The White Bear in Lambeth

Came in for a late dinner, was warned of the time service shut multiple times to make sure we could get our orders in on time. Decor and atmosphere was lovely. Wine list was extensive and had great choices. We got quite a few small dishes between us and were all very tasty. Would definitely recommend!

We had a wonderful evening with great service from Reece:cheerful, helpful and aware. Fish and chips delicious as was the beef pie. Fantastic ambience. This South African had a memorable experience.

Superb sir down Sunday roast at this very nice pub/restaurant. Had the roast beef with all the fixings. Just a 3 minute walk from Kennington tube.

Had a fabulous Sunday Roast here on the first really warm Sunday of the year - we were able to sit outside in the pretty courtyard garden. Staff were really friendly, service was excellent and the cauliflower cheese was to die for. To top it all off, our cavalier kc pooch, Harvey, posed nicely for a pup of the day photo. He loved all the attention too :)

The pub is very nice, we arrived a little late and some dishes were finished but the waiter, Mow, was kind in finding us alternatives. The suggested beers are excellent!

Every time we are in London this pub is in our list. Really lovely athmosphere, I love that how people are so immediate. Staff is helpful and polite . Food is lovely british food. This time only pity was , they didn"t have double chocolate stout.(My favourite even i don"t like Beer)

Excellent food. We ordered second helping of the the mushroom focacia starter and recommend the venison wellington too. We alwaya get top notch service by firendly and attentive Adrian. The eclectic crowd makes great atmosphere too.

Was last in Kennington 50 years ago. Really liked this pub made very welcome, great Youngs original and the sausage and mash was excellent. Will get back sometime to see the theatre upstairs

First time at The White Bear and it was amazing! The staff were so lovely and knowledgeable and made us feel so welcome. We visited a few weeks back! A special shout out to Ren who was SO LOVELY. She complimented me, served us super quickly and with a smile and overall made the visit an absolute joy 🫶🏻

Had a couple of pints and a burger before seeing a play upstairs. Discount for food with a theatre ticket which was a bonus. Food was great, staff are lovely, I enjoyed my time here and look forward to coming back.

Another excellent meal at the White Bear. The manager worked magic to slot my guest and I in early. I felt privileged to test try the superb Beef Bourginon with mash potatoes all washed down with a glass of Gavi

I used to live round here a year ago and loved this pub, came in on the off chance I was passing one day. 2 Guinness for £15 is an absolute joke. All tables “reserved” for fake people. I just sat down and not one person who has supposedly booked a table arrived. Won’t be returning.

Soy un lugareño, y me encantaba este pub - el gran ambiente y el increíble interior. Pero después de estar fuera de Londres unos meses, volví a mi querido pub, y no entiendo qué pasó con la cocina. La comida de hoy no era genial en absoluto. Mi plato favorito “queso comino” definitivamente necesita una renovación, pero la calidad ha bajado mucho. No es cursi, ni cremoso, está tan vacío por dentro, pero tenía mucho pan, y sin embargo, ¿está cobrando 20 libras por el pan? Eso es inaceptable. El pescado con patatas fritas estaba bien, y el filete no era nada especial. Pero el postre — crumble de manzana era terrible ( y esto es lo que me hace escribir esta crítica ) Tenía la textura de la comida para bebés y un poco de crumble en la parte superior , y el pudín estaba mal cocido. Sé que es el pub - pero por favor mejorar su menú de comida. La señora que nos trajo comida, ella era encantadora y amable.

The range of beers is quite wide, especially pleased with the choice of craft beers. The service was unobtrusive, the waiter was polite and ready to advise on beer. The prices, in my opinion, are a little too high, especially for snacks. We took cheese sticks – ordinary, nothing special, but the price bites. Overall, the place is not bad, but it could be better. I recommend it for craft beer lovers who are willing to pay a little more.

I’m a local, and I used to love this pub —the great atmosphere and the amazing interior . But after being away from London for a few months, I came back to my beloved pub, and I don’t understand what happened to the kitchen. The food today was not great . My favourite dish “ cumember cheese “ definitely needs a revamp, but the quality has dropped so much. It’s not cheesy, not creamy it’s so empty inside but had a lot of bread , and yet you’re charging £20 for bread? That’s unacceptable. The fish and chips was okay, and the steak was nothing special. But the dessert—apple crumble was terrible . It had the texture of baby food and a bit of crumble in the top , and the pudding was undercooked. I know it’s the pub - but come on The lady Who brought us food, she was lovely and friendly.

