Another Excellent stay. Have stayed here on a few occasions with my son. Always the same very warm welcome. Family run hotel, that offers great comfort, hospitality and exceptional food. The breakfast is worth the stay alone. Highly recommend. Can’t remember the lady’s name who does everything from breakfast to cleaning etc, but she is fantastic and so welcoming, we haven’t stayed for a long time and remembered us right away.

We visited with two other family couples for a late Sunday Lunch. We had pre-booked the Beef and Pork meals as we had been told they run out quickly. The pork was not served as I had expected and would have preferred it if it had come with Crackling but nevertheless it was very tasteful and a decent sized portion. Everyone also said that the Beef was good too. We were a bit disappointed and under whelmed with the desserts as there was not a great choice on the menu and some items were unavailable. I also feel that (especially we are now almost in winter) that some puddings could be added to replace the unimaginative Ice cream or Sorbet. Again though the desserts were tasty, although the portion size a little small compared to other restaurants. The lay out of the restaurant is pleasant and whilst the prices are somewhat higher then other local establishments overall it is not bad value for money. The service overall was good, but it was disappointing that the bar was closed (at 7pm!) so we could not have a drink away from the table. Also the parking is very limited so I would not bother trying to find a space in the Hotels car park use the one about 5 mins away!

Another top notch dining experience at the White Hart Welwyn. We chose 2 courses from the set menu - Sea Bream with mushroom risotto (so flavoursome) followed by Chocolate Mousse (to die for). They were easily able to adapt my main to GF. And all offered at outstanding value. I cannot rate this place highly enough

I visited "The Tilbury" their other venue and posed the question could this be as good. The answer is 1% difference. The Tilbury had the unmatched dessert! This venue is full of character and beams! The starter was a torched mackerel with a significant difference with its accompaniments. The roast beef was delicious perfectly cooked, with lots of veg and the nicest roast potato's I have ever had. Only gripe slightly softer Yorkshire please. Dessert again was an interesting blackberry parfait with flavours and textures. Lovely but hard to match that Tilbury dessert. Nice non alcoholic spiced drink. Delightful attentive staff. Small but functional clean toilet. It's pretty close to perfect, was it worth the 110 mile round trip, oh yes!

Went here for dinner. Food was good, on the expensive side for what it was. Service was friendly and good, but you expect it to be when you go for dinner. Bit more upmarket place than a pub, nice environment. My only negative was the added 12.5% service charge. My absolute pet hate. What happened to tipping if you want to? I strongly object to this freedom to add it it to the bill without permission. Based on that I would not go out of my way to go back. Life is expensive enough these days without the 'presumption' you should add a tip for the pleasure of someone taking a food and drink order and bringing it to your table. They are already being paid to do that. If it is a management thing, then increase the prices by 12.5% on the menu and be transparent about it. I object that you add it to the bill, unauthorised. You say, it's discretionary, and you can ask for it to be removed, that puts a lot of people in an (un-necessary) uncomfortable position to have to 'ask' for it to be removed in the first place. I for one would, others would be embarrassed to do so. How about just 'not putting it there in the first place'? Just because others have started doing this - does not make it right.

We were so looking forward to having a nice Sunday roast here. So disappointing. The guy behind the bar was new and inexperienced he had no idea how to make a shandy or spritzer. Which just made us feel sorry for him. Obviously his first time behind the bar with very little support. The staff were really friendly and helpful in the restaurant. We ordered our food which arrived promptly. Ordered a 3 meat roast which cost £37. Unfortunately the chicken was tasteless and the roast potatoes were inedible. The veg was cold. The Yorkshire puddings and gravy were lovely however the cauliflower cheese didn’t taste like there was any cheese at all. The staff were really attentive and took our feedback well. We were given a discounted bill. Such a shame the food wasn’t great but really pleased with how it was dealt with. We will give this pub another go because everyone has there off days. But won’t return on a Sunday. We were give a discount of about £15. I hate complaining but wanted to provide feedback.

Despite visiting White Hart several times for dinner over the years, we have never joined them for a Sunday lunch. We changed that on New Years Eve. A very disappointing evening meal for three. Starter of tacos was sub-Nandos in standard, just two bits of breaded pork in an unwarmed wrap. Main course steak arrived cooked well done, rather than medium as ordered. This isn't a slight detail - for a steak, this basically defines the dish you are eating. When asked whether everything was OK with the meal, this was gently raised - we were given warm apologies but told that nothing could be done. At a proper restaurant (and at £40 a head with drink, this should be a proper restaurant), I would expect at least some remediation on the spot for a mistake like this - an offer of a second steak, a glass of wine, or striking it out from the bill. We didn't ask for this, but that's where standards should come in. I've had better meals in a Toby Carvery. Staff seem to be trying their best but we won't be back.

