Nice pub nice atmosphere and surroundings. Bar staff extremely friendly especially the young lady who served me. Will definitely return.

This is a great pub for pub food. The new menu is great loving the fries and the chicken bacon and avocado wrap was delicious 😋 We saw lots of other meals coming out all looked nice

Absolutely terrible AVOID at all costs where do I even begin - we thought we'd try somewhere different for Sunday lunch we booked but there was absolutely no need, we were a party of five the place itself looked quite nice albeit very cold there was no heat on and although April it was like winter outside, we ordered 3 specials belly pork one chicken dinner and one duo of meats, two soups, one chicken wings and the other opted for Eton mess all off the set menu. After a very long wait our soup arrived it was luke warm and watery, when the waitress gave it us she commented do you want the Eton mess after your mains ermmm well yes! The wings were nice and hot so we had hope .....Another long wait began we ordered at 5.30 by 6.30 our meals had not arrived we went up the bar to ask how much longer?the barman, one of two who had been out for a fag twice already at the front of the pub in full view of customers - in the time we had been there said he would go and check and disappeared, we sat back down he went back to the bar and continued serving he never even came to tell us what was happening? 10 minutes later so 1 hour 10 minutes after we had ordered my husband spoke to the other man serving asked again and said the other barman was supposed to be checking? He was gone a good while when he finally came back we were told he was very sorry but there had been a problem in the kitchen and he had had to put another chef on! So we had been there since 5 it was now 7 pm and we asked for a full refund which has yet to be received! We walked out of that place in disbelief we would not return even if they paid us to!

I love this pub, absolutely Brilliant, lovely staff, lovely atmosphere, the food is gorgeous, I now go to the westacres frequently

I have commented on this establishment before and nothing has changed. Staff are extremely friendly and know what they're doing. The manager is a character who spend as much time as he can with the customers which in my opinion is a very good thing. The beer and food is always impeccable and all needs are catered for. Dogs are welcome which is a bonus compared to other pubs and snacks and water for them are available. Can't say enough about this pub, I will be coming here as long as the management stay the same.

Had my anniversary party at the westacres. Matt and the team couldn't have done a better job! The whole night and atmosphere was fantastic! The food was superb 👌 we will definitely be having another party here again soon. Thank you for making our night amazing 👏

Excellent staff excellent service, can’t fault the team they are so friendly and attentive you can really tell they are dedicated to the pub. Food was fab as always and came quickly. Waitress checked back in with us to make sure everything was ok. Had desserts and coffees to finish off a great night overall.

We came to the pub primarily for the legendary quiz night which everyone should give a go at least once but now regularly eat there with friends. The staff are one of the friendliest teams around and happy to help no matter how busy it gets. The menu is typical pub food, there is a good selection so everyone should be able to find something they like. The portions are a good size making it value for money.

Had an amazing time at the quiz on Thursday. Really fun and a nice atmosphere. Food came quickly despite it being relatively busy and never had to wait at the bar for a drink.

We came for my moms birthday to play bingo and she had the best time. All of our family and friends came along and enjoyed it. Food was great, service was superb and Matt was brilliant as the bingo caller! Can’t recommend it enough - especially on a Monday for bingo!!

It was my birthday. The food was excellent and our party which included a couple of smaller children, were made extremely welcome. All the staff were very polite and nothing was too much for them. I’ve been a few times this month already and it’s only the 5th.

Came in on bank holiday Monday for the pubs brand new bingo and it was great. The staff were attentive and friendly. The manager was welcoming and a great host and the food was fantastic. Will definitely come with the family again

Upon arrival the staff was not welcoming and did not appear interested in wanting us at the pub. Order starters and mains at 3.15pm and starter did not arrive until at 3:50pm so already the service is terrible which explain why most tables were empty. Food when it did arrive was warm and I ordered the tomato soup which was watery. It was my wife’s birthday and went there as wanted to support local pub but will not go back to eat, so disappointed. Ordered pudding (caramel apple crumble and custard) and had to cancel because it too long to arrive. Overall service poor and slow. Will never go ever again, do not recommend. Not worth the money…

We ordered 2 drinks at the bar and the service was excellent, professional and polite. We both ordered 'Posh fish and chips' ( Sea bass), it was served quite quickly, lovely presentation and tasted delicious. The waitress asked if we needed anything else when the meal was served and during the meal she came over and asked if everything was satistactory. A really enjoyable evening.

