Excellent fresh food, always well cooked, great value for money and a friendly welcome.

Dreadful toilets (my wife concurs re the Ladies), staff disinterested. I can't imagine visiting again even though the food was very nice. Shame.

Food is brilliant, shame the attitude of all 3 waitresses had to ruin our experience, seemed to be girls who couldnt care less and that massively impacts the service. A family member had a previous experience in October and too had been put off. Also as far as I’m aware, unsuitable changing facilities in the toilets. A dirty mat was provided on the sink basin. And toilets themselves could have done with a clean We came for an evening meal and had already booked. Myself and partner ordered our drinks at the bar before we sat down however the rest of the table had to ask for drinks as was not offered. When their drinks arrived they were put down with a flair of attitude from the waitress, and off she went. We ordered our food and once again cutlery was placed at the opposite ends of the table for ourselves to pass amongst us instead of placing in front of us. (Steak knives arrived separately when the plates were served) There was only four of us, it could have been two seconds out of their day/ My partner had an empty cup and we had to prompt the waitress to get another drink. These are just things that should be part of the restaurant experience, McDonalds I would understand however. Starters arrived and they were lovely, honestly could not fault the chefs for both courses. A member of our table had asked for a side of chips when mains had arrived. Understandably we should have ordered that earlier however none of us were prepared for the chips to arrive after we had eaten our meals (around 10-15 minutes). Half our table had been cleared of plates at this point and we had known it had been forgotten about. Received a very unapologetic apology from the waitress Unfortunately I recommended this place to the rest of the party, as a few years ago it was all round top notch. Maybe it needs to be assessed why they were so unwelcoming as I know we minded our Ps and Qs

Food ok and homemade.The biggest let down was the toilets,they were absolutely filthy,toilet itself hadn't been cleaned in weeks you could tell with the amount of dust,urine and poo that was around the toilet.The sani bin at the back of the toilet door was filthy and full of cobwebs around it.Your feet stuck to the floor when you walked on it.

Draught beer was excellent. Had fish n chips . Steak n ale pie both excellent good portion sizes too.

Food expensive. £32 odd for a teeny 3" steak fillet. Don't mind but very mediocre. Poor service. No service with a smile. We booked a table but other punters took it to just have a drink. Most disappointing is the state of the toilets. Absolutely appalling. Stink to high heaven. Broken floor and toilet seat hanging off. If you want to charge 5 star prices then have decent toilets . Staff miserable. Wouldn't recommend and definitely would not go back

Food acceptable - eventually (VERY slow service) - nothing to write home about, ordered 2 steaks 1 medium, 1 rare, staff got them wrong way around. Poor choice of drinks - other than spirits (the staff don't even know the difference between them). For drivers, you can have coke.

Excellent service and food plus able to take the dog inside 🐕 happy days Went on Tuesday night and enjoyed the burger offer. Delicious pork burger, the texture of a burger but definitely pork meat in it, juicy and tender 😋 26/04 Went tonight with the dog again, didn't have to wait as long as usual for ordering and service which was nice. Food as delicious as ever, wooden platters seem to have been replaced by white oval plates, think I preferred the wood but that's just personal choice

We visited on steak night and the sirloins we had were amazing. The chips and onion rings were beautiful can’t fault the meal we really enjoyed it. The service was really good came to us to apologise about the delay as a staff member down which was really nice. Highly recommend best steaks we have had in a while very full after.

I first visited in November for my intimate wedding lunch with family and was blown away with the food. My husband & I have visited a few times for lunch since then and have not been disappointed. Atmosphere is friendly and cosy and food is always fab!

I would highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a delicious meal at an affordable price. All of our meals were expertly presented and arrived at the table in good time. We all agreed the food was excellent and there were clean plates all round. The pub is dog friendly and the staff are very friendly.

Just had a meal tonight with my family. We ordered two sirloin and two T-bone. It was the first time we had eaten as a family for months so we were all looking forward to it. Wednesday is Steak Night and so usually busy. After approximately 30 minutes we received only the two T-bone steaks, apparently our sirloin order had been given to another table and hence we would have to wait for the remaining meals to come later. The T-bones were both luke warm but we decided to progress. My steak was full of fat and gristle, approx 35-40% of it totally inedible and very difficult to cut even with a steak knife. I did explain that it was not very edible but only received a withering comment. I soldiered on it but spoilt the evening for me. My son's steak was better quality but cold. A bit later the staff member returned to say our two rump steaks were on the grill and we had to remind her that we had ordered sirloin steaks. They arrived in due course both better quality and hot although one was rare but my son decided to press on given we had waited so long. Eventually their pepper sauces turned up after chasing for them.. I was not expecting some a gourmet meal but a good honest steak Having been in previous weeks we have tolerated slow service because the food was good but tonight has left me questioning a return visit. If I do I will not order the t-bone again and I can see others have faired poorly as well with this particular dish. Finally on paying the bill no offer was made for any reduction. Very disappointing to say the least.

