New staff is not friendly with a big attitude. Cocktails is not nice Quality and is not in a presentable glasses. Atmosphere become not very nice when is new staff making you feeling unwelcome and ignored.

Lovely Laura was the perfect waitress and the food was good.

We booked a table for a pre theatre meal. The food took over 1 hr to arrive, if we didnt chase it then who knows how long it would of taken as the waiters did not inform us of the delay. As an apology we got 10% knocked off the bill but then they added 15% service charge. Nice pub and tasty food but they really need to sort out the kitchen and customer service

As always, the service was amazing even though it was full and busy. Our stater we felt could have been better, the aubergine wasn't soft and not enough goats cheese and honey. When requesting more goats cheese and honey the waitress quickly said let me replace the whole thing and the new serving was excellent. Great roasts, we had the beef and lamb.

The food was quite nice but it was pricey too. Wild mushroom toast was lovely but it was also £11.50. The mains then took an hour to come...no-one came past the table to explain or to offer us some more drinks while we waited. I had to go to the pub area to get another pint. They were really apologetic and took 10% off the bill due to the wait. There seemed to be an issue as every table was waiting so hopefully it was just an off night and if I'm in the area I'd give it another go. Especially as the theatre upstairs was excellent.

I most recently came here because I was going to see a play at "Upstairs at the Gatehouse". I thoroughly recommend the theatre. That said, if I'm in Highgate this is one of the pubs I tend to pop into. I rate it higher than the more famous Flask, down the road.

Had lunch 3rd January2025. We were visiting our son for New Year, and he couldn't have chosen a better place. The food, service and atmosphere were perfect.

Nice pub and the food was pretty good but all of the staff were pretty moody. It doesn’t cost anything to smile 🤷🏻‍♂️

A cosy warm pub busy on a Wed with slower service than usual but paella was exceptional and pub fare was good esp fish & chips.

Always enjoyed the food but as someone who’s in the service industry the service was extremely poor. We gave them their time as we knew they had a busy period but we weren’t greeted nicely at all and told we had to wait for drinks as one person was making coffees, we waited 30 minutes and then our orders were forgotten about twice. We were not properly acknowledged when we left, which sums up the whole experience. Won’t be returning and really sad as I’m local.

We had our company Christmas lunch at The Gatehouse. It was fantastic from start to finish. The booking process was efficient and straightforward and the communication was clear and friendly. When I arrived on the day, everything was ready and we were looked after by the team from the start. Service was excellent, they asked us if we needed more drinks and delivered our food without making us feel like we were being fussed over or ignored. The food was delicious, all 3 courses. I think we tried most things on the set menu between us and everyone was impressed. At the end of lunch, there were a few of us left and we were moved to another quiet area to continue spending time together. All in all, I would highly recommend the Gatehouse. Service with a smile and top food and drink.

We enjoyed both shows we came to on Sunday (4pm and 7.30pm) and had booked a table for dinner between the two shows. Time was tight, but staff made sure we all had a glass of wine and one course before dashing back upstairs for the cabaret.

Very nice and efficient service on a busy day. Our fish and chips were excellent. Adjacenct babies (and mums) largely well behaved and not overly noisy.

We had an amazing experience at the Gatehouse. Our staff Xmas party took place and the food was excellent, staff were so helpful and atmosphere was great.

It exceeded our expectations. We went for a pre theatre meal. Everything was pleasant since the time we walked in. There is the pub area and the restaurant area. Both very charming and with a relaxing feeling. The lady found a table for us, although we didn't make a reservation. We ordered vegan dishes and they were one better than the other. Vegan salad as starter, a vegetable paella and lentils as main courses. Every dish was so tasty, especially the paella. I'm not vegan, but I would surely reorder it again. Big portions as well... so go empty stomach. The lady and the waiter were so nice, not just because they had to do it for the sake of the clients, they were genuinely nice smily and funny 😊. I'll definitely go back, and this time will make sure to book a table in advance

For me (and my unmanageable group of 19 friends) this is the start of Christmas. An amazing lunch. In a beautiful pub. Great food. Quite brilliantly handled by the mighty Laura!) It was just great. Just great.

