Beautiful pub with excellent service! We were after a light lunch and they managed to squeeze us in despite the pub having two large parties and being very busy. The chicken wings were delicious! We also enjoyed the houmous, soup and fries. The pub has so much character and we were made to feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend!

Was extremely disappointed, we came for a meal for my sons 4th birthday. We were first notified that it was ‘pie night’ after our drink order had already been taken, this was not stated on the website beforehand. We do not like pie, however ordered anyway. Then to my horror I heard the chef swearing loudly (F’ing kids) about making my 2 children’s meals. They also overheard. My children are 5 and now 4, this is completely unacceptable. Despite this I felt extremely sorry for our server who seemed really lovely, she walked out of the kitchen with tears in her eyes. For this reason we left abruptly and had a far better experience at McDonald’s. So unless you like pie and chef’s swearing about your children I’d avoid.

What a breath of fresh air to walk in to this pub, greeted by such friendly staff especially the owners. The pub has a lovely atmosphere as well as lovely interior, nothing was to much trouble they even rearranged so they could fit us in thank you Nicky. I don’t normally order a roast lunch but this was lovely, especially the celeriac purée and roasted beetroot and a Yorkshire pud like I make myself delicious. I think this couple have ticked all the boxes for a good all round pub I wish it was our local. Running a pub is hard work I wish this couple great success, you deserve it . Visit this pub you will not be disappointed , I recommend you booking in advance as they get booked up. We will be revisit when back in the area 😊

Visited today for lunch with family who live locally and had the best Pub Sunday Roast ever! Lovely early 1700’s built pub, very comfortable with super friendly, knowledgeable staff. I had Squid for starters which had been cooked perfectly (none of that chewy rubbish) and Roast Beef for my main, well cooked, well seasoned and well presented. No sweet as I’d finished both courses and didn’t have any room but options looked delicious.

Disappointing on a number of levels. We went as a group of friends for Sunday lunch. Some of us had beef and some had the pork roast sunday lunch. We asked for extra vegetables, so ordered extra roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. We also asked for extra gravy, as we had been advised that the gravy pot that comes as standard was ‘thimble sized’. The extra veg that arrived was in very small portion sizes. The roast beef was lovely, the roast pork was rather fatty. No apple sauce served with the pork. Desserts - the cheesecake and choc mouse options were very foamy, without much substance, and we ordered a cheeseboard at a cost of £20, so expected a good amount of cheese - 3 small pieces of cheese on what was supposed to be a cheeseboard for two - it was honestly barely enough cheese for one person. We complained and more cheese was brought out, only to find out that we were charged extra for the addtional cheese delivered, without any advance warning. Finally - the ladies toilet - take a torch with you, as the lighting is very dim. Also no hot water in the toilets, (my husband said the same about the gents), which we found extraordinary, in the middle of COVID, when we are all being asked to wash our hands thoroughly at all times. We will not rush back - Sunday lunch for 5 of us, including 2 bottles of wine cost nearly £300. Very overpriced for small portions.

This is one of the most dog friendly pubs I’ve visited. We were given a table in the corner by the bar which was perfect as there was room for both dogs who were fussed over by the very friendly staff and fellow customers. The pub is nice and the staff are very good. The food was also good. However, there is no wine list and when we asked whether we might have a bottle to accompany our meal we were offered a rudimentary choice of Malbec, Rioja or Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine, as might have been expected was of very poor quality, but the price really left a bad taste. £29 for what should have been no more than £15 for such poor quality. A shame.

