This is my review of Compton Care. Out of loving remembrance for my mum I'll be honest and respectful. Compton Care obviously excels at many things in regards to how well it functions, the quality of the building itself, the professionalism of most of the staff, the aesthetic and mostly calm environment, the beautiful architecture and landscaping, but there were some things that bothered me a little and I feel could be improved. Some of the good: • Hot drink facilities • Family can also order meals onsite • There are therapy dogs that visit patients, which is wonderful and interactive Why I removed two stars: • Transparency. The dying process can be complex and distressing, especially if you don't know what's happening or why certain medications are administered. You're not told what the side effects are. You're not told, unless you ask, what the signs of dying are so that you're prepared. I got most of my knowledge from Google and the two nurses who did take time to speak to us family members. My mum was admitted perfectly mentally sound and communicative, but due to her pain had to be on high levels of pain relief, ended up confused and distressed and then had to be sedated to combat that confusion. They call it terminal agitation. • Mixed messaging. One of the nurses refused to give my mum additional pain relief at my request, because she said my mum's knees would be up if she was in pain, but she was heavily sedated. My mum never moved once during her last week. She couldn't have moved her legs. All she could do was twitch her thumb (which she did once), facially wince, or do brief movements of her eyebrows. The same nurse also talked over my mum a few times and appeared to question whether my mum was really in pain, when my mum was still able to communicate. My mum was someone who barely took painkillers when she was healthy. She had Pancreatic Cancer. I can state quite emphatically: she was in pain. I still now (in 2024 - my mum passed away in November 2022 - highly dislike the nurse who added frustration and discomfort to my mum's last days. Her name began with an R. • My mum had a sore on her bum that caused a lot of discomfort for her and I feel could've been treated sooner. • After my mum's death (which I nearly missed by seconds) she had a sore on left ear, which both myself and it seems the staff hadn't noticed, and it must've been painful for her because she winced whenever her head was moved even a little (despite her heavy sedation). • Some staff are friendly and compassionate, but there were a couple whose manner could have been warmer. They would enter my mum's room and not even acknowledge family, let alone speak or introduce themselves to my mum. My mum valued manners and a friendly manner a great deal. She had worked in social care herself and was always kind and compassionate to the people she cared for. Just because someone is dying they don't stop being a person. They still exist. They still need to be acknowledged. • Some of the night staff are a little noisy (banging bins, laughing etc) but thankfully it didn't disturb my mum. Some more good: • The good staff who laugh with you, interact warmly with the patient and explain things to you • Therapy treatments are available for patients and family • You can bring your own pets • Doctors constantly reasses medication and pain relief and will answer direct questions • The food is good (although sometimes my mum asked for certain things and didn't get what she asked for, but this did improve later until she could no longer eat.) One of the catering staff (blonde hair in a ponytail) always went that extra mile and showed my mum so much compassion. • Receptionists are super friendly and welcoming • The Chaplain lady was very kind and compassionate also • The fact family can stay the night with loved ones Overall, Compton Care aided my beloved mum in her last days. It wasn't perfect and some things could be improved. However, my mum went as peacefully as is possible with a heinous disease like Pancreatic Cancer. She fought until her last breath.

The staff at compton care are amazing. My husband Phil, spent his last days there. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff from the cleaners to the consultant. They not only cared for my husband but also us as a family. The care given to my husband was outstanding and as a family cannot thank the staff enough. Keep up the good work because we see you as pure angels. God bless you all.

My family have always given to compton care for many years, including my nan who was admitted a while ago, she has now been discharged to a nursing home. The grounds, the patient unit, gardens and shop are lovely, its some of the staff on the inpatient unit who let compton care down. The communication is very poor, you walk on the unit, your lucky to get a nurse/hca speak or smile at you, trying to find out how your relative has been doing, you dont get told very much. The only staff member who actually introduced himself and greeted us everytime was a lovely male hca Ade. We felt as a family that my nan was a burden to them, as they began talking about getting her discharged quite quickly, the nursing staff show no empathy, and some act like they dont want to be there at all. The whole time my nan was there, I only saw whilst visiting a bank staff nurse ask my nan if she wanted a drink, the only other staff i saw do this was the catering lady, I cannot fault her. I dont feel they encouraged my nan as much as they should of done with her e&d. Thankyou to the lovely volunteers at reception desk, the cleaners who were lovely to my nan and Ade the Hca. Its such a same that the attitude of the rest of the staff and broken communication let that inpatient unit down.

