The Watermans Arms in Pembrokeshire

On a miserable wet day in Pembroke, just below the Castle, my wife and I visited Watermans for the first time. It lifted the day. Ant and Hannah made us most welcome, friendly chat, but with cracking beer and wonderful bar food. We were happily satisfied and will definitely return. Great views, too, if the weather had been more kind.

Excellent food, the wild boar and chorizo burger is the best burger I've ever had, and I'm nearly 60!! Staff couldn't be more helpful, flexible in dealing with changes to our booking. All round a superb experience

We couldn't go in the restaurant as we had the dog and the bar was full of a pool table and space for 2 dart boards! The music in the bar was loud but at least it was 70s & 80s rock music I recognised! Service was efficient and the dog got water and titbits! I wouldn't have the salmon fishcake starter again, but would have the lasagne or the chicken. They do both Inch's and Stowford Press cider at £4.70 and a large Pinot is £6.80. We would go again, forget starters, and aim for pudding!

Visited as a family of 5, food was great all loved our choices. Dog was accommodated in the bar with water and treats. Staff were very friendly and helpful would def recommend. Thank you

Good place for typical welsh dishes. We had a very good time there, service was fast and food quality was good. Nice location along the river with view on the Castle.

Pub restaurant on the riverside, we had dinner on the terrace, good pub food.

No parking at the pub good view from outside and some of the inside seating otherwise it's okay.

Firstly, a wonderful welcome from the landlady. Secondly, the food totally exceeded our expectations (and is incredible value for the money). Of course the location is fantastic but the whole pub experience is even better.

What a lovely pub. My wife and I had just popped in to get out of the wind and rain, it's a shame that we saw it on such grey day because I can imagine that in the sun, sitting on the deck, overlooking the mill pond would be a lovely way to spend a few hours. As it is we had a lovely pint of Rev James and a packed of scampi fries each, and we sat looking out of the window and just enjoyed the view. I definitely recommend.

We visited just for a drink Saturday 24th August. It was busy, atmosphere warm and friendly. Bar staff and owner very accommodating finding us a seat in the restaurant area. Then they were so helpful in finding us a taxi back to our campsite. Would definitely visit again - thank you!

10/10 experience, staff, food and pint of Guinness! Arrived in with no booking was greeted by a friendly face and had a pint while we waited for a table. What an operator !! Busy Friday night with lots of tables to work and managed impeccably! I ordered steak, chips and onion rings and my partner ordered burger, chips with cheese and peppercorn sauce (say don’t dismiss until you’ve tried). Top class ingredients, perfect portions and really well presented. You can tell they pour their heart and soul into the place. It’s incredible to see and I’m so glad we picked here to dine. After a week in Devon and Cornwall I have to say this was our favourite. Superb value for money and relaxing setting. Thanks again!

Dog friendly, good food & nice friendly atmosphere.

We were a group of 4 and all had very good meals not a complaint between us. Sam was a very cheerful friendly and efficient waitress. Highly recommend

Came here for a couple of drinks on an afternoon. It’s nice outside but inside it’s a little rough. Not a massive pub so it feels crowded but cheap drinks none the less

I had the seaweed salad with prawns which was amazing. The prawns you could tell were fresh and cooked from order. Much the same for the seaweed. Only negative to the food which is self preferences iceberg or baby gem rather than leafy salad and rocket. They had no problem with my partner changing the seaweed salad protein to chicken instead of prawns, which was cooked perfectly and had great flavour. The service we had was outstanding. The two ladies behind the bar were very chatty and likeable people. Service was quick didn’t too long at all and everything was clean and tidy. Atmosphere was nice. The surroundings are stunning nice view of the castle and sat on the river cannot fault the outdoor. Inside decor was a bit dated but clean and tidy. Overall a pleasure to have a meal there would highly recommend to anyone who is in Pembroke

Amazing is all I can say, our little boy has allergies and they couldn't do enough to help to ensure there was something he could eat, so friendly and helpful and the service is fantastic, you will not be disappointed and as for the food, well if you like home cooked food then u will love this place, we have had both the evening menu and the Sunday lunch...!!! The bar staff are so friendly and helpful and the chef is amazing, thankyou for everything and we certainly will be returning when we are back in the area. The Thomas family

The lady running the house was a lot of fun but to the point. We had quite good food served in time. Good choice of beers and ciders. Splendid location next to the tidal mill pond (?) and view on Pembroke castle.

