The Waterfront Chippy in Southend-on-Sea

Seems to be the only place in that vicinity that serves proper fresh chips (as opposed to greasy frozen fare). Cod was tasty too. Recommend!

The service here was terrible. 2 people got their food before us, I even heard another gentleman who’d come in after us ask a member of staff when his food was coming, after being ignored by another lady with very prominent teeth. There’s a young girl at the front who did not greet us upon coming in, didn’t use basic manners and was just straight up rude. She gave us cutlery and my knife had some red sauce stain on it, and I kindly asked for another knife and she took mine and slammed my new knife on the table, I said thanks and she just walked away. Everyone who works here seems to be in their own world. Food was not worth the wait or money. Chips were dry and disappointing, battered sausage was bland. Save your patience and your money and eat elsewhere, because the service was appalling.

Staff friendly. Food not so good. Chips tasted liked cooked in old oil and very dry. Fish batter was good but Fish itself had no flavour and thin. Would not eat here again. Shame

Ordered and about 6 / 7 people were served their food before us. Was told off for leaning on their counter. Was told off for using their tables outside. Was told “ make sure you clean up after” I asked for pepper, was rudely told it works. I’d didn’t , then he proceeded to get frustrated and tell me to open my hand and pours it on my hand. I’m a grown man with children , not a teenager so I don’t appreciate hostile nor disrespectful customer service. To make this experience even worse, the food. Food was awful. Chips were some of the worst I’ve ever had , sausage was not hot, was dry / overcooked and not fresh. Scampi large portion had 5 pieces. I wouldn’t have done this review if I had had better customer service. Your only saving grace was the young lady on the desk was nice and friendly. She’s too good to be working here.

The waitress was an absolute star, she persevered with two pensioners. The fish and chips were a tad disappointing, though the fish was well cooked, the chips were suffering from anaemia. I would struggle to describe the mushy peas but my wife's side salad was brilliant. All in all, a little disappointing, though we would go again.

summer going to the Essex coast for a day out from London (for an event) and popped into a fish and chip restaurant that was recommended. the waterside restaurant. nicely decorated. comfortable seating. nice background music. friendly staff. and most important of all: fantastic food. good value for money

We called into the waterfront, with 4 people,3 wheelchairs and walker plus 3 staff from our care home today. The staff were very kind and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Mostly we had fish and chips which was superb and we would definitely go there again

Lukewarm chips (and that's being generous) soggy thin batter on the overcooked mushy (and very slim) large fish fillet and the fish tasted like it had been cooked in old oil. On a plus, the mushy peas were nice.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The prices are good for a seaside town. The coffee is amazing and the food, from the cooked breakfast to cod and chips, are a treat. The fish is daily brought and very fresh. The chips are homemade, not frozen. It maybe only small but it is lovely. The cook and owner is lovely and even comes out to make sure everything is ok. They are lovely people. We recommend the cafe for anyone and the take window, is the same quality food you buy from the cafe. xxxx

They spent more time thinking through the wallpaper than the fish or chips. Honestly, some of the most disappointing fish and chips I’ve seen, outside a Tesco frozen aisle. It was all mushy, not just the peas. Also, the service was confused and slow. They forgot our drinks and we sat without cutlery for a while, after our food was in front of us, getting colder. Won’t be back.

We were drawn the lovely new interior and were so impressed and very happy with the service and food. I accidentally poured sugar on my chips and got given a new portion free of charge. The manager, Tommy, and his staff, Ruben and Lindsay, were warm, friendly and helpful. PS great tunes, thanks for putting on the Craig David ❤️❤️❤️

Me and my friend had a ve delicious lunch yesterday here. A huge portion of fish and crispy chips fried in fresh oil. Tom and Sylvia organized an excellent service. If you add a great location of the restaurant, this is the best place to visit in Southend!

Been coming to Southend for a yearly trip for the past 10 years, and I cannot believe I’ve only discovered this place today!!!! Absolutely brilliant service and the fish and chips there speaks for itself. I’ll always be visiting this place from now on!!!!!

Terrible service. A woman was super rude to me and my sister when we were paying to eat in. Price is ridiculous for eating in. Never coming again.

We visited bank holiday monday and only went for a coffee, the staff are friendly and helpful and answered some questions about the coffee which is easily the best coffee we have had in ages. The barista this day made the perfect coffee and the staff are so friendly and polite. If I could give 10 stars I would, and i am guessing the owner is a Elvis Presley fan

Went here yesterday with my sister; food and service were exceptional. Would recommend and definitely will return next time I'm in Southend.

The food is absolutely dreadful for example the chips was like a seagull had got them out of a bin and they found them on the street and put them in the microwave and served them and don't even get me started on the price £9.50 for a jacket potato it's daylight robbery please avoid like covid-19

A very disappointing experience indeed. 20/10/2020 afternoon. I had a a take away Fish & Chips (2 of them take away), well really chocking the rude and cold customers service, not only that, even the Chips were cold. for 16 quids its really rubbish.

The owner Albie was friendly and polite, whilst taking an interest in our day and ensuring we enjoyed our food and visit. Good selection and fair prices close to the pier!

Food was appalling, i had battered sausage and chips, the battered sausage was rock solid and the actual sausage was horrible and the chips was your standard cheap oven chips.. Wont be attending ever again

I was really worried when I saw the reviews, however my family and I had a wonderful experience. My Mother who is EXTREMELY hard to please enjoyed it. The service was simply FABULOUS!!!!

Food tasted like something you could make at home from the freezer.

Horrible cold chips. The sign outside said 'traditional fish and chips'. Couldn't have been further from the truth. More like frozen chips

Do not recommend this place, chips are really bad and a veggie burger was just a roll with a tiny frozen burger. Avoid as there are better places to eat in Southend-on-Sea