Had the steak not very good sent it back also wasn't good when it came out paid a lot of money for this

An absolutely delightful pub. Food was really good and the people in there were lovely. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name but the Scottish lady that served us was really lovely too, will definitely come here again

We love going here to eat, can’t fault the food one bit. The problem we nearly always find is the service. Even when I call to make a booking the staff sound so miserable it’s really off putting.. There’s no buzz or atmosphere here it feels like the staff don’t want to be there. I am not the only one to notice this and it’s such a let down. Staff need to be re trained or need to put a smile on their faces I know it’s a busy place to be and if it wasn’t such a convenient place to eat for us I doubt we would go. I recommended to a local in my village and sadly they were not impressed with staff either . In this day and age we should be grateful to have a job it’s not hard to smile and be friendly / chatty. There’s plenty of jobs that don’t require this. A restaurant does!!

Just been for a lovely meal here as we are away in the area for a weekend. Was recommended by a local and it couldn’t have been any nicer. Lovely staff and lovely cozy pub lounge. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals, I had the slow cooked beef in red wine sauce and my partner had a burger. All home made and fresh and piping hot. Could not recommend enough. Will definitely return when we can. Thank you so much!

Another fantastic meal at The Wheatsheaf, all 4 of us in our party were very happy with our meals. We were served by Joan, who was professional, courteous and very funny at times, a proper breath of fresh air and made our visit memorable. Thank you to all working last night.

Absolutely first class, the service and food are always of the highest standard.

Meal was lovely and the food was cooked perfectly. One of the items on the menu was no longer served, yet still on there. Unfortunately, service wasn't great. We had to fetch our own drinks from the bar as thats where the young girl left them. The young girl seemed more interested in going out to Browns than actually serving. It seemed like we were making things difficult by asking for a new salt pot (ours had run out) and asking for more drinks. We decided not to stay for pudding and asked for the bill (which we had to fetch off the bar ourselves). Normally, we leave a tip, but unfortunately, we didn't feel we could on this occasion. The toilets were also in need of some TLC, both the ladies and gents had big puddles on the floor, unsure if it was urine or water leaking.

Very friendly and good was excellent. A proper pie too! Good value.

Well called in for lunch and what a lovely meal all fresh and the taste was amazing. The best I have had .I will be calling in more often it is very hard to find a place to eat well prepared food and the price is fair. Thanks for the excellent service five star plus

Empty pup when we arrived, but no seats were available we were told, I don't think our faces fitted , we were just passing through and hungry but they were very unhelpful.

I ordered a £32 T-Bone steak which came cooked perfectly but was mostly inedible poor quality meat! After receiving the meal nobody came to ask if everything was okay with our meal so I brought the issue to their attention when they came to collect the plates at the end. I said that if you had bothered to ask if everything was okay that I would have sent it back to which I got the reply (would you really) as if I was joking! No apologies or any sort of communication whatsoever not even to see if anyone wanted dessert! While my partner was paying the bill I once again mentioned how bad the piece of meat was only to be completely ignored! There didn’t seem to be any one of any sort of authority around only young inexperienced staff. There was another table that was complaining about being at their table for half an hour without even receiving a menu as well so I really was disappointed with the experience and cannot recommend at all. I include a photo of all the inedible meat which my dog really enjoyed.

The food is very good. We had the Thai green curry (pleasantly hot with a real naan and a generous serving), the mild red curry and a beef and ale pie. Dog friendly. Doombar was fine, other ales not tried. We had a long wait to be served, partly due to a long wait to get our menus and take the order. Arriving at 6:30 the food came at 7:45. No apology or explanation was offered.

The food was very nice. The portions large. It was a busy evening, but the waiting time was long. The service was poor. It's rare that I don't leave a tip.