Great pub grub. Chef was incredibly accommodating with allergies came out to see & reassure us. Gluten, Dairy, Nuts Normally when an item is removed because of allergies it is not replaced with an alternative. Watermans offered other alternatives which my wife loved. Basically building her own burger. Dogs allowed in the bar & doggy treats/ice cream. Food was very good with a nice view. Great experience. Thanks

4 of us on the hunt for lunch came across the Watermans on Wednesday (21st) All had burgers - beef and a chicken - very generous portions and absolutely delicious - burgers obviously being homemade! Very friendly staff - providing water for the doggie and even helping us with pointers to our "treasure hunt" locations! Thanks again and would definitely visit in the future should our paths venture into Pembroke again! 😊😊

After spending 2 weeks in pembroke, trying all the places , I can definitely say it's the place with the best Peroni on tap , best view , and second best food in town , ( best in Tyne evening), If you are here for a day definitely definitely get your dinner and drinks here !

Me and husband and our girls pop here for a pub lunch and it was absolutely stunning 😍 10-10 to chef 🧑‍🍳 he even came out and had a laugh with us…fantastic atmosphere and bar staff was lovely 🥰 definitely recommend this pub we will be back again 👍👍👍👍

The owner and staff were very welcoming which made us feel at ease from the moment we arrived! Our boys ordered the nuggets and fish fingers and both were home cooked, large portions! My wife and I ordered the chicken burger again this was of excellent quality! An ideal spot when visiting Pembroke Castle! Would definitely visit again!

Quaint pub in Pembroke with good food and moderate prices. Staff is in a good mood and friendly.

From the first contact this pub was brilliant. The service and food were super. Our children all enjoyed their meals and everything was home cooked. The staff were attentive and made us feel very welcome.

Outstanding Burgers. The Blue Cheese was on another level. The Watermans Fried Chicken was spectacular. Worth to try. The special dish is worth a try and is varied. The desserts were heavenly. Home made apple pay and Hot Fudge Chocolate Cake. The service was unmatched - they even gave us recommendations for site seeing. The location is great, with a fab view of the Castle. Our experience was so good that we came back on our second and last night in town. Now we need to come for the Churros 😜

The service was very poor, we asked how much longer it was for our food to be served and the response was "I don't know" we waited 1 hour 15 mins, the waitress kept putting the blame on my husband being 15 minutes late for our order!! If she had told me we would be waiting over an hour I would've placed our order straight away!! we didn't think the roast was worth the money (only 2 slices of meat), not enough veg for 3 people. I asked for complimentary coffees because of the wait, the waitress replied I will have to ask the manager and we only have nescafe!!! It was a shame as it is in a superb position overlooking the water

Beautiful location. We had a special from the board; The Sea Bass for Two. It was a huge seafood feast and the whole sea bass was cooked perfectly. VERY delicious after our day trip bicycle adventure to Barafundel Beach. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was busy with a great atmosphere. The restaurant beyond the bar has great interior design. We enjoyed food in the bar the night before; the burger and prawns were demolished with gusto. All the food was prepared by chefs that know good food. The pub is busy with locals and this adds the the great atmosphere. Try to book if you can as they do get busy. You can snag a table in the bar though if you are early enough and you can even order the restaurant special board from there too. Thank you to the Watermans for helping to make our celebration special.

Excellent location with views of both the castle and the mill pond with swans. We had a table by the window so prime views had by us all. My wife had the homemade beef lasagne, which she said was excellent. I had the homemade fishcakes which I highly recommend if you like chorizo. Our kids had the homemade chicken nuggets from the kids menu. They were a good portion size and made fresh, again highly recommend. The ice cream and sorbet deserts we all had were a good portion size for the price. Very friendly staff and a lovely, quiet atmosphere in the restaurant area. The bar area was lively and had a great atmosphere too. There are also tables outside to take in the views. We would highly recommend visiting here for a meal or even just a drink as a pitstop.