Can I just say I very rarely give 5 stars and I hope the pub doesn't feel bad about my score . I also want to say the food is excellent and my steak was cooked perfectly. There was just a couple of tiny things that took away the 5 stars. I wanted a real ale and as a pub they only had one real ale and although it was nice, sometimes its nice to have a choice. The menu said triple cooked chips. Sorry I am not sure they were, but they were nice and fresh The menu also said seasonal greens..... I guess carrots are seasonal. (This is me being picky). Finally steak knives.... I was told there was a steak knife on the table already. This wasn't the case and I am glad it was a nice steak as I would have struggled with the table knifeOn a positive note, the waiting team were excellent, very friendly and very active in serving us. The food was amazing and hot and clearly very fresh. I think it was probably the nicest t bone I have had. Starter was squid and again it was amazing. My wife couldn't speak highly enough of the pork belly. Overall a lovely place and we definitely want to come back. The feedback is merely my personal opinion. Thanks

The food at The White Hart is always absolutely delicious & beautifully prepared. There are lovely vegetarian choices & completely different from many menus. Some chefs seem to forget that vegetarians by definition, love vegetables but despite this some churn out pasta or a mushroom risotto with few vegetables. The chefs at The White Hart couldn’t be more different. Their vegetarian food is innovative & very tasty. They also keep the omnivores happy & have a good menu for them too. We are very glad that The White Hart has survived lockdown & is able to open for lunch & dinner. Well done chaps! Keep up the good work.

Not far where where we now live, although the bad weather did make the journey a bit trying, this is a quaint old pub from the early 18th century. A warm welcome when we arrived, we could have stayed in the bar (we were a little early) but chose to go straight to table. I have to say that I've never had roast beef as tender and tasty, nor roast potatoes so crisp and fluffy. Service was quick and efficient, all done with a smile. As I had a starter (Scotch Egg) I had no room for a sweet but what was coming out looked good. We'll be back.

Nice quality food, but pricey and small portions.I had the crab starter and was surprised it was so small and came with no bread or salad or other accompaniment, this followed by the sea bass which again was a small portion served with limited vegetables, and even the extra mash we ordered didn’t amount to much... the meal was quite pricey... all very tasty but feel a little short changed. It wasn’t the hearty pub grub we had hoped for.

We had sunday lunch and the first thing I have to say is that the roast beef was mouthwateringly good. Presentation was also good with well cooked and tasty veg and a very tasty, rich gravy. Other things were not so good. Two log burners were lit but it was still a little too chilly for us, especially my wife who was sat in a window seat. This resulted in our food going cold before we had finished it, which was a shame. The Spring Mess desert was essentially two scoops of coconut ice-cream with a few pieces of chopped fruit and some pieces of meringue and did not really come together. We felt it was a little disappointing and definitely overpriced at £7.50. Tea consisted of a teabag served in a cup of hot water. The spoon matched the cup and saucer but a teapot would have been preferable. Unfortunately, the beer cooler was broken so there was only one draught beer available or a poor selection of bottled lagers (one of which was non-alcoholic). I would have expected at least a couple of bottled ales. Overall, the quality of the beef just managed to save the situation but we are not sure we will rush back.

Alas, the chef at the White Hart tries too hard. He cooks well, but his dishes are much too complicated, with far too many ingredients. For instance, my coddled egg starter (which, incidentally, was cold when delivered) was accompanied by mushrooms, caviar, a sauce which I couldn't identify, and subsumed in a mountain of chef's micro leaves. My main course was no different. However, my main criticism of this ambitious country pub is the condition of the gent's loo. Access is via a wooden pallet surmounted by an old doormat and a piece of dirty carpet. The foyer, if one can call it that, is cluttered with discarded electrical equipment, a damaged metal high chair and various items of cleaning material. The stalls are grubby and ill lit by unshaded bulbs. A partially open door leads to the kitchen!I doubt whether this arrangement would pass any hygiene inspection in this country and, honestly, it is awful even by Third World standards.

The White Hart is under new ownership, with new menus, opening times, an evolving building & atmosphere. Warm personable service coupled with a tasty contemporary menu offered us surprise after surprise. The deconstructed Bakewell Tart being the highlight of the evening by a small margin over others. Yes there are things to improve on as the owners get the building straight & stamp their mark on service & food. However my 5 star is in recognition of a great evening in a pub restaurant which is still being developed & created. The building was delightfully quaint and the quirky toilets are definitely worth 'paying a visit' to. We glanced at the menu - it did seem a bit pricier than other local pubs and at first glance the fare was similar, but perhaps the way it was prepared and presented justified the extra cost. The coke we drank also seemed a little pricey. I wish the new owners well with their venture.

