The Codfather in Isle of Wight

Average fish and chips during a trip to Ryde (can't beat the view and seating options from the esplanade ). Staff were friendly. I think it wasn't drained long enough so when we unwrapped it a few minutes later everything was soggy, greasy and stuck together. Was ok to eat but not the best we've had.

Very poor. Hadn't been in here for ages & based on what I was given I won't be returning, it was so unenjoyable & I threw over half of it in the bin it was that bad. Chips were greasy, not crispy at all, with zero taste while the jumbo sausage wasn't very nice either. (Chips looked & tasted like they'd been reheated). Also, portion sizes weren't very good imo - for a £4.50 large chips I really didn't think there was much there at all. Staff were so so. I was going to order a burger but was told it'd be about 30 mins due to something in the kitchen not currently turned on & in use - this was about 4pm. What a waste of £7! Hate to say bad things about a local family business but it really was so poor & disappointing. There's a new chip shop business right next door, that place isn't anything special either, but was better than here based on my experiences. My advice is go up the high street to either Tony's or Wights, both of which are far superior.

Polite and friendly, was delighted could actually get delivered. 15 mins was not an issue, food was well packaged so hot

I phoned the store at 7.50, she said it was on its way, I phoned again at 8.23 and they said it had left 20 minutes ago. It is only 5 minutes away, when it finally arrived it was lukewarm and had to reheated

Our group had some fish and chips and scampi yesterday evening, while awaiting a ferry back to the mainland. Our food was cooked to order. The fish was flakey, boneless, crispy and piping hot. The Chips were lovely. I was really impressed that the team serving and frying were polite and kind. I have worked as a fryer in an award winning chip shop in Norfolk (French's Wells Next The Sea). Well done guys!

Excellent munch and service. This place caters for those that need halal. The fries and fish are fried separately. Harrison really looked after me.

Had to call up as they forgot 2 curry sauce but apart from that it’s was good

Ordered here tonight got 4 bottles of pop marked on the bottle as £1 they was charging me £2 a bottle I have being coming here for years and thought this was disgusting as we had spent over £40 on food

courier was polite as usual, I think the gentlemen ran the Codfather as he commented that their pineapple fritters were selling well. Delicious as usual.

very nice chip shop and lots of veggie options too. only dropped 1 star as the chips were very nice but would have preferred slightly more vinegar on them!

Not bad for a sea side chip shop

Just had our first weekend trip to the isle of wight for the garlic festival and stayed in ryde with our dogs. Had an evening walk to the beach with them and stopped off at this fish & chip place. It was extremely busy compared to the one next door to it, always a good sign on which is better. Bit of a wait on food but we didnt mind. The fish was delicious and crispy and chips were well cooked, not greasy at all. Reasonably priced aswell. We would gladly come back again if we are ever back in ryde

We turned up just after noon and had the best fish and chips for many a year, and I've been to quite a few chippys over the years. Crisp and fluffy chips, tasty mushy peas, and crisp batter fish all went a treat on the beach. Shame we live on the mainland!

Ordered from justeat as on holiday. Order was delivered promptly, extremely hot and the best fish and chips I have had in years! Clean oil, not greasy, fresh and boxed perfectly. Thank you!!! Perfect service.

Let down by another go eats shop. Went in with a large order and everything freshly cooked and didn't have to wait long. This will be our favourite now😊😊

Genuinely one of the best fish and chip take outs I've had. Fish was cooked perfectly and fresh, chips were done just right. Also not too expensive either. Would definitely recommend it!

Wonderful fish and chips takeaway with recommendation for the hoki and overall the food was lovely with good portions and perfect by the beach watching the sunset! Slightly more expensive than ideal but would definitely recommend and nonetheless worth the price!

unfortunately my order was lacking an item but when I called the restaurant about it they offered me a refund.

Fish, chips and sausage were lovely. Sadly the fish sarnie came with the skin on and plenty of bones throughout it. Took nearly an hour which usually isn’t the case but understandable as there is an event on the seafront.

Had some very good sausage and chips there, from some very friendly staff. A very nice meal.

Shop looked good, staff were professional and polite but food was not quite up there. I had cod and chips, the cod was nice but the chips were meh…some of them were ok but a lot of them tasted stale and chewy. Maybe lunch time chips are reheated? I was slightly disappointed because of this but the cod made up for it. Would I come here again…probably not as it would be a gamble on the chips. Just awful. Way too long for delivery. Was barely warm. Over cooked sides & horrible chips. Can’t recommend at all!

Just had chicken and mushrooms pie and it was cold lady stuch temperature gauge in pie twice I went 100 yards and it was stone cold

Love everything about this place. Food is fantastic, friendly staff, great value - have been eating here for years. Highly recommended.

