Our 3rd consecutive visit here. The food is freshly prepared, fish and seafood dishes are the best we've experienced. The tiramisu is to die for! Service was excellent, chef even prepared dish without garlic for my mum - quite difficult when eating Italian!

Nothing special from the outside and not initially inside but then when greeted by Signor Ciampi and things rapidly look up ! Food is freshly prepared so you may wait to wait 15 minutes but it is worth the wait. There were a dozen 'specials' on the board, each with it's own chef's variations making the choice extensive (and difficult !) Near to the A1 but only one way into the village (near the historic WW11 Tempesford airfield with interesting historic pictures on the walls.) - well worth seeking out.

Firstly, we had decent service, felt that they looked after us, but really the food was okay, but just okay. My husband's garlic mushrooms didn't taste much of garlic. I had liver and bacon but the liver was really tough and only served with peas and a couple of potatoes, no other veg at all. The pasta dishes that my granddaughter and daughter had were nice no problem there. I just felt that it could have been better with a little thought. We would go again but I would hope that it could improve on a few things

The only pleasant thing about this place is the young lady front of house. The Italian owner is obnoxious and rude and he will be the death of his own business. do not put fish & chips on a menu and then serve terrible frozen breaded re constituted rubbish and then try and justify it when there is a complaint. Equally don’t try and justify it by saying it’s an Italian restaurant when there is nothing to say it’s an Italian restaurant other than a few pasta and pizza dishes on the menu. But it’s ok because he offered for me to only pay £10 instead of £15!!! I did give feedback when I started eating that it was terrible and I did eat my chips and peas because I was so hungry and have nowhere else to go as I am staying in a b&b in the area. Literally the weirdest and worst place I have ever eaten and I’ve eaten out a lot. I feel for the young lady that has to work here she could do better! Needles to say I will never return and I’m sure he is pleased of that because I stood up for myself and he didn’t like that.

Have been to The Wheatsheaf on several occasions. Each time the food and service has been excellent. The chef is wonderful and has often cooked us something that is not on the menu. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. Nothing is too much trouble. Well done to all concerned, you are doing a great job.

All pasta dishes and freshly made pizzas were perfect. A lovely, friendly Italian family and an Italian chef too. There were 9 of us for a birthday meal. English dishes were great too with a fantastic homemade steak and ale pie which is highly recommended (and I am going to have the next time we visit as had pie-jealousy), the gammon, egg and chips were great too as was the New Yorker chicken. Nice wines to choose from as well. 5 stars all round from all the family of all ages.

We live locally and eat out every weekend. We hadn’t been to The Wheatsheaf since the previous owners were there and the last time was so bad, it was funny. Anyway, as the recent owners had had mixed reviews, we thought we would try it and make up our own minds. The bad review with the “little madam” well, I think that statement alone sums them up! On arrival we were shown straight to our table where we ordered our drinks. This is now common practice - every restaurant locally now do this, you don’t order your drink before you sit down. The place was spotlessly clean and the serving staff were polite and efficient. Good choice of food which was well presented and very good. Prices were fine and portions were larger than expected. We would definitely visit again.

We live in the village and have been to the Wheatsheaf more in the few months Pep and his team have been running the place than in the few years since we moved to Tempsford. Not surprising really as the place was usually closed when we walked over or the chef was wanting to go home, none of that now with a friendly welcome every time. We try and go weekly but have been busy over the last month or so. Carlo and Pep are determined to ensure everyone is happy and if you want something the best thing is to ask them, not put negative reviews on here afterwards. The place has a lovely friendly atmosphere now and there is a nice group of locals using the bar more and more. The food is amazing, although we have a bone to pick with Carlo the Chef in that we tried his desserts last time we were over and even more hooked now! We do feel mostly sorry for the other local pubs that we have stopped going to now we can just walk up the road, something we didn’t do with the old owners. Good on you guys, keep up the good work. If you want a lovely friendly place with great food this is your place and if you want something just ask, they even do deliveries now especially of the most amazing authentic Italian pizzas