We visited with my son and daughter in law, having just got married, the food was absolutely beautiful, true home cooked comforting food. The waitress, I didn't get her name, mid age lady, she was lovely and so welcoming, thankyou, we will be back

Good food but the wife had a cup of tea and it was not very hot

Reasonably priced food but top quality and presented well. But because of this it can get quite busy. Fortunately there's plenty of room inside and some outside seating. I think it was less than a week before our 2nd visit we had such a pleasant experience. The staff seem really proud of what they are achieving there and obviously have a good system in the kitchen (kudos to the chefs).

Food takes some time to come out to your table but it is freshly cooked so thats good 👍

Went on Wednesday night for the Steak night, ordered two Sirloin Steaks from the special board for £26.00. Sadly the two Steaks served were the worst I have ever been served anywhere. They were over 30% grissle, fat or other hard fibre which was inedible. We were not asked if everything was OK otherwise I would have complained at the table. At the end of the meal I complained to the waitress who's reply was that she would pass on our complaint to the kitchen. I didn't get a further response or asked if we wanted a dessert or anything else. Needless to say I was still charged for both Steaks without any further apology. Only good news is that my dog will enjoy the left over more than we did. We will not be returning if this is the standard of food and service.

I was taken there by my in laws (thank you for the meal)and it was absolutely delicious. I had a pie of the day which was beef and ale. It came with a choice of veg, chips or mash if I recall correctly. The meat melt in your mouth. Nothing complicated, just really tasty food. Lovely staff, too!

I love going here ,love the food ,the atmosphere and its value for money ,however went last night, I didn’t appear to recognize any of the staff, stood at the bar for a good 5 minutes or so when we arrived and was totally ignored by the staff (except the small one with the pony tail)as if we were invisible and they didn’t seem happy at all,I hope this is a one off Diana

Phoned up to ask what time food was being served till...told half past one. Walked 1 hour to get there with the dog and arrived just after 1pm to be told they weren't taking any more orders. The place didn't even seem that busy. Shame as we know the food served there is good but they have certainly lost our custom today and for the future! Very disappointed.

Had small haddock and chips. Delicious, huge and well presented. Others had small Sunday roast beef, everyone very impressed.All meals cost only £9.95 each. All meals certainly weren't small !

Four of us booked Sunday lunch 14/7/24 and enjoyed the 1st course which was tasty. When we asked for desserts we were told we couldn’t have any as we had used our hour and a half and table was wanted for next booking and to settle our bill and leave. Half hour delay waiting for 1st course followed by long wait after and my husband got up to ask to place dessert orders. Staff attitudes were indifferent and we just were repeatedly told no. We are all over 50 with 2 in their 70s and 80s. A shameful and disgraceful way to treat customers with no apologies given. The Wheatsheaf management need to accept this was wholly their fault and as they give hour and a half between service at a table they need to ensure the customers are served in a timely fashion to avoid this. They also need to ensure they have sufficient staff to cope with the amount of bookings taken . We left very angry after feeling we had only had half our meal through no fault of ours. There was no customer service, no apologies and no offer to waive half or all our bill as a gesture of goodwill. As it stands none of us will ever eat here again. We then stopped at Tesco and bought their finest lemon tart and a pot of cream and had a dessert at home.

Lovely cosy pub with a good range of gluten free options, both bar staff were exceptional and were happy to serve us whilst the bar was busy. I had gluten free gammon with pineapple which was spot on and I glad I didn’t order the huge option!

One female barstaff had a very poor attitude

We've been going here for years, the burgers are the best We've ever had, that being said no other meal has disappointed. From seasonal soups to tuna steaks and the mega hand cut gammon are all winners. Just one word of warning, book a week in advance...

Lots start with the positive - This was our second visit after the first time we loved the food, service , whole experience end to end. I called and they were able to accommodate us within the hour which was great. Food - we ordered the steak and ale pie (Delicious!!) no complaints at all. Negatives - When we arrived a customer was being served so we waited ... not a problem. Then was our turn, 2 staff with noone to serve , chatting , no acknowledgement that we were waiting. Another customer (seemed to be a regular as knew his name) plonked his glass on the bar and he was served , spoken to , still no acknowledgement to us. We were about to walk out as we felt uncomfortable. Eventually we were asked our name and shown our table. It's a shame as we feel our money is just as important as a regular and this needs to be addressed, just to even have an acknowledgement , it wasn't busy. We may not return as feel this is unacceptable.

