Had a lovely meal at The White Bear. Valeria, our server started us off with a warm greeting and that carried through the night. Menu all looked great, and I can say the burger is worth it.

The place was so nice. Went there many times for sunday roasts with my family. We were looked after by sakip and he was doing absolutely fantastic job. We are going to book for family Christmas party after such a nice warm hospitality. Food was amazing .

Excellent pub with genuinely the best chips ever.

Como siempre, el personal era fantástico junto con la comida y bebida todo servido con una sonrisa a un precio razonable. Si aún no has probado The White Bear, te estás perdiendo un capricho.

The food and the extensive beer selection were great.

We went on a recommendation from a local and so glad we did, we enjoyed everything from Guinness with black current, Chambord cheese, fish and chips which you must have in England, espresso martinis were outstanding. Valerie and the manger Reese were outstanding in every way so much so that when he mentioned to come back for Sunday roast we went and he had a table waiting for us, loved the special attention we got and if you go to London it’s around the corner from Beefeaters distillery so don’t miss it and say hi from me lol!

Had lovely meal there with friends. Was looked after by Adam our Waiter . He was so lovely and made our experience even more enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for this young man. Was sad they had taken their lovely pork and leek sausages off the menu but Burger was equally tasty. Had Hummus as a starter and there was quite a bit. Friend had soup Starter and said that too was tasty. Plus money off if your visiting theatre. Whats not to like at the White Bear in Kennington.

Really good food and great space for toddlers to move around

Came across this gem of a place after visiting a local Art gallery . The staff in the restaurant part were very friendly and very good at there job .The food was good . And there was a great atmosphere about the place . Will definitely go back

On the plus side, the food was good. Apart from that the pub really seems to have gone downhill since my last visit in the spring. There didn’t seem to be enough staff on so we were constantly having to attract attention to order more drinks etc. and then, after we’d eaten, our table was left strewn with empty glasses and plates to the point where I eventually cleared it myself and put everything on a free one behind us while the staff looked on. We ended up feeling so frustrated with the lack of service that we moved to a different part of the pub where we could go to the bar ourselves and where we found another table covered in glasses which I once again had to clear before we could sit down (the end of the bar was also full of unwashed glasses). We then found ourselves having to move again because of an extremely loud group of people near us and once again had to clear the table of glasses before we could sit. We then realised that all of the lights above the seats on our side of the pub (immediately inside the door on the left as you entered) were out so we were basically sitting in darkness. I went up to ask the bar staff if they could turn the lights on but was met with a shrug and an explanation that they didn’t know how to do that. Another customer at the bar told me this was because the new manager was trying to ‘create atmosphere’ to which I responded there was a difference between mood lighting and not being able to see the faces of the people on the other side of the table (incidentally we had had to use the torches on our phones earlier to read the menus in the restaurant). Eventually the switch was found and the lights went on although only for a brief period of time before we were plunged into darkness again. By this point we collectively decided to give up and sit in the dark which was fine until dead on 11 when the lights all over the pub went on and someone I can only presume was the new manager began hollering for us to drink up and leave. He then came over and told us directly we had three minutes to finish and go. One of our party commented to the rest of us that they thought it was twenty minutes drinking up time at which point the same barman came back and quite rudely pointed out to us that if he’d said ten minutes we would have taken three times that so he thought he’d cut out the middle man and tell us three minutes so we’d leave on time. Talk about being made to feel like a valued customer! I should point out that the pub wasn’t that busy so none of this poor service was down to the staff trying to cope with a high volume of customers. We weren’t the only people that were complaining either. An older couple near us in the restaurant who ordered before us were apparently forgotten and then had to rush their food when it finally arrived as they were going to the theatre. Before they’d finished somebody came over and told them they would have to leave the rest of their meal and go up immediately as they were holding the show for them which seemed to anger them quite a bit. Anyway, it was quite an uncomfortable evening and put a bit of a dampener on my birthday celebration. The sad thing for the pub is that one of the people with me is in a choir and he was looking for somewhere in the area they could use to go to after rehearsals every week and thought the White Bear might be a candidate. Not surprisingly, after the terrible experience he had had though, he said they would look for another venue…