This is the second time we have been to this restaurant since it changed hands & both times the food has been amazing & the staff attentive & friendly. The first time we went we were a little dubious as we had been told it was new owners & they had changed the menu so it was now only a pizza & pasta restaurant. It was true that the menu was smaller but there was still a choice of different dishes including English cuisine. However the Italian chef was so nice & actually made me a meal not on the menu (tagliatelle chicken in creamy sauce, which was AMAZING). After the meal he came out to see us to make sure we had enjoyed the food. Not often you get a chef who cares enough to do that! During his chat with us I mentioned I had tried my first pana cotta the week before when in a London restaurant & although that dessert was not on his menu he said if we were ever to return if I phoned a couple of days before he would make it for me specially- what chef would usually offer to do that??!! We went back for the second time this evening but it wasn’t a planned visit, long day out & too tired to go home to cook, so sadly I hadn’t phoned ahead to request pana cotta. But the food we had was so lovely I wasn’t even disappointed I hadn’t been able to request that particular dessert. There was four of us and we all had different meals & they were all lovely! I would recommend the Italian dishes because the chef is Italian & there’s nothing as great as authentic cooked food. But the other 3 people I was with all had English dishes & all said how nice they were. Desserts were great too. The chef came out to see us again to make sure we enjoyed our meals & actually remembered us & the pana cotta- how lovely is that! The young lady that served us was attentive & friendly. We could not recommend this restaurant & the food enough!

We live in the village and try to frequent as often as we can. We have had several meals, as well as several quick evening Pizza's. The food is wonderful, the staff are helpful and good to talk to. The owner Pep, is trying his best to give people what they want and want's nothing more than to have his customers go home happy and satisfied with their stay. Well done to all of you, you get 10/10 from us. Looking at some of the comments, we feel people are not giving it a chance. Food from the previous owners, was what we call pinged food and was pre made and frozen, then microwaved to order. Although the food was nice and the amount of food was enormous, it was not freshly made. The new chef "Carlo" prides himself on good quality freshly made food coming out of his kitchen and we like that idea. The food is great and if you particularly like Italian food, this is the place to visit.

We came for a friend’s birthday. Fortunately she has a fantastic sense of humour and we will certainly never forget our visit. We were unsure about staying when we entered. It did not look like the photos but decided to give it a chance. The young man who greeted us was polite and did offer us a child’s seat (We did have a child with us, he wasn’t being facetious). The seat sadly was filthy but baby wipes to the rescue. We had decided to leave when our youngest cohort loudly declared she loved chips and a gentleman brought her some on a napkin-we were then sold by this kind gesture and decided to stay. We each had a steak and little madam had fish fingers...well..at £14 a steak, I expected it to be reasonable, sadly they were the quick fry types you can get four for £4.99 at Aldi and eat in a sandwich, served with 5 million chips and absolutely nothing else. Zero. Zilch. No peas, mushrooms, tomatoes, nothing, not even a steak knife. Little lady would not eat her fish fingers...no one could blame her, they were deep fried, rock solid and god knows if they contained fish or not (she got peas mind you). Ever the optimists (and with it being a birthday) we ordered cake for two of us and ice cream for two of us. The adult served with ice cream and a teaspoon was most amused. Cake comes with a soup spoon...should you request it. The cake was still frozen...you get the drift. Never mind, chalk it up we laughed, til we got the £76 bill for the worst meal we’d ever eaten (we had three cokes and a fruit shoot-can’t even blame the booze)! Nevertheless. All paid up, we went for the mandatory wee before you get in the car...the toilet was soaking; I flushed it and water poured down the outside of the cistern (I have a video if you’re interested in this phenomenon). We did tell them but were assured they were plumbers, which might explain the terrible attempt at a pub/restaurant. Please avoid at all costs. Having now read all these reviews, it’s clear that the good reviews are not for this bunch. Someone call Gordon Ramsey!!!

We are staying in a motorhome very near to Wheatsheaf prior to heading off to Europe for a year or two. So essentially, Wheatsheaf is our go to place for lunch or dinner (sometimes twice in one day) . All I can say is that after about 15 meals there would highly recommend. We did have one less than perfect meal - fish and chips - and chef/owner were so distraught that they have made amendmends to same. Pizzas some of the best ever have (and my daughter in law who lives in the local village and a food teacher says they are the best ever) . Would highly recommend - staff are lovely. Food good. And if there is a problem raise with the chef. Tempsford is one of those fast disappearing villages in UK and hats off to the guys trying to keep it alive. . Aand there's lots of interesting things to discover locally in terms of cycle rides, base of the SOE (Special Operations Executive) who through the bravery of people who flew from this tiny village basically saved UK being invaded and took great risks to prepare the ground for the eventual invasion of Europe).