Complementary therapy I can’t recommend this service enough !! Prior to my first visit, I was anxious, agitated, not sleeping well and still ultimately a mixture of a person grieving and a little lost. Fast forward to my 3rd and 4th treatment my mixed emotions and feelings became balanced and neutral. I found the therapist to be highly skilled, professional, self-aware and emotionally present. The treatments were very personal and personalised to my needs with a nurturing and caring approach. Thank you Debbie for helping with my journey ❤️

Lymphoedema clinic. I can previously say the care and service had been horrendous but since my father has returned to their care I can say nothing short of it being incredible! Monica is an angel, a caring, considerate, empathic and friendly member of the team who has gone above and beyond to assist with my dad's care. I haven't encountered many in the healthcare profession with such grit, determination and passion but Monica you have it all. Nicola, the HCA who we have also had the pleasure of seeing is also phenomenal. I'm so glad the clinic have these 2 members of staff who understand the importance and challenges patients and families face and try to minimize them with their expertise. Thank you so much girls, we are forever grateful.

Can’t praise Compton Care enough! Unfortunately my dad’s cancer had spread and he quickly became end of life. We got him out of hospital and he had care at home, Compton were so efficient. I had a call within 2 hours of getting him home explaining what would happen and who to call if we needed anything. They were so helpful and couldn’t do enough for both my Dad and us the family. Although losing Dad was so hard and such a shock I’m so glad we had Comptons help to get him through his final days. I will forever be grateful and can’t thank all the team enough.

My daughter's father was admitted to Compton Hospice. He spent the day there and passed away on the evening. The room was lovely so we're the nurses. We were so glad he spent his last day there. We decided to take a lot of his belongings to the charity shop there. Unfortunately there was a gentleman who worked there who was not at all appreciative of the things we were taking in. I am now reluctant to take anymore as we were made to feel uncomfortable. Cafe on site was very nice.

*for the compton shop We always always send our donations too this shop because 2 family members had great care here. But I've never felt unwelcome than i have today. Not even stepped in the door and a very rude lady staff member gave us a horrible look at our bags and says "how many"? In a huff. We replied, 2. She then said were extremely busy just drop them there and she still stood in the doorway not letting me and my daughter step inside. She then left the shop but told the lady at the till not to accept anymore donations and to tell people to go to the perton shop. The lady at the till could see we was upset how we was just spoken too and she was nice and apologised. My husband told the nice lady we always donate to here but we will go elsewhere now but the nice lady said no we do appreciate it but she agreed there was no need for that as she seen and heard it all. I hope everyone dont get the rude treatment from (jen) i think her name was and feel unwelcome like we did today.

This is for the charity shop only: A month or so ago I visited the charity shop, and left my dog in the car, when walking in the charity shop noticed there were 2 dogs in shop which were not guide dogs. So I went back to the car to take my dog in, no problem at all staff were fussing him. Then today I went to take my dog in the charity shop was told no dogs allowed and told to read the sign on the door, it took me a while to even spot the sign. They made out that I was lying and would never of been allowed in the shop with my dog. I think you should send an email out to your staff and tell them no dogs allowed and get a bigger sign on your door.

My husband was admitted for end of life care, we were lead to believe by the staff that it was to reassess the medication plan before being released for care at home. 12 hours after being admitted he sadly passed away. I wasn't there as I was assured things would be fine. The staff called me 5 minutes before he passed. Considering they deal with end of life care daily you'd think they'd recognise the signs of being close to death hours before it happens and notify their patients loved ones immediately but that wasn't the case. They robbed me of my husband's last moments and that will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Over the past several years l have been a regular visitor to Compton care shop in Wednesfield I have always carried my one eye nearly blind tiny dog under my arm when visiting this shop. Visited for lunch with friends, been to this cafe on many occasions then it closed for a refurbishment. What a shame clinical white brick tiles with a morris wallpaper. It looks cold and it is cold no smell of food being cooked or a cosy seat. A very poor selection of packed sandwiches salad and mass produced cakes the garages in the vicinity offer better. The tea is lukewarm and had to be sent back. The tea cakes toasted but are extremely small. There is not a lot to say what drinks are available but you could have coffee it said so on a chalk board. What has happened to the delicious dinners and meals all home cooked with a smile. We are not stupid the cafe did need updating but mt goodness someone got it badly wrong