Ordered our meal at 4.30, starters arrived at 5.25, mains at 6.25. Food was I overcooked but cold! Vegan burger was served without chips, but the waitress said this was because they weren't vegan! It is not stated on the menu. It was an absolutely awful experience.

Terrible service, most tables empty and service still slow. Food when it did arrive was ok, frozen roast potatoes served. Pudding didn't even arrive!!! Will never go ever again, do not recommend.

Amazing food! Amazing service.! Clean and tidy! It's such a beautiful building. Why wouldn't you want to enjoy a meal in nice historic location. Oh and the casks ales are to die for. Obviously a well kept cellar as well to boot!!!!

Me and the wife went to the dog and gun a few weeks ago only one real ale that was cloudy waited 45 minutes for food wasn't what we had ordered and to be told they were out of what we had ordered waiting staff and bar staff not helpful and ignorant food not to any decent standard then a friend recommended the westacres which is part of the same pub chain and only a short distance away but they are world's apart the young lady behind the bar who served me with our drinks and food order was very friendly and helpful food came pretty quickly and was what we had ordered and was hot you knew the staff were there but they weren't over attentive we will recommend the westacres to everyone we know on the other hand tell people we don't like to go to the dog and gun we will be back again and again i wish i had got the name of the young lady who served us thank you to the bar staff and the chef and kitchen staff for a lovely lunch time

We'd booked online for 4pm and wanted to order from the daytime menu. However, I was told the chef has not turned up that day, and there would be a wait before getting our food as they were waiting for another chef to arrive st 4.30pm! I said as long as we weren't charged the evening rate that would be fine. The food arrived at around 5pm. The food itself was just OK, but my sister's avocado on toast was not even OK! The toast was cold and my linguine was quite bland. I left a good portion of it. I'd ordered a sweet as part of the two courses. The dirty plates remained on our table for a good half hour before I myself moved them to another table. After 45 minutes and still no sweet, I had to ask at the bar for it to be brought out! Then I had another 10 minute wait but the guy did apologise at this stage. The sweet was very nice though. I needed the RADAR keynfor the accessible toilet on the ground floor only to be told by the bar staff that it was missing, so had to trudge upstairs in the end. I have both a heart and lung condition and this made it difficult for me. I had not been to the Westacres for two years when, unfortunately, I had a similar experience with respect to the food quality and service times and sadly, it looks like things HAVE NOT improved at all! It's a great shame as back in the day, The Westacres was a lovely place to visit both in terms of food quality, ambience and service....but not now.

Just popped in for lunch with friends. It's been years since we last visited but I can quite honestly say it was very good. They even had Theakstons Old Peculiar on draught and that was perfection! We had the light bites and were all perfectly satisfied. It makes a change nowadays to come away from somewhere and think 'that was good value for money'

Really enjoyed our visit here. Caught up with a friend, lovely atmosphere, staff were busy, but service was great and the staff were very polite. Food was lovely too.

Went for Xmas dinner with friends, it was a fantastic meal, front of house (on the day) had a fantastic sense of humour too & is well suited to the job, all staff were pleasant & there's a cracking pint too!

Changed now. They have a pool table and allow pets. All good if that's your thing, drinks still taste good though!

Me, my wife and 2 father in law's went for Christmas dinner. Staff were extremely welcoming and polite and very efficient. I have been a chef for 45 years and I can say the food was absolutely excellent. Good value for money. We will be returning very soon. Thank you for a lovely Christmas dinner .

First time at Westacres for many years as previous bad experience. Booked for boxing day only seemed to be 2 staff who were working to their best ability. The pub was not overly busy but after a bad experience with the order at table app...