Tonight's meal was so disappointing in so many ways. We hadn't realised before we arrived the Wheatsheaf had been taken over by new management. But upon arrival whereas normally in the past under the old regime we would be asked about drinks before being seated tonight we were ushered straight to our table and told they will take the drinks orders when seated, which was fine, but we had no idea of what drinks they had on tap? For a Friday night the place was near empty and straight away we were concerned, our table was right next to the kitchen door and also next to a cutlery cupboard whereby on and off during our meal we were disturbed by staff standing right next to the end of our table as they rummaged around looking for cutlery, a couple of awkward glances and we were offered the odd apology. Why were we seated there when so many tables were empty? Before the meal arrived a bucket was placed on the table by a couple who said they were collecting money for a cancer charity and could we give generously? No I.D. was offered or licence shown, no money was given. Who's idea was that to disturb customers with a so called charity collection? The meal was of poor quality and worse than Wetherspoons. The egg yolk on the gammon was overcooked and hard, it was also broken as when being cooked the yolk had run over the white before being over cooked and it looked crap, We did complain at the time and they said they would mention it to the chef, no mention of a replacement and by this time we had enough and just wanted to leave. The gammon was salty and near black underneath where it had been overcooked, it was also tough, the peas like bullets and chips were dry and tasteless, lasagna served was tasteless and burnt black to the bottom of the dish, it came with two thin slices of French stick and that was it. Cottage pie was upside down, tasteless and served with chips?? Already came with mash. The salad on the last meal was limp and sparse. The wine was very expensive and of poor quality, we had no idea what it was even when we asked.

Second visit, my husband had a lovely meal on our first visit so we decided to go back. I had mozzarella and tomatoes, poor quality cheese and tasteless, my husband had prawns and avocado, again no flavour. I opted for lasagne as I thought being Italian it would be good, again bland and no flavour with very little meat. My husband had liver and bacon and again his was lacking in flavour. He did have tiramasui and said it was delicious. I thought charging £3.50 for a lime juice and soda was ott! Cannot complain about the staff as they were very attentive and friendly. I would reduce the size of the menu and have quality of quantity.

We used to visit fairly regularly before the change if ownership, loving the location and good value english food. Well we are pleased to say that we will be visiting regularly again with this management!! The menu is smaller but a very balenced split between English and Italian. Many traditional dishes from both countries. The front of house staff were excellent and we were greeted warmly and drink orders taken promptly. My husband chose the New York chicken with roast potatoes and lovely seasonal veg, our friend had the Chicken Balti and I had the Salmon Risotto. These are came out hot and beautifully presented and we all thoroughly enjoyed the dishes. My Risotto was definetly one of the best I have had. Portions were good size. Chris, our waiter then recommended the Chefs speciality dessert - Tiramasu - this was a generous portion of heaven on a plate!! This was an early birthday treat for myself and it was a great experience, so we whole heartedly recommend this place. Well done to Carlo the chef, Chris the waiter and Joey the bar man!!

Our first visit and we were not disappointed. The dining room is very spacious and is suitable for disabled visitors although there is a small step to negotiate. There's a wide choice of food available and three out of the four of us were very satisfied with our meals - the spaghetti with shellfish was deemed to be outstanding, there were no complaints (!) about the roast and the lasagne was good. The only downside was with the rack of ribs which were a bit tough. Puddings were good - would recommend the tiramisu.

