Shrub and Shutter in Lambeth

If i could rate 0 stars i would. I came with a friend on a Friday evening and at first it was a pleasant experience, until the waitresses started to make us feel uncomfortable and make huge hints for us to leave. We had just finished with our drinks and we kept getting asked if we wanted the bill… we said no as we wanted to stay longer and the shop didn’t close until 10pm (is was 9:15 at this point). The waitress still came back seconds later with a card machine. We said we just said we are okay and she left and then came back AGAIN seconds later. She said this time, we HAD to pay anyways. We were so confused as we hadn’t even received a receipt or anything stating how much we are even paying. We felt so uncomfortable so we payed there and then and then left. But the whole experience was horrible. I still haven’t received my receipt (had to ask them again before we left for it and they said they’d send it via email). It felt racially coded and was very upsetting. We just wanted a lovely evening out. Definitely not recommending this place to anyone.

Absolutely delicious cocktails. The spicy margarita was perfection. Friendly and fun service. I can't comment on the food as we didn't have any. I will definitely be back!

Came here for my sons birthday and had a fantastic time. Great food and they really looked after us. Will be back soon.

We were treated very rudely by one of the front of house. Shame as it otherwise has good atmosphere and cocktails.

I hired the whole place for my 30th - Everyone loved the venue which was perfect size for about 50 people, cosy atmosphere, good speakers and great food and drinks. Claudia was great in helping organise and we look forward to visiting again

This place is really good. Independent retailer with unique wines, cocktails and food! Sharing plates. We doubled dated. Really cool atmosphere and restaurant. We met the owner Alfie, said he’s Spanish but he sounds like a cockney!!

Very good atmosphere. We had dinner and the dishes are worth trying. You can have dinner with a good wine or beer and then finish with a good cocktail. You have to try the Southside pick up. In short, I recommend it

I used to come here for years where it was a friendly and welcoming space. Came back and was treated poorly, none of the original spark and was insulted by the waitress for a simple question regarding opening times. No more inventive cocktails. Times have changed. A shame to an institution

Estábamos en Brixton para ver a Prodigy en la Academia - recomiendo encarecidamente esto como un lugar pre-show - o incluso para una noche por su cuenta.

It is a lovely venue but fell below expectations regarding their service. We waited a good while till we got served and regularly had to call the waiter for attention. Food was nice, but one of our dishes were forgotten about. It's a lovely venue but fell below expectations. We shouldn't have to chase down the waiters when were spending £45pp.

The food was brilliant. Would especially recommend the chicken skewers and the roasted fennel. Cocktails were also really special. Would definitely recommend.

I went to Shrub and Shutter on a first date on Friday and thought the cocktails were fantastic - some of the best I've found in South London! Particularly recommend the Aperol/Mezcal-based special (can't remember the name of it!) The staff were attentive and friendly - the owner was a delight and gave us some interesting info on the cocktails. We enjoyed the Pan Con Tomate and the cheesy croquettes also. Give this place a go

Delicious food which was very well presented - can recommend the roast fennel and the bavette steak. Beer served in frosty glasses and delicious cocktails! We booked with the August offer on the website so the price was very reasonable 👍

As a Latin American, finding a place with cocktails made with spirits from my lands is an experience that brings me home. Good music, incredible staff and the comfort of the place exceeds all expectations, widely recommended

Booked the whole venue for a private function! celebrated my birthday here and was a great venue for my intimate celebrations. Had around 45-50 people for cocktails and drinks. There’s two rooms, the bar up front where everyone walks in, then the back room where we spent most of the night with the DJ. Claudia was great in answering any questions I had beforehand, helped us book the DJ, as well as agreeing to add shots to the menu. The cocktails/ drinks were delicious and you could tell the team put a lot of effort in. Alfie and the team were great on the night and had quick service throughout! Really happy with the whole thing and would recommend for a private event.

Was not open when we arrived with a reservation. Owners did not update google maps with it being temporarily or permanently closed, and should’ve also disabled online booking system. Very misleading, wasted an evening

Some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced in London. The waitress was incredibly rude, impatient, and unpleasant. It’s a shame because the place has the potential for being a really nice spot but the way we were treated made us never want to go back. Truly a shame. She couldn’t even be bothered to serve us wine in a wine glass, poured it in a cup of water and then very reluctantly brought a wine glass when we suggested we requested it. BAD VIBES

Absolutely incredible. Delicious food and cocktails from a passionate couple. Worked with dietary requirements cocktails were incredible and the croquettes, tomatoes and fennel were unreal and the olives we ate like popcorn. We will be back. You need to go.

Trekked across London to visit as they said they were open the entire bank holiday weekend. Closed at 6.15pm. Either they shut very early or open very late - either way that's not the entire weekend. Not amused.

