My absolute favourite pub in London! Warm atmosphere, gorgeous building, delicious food and a great selection of drinks. To top it off, the staff (especially Maeva) is super friendly and will do anything to help you.

Superb local pub. We went this weekend with friends and our kids. Dinner and drinks. Normally we come for just drinks and the guys enjoy the beer selection and I go through some Prosecco. Great ambience, friendly staff, clean toilets and it looks great after the recent refurb

We hired out Martha's Bar at the back for a birthday party; and it couldn't have been a more enjoyable night, in no small part to the wonderful staff and venue. The space was incredible, with places for everyone to split off and chat and complete privacy for our group; the bar staff were incredibly sweet and attentive; and the food was absolutely excellent. Could not recommend the place higher

This is a neighbourhood local pub with a very, historic feel, beautiful interior, gluten free beer on tap, superb service and excellent food. For a light nibble there is a selection of tapas and for a proper dinner the options of main courses will not disappoint! I tend to always get my favourite roasted fish, white beans and chorizo, but the menu does change over time. Reservations for dinner tables can be recommended because sometimes the tables fill up quite quickly. Service is friendly and efficient. The place is well run.

Beautiful authentic pub with a great athmosphere! My mate and I were staying in Swiss Cottage and happened to end up in this pub, located in a lovely neighbourhood. The next evening we also watched the European Cup final here and met the owner and her partner, great people! 100% highly recommended to drop by if you are in the area :) we will definitely do so next time we are in London!

I have been going to this pub for over 10 years & i have always found Antonia to be very hard working, friendly, vibrant & always put herself out to help everyone, despite how busy she is. I have never come across a landlady who makes people feel so welcoming & important as Antonia does. I always enjoy watching Wimbledon at The Washington, but the atmosphere was absolutely electric, watching England reach the Final & am proud to say that this pub is by far, the best bar in London, because of the Champion Landlady you have running it. I definitely will be going there as much as i can.

We have been here plenty of times and each visit is better than the last. The food, the service and the whole atmosphere is so special. Steven in particular always welcomes us so warmly and makes each visit so memorable. We will be back again and again.

The food was great. Cosy interiors. I had fish and chips and the fish was delicious. Staff very welcoming and friendly, very attentive. Feels really ike home.

Beautiful interior matched by friendly first class service. They accommodated our walking in on a Saturday night without a table booking and found room for us cheerfully. Great food, better than the usual pub menu. Love that dogs are made welcome, being provided with their own water bowl.

Best of the Best! This fabulous English pub in the Primrose area was the epitome of what one would imagine an awesome pub could be. The food, the brew, the ambiance and the history instantly captivated us, so much so that we went twice in the same day, lunch and dinner. No doubt that the genuine friendliness, professionalism and caring service of the staff was another big reason why. Lewis, Lidia and Maeva, thank you for making our first day in London so magical. Don’t be surprised to see us again during our short stay. Thank you! P.S. We came back the following day!

Good Sunday Roast, pleasant atmosphere, friendly service.

Service was great, drinks were good (slightly overpriced but I suppose Hampstead prices) and food was also good and served on time. It’s a really great place to celebrate— also air conditioned to help with the summer heat.

My favorite pub in London, hands down. Three times in London, always make a point to stop by here. Beautiful aesthetics, clean bathrooms, good food & drink, friendly staff, and fun trivia nights.

Martha's bar at the Washington is a true hidden gem that recently underwent a stunning remodel. The new look is absolutely fantastic! The ambiance is modern and chic, creating a sophisticated and trendy atmosphere. The attention to detail in the remodel is evident, from the stylish furniture to the tasteful lighting. The staff remains as friendly and welcoming as ever and the drink selection is still top-notch, with an impressive array of cocktails, beers, and wines to choose from.

Great pub with fantastic service. We hosted a private event in Martha's Bar, the downstairs speakeasy. All went very well, food was delicious and service very attentive. A great local pub!

Space in basement was perfect staff very attentive to anything we needed particularly Steven and Louis who were around on the day, and Antonia who we liaised with.