I celebrated my birthday at The White Bear in Kennington and from initial contact right through to the lunch itself, the whole process was perfect! 30 of us ate Sunday lunch then we moved into the cosy snug area by the bar. The meals were all pre-ordered via an easy to use link making bill itemisation super simple; which is just great for a large group. The staff were super friendly, accommodating and most (if not all) of my guests messaged me afterwards thanking me for such a lovely afternoon with delicious, freshly food. I couldn't recommend the venue highly enough - THANK YOU!

Food was great (especially the roast, as the sizes were good). Service was very prompt for the fish and chips, however it took around 20-30 mins for the roasts to come. Atmosphere was good, however, I suggest you book a reservation if you want to get nicer and bigger seating.

Stunning pub. Exceptionally clean with great interiors and best beer garden in London. Food was good and staff was friendly. Being dogfriendly is the cherry on top.

Our favourite go to for the Sunday roast ! As usual the staff were very welcoming and helpful with swift service and professional attitude. The food was delicious and the wine helped it go down easily ! Be back soon for a repeat visit.

Had an amazing lunch and drink today. The place was especially busy due to the cricket but the service was not lacking at all. The girl they had on floor, think her name was georgia, was excellent and well poised despite the obvious rush. Will be visiting again.

My girlfriend and I went on a Sunday afternoon. This was the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had, hands down. The portion was satisfying, staff attentive and friendly, and prices more than reasonable! Great atmosphere. This place is a gem. Highly recommended.

This is such a delightful pub. Lovely, friendly staff. Our Sunday roast was among the nicest I remember eating in any pub. Delicious, perfectly cooked beef, enormous pillowy Yorkies, lots of good veg. Thank you, we will be back often.

Great service, the staff was very nice and friendly. Met up for dinner and some drinks with my mate and honestly the rump steak they served was one of the best meats ive ever had. Also the atmosphere was nice and welcoming.

This pub is within a 5-minute walk from Kennington Station. This time I visited on a Sunday and ordered the Sunday Roast. There are various options such as chicken, pork, and beef, and each person can order what they like, but we recommend the sharing plate for two people, which comes with one meat and side dish for two people. However, the portions are quite large, so if you're hungry or want to try other dishes, we recommend visiting with a group of 3 or more.

This is a great place and I loved the food - we went for Sunday roast and did the sharing plate for two. The beef was AMAZING. I just found it a bit odd that it was a sharing plate for two with two pieces of beef but only one piece of chicken and one piece of pork (which was a bit dry) (would have been better with two small pieces of each) - we had to ask for sauces ie horseradish, apple and mustard. The roast potatoes were good but I have had better. All round it was good value for money and a great atmosphere - service was rather slow but that could be because we had a very late booking for lunch

I had a fish finger sandwhich with fries for my lunch on my break from work. It was sublime! Super friendly staff and even better chefs! I will be eating here again.

Got the feeling the place was understaffed. Had to wait quite a while for our starters and then main course. When the mains arrived one was missing. The waiter/manager didn't use a notepad to take the order. I did say you are brave and he laughed but he still got it wrong..... USE A NOTEPAD when you're busy. Not sure we will hurry back.

Lovely Sunday lunch, brilliant atmosphere and excellent service. The roast beef was delicious and served with fantastic home made horseradish. I would recommend a visit.

First time time visitor on 13th July, before heading to The Oval. Service was excellent, warm and fun from the moment we entered, led to our table, through to us moving. Excellent food! Would have preferred a larger range of real ale, but that's very minor nitpick.

Deceptive from outside. Much bigger than you think. Great selection of beers and friendly staff.