The most delicious and interesting cocktails in London - every time I come I learn something new, or discover a new flavor and combination! The croquettes were very delicious, the atmosphere is very cozy and great service!

Pisco Sour is incredible and the food is very delicious. The croquettes are like in Spain and the bread with tomato too. Very good price, very good atmosphere and highly recommended!!!!

How do more people not know about this place? Don't get me wrong it was packed but the food is on another level and for a reasonable price. Even the Olives were exceptionally. Literally ever ingredient was carefully selected and prepared beautiful. The highlight was the steak bavette but all dishes were top class. The drinks were delicious, I had the lager (try it with an orange peel, I am trying to start a trend) and the wofe had a cocktail woth smoke, served in a box. Really cool. Staff kind, fun and uplifting. The atmosphere was chilled, cool vibe with a dj. Love this place will be going back again soon. Best place in Streatham.

5* - would really recommend this place! Came here for drinks last night. The staff were very friendly and made a proper effort to ensure that we were happy and comfortable. The cocktails were very tasty and the overall vibes were great. Will 100% be returning soon on a Friday/Saturday to listen to one of the DJs!

Had an amazing night out at the shrub and shutter. Staff are really friendly and they have an excellent range of different types of drinks and cocktails. It was really nice to experience a place were we could vibe chill out relax have a drink whilst listening to the dj play some tunes. Absoultlly loved this place.

The drinks and customer service were exceptional. Will be coming here again. Highly recommended joint. Plus, the music was on point.

The best pisco sours, absolutely delicious food and the orange wine was a TREAT! It’s a super cosy vibe, perfect for a date. And the owners are really lovely - even gave us an extra free treat. If you live in Brixton, this is a must visit!!!!

Amazing spot tucked away in Brixton away from the madness of the strip but close enough to the action. Great cocktails, food and warm and welcoming vibes whilst also feeling like a cool hidden gem. They had a DJ playing vinyl records when I went which had me constantly reaching for my phone to Shazam. Plus would highly recommend for the 1st or 50th date. I’m Brixton born and raised and definitely my favourite spot. Had the pleasure of meeting the lovely couple who run it and their passion for the place definitely comes through in the food, drink and atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.

Uno de los mejores lugares de Brixton. Tiene un ambiente muy agradable, con DJ en vivo. La comida es excelente con una fusión entre sabores mediterraneos y latinos. Tiene variedad de cócteles, "Tesoro Oro" es una experiencia muy divertida, pero en lo personal mi favorito es "Island Life". La atención al cliente es muy buena y acogedora. Sin duda un lugar donde volvería ir para seguir desgustando sus platos y cócteles.

Food was okay, I didn’t find the dining experience very comfortable, tables and chairs were a little rocky and all felt very cramped. Unfortunately a really quiet atmosphere when we went, but I’m sure it’s a bit more of a vibe when it’s busier ☺️

On walking in its a little hidden gem, looking a bit like a coffee shop, chilled vibes and the bar snacks are gorgeous. We loved the manchego Croquettes. The drinks menu is hard to understand but the servers are happy to explain. The drinks are very unique, they are small and strong. We had 2 each and we werent that fussed maybe we chose the wrong ones but I had a strong smokey one

Was introduced to the place a week ago and gotta say - very impressed! The place has this cosy, intimate vibe with a few small tables in the front, which is great for dates, but there’s also some bigger space for bigger get togethers in the back. We tried marinated olives (delicious product), empanadillas (perfect crispiness), croquettas de manchego (sooo nice and creamy inside), bavette steak (fire!), roasted fennel (liked the nutty finishing A LOT) and finished it all off with some really hot oxtail nuggets. Especially the latter were something to write home about. Actually, everything was, including delicious cocktails and very professional yet friendly staff <3 (thank you so much Alfie and Claudia!). I hope I’ll be able to drop by again sooner than later!

I've been there 4 or 5 times since the new management took over, and I've gotta say that it's becoming my new favourite spot in Brixton. Super cosy vibe, great music, attentive and knowledgeable staff, fantastic fresh food, and very good, balanced cocktails that are on point! A must visit in South London.

Probably, almost definitely, the best cocktails I've had in London. The cocktails have a kick, a lasting memory which has made Shrub and Shutter my go to cocktail bar in London! The food is great too, full of flavour! But to top it off are the staff who make you feel at home with their great hospitality and personable vibes - in particular Liam, with the good energy and jokes! Looking for Great Cocktails, Great Food and Great Vibes... Come to Shrub and Shutter!

Had a lovely time! Liam made us a few delicious amaretto sours some of the best I’ve had , had such a lovely waitress who was super chatty and so sweet . Will definitely come again!
