The Waveney House Hotel in Waveney

We have eaten in the restaurant at The Waveney Hotel regularly. It is usually a pleasant experience, but today (Easter Saturday) was an awful ordeal. There was a private function (wedding) at the same time as diners booked for lunch in the restaurant. After half an hour, our food order had not been taken and when we politely asked we were told no order could be taken for a while as the kitchen was too busy. As we waited.... and waited....the numerous wedding guests were using the restaurant as a thoroughfare to the outside area, constantly leaving the door open which we were immediately in front of with a young baby in a highchair. We, as well as diners at the other tables, became exasperated by the fire door constantly being left open by the wedding guests going in and out, as well as having these people standing around our tables whilst we were trying to have a peaceful meal out. It was extremely noisy because there were too many people in the restaurant, cold because of being in a constant draught from the outside door, and poor service kept us there much longer than we wanted to be. This should have been a wonderful treat for us as it was a special celebration, but resulted in us feeling like second class citizens, with the wedding guests taking priority and wrecking the experience for all the other diners. It totally spoilt our special occasion. Surely this could have been managed much better, and diners should be warned when booking that the hotel cannot cope with a big function whilst simultaneously maintaining a reasonable standard in the restaurant. We will think twice about ever going back.

I came with my 91 year old Gran for a Saturday lunch. We didn't book, as she didn't know how she'd feel on the day. Staff were all lovely and friendly, despite all being very busy. I couldn't park in 2 of the disabled spots as they were blocked off for wedding guests, so had to drop my Gran off and see her in and then go and park further away. Service was very slow, so I assume they were short staffed as they have often appeared to be before when I've been. We didn't have a desert as we felt the prices were far too expensive for what they are - £10-£14. Lovely view over the river, as we ate.

New Year Eve overnight stay, room very comfortable and warm, great view of the adjacent Waveney river from our room, room very clean with all facilities and ample parking few minutes walk from town centre, definitely coming back again.

Excellent service and for gluten free food. Beautiful location adjacent to the river.

Nice stay, clean but the hotel is a little tired.

I didn’t stay here but had a meal in the restaurant. All the food was amazing. The brisket was probably one of the best meals I have ever had. I will definitely be back.

Lovely food totally unrushed lovely outside dining area right on the river ample parking for cars.Tucked away from the main area of BECCLES but within easy walking distance. Rooms not seen.

Watched live entertainment outside in the evening on the edge of the river, sunset and rolling mist. Good beer.

Beautiful riverside hotel. Everything was very good: the room, the staff and the kitchen. Too bad we didn't sleep well because of a bed too small for two and a soft mattress! Apart from that, we will keep good memories of it.

Visited with family for Saturday evening meal.Table was ready on arrival although set for one, and there were three of us. We had to ask for cutlery. My drink order was incorrect, but the food was delicious. We all had three courses, onion basis, belly pork and fish. Mains were Thai curry ,chicken and salmon all well presented and very tasty. One sorbet and two crumbles for pudding again very tasty. Food I thoroughly recommend and would return.

What a wonderful place on the water

Lovely riverside setting with lots of tables outside. Enjoyed a good evening meal, all nicely presented. Service and staff all excellent. Easy parking. Highly recommend.

Not only are the rooms immaculate and the location lush, but the hotels biggest asset are its staff and the service they provide. I left a couple of items behind after my trip and the team without even questioning it posted them back to me. I Would certainly go out of my way to stay here again if near the area in future! Thank you again!

After a lovely walk I stopped off for a glass of vino, sat watching the world go by. Perfect.

We were the entertainment for a birthday party so we didn't have the pleasure of staying over the night, however the location of this hotel is just stunning quiet and peaceful. I would actually very much love to stay over t night if I would return someday . The staff were very friendly and accommodating to us. Great size function room too where we performed . Perfect for any occasion. Business or pleasure. It's a yes from me. I can only imagine the hotel rooms will be just as imacculate as is the rest of the hotel. Thank you for a pleasant experience for us northerners .

Great meal Easter Sunday with fantastic pudding. From sussex seeing family and was recommended.

Beautiful food and excellent service. We sat in the Conservatory lovely surroundings and atmosphere for a memorable celebration with friends.