Great staff good food what more to say parking is a pain

I have always loved this pub for the nice atmosphere and great food, but after visiting this weekend I just want to emphasise how amazing the service was! All the staff were so so friendly and attentive, they made our visit really enjoyable and are a big part of the reason myself and my family will be returning!

As a local, I might be biased but this is one of my top favourite pubs and I always invite friend over to experience its amazing atmosphere! It's clean, friendly, pets friendly, with great menu and staff, beautiful garden and space at the front to enjoy the sunny days.

I met a friend for lunch on Saturday. The pub is beautiful and historic. Our meals were excellent- the chicken escalope and burger - and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere, beautifully clean, excellent food and very good value for money. I am only giving 4 stars because of the ladies toilet. The cubicles are clean and spacious, but all the doors open inwards making it really hard to get in and close the door without giving yourself a mastectomy.

Hadn't been here for years (like, since the late 70s early 80s), when it was the friendliest of the south London gay pubs. Today I went for lunch with a friend. The food was amazing, the staff were so friendly. It was really wonderful experience. I'm only adding our starters' photo because my photo of our mains show how inept I am at taking photos of food 😂 It's still one of the friendliest places I know. I'll be back 💕

Emailed 48 hrs ago enquiring about the menu. No reply. Website booking system is terrible. Won't be coming. Just lost a possible lunch booking of 20.

Typical neighborhood pub, dog friendly (the attention to the well-being of dogs is much appreciated), and which really serves excellent beers. The Sunday roast is very generous and interesting, although it could be a little tastier and arrive at the table warmer, rather than lukewarm. Ditto for the pub room: if it were a little more heated it wouldn't be bad, especially for those eating. Fast service even if a little "vanished". Overall a good structure, which could make a "leap in quality" with a little more attention.

We had a delightful time with my friends on Sunday (a party of 8). The staff went the extra mile to get us a nice table and make us feel comfortable. Food was delicious, couldn't recommend the roast more!

Went there for Burns Night. Fantastic food, cocktails and entertainment. Staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Service was flawless.

Went for the 3 course January menu. We were the only people in the restaurant as it was a quiet Tuesday. The barman who served us and also brought us our food was very friendly and very efficient. The food itself was wonderful and I particularly enjoyed watching the chef and kitchen staff preparing everything from scratch. This was first class food at a very reasonable price. I had been at Christmas and will certainly return. It's a gem of a place!

Beautifully decorated, enigmatic ambience, perfect noise levels. My only tiny criticism is that I would have preferred the girl who served us our food to have had her very lovely long hair tied up and away from what she was carrying.

Excellent meal for a party of 6. The food was super and the service extremely friendly and helpful - must be one of the few restaurants/pubs that manage to keep the same lovely staff. Highly recommend The White Bear.

A truly beautiful pub with all the hallmarks of an old pub that belongs in a small affluent town in the country this is a real gem of a spot. A lovely fire in the winter, plenty of tables and seating, and a wall of fame showing off the staff's favourite local dogs - all excellent. Perhaps a touch on the pricier end of things (pint of Aspalls £6.95) but nothing out of the norm, this is definitely worth a visit. Haven't tried the restaurant in the back but it certainly looks and smells very good.

Perfect Sunday lunch as ever, used to live around the corner so this lovely pub was my local so it was nice to visit for the first Sunday lunch for months and months and as ever it did not disappoint. You know you are in a great pub when there are still staff there from your first visit over six years ago. Great atmosphere, dog friendly, child friendly, family friendly and fabulous food and drink 😊

Have just enjoyed a wonderful Sunday evening dinner at the White Bear. Sakiv the restaurant maître d’ made my friend and I very welcome and managed our table to perfection. First class food and atmosphere too. A local gem.

I feel we had an unfortunate night there, as the atmosphere in the pub was good, the interior well turned out and the service friendly. However the quality of the food was just really disappointing, in relation to the prices and the expectations we had given the otherwise nice ambience. The croquettes were not seasoned well, and the houmous grainy with dried out vegetables. It was also taken away half eaten, without giving us the chance to keep it. The sausage and mash looked nice, but the sausages were too soft and the mash overly sweet. Mixed with gravy it just didn't really work, and tasted like lots of clashing flavours with a single soft mushy texture. The chicken schnitzel was alright, just again under seasoned and served with a fried egg. The greens we'd ordered to go with the main came with the starters and we're taken away before the main came. It's odd, as we could otherwise see happy faces at the other tables so I wouldn't write it off but if there is a next time we'd order the roasts which seem to be more popular.

