Nice enough pub/hotel, if a little threadbare. Ordered 2 Sunday dinners, my wife loved her pork, I ordered the beef and 50% was fat and inedible. I did point it out but it fell on deaf ears unfortunately. I won’t be back, but my wife may go on her own! Oh, and the beer is pricey.

My mum and I came in and decided to have the roast beef Sunday lunch, it arrived very quickly and looked lovely, however when we started to cut the beef we soon realised it was fatty and extremely tough! The waitress didn’t come back to see if things were ok until we’d nearly finished eating and when I complained about the meat she apologised and said did we want some more beef or a different meat, having nearly finished all the veg etc this wasn’t of any use ! Said she would speak to the manager! Mum barely touched her beef that we paid over £18 for! Plates collected , nothing said, had a desert, nothing said! Asked for bill, nothing said so I asked the waitress if she’d mentioned it to her manager and she said yes he said there was nothing he could do! On the way out I mentioned it to the manager and he said they had offered more or different meat but as I explained to him we’d nearly finished the meal so no good! Basically I felt he couldn’t care less and customer satisfaction didn’t seem to bother him! Definitely won’t be returning for Sunday dinner anytime soon which is a shame as everything else was really nice today and in the past when we’ve had food .

Great service. Good breakfast apart from the sausages. We’ve been for breakfast three times now with our family when they visit. First visit the sausages were superb. Not the case the last two times. Breakfast could have done with being warmer. Love that you can help yourself to continental items with “The works” breakfast. Wish black pudding wasn’t included and were offered alternatives as a matter of course. Kids breakfast great value for money. Warm and friendly setting and love the garden in the summer for our grandson although play area could do with more equipment.

Will not be returning. Not sure if it was the manager or the person in charge on Sunday evening. He more or less threw the menus at us. He was rude to staff to the point where my husband told a member of staff he didn’t like his attitude. The food wasn’t hot and considering there was a 30% discount on mains was still expensive. The one saving grace was the sweets were lovely. Also wine £12 a glass. It’s a pity, as we were staying in the area. Had we had a good experience we would have probably returned for another meal.

If you like cheap frozen food that takes 5 minutes from freezer to plate. You will be fine. My husbands chicken burger was so iver cooked the cob was covered in extra sauce to make it moist. Which made the bread soppy. Chips were the cheapest and cooked so they were hard. The slaw was soggy and we have both been unwell with tummy ache. The staff were friendly though. Not much choice for Vegan or GF. Wallpaper hanging off and mould in the dining room.

Visited twice this month, food was okay, I’d say not value for money for food as nothing sparkling and kids meals were basic, especially the garlic bread which was as a quarter of a roll, which was over toasted. The play park is lovely as is garden and the bar staff Sunday were nice , but service from staff serving outside on both occasions was poor, the staff had zero customer service and today the young girl was rude and miserable

We stayed for 2 nights, having stayed here several times before. As always, the staff are welcoming and helpful and greet all customers with a friendly attitude. Our room was clean and comfortable - could do with hooks or a towel rail in the bathroom to dry the towels, but otherwise everything good. The food is delicious! Our waiter - so sorry Monsieur, I can't remember your name - was excellent 👌 and added to our experience. We will be back!! Top tip - book direct at the hotel or on the Marstons website to get 20%off evening meals and 10%off breakfast. 😉

The pub was fairly quiet when we entered at 6:15. Ordered drinks at the bar. Shown to a table. Told to order food at the bar. We ordered steak pie and a prawn tagliatelle. After a 30min wait I went to the bar re delay in food. Informed that the pie was prepared fresh and it takes 30 mins. Went back to our table and saw another couple who had come in after us served with the same meal. After 50 mins went back to the bar. Waitress was just coming out with our meals. The tagliatelle looked as if it had been sat under the heater. Looked very small. Cost £19.95. Steak pie was sat on small amount of mash with the smallest amount of pies you have ever seen. Cost £16.95. Refused the meal and got a refund. Service poor. Food not worth the price!!

I have been seriously ill for months and recently starting to feel a bit better - we only live a few miles away and visited the nearby Chatsworth House on my birthday. I wasn't up to driving far and have had good meals here before so it was a perfect place for two nights as a first social outing for six months and getting used in public to a medical device I now have. When we arrived I was using a walking stick and the member of staff who booked us in kindly carried our luggage up to the room for us - a nice start to the trip. The room was comfortable and meals up to the usual high quality for both evening and breakfast. All staff were pleasant and made sure we had a great stay. Oh - and a decent pint of beer - Pedigree. An excellent stay and highly recommended.

The two of us ordered the three course lunch menu for £18 each. The first course came and all ok. Tue 2nd course was fish and chips and we thought “wow the fish is big , it was meant to be coujons” we thought no more of it. We had desert with a cup of tea. I paid the bill and walked out. Then realised that the £67 bill should have been about £45. I went back to discuss and the the front of house said that we had the full fish and chips and not the coujons that we had ordered. He said it was the waitresses fault. The front of house guy was French we think and to be honest had a real bad attitude from the moment we walked in. Not very welcoming, snappy and not customer friendly. Rather than get into a big argument that probably would get the waitress into trouble I just walked out. The front of house didn’t even offer to put the matter right or apologise. Very poor customer service. Be assured we will not be returning again and will not advise any of my friends or colleagues to visit either.

We would highly recommend the Wheatsheaf knowing that you would be well looked after. We looked forward to returning and dining at the Wheatsheaf as we have memories with parents from many years ago. We were soon to be very dissapointed by our choice. I must say firstly the staff were excellent, polite, friendly and very obliging. I had...

We all had Sunday lunch. Meat was nice, but the veg was hard, parsnips looked microwaved, green beans didn't even have the hard stem removed. Also, on previous visit for a drink, one if the waitresses was openly rude to people.

Lovely dog friendly pub with good food after a long walk in the Peak District. Lisa was a wonderful server! Very attentive.

We were a pet free traveling couple who were very impressed with the cleanliness of the room and ensuite it was spotless given that they do allow pets to stay. Every request from parking early to gluten free breakfast (I’m coeliac) was accommodated faultless stay no negatives to report would stay again

Came for dinner. The mains and desert were brilliant. The owner’s response to reviews: glorious Would happily come again and recommend to friends

It was a huge disappointment. I had planned a relaxing spa day with my husband, but this place was nothing like a real spa. There were only two small cabins with a sauna and jacuzzi, hidden away in a scruffy corner of the hotel. Lounge chairs were awkwardly placed in the hallway. The outdoor pool was freezing, and of course, we got the usual speech about it being a "health pool," but that was just an excuse—it was simply a regular pool exposed to the rain. The lockers in the changing room didn’t even have keys. The moment I saw it all, I felt like crying.

Great place to stay, would come here again. After seeing quite a few negative reviews, we were nervous about staying here, but we only have positive comments to make - lovely cosy little room, great shower, nice view over the village. Downstairs in the bar area looks really nice. We stayed on a Friday and it was lovely and quiet, no bands. I had no problem booking through wowcher (although I had to phone to sort it after having no reply via email). All staff friendly and accommodating. Had a lovely breakfast before we left and the owner was happy to let us leave the car for a few hours so that we could do a walk to Milldale (also asked if we needed directions).