Dinner just a few days after new owners and chef taking over. They have made a very positive start with a friendly welcome and good service. The menu is relatively and sensibly short but with a good range. For starters we had the Potato Veloute, Gamebird Terrine and BBQ Beets followed by Sirloin Steaks and the Lamb Rump. All excellent and very well presented. There is a reasonable selection of wine but that is a legacy from the past and new suppliers may be in place very soon. One thing to hope for is that red wine can be served at a reasonable temperature; it's been an ongoing issue for some time. The pub however has three lovely open fires to keep you warm and add to the character of this lovely pub.

We had arranged to meet a couple of dear friends who we hadn't seen for a while and decided on the The White Hart a pud I had been frequenting on and off for the past 16 yrs or so. The arranged time of 7pm on a Friday evening was agreed and we all arrived as planed. People where eating and drinking as normal we too had a drink first and then went to order food at 7.30pm nothing too complicated as our friends had had a previous bad experience here a couple of months earlier but we all agreed to give them another try. I went to the bar to order 3 pizzas and was told by the completely embarrassed bar maid that the "chef" had told here there was no more food as he had to prep for a function the following evening!!!!! I could not believe what I was hearing a busy Friday night!! Suffice to say we will never return under the current management that is for sure. Luckily we were rescued by the brilliant landlady of the Crown at Gawcott Lisa just a couple of miles away and we can't thank her enough for all her efforts and food. I have friends who live in Preston Bissett and the feed back I here is this is only a small matter in relation to the seemingly incompitant managementship of this once fabulous little pub. Sorry Tim (landlord). PS it was freezing in there too no point in having fires if they are not lit old bean

Walked over to Preston Bissett for Sunday lunch. The White Hart has been refurbished since our last visit and it has been done well. The staff were pleasant and the food was good, hot and plenty of it. Well worth a visit and we will be visiting again soon.

Having had lunch here a couple of times before with a friend I've tried to come back here for ages but it was either full booked or closed so quite glad we managed this time. I wanted to try the Pizta (Napolitana, my favourite) and I once again have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. What a delicious Pizza, didn't know what to expect but I loved it, and having grown up in Europe with propper Italian Pizza all around me it takes a lot for me to be happy with the Pizzas over here. I'll return for sure, with ny equally spoiled Pizza kids. Fantastic

We picked this venue at random out of Trip Advisor based on its location. The Sunday lunch was very good, but the room temperature was cold, even with three open fires, and the rear exterior had the feel of a builder's yard. Work in progress but give it a go.

We visited today and can quite honestly say it was the best Sunday roast I have ever eaten out. Usually I won't go out for Sunday lunch as I am always disappointed and think I could cook better myself but not today. There were clean plates all round and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Delicious meats, great selection of veg and amazing gravy. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff who were attentive without being over the top. The open fires were great and kept us nice and warm and the pub had a really lovely atmosphere. We will be returning soon!

Small but popular village pub restaurant in a beautiful location. Friendly service and excellent cuisine. The owner Tim was very tentative and nothing was a problem. I recommend the beef on the menu!

Stopped in here for a late Sunday lunch with my family, a cold day outside but wonderful welcoming fires at the ends of the pub were lovely though it would have been warmer if the radiators had been working. However I couldn't argue with the warm welcome, staff and service were great, we did not have starters or puddings but the roast was lovely, so was the wine and we were so pleased we stopped. A good selection of starters, only roasts for main (£12- £14) with a veggie option, pudding selection looked good too.

My wife and daughter and I wanted to try the White Hart for a Sunday lunch, I have been in there before for a quiet drink with a friend and was impressed by the very good atmosphere, I live locally and my family were born and bred in the village. the meal was very dissapointing, I had the pigeon for starter and pork Belly roast for main, I found that the main was very sweet for my liking, even the vegetables were sweet and not to my liking , the desert was an over cooked Brownie with ice cream, never mind the wine was good, sorry White Hart I did not like the meal. I did not say anything at the time as there was a few people in the resturant, I will try it again but I will have something different. The prices were not bad either. The Pub is nice and friendly, with good staff, so sorry White Hart.