Merrell at front of house was amazing. They were happy to let us in as we are training a guide dog puppy to behave around public places and to be socialised in social environments and busy environments such as restaurants. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. Definitely the best or the better of the two pubs on water there. The burgers. We tried one of each. They definitely hit the spot.

We hadn't booked but were kindly accommodated. The lady who served us, Sam, went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. She was attentive and kind, noticing I was hot and opened the door for a bit of breeze. The food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. The portions were big and everything was freshly cooked. Can't praise this place enough!

Had a very disappointing lasagne, mince poor quality . Staff very nice but place needs refurbishment .

Fantastic pub! Very nice and friendly service, you can sit on the terrace next to the water, great ambience and furnishings, excellent and creative cuisine (steak was a dream), delicious, very tasty beer - everything fits here! Very highly recommended!

Great little pub for a pint with a lovely balcony on the water with a view of the castle. The staff are lovely and the locals are very welcoming to tourists.

Lovely staff, very helpful. Lovely little outside sitting area overlooking the millpond and the castle. We had a cold pint and hot lamb roast in the sun, delicious and relaxed!

So glad we came across this amazing place! First off the food is absolutely beautiful, The chef obviously takes great pride in his cooking, the food does the talking and the chef even greets you to make sure the food is top notch. The service was a well deserved 5* too, so friendly and welcoming! We came back a second day we loved it that much. The pub sits by the beautiful Pembrokeshire castle by the lake with the most amazing views. We can’t wait to come to back!

We were only in Pembroke for a couple of days, so only had time to eat here once. The food was fantastic and the service 5 stars!

One of the best meals out I've had in a long time. Props to Ant (the chef) for a great meal. He came out himself to check all was okay. The food was absolutely stunning😍 There were lots of gluten free options to choose from (including gf buns for burgers). Sam was great in checking what was gluten free and went the extra mile to make sure we were all good. Overall a very friendly and welcoming pub. Would definitely come back here and recommend to anyone visiting Pembroke. The garlic potatoes are to die for🤤 10/10!

We stopped over for a quick lunch on our way to Pembroke coastline and were looking for something vegetarian .. the place surprised us with the best tasting soups and meal options including desserts. And to top it the staff was so warm and welcoming and so were the local guests! Overall an unforgettable experience and would hope to visit again!

Just finished an amazing meal in this pub. There were 5 of us and we all had different meals. All thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was made exactly to our specifications (fussy children) spoke to the chef Ant who was very accommodating and everything was cooked fresh on site. Never had such a warm welcome in a place ever! Meryl and all the staff were lovely. Can’t praise this pub enough, would highly recommend and definitely be back when in the area again. Came in as strangers and left as friends. Thank you all so much ♥️

Well what can I say?! Head chef Ant always goes above and beyond to accommodate, including making meals that aren’t on the menu to suit my son. Whenever we visit he’s always experimenting with flavour combinations and the samples we’ve tried are delicious. Always have great food and a giggle when we visit. Highly recommend.

Random pick after a long work day. One pound car parking from 6pm over the bridge. Fantastic location directly on the Pembroke river overlooking Pembroke Castle. Locals pub through a small roadside door with restaurant area further back. Friendly helpful staff with specials menu Ordered a great blue cheese burger with SPF cooked well and a good size. Recommend a visit.

Outstanding. We arrived early Sunday lunch time and the staff managed to squeeze us in before a reservation and I’m so glad they did, I cannot thank them enough. Their roast dinner is absolutely outstanding and the staff are so friendly. So many delicious sides to come with your roast of choice. If I’m ever in Pembroke again this is the first place I’ll be rebooking for lunch/dinner. Well done team ☺️

I popped in as I was working in the area and there were no eating establishments bear my hotel. I need WiFi and so.ethi g to eat. I was offered a place in the dining room with a plug socket even though food could not be ordered for another hour. This was perfect. The lady behind the bar was attentive asking if I needed anything. I stayed and ate there and the food matched the service. Good quality meal at a fair price. It was so good I returned the next day. Beautiful view of Pembroke Castle too. I had steak and sticky toffee pudding on the first night and lasagne the second. Book with confidence.