I was actually here to go to the theatre. Full marks for the theatre, the actors, the writer and the composer. However, the service in the pub is the slowest I've ever come across anywhere and I heard the same from other people who went there. I showed them my theatre ticket, which gets you a discount - and which also lets you know that you're going to the theatre. The food took about an hour so it arrived about three minutes before the bell went!! During the interval I ordered some drinks and crisps. It was a different person serving me but it was a similar style of serving. After I'd given him the order he said, "Just a minute," and disappeared for ages. I assumed he was going to find one of the drinks as it might have been squirrelled away somewhere else. Not at all. He just felt like doing some other things - collecting glasses, wiping tables and so on. Then he sauntered back towards me and repeated my order but it was wrong so I said it again. He poured the drinks very slowly and then said they didn't have a particular type of crisps, only another type, as though I'd said which type of crisps I needed. I'd never specified which flavour anyway so didn't care. I said that was fine. He kept saying that they didn't have one type of crisps but they did have another. I kept saying, "Yes, that's fine". After a few reps I got a bit agitated - I could hear the bell going and wondered how much of the second act I'd miss while he kept going on about the crisps. I said, "Seriously, IT'S FINE - I just want to get back in!" Reluctantly he gave me whichever crisps they were (without telling me their interesting story again) and the drinks and allowed me to pay. Later on I was with a friend and ordered some coffee. Yet another person was behind the bar and told me that they didn't sell that so I got something else. After he'd finished pouring it, another member of staff came out and said to the coffee-free member of staff that they DO in fact do coffee there but we'd already got an alternative drink by that time. I'd love to come back to this pub and go to the theatre again but I'll bring my own food and drinks next time I think to save the staff the bother. It's a pity - the food when it eventually arrived was was actually quite nice. A little pricey but quite nice, particularly the vegetarian soup (which did arrive in reasonable time, unlike the rest of it) and which was really good.

Top food for a pub, nice atmosphere and garden area out back. Reasonably priced too

Fish overcooked. Batter too dry and fragile crispy. Portion of peas an absolute joke. Food presentation however was good. Menu way over descriptive. Overpriced. Music forgettable and a loudspeaker right above the table.

Spectacular Sunday roast. Definitely recommend!

We stopped off on route to the Kia Oval. Lovely welcoming pub with excellent food and a very pleasant garden. We were served by Sakip who could not do enough for us! Only had a sandwich but the Fennel Pork Sausage sandwich and the Battered Cod Finger sandwich were delightful and like a meal on there own. Good choice of beers/ales and plenty of fruit with the Pimms! I would hugely recommend this place

It was great but typical brewery owned. The overworked waiting staff were rushed off their feet. Stop being so tight and employ more staff.

Booked a table for a party of six, were initially seated inside but as the weather was nice we asked to go outside ,this was no problem for the attentive staff. Set up a bar tab , great range of beers,and the guy behind the bar with the affro was a delight ( sorry ,didn't get his name) you have to keep hold of him . Ordered food ,burgers ,fish n chips and sausages, all very good , not one complaint from our party . The pub was great ,looked small from the outside but once inside was a proper tardis. All in all , a proper Youngs pub would go back in a heartbeat. Recommend to all. Great afternoon before the cricket Thanks to all at the White Bear.

Loved the fact that smoking and vaping is not allowed in the outdoor area. The barman really knew his beers, great advice.

Can’t go wrong with their roast dinners, perfectly cooked meat and lots of veg to go with it. The cauliflower cheese side is heavenly, absolutely worth getting it alongside the roast - great roast every time!

Has had a massive makeover. Now a lovely big old youngs pub again with something for everyone and still has theatre upstairs.

Staff never disappoint they are friendly and accommodating even when you do ask for unusual requests like lime and soda in a wine glass so you don’t feel out of place when your not drinking 😊their Sunday roasts are also well above any other pub in the area. Also a decent wine list. Thanks guys for always making my time at your pub a very happy experience

The evening staff are so friendly especially Reece, Adrian and Cameron they always have time to talk to you to see how you are, old school bar staff. In my eyes they are fully committed to the pub and make it an enjoyable evening.