Arrived for a meal and left with an experience like no other. Started with the pork rib taco with salsa Verde which was a fantastic combination of flavour and texture of the soft taco and crunchy breaded pork. The homemade onion soup had a great depth of flavour along with the onion jam chutney hiding at the bottom to accompany it which worked beautifully. The chicken schnitzel with truffle Mac and cheese with Toscana kale was a well rounded and balance dish, everything there had it’s place. I truly believe they could take away the salt and peppers from the tables as everything was seasoned to perfection To finish of their take on an apple crumple was light, refreshing and flavourful. A massive thank you to Charlie, Marc and Elle in the kitchen. A massive thank you to Freddie, Brie and Charlie for their attentiveness and bringing an outstanding and exclusive atmosphere.

A Friday before the Bank Holiday en route to France. We knew traffic would be tragic (correct), so opted to stop overnight on the way south. Welwyn is a quite affluent small Hertfordshire town and the White Hart felt a better fit than a similar priced Travelodge. Plusses. The staff were second to none. Welcoming, knowledgable and hospitable. The pub itself was good too, pretty much as the advertising blurb. We though didn't stay in the pub. There are four exterior lodges, formerly stables. They are in need of a little tlc. The cobwebs and bird muck on the outside doesn't really endear you to a place. We were in S4 and inside was fine other than being a tadge dated. A quick jetwash would really make a difference. I would not put anyone off visiting here, the enthusiasm of the staff alone make it worth the effort, it just requires some basic bits 'n' bobs put right.

We've been staying in the hotel regularly over the years, and always eat here too. I think this may be the 2nd time since it changed hands. We opted to eat in the bar as it had a nice atmosphere and was more informal. No problem - they kindly reserved a table for us. The menu was a bit odd - a bit of a weird mish-mash of dishes - with starters seeming at odds with the mains. The starters were the sort of thing you'd find in an upmarket restaurant with culinary ambitions, but most of the mains were much more basic 'pub grub' type affairs. Very little on the starters appealed, but the Korean chicken wings were lovely and we picked the peppers from the nibbles section, also yum. For mains, I had the fish burger with sweet potato fries (lovely fries, the fish burger was a bit dry), and my husband had the battered halloumi with chips - which he said was good. Ice cream for dessert was yum, though not very well presented (just 3 scoops in a bowl, no swafer or garnish). The wine was lovely. Overall, a good experience :)

Group of us came here for our Christmas get together, pre ordering off the Festive Menu. This place has a serious chef producing the most delicious food; the wild mushroom mince pie really is so clever and delicious. Turkey to follow cooked beautifully with all the trimmings and the dessert....always my favourite as what they say, is what you get - ie ‘blackberry and meringue’ and you get soaked blackberries with soft meringue and crunchy meringue, SO delicious. Oh and you just can’t beat their halloumi fries. A fantastic evening with nice wine and great service. This restaurant is well worth a visit for any meal, Sunday lunch is unsurpassable too.

First impressions were great - easy to find with good parking, initial lovely old feeling with nice bar, but we paid extra for a four poster bed, which was really just a normal bed with wooden posts, nothing special about it at all. Dirty carpets in hall and lobby, leading to dirtier carpet in room. Shower ran warm and scalding hot alternately. Room hadn’t been cleaned properly with bits all over the floor and someone’s used cuticle stick left at the end of the bath. No net curtains and a view over the major junction in front of the hotel meant the whole world could watch us in our room. Our friends in another room had no windows at all. We were very disappointed as we had paid the going rate for a good quality room with four poster bed,Staff very polite and attentive though and the downstairs dining area was great, with a brilliant filled cooked breakfast. 2 star up to 3 star - just for that.

Ok so where do I start? Firstly I’m writing this in the bar after probably the best toad in the hole I’ve ever eaten (& I can make it) I wouldn’t normally write a review until I’ve left but on this occasion here I go. I walked in and shock horror there’s no one at reception- hold fast there’s a sign saying join us in the bar if we aren’t here (or words to that effect) liking that and within seconds I’m welcomed to the hotel. A choice of rooms and I settle in (pop down to the bar = settle in) quick pint then a wander around the village - oh sorry Mr Moan I couldn’t find an ironing board but I’ll live. Back for a cheeky vino & the toad in the hole - bit busy with a large group but they were very pleasant and wandered off - no idea where. Peace resumes and I crack on with my meal - not only sausages but pork belly - it was delicious- I’m writing with a full tummy and already looking forward to breakfast. Dammit forgot to mention tip top service- friendly, fun and attentive. So far so good & no reason to doubt it won’t continue - right off for an early night in preparation for breakfast. Well done & thank you the White Hart

After looking forward to a Sunday Roast we were very disappointed. I ordered the chicken which arrived grossly overcooked, it could not be cut with a knife and fork. Managed to eat the potatoes and veg. Husband ordered the beef, in his words it was 'OK'

A group of us had lunch yesterday and it was throughly enjoyable. Most of us had a variety of Sunday roasts which were all cooked well and very tasty. We also had selection of starters and desserts which were very nice as well. I personally had the pork belly croquettes to start followed by roast beef and bread and butter pudding with custard. The croquettes were ok but the rest of the dishes were delicious. The staff were very attentive and friendly and the prices were very reasonable, I’d definitely return.