Decidedly mediocre. The food was not very nice, the kind of menu that comes from a food service provider’s pre prepared dishes. I had a steak and chips. The steak was fine, but tasted of burnt grill and wasn’t salted. The chips were awful, just mush. The mayonnaise was inedible. The peppercorn sauce straight out of a plastic tub. Literally barely above the minimum standard for any restaurant, let alone one that holds itself out as a destination for Sunday lunches. They were sadly out of Landlord, so I had a Guinness, which was so freezing cold it was ruined for the first 10 minutes. I really don’t get it, how hard is decent food and beer? There was a table of French people next to us and I felt ashamed that they’d been subjected to this British “restaurant”.

Really like the warm atmosphere of the Washington and it's just enough off the beaten path to be a true neighborhood pub. We've eaten four meals here and 3 out of four were excellent. The Sunday Roast is one of the best in London - roast beef perfectly cooked, all the extras very good. Another meal had here, the Chicken Milanese, lovely. Where they didn't as well? Steak & Ale pie: the crust was like a slab of concrete. TBH would have sent it back (couldn't pierce it with a knife) but as always the Washington was so packed & busy it was too hard to get the attention of the staffer. Putting the hockey puck to the side, the rest was very good.

Stunning pub just by Primrose Hill, great service and a lovely menu to boot. Will definitely be going back to try the Sunday roast…. Watch this space. They also have a function room available to book which is hidden behind a book case! Love it

Really enjoyable meal experience and lovely roast. We were two couples and my 4 year old. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere with warm, efficient service.

Very cozy spot that happened to be just down the block from where we were staying, we felt lucky to have found it. We had a roast beef and a lamb Sunday Roast, both tasty and to our delight, with more veggies than we'd expected, though both meats were cooked a bit more than we would have liked. Son who'd been sick and refused food all day devoured the burger. The house cask pale ale is fantastic and music was a good mix of interesting old stuff and last 10 years contemporary. Way exceeded our expectations

Great recently renovated Victorian pub with a great cricket team. Good food, fresh pints and a cozy atmosphere.

Always my go to when I’m in the area. Well kept keg and cask beer, friendly and helpful staff, great scotch eggs too!

A real shame. We'd had a lovely afternoon here today on a table reserved for 6.15pm. the reservation came early at 5.55pm so we agreed to finish our drinks and leave. Some bloke who was barely more than a child came over and barked at us twice within less than 5 minutes and tried to stand over us. A manager came over and explained it was his last day (hardly an excuse), but rather than sending him home, when we left at 6.05pm he was back behind the bar pouring beers. Really basic failings - staff and management clearly need some common sense training. Expecting the owner to leave a contrarian review here given their embarrassing responses to previous negative reviews. If they could accept responsibility for their failings, their staff would have a greater sense of responsibility and these things would be less likely to happen. Leadership starts at the top. Edit: Petty response from owner as expected. Perhaps they could have taken the point that they are providing insufficient supervision and training to very junior staff but they're clearly too small and simple minded.

The food and service were both outstanding. We also love that it is dog friendly!

The pub still looks identical to its former self. Unfortunately it’s become much worse service wise. Firstly - the waitress missed a meal off of our order. Then denied it despite 3 of us hearing me order it. Secondly it came but instead of veggie sausage it was meat. Again - denied despite everyone hearing it. We were REALLY polite and understanding and simply waited 3 times the length for the meals with no complaint. The worst thing of all - We had a very upsetting experience where another customer kindly handed our child a helium balloon. The balloon slipped out of our 2 year olds hand and floated to the roof. She became really upset as any normal 2 year old would. Within 1 minute of her crying we were approached by a waitress telling us off and asking us to ‘get her under control’. We explained we were trying. As any parents knows when these events happen in public it is mortifying. We were doing our best to calm her but I don’t exaggerate when I say within 1 MINUTE of the first member of staff approaching us, the female owner came up aggressively asking us to make her stop. We explained we were trying and she kept repeating to us aggressively what the little one was doing. We had only been told this by someone else less than a minute ago!!! She was awful. She seemed drunk so maybe that was it. But wow after that we were made to feel SO unwelcome we had to leave our food and drinks. Really sad as our girls go to the local school and we know everyone in neighbourhood. We will have to warn them now to keep their kids away which is sad. A very sad event when a pub falls into the wrong hands.

