Popped in for dinner after a VERY long drive from Yorkshire - we’d booked the latest table possible, and were pleased to find the table set and reserved for us - with a jug of water. Our little dog was welcomed and sat without fuss as we enjoyed very tasty fish, chips and peas - the batter was as light as a feather and the portions were huge. We found the staff were spot on - attentive, chatty and polite. A lovely start to a short break - would certainly recommend.

We actually ate in the Lindsay room at this venue . Was Mothers day & thought I would try this venue for my daughter & myself as a special treat. Was quite surprised at the limited menu but thought at least what is offered will be cooked well !!!!!! Very disappointed with the food The spicy vegetable soup was liquidised mainly carrots with chilli flakes & a small portion of stale bread. Roast beef was fatty & chewy & never had skin on new potatoes as roast potatoes ever. The portion of veg was pathetic. Will stick with the local golf club in future who have a chef/cook that know how to cook.

Extremely average food. A la carte dishes e.g mussels was fine. 2 of us had Roast menu which was disappointing beginning to end- tough beef and uncooked crumble. Service was lovely and we had a quiet table but that doesn't offset the food.

We booked an early meal at 5:30 due to travel tiredness. Our servers were Mark and Becca and they were absolutely delightful. It was Steak Night - 2 courses for the normal price of a steak. We ordered our steaks medium rare and weren’t disappointed in the cooking. The quality of the rib eye and consistency of the pepper sauce could have been better - more home than restaurant standard but acceptable for the price and the place. We found the bistro and the atmosphere nothing special, the decor rather corporate - the enjoyable part of our meal was the interaction with the two servers hence they are the 5⭐️ part of the review together with the ease of booking online in advance and also being dog friendly.

We visited for dinner since we were staying on the estate. I had the beef fillet stroganoff, the other family members got sirloin steak with chips and fish with chips, for dessert I got the Robert the Bruce shortbread sandwich which was a really nice refreshing change. All food was great, service was great as well. Highly recommend popping in for food, drink or even just a coffee.

The vegetarian daal was really outstanding. Breakfast on our final morning was also lovely. We stayed at Kilconquhar for a long weekend celebrating my son's birthday and decided to book dinner for 7.30pm on the Friday night for 6 adults, and 3 children. This was booked well in advance given our party size and knowing current COVID restrictions. The restaurant has an a la carte menu, a takeaway menu, and a breakfast menu. On arriving at the estate we checked with them if they also had a kids menu, and if we were able to order from the takeaway menu that night too if someone didn't like something on the a la carte. Sadly, this was greeted with an abrupt and rude response telling us that they were only doing a la carte that night and not takeaway as they were very busy. This didn't fill us with confidence for our dinner later that night and it proved to be right. Following an initial call on arrival to confirm our booking and to be told rather sharply "do NOT arrive early", we arrived just after 7.30pm where we were told to stand and wait outside as they hadn't set our table. 10mins later we were ushered in with very bad grace to then sit and wait for a further 10 mins for someone to come over and take our order without so much as an apology for the delay. Having ordered just before 8pm we waited, and waited, and waited, until at 8.45pm my wife asked where our food was, only to be told it was being plated up. A further 10mins passed before our meals arrived. I could understand the delay if we all ordered different things, but four of us had fish and chips, three had steak, and one just had chips. While the fish and chips were delicious, the steaks, at £23.95 a portion were scandalously priced for what we got. The menu says min 8oz, but these looked lucky to be anywhere near that, alongside some button mushrooms, and a vine of cherry tomatoes that looked dumped on the plate. Beyond that, what they don't mention is there is a £3 supplement for the steak sauce, something mentioned nowhere on the menu. The sauce was provided in what could only be best descibed as something the size of an eggcup. At almost £30 a head I would steer clear of it. The delay, the poor service, and the laughable price for the steaks put a complete dampner on my son's birthday meal and we couldn't get out of the restaurant quick enough. There was a token shrug of the shoulders and some half hearted excuse from the head waiter that they were "really busy tonight" but that shouldn't excuse shoddy service, lengthy delays of almost an hour for food, and staff who looked like they couldn't be bothered serving us. To top it all off, the meal for us all came to just under £200 for one course with a drink each. Kilconquhar Estate is great, but its restaurant? Steer clear and eat somewhere else.

Visited Kilconquhar on a recent visit to Fife and enjoyed dinner in the Bistro - Staff were friendly and service was pretty quick but the food just wasn't as good as I would have expected for the price. Minestrone soup was tasteless, and although the steak was nice the majority of our group all had their steaks overcooked (those who asked for medium-rare got medium, and those who wanted medium had their steaks well done). It also has a bit of a cafe/ school canteen feel to it despite being a higher end restaurant - Could do with a bit of a renovation.

My siblings and our partners went out for dinner on Monday night to the white cockade. It was a celebration that we were all looking forward to as our family visited the estate every year when we were growing up and we were returning as adults for the first time in ten years. We were all looking forward to dining here as we did as children and there was a mixture of pros and cons to our evening. First of all we reserved our table for 6:45pm and arrived promptly to be greeted and led to our table by a very polite young waiter. Once we were seated an older waiter came over and asked to confirm the name and booking which was unusual as we had already confirmed our booking with the young waiter. It was a full restaurant when we arrived so we acknowledged that the staff were busy and there would be a slight wait for drinks and food orders, which we didn’t mind. The young waiter was lovely and tried to serve us as quickly as possible. The food was lovely and arrived quickly which was a massive pro. However, after our starters we asked to order more drinks with the older waiter, which was met with a snappy reply saying that he will clear our starters, serve our mains and then get our drinks orders if he had time. This comment was said in such a tone that several of the party described it as being “told off”. Over the night most times he came over it felt like he was being slightly rude. One could put this down to stress due to the restaurant being busy however as we heard how he interacted with other tables, chatting away to them and asking questions about their holiday, we figured that it was because we were a group of young adults as this was the only difference between us and the other customers in the restaurant. Overall we had a good experience as the food was lovely and the young waiter was more than accommodating despite being busy however there was a slight dampener in the evening due to the feeling of being treated differently as we weren’t the desired demographic.

