Delicious Sunday roast, hearty portions of perfectly cooked food. Welcoming staff, definitely one to return to! Never normally try Turkey as find it tasteless but this Turkey was moist and flavoursome. Parsnips and roast potatoes were moreish! Extra gravy brought to the table without request!

The service was very fast and tasted delectable. Our servers Tasha and Mik were extremely helpful and accommodating. We would love to return soon!

Come here most sundays with my son.Lovely food. Pleasant friendly staff always polite. Shows the football premier league etc. Relaxed atmosphire.

Mikail served us and he was very polite throughout our service. He made sure our food was nice and we had everything we needed for our food. The service was quick and the food was lovely.

Overall a good experience, service was fantastic, young lad behind the bar was polite and professional, Washable cleared our table and was very friendly also. Food was really good, only a couple of minor blips, but nothing that spoilt the visit or indeed the meal itself.

Fantastic Friday pub lunch just now. Best fish and chips we've had in ages.

On Monday 2nd September we held our Dad's funeral wake in The function room of The Claregate as it's a pub we know well. The whole thing went brilliantly, the staff were all fantastic and every bit of the buffet was cleared, really nice food! A few friends from nearby were also able to pop in and join us later on for what was a lovely afternoon and evening. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you from us all. 🙏🙂

£4.90 for a can of Guinness Zero… visited for a darts match, same drink cost £3 in our home venue… £13.99 for 12 cans in the shops… £3 to £3.50 in most pubs… no need to be this greedy.. hence only had 1 drink…

Amazing atmosphere, staff and food.

Another nice lunch at the Claregate. We quite often have lunch here on a Friday, and the Claregate staff are always welcoming and friendly. Today's server, Tasha, was friendly, polite and attentive. We both opted for veggie chilli, which was loaded with flavour. Nice to have a familiar place where you can just relax and chat, or watch the sports if you wish. Being dog friendly means you get to meet some lovely guests of the four-legged variety too! We'll be back soon. 🙂

Myself and my daughter came in for mother daughter time and a meal. We were served by lovely bar staff and our waitress tasha was very attentive and polite. We couldn’t have asked for anything more, she was happy to help and was lovely to be served our meal with a bright smile. We utilised the vending machine where you can purchase games and spent a large chunk of our time playing these (we bought 3) and laughing about being so competitive. We will be back soon, we had such a wonderful time. Thankyou to all the employees at Claregate

Unsafe for children an 8x8 decking area has been lend up and fell on my 7 year old son for them to stand there and watch and then they tried to move it as they thought we had left .... dangerous and 2 lasagne came out burnt had to be sent bk

We pop up to the Claregate quite regularly as the pizzas are fantastic. So good in fact, that my fussy 5 year old always clears his plate. We're quite often served by Jon, who is always happy to help with a smile on his face!

We’re regulars and we love a Sunday roast! Just wish they were in stock more often! Brilliant place great atmosphere 10/10 recommend!

We came to this pub on a bit of a loose end as we wanted lunch and most places last minute were fully booked as it was Father’s Day Sunday lunch time. Now I completely appreciate that they were booked in advance for Father’s Day and accommodated us by placing us in the ‘function room’, which was also being used for other Father’s Day people who had booked. Also this review is NOT a reflection on the staff, as the staff were very friendly and very professional and could not do enough to make sure that you were ok and had what you needed. I understand that the pub has had a refurbishment at some point and had we have been seated in the main pub I wouldn’t of rated so low, but my god if you are going to house people in this function room, the owners need to do something with it. I felt disgusted sitting eating my food in there, the walls are filthy, random mirrors in there again absolutely filthy, it was just giving me grimy old working men’s club environment. Honestly I will never go back to this pub again based on eating in this room, the toilets off this room were disgusting with some weird pink slime coming down the wall. Honestly I was shocked that this side of the pub was in this state, considering the rest of the pub looks actually quite nice. If this is a function room that they rent out, I’m not sure but if they do honestly don’t bother. We ordered a mixture of food, according to two who had burgers in our table the burgers were nice. Scampi and chips I honestly wouldn’t bother, it looked like it had just been cooked in a fryer and dashed on a plate, garlic bread reminded me of the cheap version from Aldi that looks like toast ?! Don’t bother. Honestly based on this I would never return to this pub, but again this is not a reflection of the staff at all, it’s a reflection on who ever owns it .

First Marstons disappointment. Waited almost 45 mins for steak and a mixed grill. Even with one of those meals being NGCI, we never wait that long for it. We always frequent Marstons pubs for food as we know it's safe, but the food was very late coming out, and the steak was not cooked to the Very Well Done that I asked for.

