Great location, friendly staff and very helpful, great breakfast. A few small points that let the place down, it's opposite a restaurant with great hand painted signature where this pub/ hotel has banners out side great shame. Bathroom door didn't shut let alone lock and the shower was very small so larger people would struggle. Lots of laminated signs everywhere including two in the window saying opened for breakfast. These are small points as I said otherwise it's very welcoming and it was a pleasant stay. Thanks

i have both stayed, eaten and drank here. the stay in their hotel was quite nice, the room was very clean with housekeeping coming around regularly and being very polite about knocking on your door. the bathroom was immaculate and quite lovely, nicely laid out with nice appliances. the breakfast that came along with my booking was also very nice, and definitely filled a spot. however, i have been to drink at the pub a few times, and was served by a very rude female server behind the bar, who made assumptions about my age before asking me for ID. due to this, i havent been back. shame, as the pub is really pretty inside as well and has a lovely atmosphere.

Hotel staff really went out of their way to deal with a problem with a booking through Agoda and thanks to their help a possible disaster was resolved. The hotel is superbly located for centre of Newport and very close to bus station for good access to just about everywhere on island. Service - always very good and very friendly. Breakfast very good and more than ample (fruit and yoghurt would have been a welcome addition)!! Pub food - good variety of both interesting and classic meals - and good value.

We met family members there for a drink and catch-up. We easily got a table on a Saturday evening. The staff were friendly and helpful and even took a group photo for us.

The Wheatsheaf has an adjoining pizzeria combining their own menu with an extensive range of pizzas. Cannot fault the food here, either price or quality wise. As a family group we totally recommend.

Can't get over how shockingly bad the pizza I had from here last night was. Soggy, doughy even the cheese and sauce was bad.

We were a group of 8 on a golf weekend, and we chose to stay at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Newport. The location allowed us easy access to the coast and golf courses with just a 20-minute drive. The Inn was truly fantastic, with warm and welcoming hosts, clean rooms and delicious food. The pub downstairs had just the right amount of atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to anyone seeking accommodation in Newport.

Just popped into the wheatsheaf for a Sunday roast. It was delicious. Lots of food, really hot. A really nice touch was the bowl of cauliflower cheese and extra gravy. Followed by a sticky toffee pudding and a coffee. Great attentive staff, real fire great food. A perfect Sunday meal. We’ll be back.

After several months of closure (they owning brewery withdrew) it's great to see the Wheatsheaf back open. For anyone with a serious interest in beer and cider it's something of a Mecca, with the likes of Kernel, Wild, and Crafty Devil all on the taps in the opening days. There's plenty for the less adventurous too (a common criticism of the old place). No food yet, but that's promised for the future. The decor has been refreshed too, with some beautiful touches like the vintage enamel beer ads, and some warmer colours and furniture added to the side rooms.Heartily recommended, and a real treasure.

If you're into craft beer the Wheatsheaf is THE place to go. There are half a dozen options on both cask and keg, with a focus on the Celt owners of the pub but far from exclusively. You'll probably score some interesting bottles too, likely Wild or Beavertown. Plus there's a lively music scene at the weekends and newly reopened pizza kitchen (get there early though). Billy and Joyce are great hosts and there's a feeling that the Wheatsheaf is really starting to be a focal point which Llantrisant needs. Very thinly recommended.

What a great place. Local pub which serves many different types of beer. It also serves its very own gin. Definitely worth a try or two! If you're in the area pop in and say hello to Bill or Joyce.

The Wheatsheaf's out of date website, which promises food, is not to be trusted. This is a fairly grim pub with no food available and nowhere you'd want to be eating food. The ale selection is good but the lack of custom means the beer is not at its best. Shorts were provided in a cracked glass. Extremely unimpressed to have travelled there on false pretences and I'm posting this to save anyone else the inconvenience and disappointment.

So good to see the Wheatsheaf back where it belongs as simply a brilliant place for a Friday or Saturday night out. The acoustic music is second to none, the ales are superb and the atmosphere electric. Joyce and Billy have imaginatively developed the place and there is also a well- attended cult film night on a Wednesday. Long may it continue.

The Wheatsheaf re-opened earlier this year and boy is the new version good! They have six casks and eight kegs on tap across a wide range of primarily beers, but with ciders, stouts, lagers and porters to boot.If you like good drinks this a great pub.The inside is spartan, but clean. But it works for a simple theme. The pub is owned by the Celt brewery in Caerphilly, a good local company who don't have many pubs, but if they do them like this I hope they will have many more. For food the pub does pizzas, built on a basic cheese and tomato base with lots of interesting toppings on offer. I have eaten there with and without children and found them to be good.I have been several times and will be returning, this is what a good pub should be like.

Wow, what a selection of ales!! We visited here a number of weeks ago, a week or two after it opened. Very friendly owner whose knowledge of the ales on offer was second to none. Although, the bar is sparse, it was welcoming, warm and very friendly. The pizza selection looked inviting, and the selection was written up on a chalkboard near the bar, we didn't try them as we had already eaten. I can imagine this place being extremely cosy especially in the winter. Its not the owners fault, but shame about the lack of parking. I think our four legged friends are allowed in too - which is a nice touch. Can't wait to return - without the car!! Good luck to all involved.

When the previous landlord left the Wheatsheaf the locals were worried. He'd spoilt them with his passion for craft beer, much of it produced from his superb micro brewery in the cellar. Fortunately a new man has risen to the challenge of continuing his legacy, and so far he's doing a cracking job. Warning - if you're a hard-core CAMRA man hunting for a warm pint of mild then you'll probably be disappointed. The taps are full of punchy beers big on hops and, often, alcohol, many from the Celt brewery who own the place but also from some cracking brewers both in the area and beyond. It's a massive treat for anyone remotely interested in new wave beers. Food is in early stages of development but it's fantastic to see pulled pork and brisket atop the superb pizzas. Presentation is fantastic too. There's much more excitement on on the way including, they say, a gin distillery in the basement. This is a pub with good ambitions, and deserving of all the success it might find.

We could *easily* have spent a whole day here. Even in October there was so much to see, including red squirrels. There was an excellent art exhibition in one of the rooms. I don’t say this lightly; the BEST cup of tea on the island.