Me and my family went to the Wheatsheaf for a meal recently and we had a great time. The food was good quality, the portion sizes were great, service was fantastic, and we had no problems. We were sitting next to another family and they felt the need to complain when they had eaten all their food, drank all their drinks and were overall happy and were just looking for money off their bill. All the servers were extremely attentive and were all very friendly. The chef even came out to speak to us to see how everything was and to make sure we were all happy. We got our drinks at the bar and the lady on the bar was friendly, we were then taken to our table by another waitress, where we were given our menus and told about the range of specials on their board. While we were eating the waitresses checked up on us a few times to make sure we were all happy and when everyone had finished their meals the table was cleared and we moved onto desserts, teas and coffees. The desserts again were a good portion size, not too much but not too little, and again staff very attentive. Don’t see why anyone would have a problem with anything at this restaurant whether it’s changed hands or not, because everything was fantastic. Seems to me other people just don’t like paying their full bill whether they’re happy or not. Overall, a fantastic evening and would 100% recommend and will be back very soon.

Unfortuately the place has new owners and our meals didn't come up to expectations. Not many meals on the specials board, that didn't bother us too much as there was still plenty to choose from. One of the meals came with roast potatoes and veg, these were hard. I had a sirloin steak which came with chips and salad, chips were dry and salad wasn't good, No mushrooms, onion rings or grilled tomatoe which you would normally get when ordering steak, have to admit they weren't on the menu. Anoher meal was spare ribs which didn't have much meat on them. On the plus side the waitress couldn't do enough for us. The menu is vast so think they could scale it down but we all had something different and there were various ages amongst us and everyone was happy with their meal. It's not the best meal I've ever had but for the price and not having to pre order it was great. The pub is a little shabby in places but the staff were lovely and that accounts for a great deal in my opinion.

Terrible service when I said it was not a good experience I was met with torrent of abuse from someone who claimed to be the manager. Found out current owner had left that day. I was told I could get out if I didn't like it. I will never go back . Chose them for this meal as had previously been good. Will be writing to the brewery.

Went for lunch , service very good, food quality very good, speed of service very good , everything was good apart from the dreadful music blasting out from speaker above us. it was like something from a heavy music rock concert. and no its not up to me to ask to have it turned down you should check and chose your music to be more appropriate when eating.

Friendly staff however, very few customers. People on next table were not charged for a main meal after they complained it was not cooked. One of our mains was dropped in the kitchen, salad and bread brought separately and then the main a few mins later! Chips that were ordered had been forgotten and fryer turned off. We were not charged for this meal and staff apologetic but barely any customers and two meals not charged for is no way to run a business. Overall, the place has gone down hill, cold rooms, scruffy loos, and quantity over quality. Just feels as if landlord, who I have never seen, is going through the motions of doing just enough to get along.

We were warned that the portions would be large but didn’t realise how big they were, even the dishes from the ‘smaller portions’ menu were big. We ordered a Camembert and expected it to be normal-sized yet we received 2 small circles.

We decided to see if we could get a table one Friday evening, we hadn't booked but as we hadn't booked we weren't sure we would get one. However, the staff were very helpful & although we couldn't get a table in the main bar we were found a table and had a wonderful meal. The meals are freshly cooked, plenty of lovely hot & well presented food at reasonable prices. We will definitely be going back and would recommend to anyone. Plenty of choice in meals so all tastes can be catered for!

The Wheatsheaf is an excellent place for a BIG meal. The portions are big, piping hot, massive side salad. Something for all tastes. I have never had a bad meal here.Highly recommend the Tuna Pasta Bake. The staff are friendly, helpful & bend over backwards to please.A varied menu.Big portions with a good price tag. Just one thing, if you are going here for a meal, do not eat anything else before hand, go starving, come out full. Could not rave enough about here.

Been here several times now, its our go to food pub when in the area. Its huge variety of pub food makes it an easy choice, but if you add the 2nd world war history its a no brainer. Based around the old base at Tempsford there is a story to tell about SOE and the agents about to be transported into France, some never to return! the story is told around the walls and at the memorial just outside. Worth a visit for that alone but the good honest pub food and plenty of it is delicious. Be it steaks, mixed grills, ham and eggs or a multitude of other choices the quality is constant hence our regular return! I defy you to make a pud at least we never have!

