe after another. The burgers had clearly not been freshly cooked but taken out of a hot hold, the salad had been in the bun too long and had gone mushy, the bacon was chewy and for burger sauce well I think a dribble on top somes it up. 1/10 for the burger, for because it was warm.

A pub that has been recently refurbished without losing any of its old world charm, the Monmouth has friendly, knowledgable staff, a real pub feel and good quality food. The beer is well kept and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing.

Booked a table here for lunch on a Tuesday. The place was almost empty, not sure why. We choose a table away from the bar area.

The Ash has refurbished and appear to have less dining tables than before which might be a problem as it can get busy. There is a whole area of comfy leather chairs and sofas where you can relax with a drink. Dogs are welcome inside. The menu however is very restricted. The company have added vegan dishes, which is good but have taken off some of the other choices so there is now nothing i want to eat for a main meal. I hate it when the only choices on offer are basic foods you can eat at home. I hope Hall and woodhouse improve their menus for the winter. Also unlike other H&W; pubs the Ash does not have a specials board.

An amazing roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Served hot and fresh, tender beef and impressive Yorkshire pudding. Great service lovely local. Lovely touch, the father's day gift pack. Well done everyone

The pub, part of the Vintage Group, was extremely smart and offered enormous space with a range of seating styles.

My wife and I recently enjoyed several evenings in this friendly pub.

Called in last Sunday evening for dinner. We were seated quickly, had a drink and ordered food. We both had fish and chips. The fish was nicely cooked in a crisp batter and the chips were excellent. We were not disapointed and will visit again.

Went back on Easter Sunday for lunch again made very welcome and great atmosphere, and not rushed. Sunday Lunch was great as was our desert, will be back. I reckon best pub in Verwood for a meal and a drink

The lamb meal I had was compleatly raw and cold on the inside and pink round the edges and was unedabl I sent it back I love lamb pink but draw a line on eating it raw meanwhile my partner had the gamon which he enjoyed he ate his meal while I waited which was fine The lamb was deliverd back to me I would say it had been microwaved and although it was no longer raw in the middle it had gone like rubber along with the acompliments which made the dish unedable I was very dissapointed to say the least The response I got when i said sorry but the meal was unedable for me was that they had eaten the lamb earlier themselves and that it had been fine the comment made me feel very uncomfortable and I got a very strong impression they weren't happy about me complaining so I declined the offer to have something else we paid and left Such a shame about the lack of customer service

Have been several times now, love the fact that when you book your name is on the table when you arrive, staff have always been friendly. Went on sat 13th April and again all was good. My wife had the lamb which looked great and I had the gammon which was really tasty, they forget my egg and pineapple, but Ill have to have that next time!!. I love the atmosphere in the place and the fact that it seems to be busy is a good sign. Well done to all and thanks.

Six of us (plus 9 month old baby) had a wonderful sunday lunch here. They even allow doggies, so we took our white lab in who was very happy under the table eating dog treats from the bar.

We booked 6 of us for Mothers day. The service was friendly, attentive and very efficient. The food was great and reasonably priced. Couldn't fault it, every member of our party had a positive comment which drove me to write a review. We'll definitely be back.

Stopped here for lunch about 1300, thought bring late it would be no trouble getting a meal. Shown to a table & got drinks fine. Waited for about 35 minutes to place order, in the end got up & ordered at the bar. Long Long Long time passed before we got our meals.

We visited the Monmouth Ash today for lunch today Telephoned Saturday and reserved a table for 2.30 on Sunday. We were warmly greeted and told we could move if not happy with our table. Happy to sit where shown, the waitress was very polite. We all ordered a roast which was lovely and so was the pudding couldn’t fault our visit. 10/10 - thank you

Nice place. Like the brewery. Similar to other premises in the area. Staff nice. Food okay. Typical pub food. Nothing exciting. Would revisit. Wasn’t busy which was good.

Visited the pub for meal after a walk with friends and our dog. Very welcoming pub... Lovely atmosphere... But the meals.... Oh dear!! 2 of us had the special roast... Lamb shank recommended by the waitress... 2 had the roast beef.... We waited quite a while for meals to arrive... And when they did we were so disappointed... The meals were all cold... Not just one element of the meal but all of it... And served on cold plates... We called waitress over and she took the meals away... The second meals to come out were also served on cold plates but was marginally warmer... By this time we were all hungry so ate the meals... I did not finish mine as the lamb shank was fatty and tough, not falling off the bone as it should be... At £16 for this I was very disappointed. We did order a couple of desserts which were okay... The waitresses were pleasant but on the whole pretty slow in coming to take our order, I had to ask for dessert menu, and we waited quite a time for her to come back to take order. The pub was fairly busy when we arrived but was quiet by the time we were onto desserts. So all in all a disappointing visit and although a nice pub to visit for a drink I would not recommend eating there. We would not return.