Just don’t go there. It’s average food at best and the service from the older waiter is terrible. He has no idea what good service is. It doesn’t matter who does what job as long as it’s getting done. Dessert had squirts cream on it and I think that says it all about the food. £6.95 for a dessert with squirty cream on it. Never again. I’ve heard there is a nice restaurant in the near by village.

Twice in the last week we visited old friends who have a villa on the estate. On the first occasion we had carry out fish suppers which were fine apart from the batter which was heavy and overdone. On the second occasion we had lunch in the Bistro which again was fine. However the young lady serving us had to be prompted to bring the bread to accompany tasty Cullen Skink soup. Then she had to be promoted to bring the butter. The food was of a high quality but our eating experience was marred by the inexperience in proper service of the young waitress.

We booked here on a Weds night and were asked to come at a later time than we requested as they were busy. When we arrived the place was almost empty and no more than 5 tables were occupied all evening. There were dead daffodils in a vase on the bar. A napkin lay on the floor near the door all evening. The young waiter was pleasant and willing but couldn’t answer questions about the food and clearly had little training. The food was indifferent. By the end of the meal lots of dirty glasses cleared from tables had accumulated on the bar as no-one had found time to clean them. The place needs someone in charge with attention to detail. This is not good enough for a place like Kilconqhar.

I booked a table for 10 as part of a ladies weekend. The meal was to be a celebration of my daughter's pending wedding. On arrival a very lovely waitress took our drinks order. We then ordered starter and main. My mussels starter was awful - lacking in flavour, rubbery mussels, watery sauce but at this early stage I decided that it was just a bad choice. The main arrived - my daughter's requested medium steak was frazzled . My short ribs were inedible - I could neither cut it or eat it. When some of the main course plates were cleared (not all - the dirty plates remained on the table for a long time) the very nice waitress asked if everything had been ok and I explained re our awful meals. She reported this back to the kitchen and then the fun began. A waiter came and advised that the short ribs were perfectly cooked for 3 hours and that the steak was perfectly cooked also. I advised again that both meals were inedible and that on top of that we were sitting at a half cleared table and that after 90 mins in their restaurant we had only had our drinks order taken once. He accused me of not saying anything about a bad meal when he had asked if it was oK and I said that we hadn't been asked. He said we should have been listening when he was speaking at the FAR end of the table. He left and we waited another half hour before the plates were cleared. Still no drinks order was taken and we weren't offered puddings. The waiter then came back and advised that actually this was a new menu and that the short ribs maybe hadn't been very good and we found out that this admission was only due to the fact that another table had returned the same meal. Still no drinks order taken and still no dessert order taken. Lovely waitress apologised (she was clearly run off her feet) and suggested that maybe I would like to speak with the chef manager. I said yes and she asked me to wait at the kitchen door. Which I did. For a while. No-one appeared and the previous waiter( the one who told us that there was nothing wrong with our meals) appeared to suggest that I take a seat at the table closest to the kitchen door. Which I did. I sat for a while feeling very uncomfortable and then lovely waitress arrived to tell me that the chef manager had left (my interpretation is that he ran away). Returned to the table(now fondly described as the naughty corner by the rest of my party) to the hilarity of other guests and then sat down again. Waiter then came over and apologised for his team letting us down and he advised that he would be deducting the cost of the 2 meals plus puddings off our bill. By this stage we had lost the will to live and really thought that we were on candid camera. Awful service. Waiter attempting to fob us off with nonsense. Chef manager who didn't have the guts to speak with us. Waitress who did her very best but was clearly run off her feet. Dirty table. Not sure who the owner of the white cockade bistro is but s/he needs to seriously get a grip. Or maybe s/he thinks that he's got a captive audience who will eat/drink there regardless. Maybe s/he doesn't need the business.

We were given the menu with no information only after choosing told that dish is out of stock. Order taken then chef appeared sorry no Tbone left. Food appeared very quickly which made us wonder about its freshness. Strogonoff bland, seafood platter OK but you can't do a lot wrong when you just plate up cold seafood. Potatoes clearly cooked well in advance and heated up had definite pre cooked taste. When we commented just told 'Sure they were cooked today". We've been here three times recently. On each occasion we deliberately chose different meals. We could find no fault with anything we ordered. Excellent complimentary breads and spreads are served with every meal. No need to ask. The quality of all of our food was excellent and the quantity was well above average too. We were impressed with our waiter/barman. His name is Brian. Although we said we'd be perfectly comfortable at our table in the bar area he insisted that he had laid out a table for us in the dining area. We were very pleased we accepted his advice and were shown to a table for two that wasn't overlooked by other diners. I'm sure we're not the only people who dislike trying to avoid eye contact with diners at adjacent tables in restaurants. It was a lovely peaceful place to enjoy a leisurely meal. It's nice to get a bit of peace and quiet. That's becoming a rare commodity these days. We will be back there and are confident our meals will not disappoint us in any way.

Tasty.... My friend and I visited here fir the 1st time. Very pleasant surroundings, equally pleasant staff. We sat through the back which was very nice. The coffee was really nice but the Rhubarb Loaf.....well!! It was amazing! I'll definitely be going again

Dropped in for a cupcake and latte .Nice friendly girl behind the counter . Lovely selection of cakes and scones . The latte was really good and I would certainly try the cupcakes again . The cafe also has a site on Facebook