Used to be my local 30 years ago. Great to return now that good food is also on offer. Well kept beers and lovely relaxed vibe and interior.

Wandered into this lovely pub on my lonesome on a works trip, bar staff very friendly, food excellent. Usual London prices which is always a shock for a northerner but faultless overall.

My husband and I hired Martha’s Bar for a birthday celebration and had a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly accommodating and helpful, whether responding promptly to emails or taking us on site visits. We loved the speakeasy vibes and how much character the room had, while giving our guests the chance to drink, chat and dance. Thank you for everything!

I've been a couple of times in the last couple of months. The food is excellent, reasonably priced and service friendly. If you wish to eat, it's a good idea to reserve a table. I do like the 3 for £17 bar snack option.

We found that the service was great. All members of staff were polite and professional. The food (Sunday roast) was great. The meat and vegetables were perfectly cooked to our liking. The only problem was how long we had to wait to get our food. I would estimate that it took almost 1 hour for the food to arrive.

Delicious Sunday roast, the half chicken was especially tasty. We enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and good service. Good range of wine and beer.

What can I say…definitely one of the best pubs in the area. Food is always delicious, love how friendly the staff are. They do special events from time to time which I love. Go there and you won’t regret! Don’t forget to make a reservation as it can get busy!

Seem to be entirely food led these days i.e. if you want to pop in for a pint, certainly on the weekend, then you’ll be lucky to get a spot. Will have to try the roast as the Sunday I recently tried to pop in late afternoon it was packed and loads of tables had bookings

It's incredible in all the wonderful pubs in London (and a lot not) that this is my local! It's so deliciously perfect in every way that everyone I know who I bring there is an immediate fan: the right blend of that local pub friendliness and ease, with a warm atmosphere that isn't trying too hard to be hip or cool or anything really, it's just perfectly absolutely, genuinely lovely, and the food is through the roof delicious. And so when my partner came to visit from Holland and it was his birthday, we went round and round all over where I could take him in London that was special and perfect and in the end we both agreed that there would be nothing more genuinely perfect in every way that "our" local, a few seconds walk from the front door and into magic. I asked for a special part of the place if possible and was presented with MY favorite table (unknown to them, right by the fire) but when (annoying to me) mister lanky-legs needed more space (okay, he IS a giant after all!), they put us at my OTHER FAVORITE table and we had the best night, the perfect night, the one that I was hoping for and I know he'd want: unassuming, heart-felt, with that special warmth that is all The Washington. I'm not lying when I say that while I have lived in London since 1982 and have enjoyed many pubs of course along the way, I do believe that the gods are at work to put The Washington right there for me. Sometimes I work from there. Sometimes I go there to get pissed. Sometimes I enjoy the best lunches and brunches and dinners London has to offer, pub or otherwise. Sometimes I enjoy giving my guy the birthday he was hoping for. They deliver, simply, because they come from the right place in spirit in every way. Now ignore this review and don't come, this place is mine!

First time since the refurb (and I was very confused that they moved the Gents) and it was as great as ever. Fine pints of cask beer, quality food and excellent service.

Terribly rude staff- I was ordering a drink and the blonde woman behind the bar literally tried to pick a fight with me. She disappeared half way through the order and then didn’t bother to ask if I wanted anything else. When I politely asked for more items she was really rude. Anecdotally, other staff have been rude to friends. Management really need to step up. I won’t be coming again. Edit: 6.2.24- The fact that the management replies to my complaint in such an arrogant and tone deaf manner illustrates the type of people that are now running this place. My experience was real, the date in question was 20th Jan and I was in your pub in Englands Lane. You certainly know how to bring the punters in don’t you! Either way, you’ve just lost hundreds of pounds of income over the next few months, nice one.

I had a delightful dining experience at The Washington. The atmosphere was so lovely and inviting. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the waitress who served me, Nia. Her exceptional service went above and beyond, she also gave me great recommendations due to my dietary requirements, which was absolutely delicious. she was very friendly and attentive and made my our overall dining experience so much better. I look forward to returning and experiencing the exceptional hospitality and food once again!