The Wheatsheaf is amazing. Staff are friendly, the food you get is incredibly tasty, priced well and do not have to wait long for it. Promptly served and would happily go here again and already booked to go again next month for Father’s Day 🙂

Warm and welcoming staff and excellent atmosphere, arrived a little early but was seated very quickly, we were a table of four and each choose something different, my husband had steak and rib combo and the only fault was the steak was slightly over cooked for his liking but I’ve never seen him leave a morsel of food but it beat him. I have a PRAWN SALAD WHICH WAS DELICIOUS , mum and dad had the smaller portions of the roast which was still more than enough, really enjoyed the evening

Wonderful efficient service with great food, an extensive menu in an historical location, at a fair price. Portions if anything are too huge for the average diner!

Came for a small family meal, was very busy with a large group and several other groups. Didn’t seem to be enough staff to cope with the amount of diners. The food was of an ‘okay’ standard, certainly not their usual excellence but again I put that down to it being perhaps a little too busy.

Visited the Wheatsheaf for a family reunion and was very impressed. The service was excellent from two attentive and friendly waitresses. The menu was extensive, when daily specials were taken into account, and the food arrived surprisingly quickly bearing in mind the number of customers, it was bursting at the seams. The food was tasty and hot. All in all a most enjoyable experience. If I had to find a downside it would be the restricted on site parking but there is ample space on the road.

We were a group of 6 mature adults who booked here for a Tuesday lunch. There is plenty of car parking here and also there is parking on the road with no time restrictions. We were greeted in an appropriate manner and our drinks order was taken straight away. They arrived promptly. There was a choice of menus and more or less any reasonable request off menu could be catered for. One of our party had raging toothache and they served a beautiful omelette with beans. Most satisfying. Steak, curry, liver and bacon were all served and everyone agreed it was the best they'd had for a long time. Prices were very fair, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Including drinks and a bottle of wine the bill for six of us amounted to £110.00 which we felt was very good value for money. The staff............... table and bar service was excellent with very pleasant staff. The kitchen staff must be mentioned as the meals were prepared and served to perfection and were very large portions. So well done everyone, this was our first visit and we will certainly be dining with you again. Thank you.

Have visited this pub on several occasions and always felt they served good pub grub, however on our latest visit things seemed to have slipped. The lasagne, from the 'small meal' menu, whilst reasonably tasty, was quite sloppy, it was served in an oblong dish on a round plate which also contained a large portion of salad, not a good look to be honest as the lasagne was slopping over the side of the dish due to the plate being too small for it to sit level. The chunk of half a baguette could have been cut into slices or at least been served with a knife able to cut through it. I had ordered from the small meal menu as I don't like my food piled high, this meal was sufficient for two. Husband had the fish medley, again not the best presentation and the batter was quite gloopy and undercooked on some of the fish. I'm hoping the waitress was new and will improve with time, she was pleasant enough but didn't return to the table to see if everything was ok. I was asked when paying if everything was ok but when I said it was just about ok no questions were forthcoming as to what the problem was. Jury is out on how long before we return.

Where do i start. Popped in here one Sunday for lunch , big portions, but the meal wasrubbish, service was poor, was cramped into a little room. As we were leaving another couple came in and sat at a tablle and were asked had they booked , they had but they were unaware of the booking , the table wasnt ready and when they served the drinks they sais they were short of glasses . You get the picture dont bother go somewhere else.

Long time since I visited the Wheatsheaf but stopped here last week for lunch. The service was quick and friendly and the lunchtime menu had plenty of choice. I had a cheeseburger (v. good) and my friend had a baked potato (also apparently v. good). What surprised us, though, was the accompanying salad; This came contained within an iceberg lettuce leaf and we kept finding different things within, for example cubes of cheese. So pleasant to find an establishment that uses proper lettuce rather than the usual 'leaves', a description that sums them up! If you want a light lunch the salad on its own would be quite fulfilling!

Typical Wetherspoons, like a TARDIS, small on the outside but large on the inside, with lots of space and tables scattered around the building. Only popped in for breakfast as I was visiting the area. Service good and fast.

- Sells nice drinks including milkshakes and frappes. They have a nice variety of drinks.- Food is average at best, best to just get a drink from there rather then to eat there as it is a small business.- Staff is welcoming and friendly.- Comfortable seats to enjoy a drink.-Not enough staff working at Coffee Licious, and that can cause a bit of fuss