The quaintest little place stuck down the end of a road where you'd never expect to find it, The White Hart was a surprising yet delightful experience from start to finish. My husband had wood pigeon to start and enjoyed every bite. My crab fritters were fresh and lovely. My husband struggled to finish his game pie, which he termed 'hearty' in the 'winter warmer' sense - it consisted of venison, rabbit and pheasant. I had the chicken and lamb kebab and it was delicious and tender. The wine was excellent, the character charming, and the service faultless. Plus, very reasonably priced for such a delicious meal! We'll definitely be going back, and soon!

We booked a table for Sunday lunch having heard via word of mouth how good it was. The roast dinner did not disappoint however the service was slow and a little chaotic. To be fair one of the 3 front of house staff was very new and tried her best to be helpful and friendly. However the guy who appeared to be the owner/manager disappeared into the kitchen for long spells and didn't seem to engage with customers. The young waiter was friendly but spent a lot of time chatting to regulars in the pub area. There seemed to be confusion over roles so staff would get tied up serving pints leaving restaurant guests waiting to order. This is an old pub which appears stripped back to original timber features but it's not clear whether it's under renovation or meant to be like that. The area we were sat in was very cold even though there were radiators nearby but these weren't on. This seemed strange as it was a very cold day outside and the old structure of the building didn't make for great insulation. There are fireplaces at two ends of the pub but they do not heat the whole building. The food was excellent and we were really full after a tasty roast dinner and homemade dessert. I review places on food quality, service and atmosphere and I think the White Hart needs to do a bit of work on the latter two areas.

Wow what can I say. We went here last night for a meal, and walking through the door we were greeted by two lovely roaring fires, one each end of the pub . I can only say that I had one of the best meals I have ever eaten so credit to the chef thank you sir!. Tim the owner came and spoke to us and made us feel very welcome. I was so impressed with the food and ambience of this this pub we will definitely go again very soon. I recommend you book as it fills up quite quickly. Easy to do on line via their website or you can call .

Celebrating a birthday two days before Christmas is always tricky, believe it or not. However my wife was lucky enough to have booked the White Hart. The service was impeccable the staff very polite. But the highlight ;by a short head over the excellent ale , was the food. At the last minute we opted for the Christmas menu, something I normally avoid. However on this occasion the normal Christmas fare had the hallmarks of fine dining. Cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Will I be going back? Not half.

10 of us went to the White Hart for our work Christmas lunch. The food was excellent and the service too. We had all chosen different meals and they all arrived together on piping hot plates. Altogether a great experience.

We visited the White Hart today for Sunday lunch. We were slightly apprehensive when we pulled into the car park as the outside space is best described as "under construction"! But don't let this put you off! Inside there are cozy log fires and relaxed dining with helpful and friendly staff. The roast dinner was huge, with 5 or 6 different veg, the tastiest carrots ever and lovely tender meat! A choice of 3 meats with children's portions, giant Yorkshire puddings and crisp crackling!! Starters and puddings were also great! Fab value for money!! Well worth a trip for a home cooked family roast!

Haven't been here for many years but was recommended yesterday and went for dinner same night. We ate early so not busy at this time but most tables were reserved. Service was good and food was very good - interesting menu that was well cooked and presented with variety of colour, texture, taste and shape on every plate. Excellent value. We will return.

We went here for a family Sunday lunch. The pub is undergoing a complete renovation and it looks like it will be a stunning place. Don't let the ongoing work put you off though, as it's a great bar and restaurant with tons of style. The food was superb, with Sunday lunch being a short menu of roast pork, chicken or beef. We had the beef and the pork and both were outstanding. Prices were very reasonable, service friendly and efficient. All in all, a very good find and we will definitely return.

Order 50 mins late (so far) still not arrived. Shop don’t answer the phone and when they do, they say they don’t know where the food is. It’s with the driver. The number on deliveroo is for an old employee who no longer works at the shop! Will never use them again and suggest no one else does!