We headed here because they do vegan options - and we weren’t disappointed! We had a large portion of battered vegan sausage (comes with 2 sausages) and a small portion of chips each, which was a lot of food. The sausages were really good and reminiscent of pre-vegan days. We paid £16 in all, which also included a beer and soft drink. There are plenty of benches and a grassy area along the esplanade (just opposite and along a bit) to enjoy your food.

Delicious food as usual, right on time!

Very disappointed. Order 3 potions of chips and had them wrapped. When we got home to eat them, they were either just cooked or almost uncooked. Didn't feel driving back was worth it. Perhaps staff should concentrate on cooking rather than chatting to friends who walk in. Will not be returning.

First of all the food was very good but it said like 6 20 to 6: 40 and then changed to to 7:20 to 7:40 which was annoying but the food was very good

First time customer (I’m not from the island I came for a short break from Yorkshire) I have to say the food is really good, chips were delicious and I’ve never known a chip shop do battered veg sausage! So I was overly chuffed with that, definitely recommend this place. Hopefully I’ll be back in august! Many thanks

Fish and chips was brilliant and served by a lovely young man who was pleasant and polite and knew what he was doing, first time I have ever been offered lemon with my fish from a chippy and it was great. Thank you 😋

Unfortunately during my visit I had witnessed numerous health and safety issues including negligence of regular hand washing, no PPE, bug zapper being turned off, middle ceiling air duct not clean which looms over where the food is served, the counters were littered with crumbs, bins left right next to the fryer. A shame legislation wise.

We were looking for a spot of fish & Chips upon our visit to the Isle of White, stumbled across this place and it did NOT dissapoint! The food was amazing at a very reasonable price, the customer service was also excellent, the owner was extremely helpful and the girls behind the counter were so helpful nothing was too much. Would most definitely visit again!

We had veggie burgers, chips and onion rings and they were all cooked beautifully. Don't usually leave reviews but was a must. very happy customers

I must add that I have never been offered the opportunity to ask for a particular way with which I would like my food prepared. I asked for crispy chips, if possible, and I was delighted with the result, rarely do I finish all my chips when ordering from anywhere but these were delicious.

We got off the train at ryde directly opposite the codfather, walked in, and was served straight away. The food was absolutely amazing with the chips being a particular highlight, another plus was the choice of a battered Mars bar for pudding aswell, the price and quick service were really good aswell, I genuinely couldn't recommend them enough an absolute must if you're in Ryde 👍

Average on food. Cod OK. Batter not so good. Seating area poor and not clean with an overflowing rubbish bin nearby that smelled as though it was also used for food waste.

A really tasty cheeseburger 1/4 pounder and possibly the best chips on the island

Not only was my food late I had to watch the delivery driver put his hands all over my food as it fell out of the bag bearing in mind I have no idea where this persons hands have been i know accidents happen but at least let the customer pick there own food up out of the warmer bag and put back in the box !

Best fish and chip shop in ryde!

Drop by here for a quick meal. I ordered scampy and chips and my bf had the haddock and chips. The cuury sauce were really tasty as well. It was really delicious and very friendly service from the team. Highly recomended if you ever come to Ryde for holiday.

Your fish is nearly always perfect but the chips are not that great at the moment. I am a good customer please change your chips ! Fresh would be fabulous please ! thank you though for great service though!

£2.80 for about 30 chips (no exaggeration) and they were undercooked, lousy value for money, you get much better for your money elsewhere in Ryde

Quite possibly the best chip shop on the island and definitely has the best vegetarian selection. I totally recommend their vegetarian burger and vegetarian battered sausage too. Curry sauce is outstanding and my fiancée enjoyed her savaloy. Chips are lovely and not greasy like other chippy's. Staff are friendly too.

The lovely delivery person couldn’t find my gate to the front garden. He phoned me and we sorted it, all good, thanks.

Thursday 28th September 2023 16.30. We looked forward to fish and chips on our last night of holiday from The Codfather as we had always enjoyed them from here when we visited the Isle of Wight, Sadly for us it was awful some of the chips weren't cooked and still raw in the centre mushy peas were cold in the middle, fish OK but not what we had come to expect. So disappointed for us and our guests. Will not be returning.

Proper chippy! Everything cooked to order. Decent portion size fish. Not the cheapest on the seafront but definitely the best.

Good banter in the shop prior to ordering, my girlfriend is coeliac, so the offering was limited unfortunately battered sausage or chicken nuggets, she opted for the battered sausage and I had large cod & chips, we sat out side with two cans of cider and enjoyed an hour of eating and watching the world go by.