Although we have dined at The White Hart in the past, this was our first visit since the refurbishment. It was an impromptu private lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary, before a family party two days later. I was hesitant when I read the Tripadvisor description which says that the restaurant serves "light lunches" but I telephoned and was assured that the Tripadvisor description was wrong; the same menu applies to lunch and dinner.

We’ve been here a few times for Sunday lunch, and we are never disappointed. We’ve tried the roast chicken and beef and both were top drawer! The staff are always friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. We don’t live local to the pub, but it’s always worth the 30 mins drive!

Taking my disabled daughter to lunch in this town centre hotel/restaurant was a pleasure. Easy parking in the hotel car park, friendly but not pushy service providing good basic fare and a decent pint!

I have had good experiences here previously but was not so happy when I took my daughter for a meal last week. The waiter recommended the toad in the hole. The Yorkshire pudding was really stodgy, even the crust was soft (possibly kept warm). I told the waitress, who seemed very inexperienced. At the end of the meal, which I did not finish, we were presented with the bill. There was no response to my complaint and nothing taken off the bill. I had to ask about my concerns again and was told that the chef said it was cooked for 20 mins so was not a problem!! No apology, nothing taken off the bill. Not really good enough for what is really a very expensive pub meal.

Our family of 5 had Sunday roast on 9 September. We had chosen to try out the restaurant having had many first class meals at their sister restaurant, The Tilbury. My wife and I had roast beef and I reckon this was one of the best roast dinners I had eaten in a restaurant; up there with Simpson's. The meat was perfectly cooked, moist, tender and gristle free. The portions were very generous; so much so we had to share our beef with our (adult) children. The roast lamb ordered by the children looked similarly delicious. I have just one comment which would improve the experience. After speaking to the children after the meal about their lamb I was told that their meat was not hot; just warm, whereas the beef we had shared with them was just right. I can only assume that the lamb dinners had been plated first in the kitchen and had been left standing whilst the beef was plated. So I would suggest that before the food leaves the kitchen it is checked to be hot and served on hot plates. A relatively minor point and easy to implement. The dining room was atmospheric and the tables were placed a good distance apart so even though the restaurant seemed to be full it was not noisy.

Great restaurant; good menu and average prices. Delicious food and wonderful cocktails in the bar; the one with pink gin and prosecco is our favourite!

I went here years ago, probably 10 and was looking forward to coming back given the rave reviews on TripAdvisor. However as much as I want to give it 4 stars at least, I just can't. The service was fantastic, with the staff being very accommodating and generally pleasant. But it's just not a very inspiring place to be, it really didn't look like it had changed since I went all those years ago. No real atmosphere, yes it's an old coaching house/hotel - but it just needs something. As for the food, average - I went for a burger, not very exciting I know. It was just average - looked great as per the other photos on here but just wasn't nice.

The White Hart is a historic inn in Old Welwyn. The dining room has a huge fireplace and lots of character with the tables well spaced.

Staying here for the night so we thought we would try out the restaurant and see what it has to offer. Just had a meal here and it was beautiful! The service we received was perfect and was especially helped by a man called Adam who is a credit to the restaurant. The setting is really lovely with tables not being to close to each other so it wasn't too noisy or cramped, this meant I could really enjoy the company of my partner. For mains we both had the soft shell crab burger and I highly recommend trying! Also if you can try and leave room to try the desserts they are to die for! Thank you so much for an enjoyable evening and look forward to coming back in the future!

First for the good bits: the pub has a lot vintage charm and the welcome by staff was very friendly. On the plate, though, there was a lack of consistency in the quality of the ingredients used. Eggs, black pudding, mushrooms and especially the home cooked beans were excellent but the sausages and tomatoes were lacking in taste. I don’t think it was a proper butcher’s sausage. If it was, it really lacked seasoning. The tomato was barely red, therefore not ripe and didn’t have either sweetness or the right texture. The tea was also weak and although we ordered tea for two, we were served a small pot, enough for just a small cup and a half each. As the breakfast took a little while to come, we didn’t have any tea to drink with the food.
