I came to spend an evening at the bar, and it was great! For whiskey lovers, don't miss this superb place. There are also beers on tap, and you can eat fish & chips on site from the restaurant next door, also very good!

Had a seriously great experience here. I’m a whisky newbie and the two bartenders kindly helped me explore and pinpoint tastes I liked. Very knowledgeable staff, great feel overall.

The Whisky Vaults Bar is truly extraordinary, both for the incredible range of bottles, and amazingly knowledgeable and helpful staff! Two friends and I visited, with varying prior experience with Scotch, and we were each guided to some truly exceptional drams. Warm and unpretentious, it's one of the best spots to relax and explore whisky in all of Scotland. Highly recommended!

A great whiskey bar. Christopher gave us very good advice. There are also older and rarer whiskeys. There is also a beer garden.

I only visited the bar, not the hotel. The abundance of whisky in the bar is fantastic. The advice is phenomenal. I had one of the best whisky tastings! Great selection, great whiskies and great bartenders.

The hotel was a great little spot to stay! The bar was fantastic, with a huge selection of whisky that was organized well! The bartender John was amazing. He was VERY knowledgeable and was a pleasure to talk to about the various whisky we had. Would absolutely, without a doubt recommend stopping in to have a drink and chat!!! The room we had (8) was a good size, with a comfortable bed and a decent sized bathroom. If you are looking for a place to stay in Oban, stay here!

This little gem is tucked away just off Oban's main street. Easy and inexpensive street parking (or a car park a short distance away). The staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful, the rooms comfortable and clean, and after everyone was settled for the night, quiet.

Great place and better people! Comfortable and straight forward! Nice pub downstairs with a spot just for people staying at the hotel. Within walking distance to everthing downtown. Try the Lorne pub for dinner!

I’m giving four stars although I really liked the place. Given its age and size, there are some limitations. It’s a very quaint hotel that has been in business for a long time. It’s an old building. A lot of history in the place. It’s a nice place to hang out in. We stayed one day and wished we had more time. Very steep winding stairs that you really need to be careful with. Check in is on the ground floor. John is a very nice, efficient front desk person. Carries your bags upstairs two at a time. Gives helpful advice on local restaurants and other places. He’s a great resource. The rooms are the next floors. They’re small which is kind of expected since it’s such an old building. They appear to be well maintained. For example, the caulking in the shower looks like it was done professionally. It was neat and clean. No receptacles in the bathroom. Small shower stall but it operates well. Everything was clean. Bed is firm, comfortable. Pillows terrible. Huge bath towels. You won’t be able to fit them into your suitcase (just kidding) -but they really are huge. Not much workspace in the sink area. It’s a little funky to enter. During the main hours, you enter via a small nondescript door near the very small reception area. After hours, you use a key to enter the building. You also get an actual key to enter your room - not a card Iike most places. There’s a bar attached with a collection of 320 scotches. I got a three item sampler of three reputable Islay scotches for 35 pounds. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the scotches. Great atmosphere in the bar area. There’s another very cozy bar area that is not staffed with a fireplace. You can sit there but must go to the main bar for service. You shouldn’t miss it.

This is for the bar - didn't stay at the hotel. Only in Oban for a couple of days; we've been here both days. Kyle and Chris really know their whiskies! An excellent selection of whiskies as well as full bar with beer and wine. Great outdoor seating. No TVs, no sports, just a friendly, relaxing place. If we lived here, this would be our place to hang out. Can't wait to come back!

On a solo sailing trip to Tarbert I was fortunate to get a call back confirming that a table had now become available. I don't normally do fine dining without the wife. My starter of Scallops in garlic butter with Samphire was excellent, no, they were better than excellent, followed by delicious Cod Fillet in sauce. The team were welcoming and the whole dining experience was first class. Meeting a friendly and knowledgeable couple from New Zealand made the "Dinner for One" a more relaxed and enjoyable evening. Go there, eat good food, get great service, and meet nice people.

Amazing food and atmosphere. The manager, Edwin came to our table to check on everything. and was so nice and genuine. Brandon, our waiter was attentive and very personable. The food exceeded our expectations! We only had about a 15 minute wait and trust me ...it's worth any wait that you have!

It is more than a decade since I visited Dunoon and time has not treated this once couthy resort town well. In the sixties, my granny would spend a couple of weeks there in the summer and visits to the town were frequent in the decade, when various family members were participating in running and jumping athletics events at the Cowal Highland games. The buildings on the once-marvellous Victorian pier have been allowed to fall into rack and ruin, giving you a very bad impression right from the off. Walking up Argyll Street is similarly depressing, with countless run-down and unoccupied shops adding to the impression that the town is really struggling for survival. Indeed, many of them have had a notice from the proprietor of a local enterprise almost pleading with the owners to do something about the sorry state of their property. Although I had been recommended to take lunch in the Lorne, the outside is, like much of the town, nothing to write home about. BUT..... The inside is a revelation. It really is extraordinary. From dilapidated to delightful, the contrast between the exterior and the interior is jaw-dropping. Everything about the Lorne is absolutely smashing, with well-trained, friendly and helpful staff, keen to make you feel at home. Although there is an extensive menu, I decided to opt for one of the specials on the blackboard, a soup and sandwiches combo for £9.95 plus a pot of tea for £2.90. The soup was home-made and extremely tasty; the minute steak toasted sandwich and fries served alongside it in hardly any time at all. The toilet, like the rest of the establishment was sparklingly clean. When the time came to return to the pier to catch a ferry across the Clyde, the staff were more than happy to summon a taxi to the door within minutes.