Booked a table for 8 online which was confirmed by telephone. Took in a deposit for the festive menu and visited The Westacres today. A lovely atmosphere when we came in and greeted by Jacob. The table was laid ready and dressed for Christmas.. After buying drinks we were asked if we were ready for our food which we had pre ordered. Starters came which were well presented and tasted amazing with good sized portions.I had mushrooms with a blue cheese dip. The table was cleared and mains were brought out piping hot, again good sized portions and very tasty. I had sea bream which was cooked to perfection. Staff were attentive and checked we had everything we wanted like condiments. Again, all empty plates, food eaten, with a gap before dessert. The desserts were lovely, I had crumble, some had Xmas pudding, good sized portions. The customer service today was excellent along with all the food at an excellent price. Great prices too for the food from the Festive menu. Thankyou Matt, Jacob and our waitress( young lady with long brown hair. She has great customer service skills) We will be back! Friendly staff, had a mixed grill and my partner a burger, i had a problen with my steak (all cooked perfectly but had fat all through it) however the staff got me another one straight away and was beautiful! Was just the steak not the chefs fault but everything else was perfectly cooked right down to the eggs. Will be returning :)

Two visits in 2 week Superb food. Looks as delicious as it tastes. I can recommend steak,lasagne,lamb Kofta,burgers and steak chiabata . As I'm disabled they never hesitated to carry drinks over . We all had a Sunday lunch. The meal was very tasty and very reasonably priced. There was a vegan option for main and dessert, too, which were very good

We were looked after by Ruby & Harry who were absolutely perfect with impeccable manners and great attention to detail. We had booked on-line and had asked for a quiet table if possible ~ we were seated at Table 16 which was exactly what we wanted. Perhaps the nicest part of the visit was the fact that we were made to feel so welcome when we arrived for our meal at the Westacres.

I always find a decent atmosphere and a clean pub,although I do there's always seems to be something unavailable on the menu.yesterday no cobs for the burger had to have it on ciabater bread and there was no Sunday roast available.and I think menu says chips with the burger but I had to buy a side of chips.

Came here on Sunday 01/10/23 with the family and had the 3 course dinner from the set Sunday Menu and the little one had a child's scampi, My eldest also had the mixed grill The portions were big and everything was fresh! There were 6 wings as a starter, a fresh large Sunday dinner and a decent sized desert. I couldn't believe the size of the kids meal too! We didn't have to wait long for our food and The staff were lovely and our waitress was very polite and friendly. I don't understand why the pub was so quiet, best meal out we have had in a long time. 1 childs 3 cpurse meal, 2 adults 3 course meal a mixed grill, 2 pints and 2 soft drinks for only £70. We will absolutely be back, thank you!

Erin was absolutely charming, lovely & helpful; Matt very kindly tried to accommodate us by trying to put the fire on and Sean the Chef cooked an amazing Medium done steak! The wine was also very good and larger shandy perfect! Thank you!

Standard pub food. Well served and hot.

Food was really nice but service was so slow. Placed order and had to wait nearly an hour for it to come out and it wasn't even busy. Then took a further hour for desserts to arrive.

We go every Thursday for the quiz. Great quiz, very enjoyable. Staff always friendly. Unfortunately they generally stop serving food around 8 pm and quite often run out of several items on the menu.

Told to book.. did so. But when we got there..they had no booking for us in the book..

The atmosphere is what keeps us coming back, the staff are so pleasant and a real asset to Matt the manager. The only thing I would like to see improved is the general decor as it’s a bit tired (but it is always clean)

The food was excellent along with the beer. The service was slow and not up to par. The bar staff seem to want to do other things than serve.

Ruby was our waitress and she was very pleasant cheerful and attentive. The only constructive criticism is the music could have been more relaxing and not so modern.

Went in yesterday having not been in for years and being very local. Ordered a kids meal (for child) and some side portions for myself and a friend. The food came fast and staff were nice. The food portion of the side orders were incredibly small for the price charged.

Have been here for years. Went recently for a birthday lunchtime meal. The food was of a good quality, but my main of grilled sea bass, though delicious, was quite a small meal. Had it also been served with seasonal or appropriate vegetables, instead of a couple of sprigs of asparagus, it would have been perfect.

Sunday lunch was OK, but there was a lot of sprouts. The chocolate sundae was a children's portion.

Great service and amazing food! Great place to visit.
