A country pub that stood still, thank heavens, a delight to visit, a place to eat great home cooked food at a very reasonable price. The landlady is most welcoming and the customers adore her. I like the ambiance of the decor, very original. Lunch time menu only, varied and wholesome, no chips here, just honest food which I enjoy. Faggots, peas, mash and gravy very nice, plenty for the hungry visitor. The countryside around The Wheatsheaf is splendid worth a walk around the circuit, then drop in for some refreshments. Do that and you can remember a great day.

Old fashioned pub, just on the outskirts of Caerleon. First impression.........bit pokey and dowdy, just taken a trip back in time! Looks to be family owned but has just got good honest home cooked food. Piping hot and large portions, can't fault this. A modest range on offer for lunch time ( don't know what happens in the evenings ) Certainly did'n go hungry. Perhaps a refurbish of furniture/paint might help..............good spaces to eat outside on a sunny day. Yup would visit again,

After seeing and hearing a lot of reviews of this country pub lovely summer's day so we thought we would try it for lunch. Walked into the bar/lounge which was really dark not the best place to be when it was hot...asked for the menu but were told they wasn't one but the hot food was on the board and there was a sandwich menu. The menu was really uninspiring with very little choice the sandwich board was a little more interesting. We choose a ploughman's lunch which is usually tasty looking forward to nice cheese chunky bread etc. We sat outside and waited at least 20/25 minutes for this easy lunch. When it arrived it just consisted of a reasonable amount of cheese small handful of salad slice of bread off a small loaf cut into quarters small dish of branston pickle the to fill up the small plate a dish with a few pickled onions. Has to be the dullest ploughman's we have ever had, and at £7.50 certainly was not the cheapest. Outside the furniture was really poor a mish mash of rusty tables and benches which could have at least been updated. There were wooden picnic tables some of them had rotted wood. The door into the pub was really tatty needed painting and lots of other things were did not impress me. A lot of people would not agree with me as according to the reviews it is a very popular pub and the food is enjoyed. Unfortunately I did not have the same opinion I think the place is badly in need of an update. I don't think we will be visiting again anytime soon.

No te decepcionará!

Four of us reserved a tableland we had a wonderful Christmas lunch; turkey plus all the trimmings - just like mother used to make. It was a most enjoyable experience. The Wheatsheaf is quite small, very cosy, very relaxed with a decent atmosphere and a very warm welcome. I believe food is lunchtime only

One has to guess whether they are going to serve food on the day you arrive. All we wanted was a nice steak, but no, we left with empty bellies.

Seemed like a nice place but typically does not serve food everyday. Everyone else does including the NHS. Would not recommend it as it was a bit of a old persons place.

Recently went to the Wheatsheaf again having been there countless times over the years. I always order the faggots and peas meal which is outstanding and always comes with a big plate of quality bread and butter. Excellent value at £6.50. This meal must have been on their menu for 20+ years but if it ain't broke why fix it? Highly recommended.

I went here on the advice of a friend (who accompanied me) and we were not disappointed. We arrived early and the bar was not officially open (only 10 mins or so) but were given a warm welcome and served with a pint of VERY good Evan Evans whilst waiting for the kitchen to open. There were three pints on offer but as I was driving I stuck to the moderate one!>We examined the board and decided on the curry despite there being a fair selection of other items there as well.(Another customer had ordered the Faggots and peas with gravy and I shall certainly be back to try that as they looked wonderful)An ancient building with interesting picture and photos on the walls and, a real treat in this day and age, a real fire! The staff were chatty but not overly so which can be a bit of a bore and polite at all times. When the food arrived it was hot and delicious. You can run a tab and pay with a card which is always handy.Just a couple of miles outside the Roman Fortress town of Caerleon I would recommend this place to anyone!Considering it's a quiet country pub/restaurant they must have served 20 covers or more when we were there which certainly adds to its reputation!I suspect that booking might be a good idea of an evening or a weekend!

Been popping in here for the the last 10 years (just wish I lived nearer) It's always welcoming, during winter months warm (great coal fires) Serves good lunches (doesn't try to be a gastro pub) Top price meal £9. And the most important, never serves a "duff pint" (from memory believe they have won awards from Camra for the last 14 years) Attracks a wholesome clientele (coded message, if your a Daily Mail reader (and above) you'll feel at home, conversely "Mirror" reader, maybe stray somewhere else.

Exceptionally rude staff and very unwelcoming. Food was mediocre, not worth the money we paid. Really confused as to cambra status - very poorly kept ale on my opinion. Rude 'locals'. Will not be going back. Car park is a nightmare, very unsafe due to pot holes.

Recently refurbished and Rebranded as "Fire & Fork" promising a " a traditional American barbecue experience". No Bread available before Starters. - Pork Burnt Ends - Mixture of under and over cooked chunks of pork in a sickly sweet, slightly spicy smoked sauce. Need something acidic to cut through all the fat came with "Texas "Toast", Stale slice of bloomer spread with an unidentifiable substance. Beef Cigars - Lovely shredded beef in a crispy pancake style roll with a rich, smoked Garlic Mayo. Mains - XL Short Ribs not available so both ordered the 10 Hour Smoked Brisket. Served as described on menu. No discernable smoked crust or flavour to the Brisket. No mustard available at this restaurant. No Napkins provided, asked twice, got some from another table. we dealt with our cutlery shortage similarly. No water provided when requested. Inexperience of the staff evident but more than made up for by their enthusiasm and wish to please. Two Starters, Two Mains, Three pints and a Short / Mixer - £92. Option to add tip to card payment. Cash tip direct to server. This place has lots of potential but needs to overcome teething problems before one will consider a return

My partner and I came here to check out the Detroit pizza and cocktails. The service was fast and super friendly, plus they catered for my nut allergy really well. Being dog friendly, we took out 12 yo labrador Alffi who had fun, plus and Utterly Mutterly ice-cream! We had the 1/2 and 1/2 Detroit pizza, a mix of Bloody Mary and the porcini mushrooms. It was DELISH, the portion was also massive meaning we took half home for tea, making it 2 meals in 1. My partner had the Detroit IPA which was hoppy and fresh. I had the Shepherd and Welsh Wanderer cocktails. Very strong, delicious and well presented. We have friends that live locally and will absolutely be back to check out the Sunday slices, bring our dogs and have some more pizza and cocktails. Thanks Lee & co for fab hospitality.

I was shocked that there were no disabled parking spaces and I had to drop my elderly disabled mother at the front entrance then drive a fair distance to the tennis courts car park to park my car. I am also disabled and have to use a walking mobility aid which was quite difficult as I had to walk on the main road to the venue to get back. There was no dropped kerb to allow me to use the very narrow inadequate footpath. Very very disappointed at the lack of disabled parking for such a large and well used venue.
