The White Bear in Wiltshire

If I could give the staff 6 stars for service here I would. We had a lovely family Sunday lunch and everyone was happy to se us and made us feel welcome. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

This has always been the best place in town, warm and cosy, low ceilings and a relaxing atmosphere. We've seen landlords come and go over nearly 30 years but the current couple who have run it for six years have this place ticking like clockwork with superb food and very well kept cask ales, of which there are usually six to choose from. It's dog friendly and very human friendly. Staff are great, polite, friendly and funny. Long may Mark and Georgie continue to run the place.

Despite being in down trodden Devizes this pub is worth a visit

Georgie and Mark are genuius! Mark is a master in the kitchen and how lovely to meet someone with such passion and skill and pure talent, lunch was faultless! A warm welcoming atmosphere, lovely decor and ever changing menu

Dating back to the 16th century this cozy pub has a great and friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

Lovely staff. Felt very welcome ... good mix of craft ales , both local and foreign ( larger). Would love a proper Guinness. Definitely one of the best pubs in Devizes.

Here is a complete gem for those wanting to stay in an ancient pub in a town centre with wiggley woodwork, a great bar, good solid food and a warm welcome. This is not five star International hotel accommodation, but it is clean, warm and when everybody has left the pub it is quiet. . Double glazing keeps out the traffic noise, and a good central heating system keeps it warm in winter. The food is pretty good too. I recommend the beef dripping burger ! 👍

First time here, was a Wednesday night so was not too busy, the young lady behind the bar as lovely, atmosphere was very friendly. Will go again.

Gorgeous hustoric pub in the heart of Devizes. Friendly, helpful staff. Quality ale, craft beer and cider. Cask and keg offerings as well as Wadworth's products. Creative menu - enjoyed the Persian Love Cake.

Recent makeover means that this is now a proper cosy English pub. Log burner, decent local ales and plenty of seating crammed in to provide atmosphere. Just the job. Very much enjoyed my recent visits.

Popped in for a couple of drinks after hearing good things since the new landlord/lady took it on. Had a warm welcome on arriving, very good choice of well kept Real ales poured in a handled glass. The fire was on and was a great warm (not too hot) atmosphere with background music that was just the right volume. The choice of Beers upcoming seem like they were well chosen, a future visit it definitely on the cards.

Stayed in the white bear for 9 nights. Extremely comfortable. Landlord and landlady made us feel extremely welcome. Lovely atmosphere in the pub just like a pub should be with great guest ales and a log fire and a spooky haunted ghost story that went with it. Although I didn't eat here the food looked and smelled delicious. Would definitely stay again.

Visited spontaneously on Bank Holiday Sunday, expecting it may be busy, but found there was space for us- a group of 5. Very attentive staff, a good range of roasts, including a delicious vegetarian option. The vegetables alongside the roast were beautifully cooked and delicious. Offered children's portions of roast. Highly recommended you are looking for a Sunday roast.

Really good staff. Fresh and polite. Loved the food. Been a while since I was there. Really great spruced up place. Didn't like the pork belly...an American junk food item... why do we suddenly have it here? The last thing for a Sunday lunch in England!

The landlord and landlord lady was so helpful they could do no more than help you and the bar staff were all lovely atmosphere was very nice it could do with a bit more TLC but it work in progress 3 + plus stars

First visit as I had read about this pub on line. A lovely old style Britshpub with great beer, very friendly staff and good food. What else could you ask for?

Amazing. We dont know Devizes so wandered around looking for a nice looking place. We stumbled across the White Bear and it was amazing. Specialised bangers and mash with about 6 choices of mash and toppings like crispy onions or parsnips. No idea if deserts were on offer as we were to full to attempt. Staff AMAZING and obviously very passionate about theorpub, the specialised ales on offer etc. We will deffo be returning.

Just had an amazing Sunday lunch. The roast beef was beautifully cooked, it just melted in the mouth. Truly awesome service, fabulous atmosphere, always a wonderful welcome. This is the only place to come to for great food. The prices are incredible, especially when the quality is so high. I can't recommend highly enough, if you can manage a dessert then try the sumptuously incredible Banoffee pie, it's totally to die for.

Visited on a Thursday, good choice of ales and good service. Even had handled glasses for those who prefer it, like me.

We went to the White Bear for our work Christmas meal. The evening started with a warm friendly welcome. We were seated in the back room which looked really festive.The food was great, lots of it. The staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend and will definitely go back.

For me, you can usually tell the sort of pub it is by the welcome - or lack of it - you receive on approaching the bar. Well, there was no question about The White Bear! The owner, Georgina, was warm, friendly, cheery and efficient. We took our table and she explained the lunch options available in a very smiley way. She was fronting the place on her own but nothing was too much trouble. The food arrived promptly and was genuinely excellent. Her partner Marc is the chef and he produced some of the very best pub/hotel food I've ever had. In my case an incomparable cauliflower soup finished with truffle oil followed by excellent arancini. All our food was obviously made from fresh and quality ingredients. Generous portions and really well-presented too. The beer was first-class and it's pretty evident this young couple really care about the hospitality business. That makes a refreshing change. All I can add is it's the kind of place you'd be so pinching-yourself happy to have as your local. I only wish it was mine! Highly recommended and they have rooms too.

Fantastic service from start to finish. Stayed in a double room with our doggo, nicely furnished, clean and tidy with a nice variety on the tea tray. Spent the evening in the pub, staff were lovely! Food was outstanding! Could have stayed there for longer as made to feel very welcome. Plenty of parking nearby to the pub so don't be put off by no onsight parking. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Really lovely stay can't wait to return!

Georgie, Marc and Co are always so friendly. We often have a weekday lunch, especially enjoying their pulled meats with own blend of spices, the burgers are good, & the sea bass burger with samphire I had recently was fabulous.

First time in a pub since lockdown started, can't say I like the price of a pint of cider but it was very refreshing....

Popped in for a quick lunch on first visit to Devizes, good choice. Friendly barman and good beer and wine. Sandwiches were first rate made by staff that care about their food, topside(?) beef thick, tender and cooked on site with homemade horseradish and nice to see the chef preparing his own goujons for the fish finger sandwich. Highly recommended, thanks guys.

We recently had a fantastic stay at The White Bear, Devizes. From the moment we arrived (after a long cycle from Reading) Mark and Georgie were so welcoming and helpful. They gave us a secure place to store our bikes, then showed us around, made us feel at home, and got us a drink. The rooms very perfectly clean and comfortable, with a nice big double bed and powerful warm shower. The bar downstairs was stocked with a wide selection of drinks, and was set up to be COVID safe and social distancing was in place. We all had a full English breakfast in the morning which really hit the spot! We chose this venue as we were doing the Kennet & Avon Canal ride from Reading to Bristol. Devizes was our stop over point. The White Bear was a perfect location, right in the centre of town but just a couple of minutes off the Canal path. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone else doing the ride. Mark and Georgie were brilliant hosts and we will certainly be staying again in the future.

A friend and I went out for dinner here this evening, it was lovely, We were welcomed by all the staff and served by Alexandra who was really nice, she chatted to us and had a laugh and a joke. We had the most amazing food, really delicious! And lots of gin! Lovely old pub, nice and clean, plenty of space to social distance. Perfect 👌