Food was lovely, between us we had 3 burgers and a plate of Welsh faggots, service was great, but the atmosphere was awesome, there was darts and pool going on and everyone was really friendly. We had the dog with us so were sat in the bar area. We'd go back if we visit the area again. Thanks.

Absolutely loved this place! I am gluten free and when we walked in I was expecting the usual burger without a bun scenario. However I was so pleasantly surprised I can’t wait to go back! The pub is run by a really lovely, friendly couple. The chef is so knowledgeable about allergens and cross contamination. My food was incredible and even more amazing it cost the same as a normal meal, unlike lots of places that charge more for gf options!

As a party of 8 we booked for dinner after travelling down from Kent, the pub/restaurant was very friendly on entering. Staff very welcoming and chatting and couldn't do enough to help and make our evening enjoyable. Food amazing, hot freshly cooked

Lovely place, atmosphere was great and the staff was lovely and took really good care of us. I am not giving 5 stars just because the meat we had was not very tasty.

Looked everywhere for a meal as was staying for a one night break. Came across Watermans and so glad we did. Absolutely beautiful, home cooked food, lush staff that couldnt do anymore and very reasonably priced. We will definately be back with the family.....and will definitely be ordering the garlic sauce again (stunning!!) Thank you so much x

A warm welcome on a rainy evening, pub part at the front was very busy, the restaurant at the back had two other families in it. Clean and comfortable with beautiful Riverside views. We had the spinach sweet potato and chickpea curry with chips, sausage and mash kids fish goujons and garlic bread. All of it was lovely. Curry was especially nice. Very accommodating with fussy kids too.

WOULD GIVE 0 IF I COULD. service by bartender was absolutely awful!! completely ignored on arrival had to ask to be served. i know saturday evenings are busy but i stood there for 15 minutes waiting while she was just taking to what looked like regulars. when i was seated i was further ignored and asked what drinks i wanted about 3 times. food was okay nothing special, no customer service skills at all, face of thunder not even a smile. i never leave reviews but feel like this had to be said! WILL NOT BE RETURNING AND DO NOT RECOMMEND.

We went for our Xmas meal, the staff were very attentive and helpful, my two grandsons were catered for to suit them. The food was amazing, well cooked and presented.would highly recommend.

We have been here 3 times, celebrated my birthday in July this year with family who stayed in Tenby. They were amazed at the food. We intend to visit more often.

In an amazing location on the Mill pond across from Pembroke Castle, this pub is a delight. We decided to try their festive menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. The quality of the turkey and fresh vegetables was great, the service was friendly ... we'll definitely be back. My only disappointment was the Christmas pudding, which we took home to eat later. Done with banana, it just didn't work. But overall, it's a great find ....

Very nice Sunday lunch and enjoyable. Lamb was perfectly cooked and I have no complaints. Only thing that I would like to point out is that the tables were a little bit on the sticky side the apart from that everything was just fine.

Lovely welcoming staff. Beautifully situated pub and great food. Bar staff and chef were very friendly and helpful. Visited twice because of this. There were lots of veggie options on the menu but i just wanted something light on my second visit, so opted for the soup of the day, caramelised carrot. My sister then noticed on the website that there was a halloumi salad but we couldn't see it on the menu. When we asked the chef about it he told us that it was not on the current menu, but that he would happily make me one. It was delicious and just what i needed. He also brought out a small sample of the carrot soup. Wow. It was sooo tasty. There were 5 of us and we were all blown away by the food. Empty plates went back to the kitchen and 5 very happy and fulfilled customers left the pub. Will definitely visit again next time we are here. Thank you for making us all so welcome.

The barlady was wonderful to talk to, gave us some good local knowledge. The food was excellent for the price. Pub is dog friendly and the local drinkers were a laugh. Highly recommend!