First visit to White Bear with 3 friends and afraid I wasn't hugely impressed. We were going to the theatre performance on a Saturday night and so were a bit tight for time. We were seated at 6.15pm in the corner at the back of the restaurant which was fine but I actually had to stand up and wave my arms in order to attract attention for us to order our food, even though there were at least four members of staff around the floor at that time. No-one was looking around to be alert to diners, but other than that service was pleasant and friendly. We weren't told that one of the dishes on the menu was "off" until after we had ordered it, and when we ordered a second bottle of wine we weren't able to have the same as the first as that had also run out. The chicken escalope was quite dry with a pitiful side of two small strands of tenderstem broccoli. Just a bit disappointing.

Probably the best option for your local go to Pub with decent price and top notch food. Not to mention the amazing design, atmosphere and design of the pub just gives you that ‘homey’ and ‘cozy’ feeling. Don’t be eluded by their food portion size, as the menu itself is amazing 👍! P.S: My only complaint is that their bike racks are not very practical. I mean I do appreciate a pub that is at least providing a rack to begin with, but Its just awkwardly positioned and not very practical to make use of it.

We had a delicious meal in a cozy pub near our holiday apartment. You can go to the center section without a reservation, but you will have to place your order at the bar yourself. So booking is easier. For the rest an absolute recommendation.

I visited this pub with my friend yesterday and it was great. Amazing service, super friendly staff and an overall good vibe. I will definitely recommend.

I thought that the food was very good but my starter - Ox cheek crockettes - could have had a few green salad leaves, or something - to bring a little colour. My Main course was very nice. The fruit crumble dessert was very sweet. A little too much for my liking. My wife would have liked some more green vegetables with her mains. Overall we enjoyed our meal.

The venison Wellington was splendid! In fact everything was delicious…curried parsnip soup, veggie burger, steak and ale pie. All great. And dessert apple crumble & custard - exactly the way it should be. Also very good affordable wine list, cozy and lovely decor. Highly highly recommend.

Went there for lunch on a Saturday before Christmas. There was a big party in part of the restaurant and only one waiter so although we were sat in the restaurant we had to order from the bar. I was half expecting to have to collect our food from the kitchen. It was nice food but honestly service is part of a restaurant experience so no tips for you. 👎

Pub / Theatre combo in fine location. Top play - the Last Days of Liz Truss. Excellent one woman performance of a crimally shite comedy PM. Good price too. Excellent atmosphere in pub despite being told several times that the table we were on was booked for an hour ahead. Calm down guys.

visited yesterday ordered scotch egg which they were out of , only wanted a snack so decided to share a scampi starter , appreciate it was a starter , but had 5 bits of squashed scampi so heavily breadcrumbed that we could not even taste the scampi , the breadcrumbs we’re a nice flavour but it was more like eating toast ? I have never had flat scampi before and we were not sure it was scampi , we should have said something at the time but barman was so friendly it seemed churlish , it just a warning what to expect , atmosphere was lovely

We had a a group booking for 14 people for a Sunday roast and everything was fantastic. Booking the table was easy, the atmosphere was great and the food was not only delicious, but came out quite quickly given the size of our booking. Suzza who served us was very friendly and did a great job.

Had the bestest time at the White Bear! We threw a large Christmas party here and the night was perfect. The food was prompt but most importantly, delicious. The staff were so lovely and friendly. Defo recommend for both hospitality and food quality. Thanks for having us!

We booked The White Bear for some Christmas drinks after work. Every member of staff was fantastically welcoming and helpful all the way through the process and the room was arranged really well for us. We had a great evening wishing in the Christmas period with colleagues.

We recently had our Xmas party here and have to say the team did an Incredible job! We were a group of 53 people and every person loved their food! The staff were great! Very friendly gave fabulous service! Would absolutely recommend!!

The atmosphere was amazing and the service was great. Our server was Ren and she was so helpful. We didn’t have to wait too long for our drinks and her energy was the best and made our night even better.

We had a company meal with over 50 people here at the venue last night and it was fantastic. The staff leading upto the event we're super helpful and were so accommodating with our changing needs. Wonderful friendly and smooth service on the night and the food was very tasty fab portions sizes especially considering it was a festive set menu. Thank you again to everyone at The White Bear!

Nice, convenient pub just a short walk from the tube station. Counter was understaffed with one poor soul trying to help 50 people with their orders and food service also a bit delayed. That said, my venison scotch egg was fabulous and really enjoyed the chicken escalope.