Intimate and friendly local pub restaurant

We had terrible service here last month. Won't be going back.. had a table for 5 for 1pm, 09/05/24 name of Epton. Our food order took ages to come to us, and after we had finished our mains we expected to be asked if we'd like desserts. Hubby went up to the bar to get some menus, to be told by bar staff we couldn't order desserts as the chef had gone! Mum was mortified as we had our cousin and her husband over from Holland and this was disappointing and disgusting behaviour. They should not have booked us for 1 if they knew they couldn't accommodate us correctly. YOU ASKED FOR THE NAME AND DATE OF BOOKING, WHICH I SUPPLIED IN THIS EDITED POST AND ALSO REALISED THAT I HAD PUT THAT THE BOOKING WAS FOR 2PM, IN FACT AS EDITED IT WAS FOR 1PM. COULD YOU TELL ME YOUR OPINION OF THIS NOW

Visited here on Saturday luckily we booked a table, Was fairly busy, got served by nice staff and didnt have to wait long to say they were busy. Food was fairly quick and was very tasty, The meat in the pie just fell apart in my mouth and the chips were home cooked and very chunky.. good price too. Would visit again

Just eaten at The Wheatsheaf and have say that we can not recommend enough. Even though we have a pub of our own….Was greeted by Erin and Jamie (who it turns out was the chef) and felt instantly at ease. The service at the bar and table was faultless and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. 5 stars to both mentioned…. We will be back, Neil & Chelle

This place was recommended to us When we arrived the lady at the bar looked at us ( Indian family ) and just said we are full. We looked around there was seating Just from her body language and the manner she talked to us ,it felt like we were not welcome No apology or smile

I've given 5 stars for everything due to the excellent reviews. Unfortunately we didn't eat here! We showed up at 7pm on a Thursday night and they couldn't serve us cos it was full. And it was absolutely rammed. Shame - the food looked amazing. Went 2 miles up the road to the Marsden pub and restaurant which was pretty good TBF.

Fantastic meal this evening the seafood platter was first class. Everytime I have eaten here, exemplary food. Also the staff are outstanding too. Lovely to see so busy on a Thursday evening. Keep up the great work. Thank you

Been a regular at here for over 2years and food been fantastic but unfortunately just been on steak night and found the service not very good at all and waited for over 45min and still no food arrived and when I asked all I got from management was we are busy and not even apology.

Myself and partner travel over 30 miles to eat here. One of the best food pubs around. A proper pub rather than a frilly lettuce establishment with wholesome food. I recommend booking to avoid disappointment as it can be very busy. Biggest issue? They ran out of pie one of the times I was there!!!!!

Visited with my mate and his daughter. Great food - really tasty. Only advice to visitors who have the Sunday roast: don’t have breakfast! The portions are massive. Will definitely visit again.

Been told the roast here is bloody amazing. Sadly could only make it on a weeknight but was steak night. Table of 9 ordered starters 40 minutes later bought out mains still not had starters food was cold and steaks over done and cold asked to speak to manager took a hour and asking 4 times before he arrives and he just laughed about it

We visited the Wheatsheaf Inn on Wednesday this week whilst on holiday and it was steak night and secured 2 rump steaks with all the trimmings for £22.00 for 2 the steak was excellent and the chips and trimmings well complimented the steak. We back the following night and had the haddock it was freshly amazing. We are in Boston in June and will back to the Wheatsheaf Inn.

Went for a wedding meal. They were not prepared for us, we sent flowers and table decorations to be put in the table before we arrived and they didn't have them out, they 'didn't know they had them' the food took ages to come out, they had some of the pre ordered meals but not all of them. We were very very disappointed with the service

Food was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and even suggestions were made when someone did not like Stilton on their steak. Very good value for money and would definitely return and recommend.

Our daughter travelled over to us for the day , we googled a restaurant the wheatsheaf Inn bounced back at us ,it’s a place we’ve drove past countless times but never tried ???? & I have to say after the service & meal we received Monday we’ve missed out on a charming welcoming experience with an obviously talented chef We booked the table some days before , we arrived just after 12 to a very warm atmosphere inside The food was exceptional all courses, the beverages again all good & the doombar on point very well kept & the price for the three of us very reasonable indeed we will certainly return .

Had a lovely meal here with family. The inn was warm, the staff were pleasant and the food was amazing. We had heard nothing but good reports about the food and we were pleased with just how good it was. Good portions and good price too. The staff were very busy which slowed down service a bit but nothing that is worth complaining about and completely understandable. The only grumble I did have is that they had run out of sticky toffee pudding but we will definitely be going back again soon. Go and try it for a meal, you will be pleased you did
