It’s re-opened under new management and it’s been worth the wait! The food is great - everything from a cheeky bowl of chips to a Sunday lunch or fine steak is available. Fantastic vegetarian food and they are very accommodating on allergies and preferences. Thursday is steak night and there’s a quiz and bingo on a Sunday evening. A great vibe, warm welcome, and a proper village pub again. Hurrah!

Went for a meal with friends, their pie was cold, the fish cakes inedible, to the point where my friend couldn’t even finish her meal. I had the salmon with mash potato for £18.95 and what I received was the tiniest bit of tail end fish, I mean it was smaller than the palm of my hand, and my mash potato was non exist as they bought out sautéed potatoes which were greasy and quite frankly gross. The food was warm-ish. No one even came over to check if we were happy with it, so couldn’t even query it with staff and they aren’t even busy. Not happy - over priced, underfed and completely dissatisfied - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I could have bought my entire meal from Iceland for half the bloody price. What a bloody joke. If I could give 0 stars I would.

The Wheatsheaf at Oaksey opened again on Thursday under new management. Went round for Sunday lunch, choice of lamb, beef, pork or chicken. We went for the lamb….very good sized portions! Followed up by homemade apple crumble and custard (delicious) and a chocolate brownie. Recommended for food and friendly attentive service!

I love this restaurant, I wish I lived closer! The staff are charming and the Sunday roast is honestly, one of the best I have tasted. The portions sizes are very generous, the belly of pork was cooked to perfection and the roast potatoes were as good as my Mother used to cook and that, is a big compliment! Thank you for a lovely meal in excellent surroundings. Oh and, they are dog friendly which is always as bonus! Ps I love the artwork!

We were a group of friends staying at Lower Mill Estate and wanted a walk to a local pub instead of using onsite restaurant. We had been advised, on phone , twice , that it was walkable. We were all fit and healthy, so gave a it a go. We ended up walking for an hour , on dark country roads with no footpath and felt in danger of our lives. We arrived at pub ready for a warm meal and had pre ordered food from a menu we were sent which in no way reflects one on website. I had garlic mushrooms, four fried mushrooms, mayo and shredded iceberg covered in some kind of dressing. Others had bread an olives, white pitta bread and tinned olives. The chicken burger was like something served in school canteen with frozen chips and purple coleslaw. Looking at menu on website I can only think the chef had a night off , but still charging top prices. Unbelievable BUT service was good and friendly and taxis were found to get us home.

We had dinner tonight here, we are based not too far away and so glad it’s reopened. The new owners have made it feel like a really friendly local pub! It’s great to also have a menu with more than just the traditional Cotswolds offering. We had the jerk pork and brown stew chicken both were really really delicious. Being Londers getting Caribbean food in the countryside is an absolute winner. Can’t wait to go back! Great service, brilliant quality produce and a lovely atmosphere.

I spent a lovely month living in Oaksey. I found the Wheatsheaf on day one and visited once or twice a week for the duration of my stay. By the second visit, at which I enjoyed my first meal, my dogs and I were made to feel like locals. Carol, Ian and their team are so warm and friendly. My visit on 20th October was to meet friends for dinner. I was a little late and by the time I'd got there, my friends were deep in conversation with Carol. I walked in and was welcomed by an old friend, which was wonderful. I didn't get the young woman's name, but she remembered some of the stuff I'd wittered on about in my previous visit and asked me how things had gone. I spent a lot of time on my own in Oaksey, working, but moments like this made me feel "recognised". And it felt authentic; these guys genuinely like people! The food here is delicious, with a good range of options to choose from. One of my "20th October" friends is a pretty severe coeliac and she was able to enjoy a dish that met her dietary needs. Some key indicators for me of good cooking were in evidence here: pasta is al dente, vegetables (notably broccoli) has a crunch and isn't soggy. The meals themselves take a little while to come, which is suggestive of things being cooked fresh rather than being re-generated. I'd add that they seem to keep the beer well here. I like a pint of cask ale if I can get it and I had nothing but joyful flavours from all the pints I enjoyed. It's worth making a trip here if you're in the area and looking for an intimate, friendly pub-based meal.

So my friends and I have just visited The Wheatsheaf and had such a fabulous meal , Ian and his colleague (sorry forgotten already !) made us so welcome , Ian greeted us as we walked in and was super friendly and such a happy person which immediately put us at ease and made us really comfortable. The food was gorgeous I had fish and chips which was super tasty finished off with sticky toffee pudding which was absolutely scrumptious . The decor is really gorgeous and the pictures on the wall are so fab ! We are here on holiday however when we are in the area again we will definitely pop in as we enjoyed it so much ! We had been recommended this pub by a friend so were excited to try it out. On arrival we where told where are table was, so we got our drinks and sat down. It was cold so I kept my poncho on the whole time I was there. My husband was also cold and considered asking to be moved. My husband had the fish & chips, the mushy peas were dry and the fish small served with frozen chips.I had the smoked salmon Scotch egg which was nice but I found two bones in it. I then had the scallops, the first bite there was a loud crunch so much so my husband who was sat opposite heard it. Grit I think and then the onion purée was just awful, my husband asked to try it and he had grit as well & described a chemical taste. Needless to say I did not eat the last of the three scallops!!Drinks were expensive at £5 for a pint of Camden Hells & £8 for a large rose.Despite informing the waitress of my disappointment with the scallops no reduction of the bill was offered. We paid & left without leaving a tip.I would also recommend you change your play list, Kung foo fighting is probably not the best thing for back ground music.