First visit here with our very dear friend who is 93 years old,she recommend it and we were not disappointed good honest pub food reasonably priced and a friendly atmosphere.

Me and my friends visited The Monmouth Ash the evening of Sunday 13th January.We were greeted by grunts by the Bar staff who were terribly rude.We even had to wait to be served whilst the bar staff stood talking to another member of staff and clearly saw us waiting.Very disappointed

recently refurbished, this little gem in Verwood is worth a visit. Very cosy corners lots of settee and lovely horseshoe chairs. Food and beer great. Looking forward to going back there again soon.

Went for lunch whilst visiting family , food was very good plenty of it and good value for money . Although very busy staff very helpful.

Never been out for Christmas Lunch before but this year as on our own we thought give it a try, Had a great time we arrived at 13:30 left at about 16:30 all the food was great as was atmosphere and all the staff on duty, If on our own next Christmas will certainly do it again. We went to The Monmouth Ash on the 28th November as we’d heard it had recently been refurbished, and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent, vegetarian options for my husband was wide and the service was speedy. Compliments to the head chef for such excellent food. Will be returning soon.

My wife and I stopped by for a lunchtime sandwich and a pint. The pub/restaurant was deserted apart from one other couple and the bar staff. The bar and restaurant looked like they are ready for an upgrade, which we discovered will take place for six weeks starting 11 Oct 2018.

Had an amazing Sunday lunch here today. All the meals were great, and molly, Rebecca and Greg made our experience much more enjoyable by looking after our (high maintenance) group and meeting all our high demands! Will very much look forward to returning soon. Thanks again!

We decided to go for a meal having ate there on a previous visit to Verwood. The place was heaving around the bar with drinkers obviously there for a long evening: impossible to get service for food. There were a few sad looking potential diners sitting at foodless tables. If the place wishes to double as a "drinking den" and a restaurant then it should take action to separate the two and look after the diners. We managed to extricate ourselves from the crowded bad and left. So no idea what the food was like. The scores reflect all this.

Having been a regular visitor to this pub for 13 years and now with our family as well, we were incredibly disappointed with our last meal there this week. Having had Christmas and Christmas Eve meals here without any issues this week was by far the worst meal. Part of the shared starter was burnt and having returned it, it was then presented with the same food in the same bowl just topped up with more burnt pork belly.

A great welcome after a late booking on the day. They welcomed us despite the having a very damp dog with us.

Thanks to all at the Monmouth for a superb after wedding meal, Gregg and and his team were fantastic and couln't do enough to make our day special!!

Waited for an hour for food. Sat and watched people who arrived after us get their food way before our food arrived. I don't think that we are going to return here in a hurry.

We had a very disappointing Monday lunch at the Monmouth. Initially all was good - interesting dishes on the menu, friendly and accommodating service from our waitress who kindly swapped one unwanted item in a dish to a small portion of fries without charging extra. Unfortunately, all changed when the food arrived. A prawn starter was delivered without any dressing. The waitress assured us that there was dressing on the dish but it wasn't visible to the human eye so a small pot of the dressing was then brought to the table. The vegetarian sharing platter was meant to come with a portion of hummus and crudities amongst other things. There was no hummus (apparently they had run out but not thought to tell me so I hadn't been given the option to change my order) and the 'crudities' consisted of 4 small and thin strips of toast. When I pointed out both omissions, a waiter then brought a small additional serving of the babaganoush to make up for the missing hummus and some carrot strips. On paying the bill, the waitress saw no reason to offer a small discount to address these issues feeling that all had been resolved during the meal. The reality was that two out of four dishes did not come as stated on the menu, no hummus was available and what was meant to be an enjoyable and relaxed meal was marred by having to point out errors, wait for missing elements to arrive and then feel uncomfortable about these issues not being recognised within the bill. We often eat at the Beach House in Milford on Sea which is part of the same pub group. Both the food and the service there are so much better and have never disappointed so we shall continue to travel there instead.

Having just moved to the area we are thrilled to have found the Monmouth Ash. The service was excellent. Our waitress, Molly, was very friendly and attentive. The Sunday roast was without a doubt one of the best we have ever had and the Walnut and Coffee panna cotta was incredible. We have found our new regular haunt!