Super easy to book a table and view the menu online. Not sure if any specials were available or where they were displayed in the pub. Seated really quickly (pub wasn’t very busy) and once ordered, we didn’t have to wait too long for our food arrive. The food was well cooked and really tasty - some real good options available (more variation on the pizza menu would be good though) however, the salad options are a bit lacking - can we get a side salad option that doesn’t inclose quinoa and kale please??!

Table was ready and set out on arrival,staff showed us to table asked about any issues to be aware of,allergies etc. Our food and drink order was served within 10 minutes and with care and courtesy,which was extremely efficient and welcome. Both courses were cooked and presented very well and staff were attentive ( but not overbearing) and efficient. The atmosphere was comfortable, and we all had a most enjoyable time. We certainly will return again. One negative point, the pub was very warm (it was a hot day) and does not have air conditioning, so it was a little uncomfortable at times. Could have done with a fan perhaps? Although to be fair we did not ask for one. Finally we agreed that given the current cost of living issues,food and drink were fairly priced and competitive, the quality of the food was very good indeed.

Excellent meal with two close pals. Fish was cod. Excellent taste and was assured non EU ( ha ha). Happy Brexit fish. Friends had great veggie burger and veggie chilli. They loved their meals. Puds were delicious. Great ice cream and cheesecakes. Area bright and welcoming. Staff friendly and great. There's a pool table too. Sky sports so people can watch Villa in the Champions league. Ample car parking.

Cheap food had a 30% discount which was nice. But need to improve the portion size and quality of meat. Great friendly staff.

Had a lovely birthday meal for our daughter at The Claregate. Our servers, Sarah & Joh, were really attentive and friendly.

Turned up to pub at 8.45pm, ordered our drinks and wasn’t told that food ended at 9pm. Went in at 9.02pm to order 3 meals and was told the kitchen shut 2minutes ago and we should have ordered food when we got our drinks! The casual laugh by the bar staff made it all that more frustrating that we hadn't been informed in advance!

Have been to the Claregate for the last 3 family birthday meals, because basically it's the cheapest. Nice food, even when full, nice atmosphere, can't fault it. Used to go here ages ago when I lived in Pendeford and it has changed a lot, but I still like it. Great pub.

We booked a table for 2.30 on Mothers Day, we ordered our food about 2.45, unfortunately we didn't get our meals until 3.55. We waited over 1 hr, I understand they were very busy, and the waitresses were working very hard, so it would have been nice to have had an apology off the waitress for the long wait for our food but we didn't. On a lighter note, the food was excellent.

Did have an issue but our server kindly sorted out all the issues expertly and is a credit to the establishment

Disappointing on mothers day all service was 1 out of 5 all staff main care about the local my mother hate the place recommend not attending what a waste of about 70 quid never again

Went on a very busy Saturday night. Food was ok after waiting what seemed an eternity. Could hear a couple complaining to the manager. Was taken back by the manager's response. No apology given. I'm assuming most of the reviews on here are of local people. I myself am not. The Claregate had a special offer on with 30 percent of mains. It was clear that they were rushed of their feet and need more staff, if they are going to put on special offers. Did feel for the staff. Hospitality needs all the support it can get. However, you would have thought the manager would have responded more courteously. I wanted to complain but it was obvious the manager was not ready to listen. Perhaps they will take into account this review.

Can't thank you enough for doing a 90th Birthday meal last night for my Dad. 18 of us all served together when you were really busy. Staff were friendly, food brilliant and you couldn't do enough for us much appreciated!

Was really looking forward to our visit to the Claregate but unfortunately it was a massive disappointment. Booked a table a week in advance, got there early on the day and booked food early but none of those factors helped at all. Had to wait at least 50 minutes for our food order to be served. 3 times either myself or my partner were assured it was being plated up when obviously it wasn't. When the food came it was okay but we had waited that long it could have been anything. My partner asked to see the manager to put our views across on our disappointing service. My partner stated that if we had been warned of a delay we could have gone elsewhere. The response from the manager was we wouldn't have been much better off timewise if we had gone elsewhere. That response again was very disappointing and poor customer service, it was evident there was a need for training in customer relations. I must point out the bar staff were very friendly and their service was good in trying circumstances. On the whole it was evident that more staff were required as demand could not be met. On the whole a very disappointing experience and one I don't wish to repeat so it's safe to say I won't be returning.

I had salt and chilli chicken Kebab with fries, comes with salad on a pita. Chicken didn’t have much flavour, fries were over cooked for my liking. Onions rings were nice and crispy

Food was excellent as usual. Never had a bad meal and 30% off mains. Winner!