Just moved into Verwood and thought we would try our new local for Sunday lunch. Absolutely bowled over by not only the amount and quality of the food, veggies cooked to perfection; but also the customer service provided by our waitress Mollie and the rest of the staff were second to none. I can honestly say that was the best Sunday roast I've ever had out at a pub. We will definitely be recommending the Monmouth to family and friends. We are looking forward to becoming regular locals!

Just returned from having a family meal here tonight, and felt the need to express just how bad the service was. After booking a table for nine, we arrived to find no table had been reserved. Not a good start, but worse was to follow with the waitress from Moody land taking our orders after eventually getting seated. After asking if the bill could possibly be split between two families, I thought her head would explode. The whole concept had completely bamboozled the poor woman.

We have just spent an evening at The Monmouth Ash. We had booked a table to eat at 7.30 but arrived early to enjoy a few drinks outside, which was very nice. At 7.30 we went to our table inside and ordered our drinks and food. My husband decided to have a starter of potato skins and we both ordered main courses. At no point were we told that there would be a long wait for food and as the pub was fairly quiet inside we assumed it would be a normal service. I realise now we should have guessed as while we were outside a couple and their little one arrived and went in to eat approx 20 minutes before we also entered. A while after we had ordered our drinks one of the waiters took a tray of drinks over to the families table, only to discover they had left! Unfortunately we also had a very long wait for the starter, (40 minutes) followed by another 40 minute wait for the main courses. We had complained after 30 minutes and were told that the chef was cooking them now. It took another 10 minutes, by which time we were both past being hungry. The food was fairly average and the wait unacceptable, as was the response to further complaints from ourselves. The Monmouth Ash seriously have to up their game if they want to attract more people to enjoy their hospitality. Such a shame as we had high hopes for this lovely looking pub.

Came for lunch, had fishfinger sandwich bread was so overly toasted it was rock hard!

We had a lovely salad lunch 1 tuna 2 chicken ceasar, plenty on the plate with good dressing.The service was good without being over the top. A good place to eat locally.

We had a very good meal at the Monmouth Ash at the May bank holiday. The staff were great, the food was very good and it was altogether a very pleasant experience. The service food and price was very good. I can't click the relevant ratings below as it won't allow me to.

We ordered as sold on your menu as standard size 'two award winning pies' which were far from award winning! The vegetables and mash were luke warm and I had to ask the waitress when they were served if they were the smaller appetite portion as quite small for a main course. They did not look appetising at all, very disappointing.

We visited three times in three days. Really friendly staff and great food/service. The veggie roast was excellent..... superb selection of veg and delicious gravy. Scrummy chocolate and coconut torte. Burgers were good too. The lamb kofte went down well. Plus dog biscuits and water bowls galore for the hound. Recommend!

Second time we’ve visited the Monmouth Ash for a Sunday Roast. Not only tasted great but visually appeasing. Bright freshly cooked seasonal vegetables, crunchy roasties, large homemade Yorkshire pudding, beautifully cooked pork loin complete with crackling. Large plateful, even my husband struggled to finish it. Staff friendly and polite, dog friendly, lovely atmosphere. Well worth the drive out of Bournemouth to get there. Totally recommend and definitely going back soon

Lovely food, bit slow in coming but cooked to perfection especially the fantastic range of vegetables not to mention the Tanglefoot Pie so well worth the wait. Friendly atmosphere, pleasant ambience, real fire much appreciated on a cold day and would definitely recommend dining at The Monmouth Ash.

Typical pub restaurant with set menu plenty of seating and food is nice however it’s trying to be a pub and a restaurant where you cannot sit down to have a drink as the tables are for people who are eating also expensive for what you get

We decided to visit the Monmouth Ash at the last minute. It was very busy but they found us a table. There were a couple of items unavailable on the menu but luckily it wasn’t what I would have chosen! The service was exceptional, the food was really tasty and went down well with a bottle of red. The staff continually checked on us to make sure we had everything we wanted. A great night out!

Been a regular at this pub for many years and I’m afraid the quality of food has gradually gone from very good to awful. There’s not a dish on the menu that is worth trying at the moment. Whatever is going wrong in the kitchen needs sorting out ASAP.

Very poor service .ordered carvery disappointed when arrived half a chicken on bone not true carvery .then when started to eat found chicken not cooked red in some parts very tough rest of meal unable to after seeing raw chicken also cold l found the all 3 meals the same spoilt family date out not once did the staff ask if everything was alright not very friendly so paid bill and walked out would not go again

Had heard good things about this pub. Pub itself was nice. However the food was a bit of a let down.we ordered the Sunday roast but it was poor value. The portions weren't great and the carrots were inedible - too hard. Wasn't very well presented either.

Poor value for money . Very limited menu. Won't be returning here again