The Gatehouse has been the go to pub for The Highgate Dental to celebrate Christmas parties or relax with a pint on a Friday after work for many years. Yesterday I hosted a farewell party for one of our longstanding staff members. My initial booking was for twelve people but seventeen people arrived. The amazing team took it in their stride to add more tables and chairs. We were treated in the most professional manner and the service was amazing. The kitchen produced a large number of food orders with precision and the food was excellent! Thank you to the Gatehouse Team for a memorable evening even though we were not an easy group to serve due to the unplanned numbers. Absolutely love The Gatehouse. Our nth trip (too many to count), but we walk up from Marylebone with our black lab and always have a wonderful time - great food - hot and plenty of it - with great beer, wine and attentive service. This time we came with friends who had not been before… but we think will become regulars…

What a wonderful pub!!! It had a wonderful atmosphere with colourful guests, but wasn’t too crowded or too noisy. The mulled cider was perfect in November and the steak and ale pie (for two) was out of this world!! We’ve been coming to London 3 or 4 times a year for 20 years and this was by far and away the best pub experience we’ve had!!! Thank you!! And, a special thank you to Laura our amazing server who took great care of us!!!

Can't fault the food, it was great. I can see why it's voted one of London's best roasts. I've been before and the service was a bit stretched but generally ok. However, this time the service was almost comedically bad. I think they might have not had enough staff in our area and/or we just had one server who let them down. A few highlights... - We arrived 5 minutes early for our booking, but were not seated for another 20 minutes as our table 'wasn't ready' (and walk ins of the same group size were given our table ahead of us that was meant to be being cleaned) - We were seated at a dirty, beer covered table and when politely asking it to be wiped being we were told it had been wiped down - Having to get up and chase down menus (we were there half an hour before getting one) - Having to flag down staff to be served - Starter we ordered never arriving - Food arrived over an hour after our booking started (40 minutes from ordering) - Had to ask to pay the bill twice, and eventually gave up and paid at the bar. - Cherry on the top - being charged service charge!

The best place in Highgate for a Sunday roast. Cozy, convivial, and excellent food. They were also wonderful with our two toddlers in tow. A neighborhood gem!

We dined with our child early Saturday evening. The staff were excellent, no issue with slightly fussy 5 year old and some dietary requirements of the group. With a busy bar and dining room there was plenty of staff, who were very attentive, and nothing was a problem. The food was excellent, what the kitchen did with a pluma cut of pork was delicious.

Really enjoyed this place. We visited for a roast last night and it was delightful. The only thing that let it down was the service - the staff were lovely but there were clearly not enough of them, we really felt for them as they were trying very hard. Our wine came out after our food and we waited over half an hour for the bill before eventually just going up to pay at the bar. I want to reiterate that this was not the servers' fault as they were rushed off their feet, but as a previous restaurant manager I think some reflection needs to be done on adequate staffing levels.

The Sunday roast was absolutely fantastic - huge portions and so yum! The sides we had (padron peppers, cauli cheese & tomato and red onion salad) were also delicious. The atmosphere was also fab - such a lovely pub, really big yet still feels warm. We didn’t have to wait long for the food which was also great. The one thing that was a little disappointing was that we had booked for three people and were then directed to a tiny table where our plates would barely have fit. We did raise this with the staff and although they acknowledged it, it took a good half an hour to find us a new table. The staff did seem a little stressed due to how busy it was. And it just felt like they’d overbooked for the amount of space there was, so that was a little disappointing. However it was sorted in the end so we got to enjoy the food at a bigger table with plenty or space.

Really rude waitress/staff. Walked in and immediately told off for sitting down on an empty table with stools by the bar. No signage on the entrance. Apologised but received a grunt in return. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Atmosphere seemed nice. Feels like a posh greenking.

Today I went to the gatehouse and was surprised to meet a great Scouse His name was Joe he told me to give the pardon peppers a go He gave us some bread yet his chat wasn’t dead Hes such a good fella and I recommend paella But all jokes aside Joe does his job with pride He’s smart and he’s funny I love giving him my money And for all it’s worth I’m so happy that people like him exist on this beautiful earth ❤️

Service personnel were very abrupt and borderline rude. Food was ok. Nothing to write home about. The atmosphere and space was nice as was the beer garden. Worth a visit just for that.

Reserved a table online, but when we arrived there was no table. Bit wierd. Otherwise nice enough place, if a little noisy and over crowded

We asked for various plates and all were exceptional. 2nd time here and best roast so far and I've been to many top end pubs in the area and across London and the country. Please keep it up.

Great pub and have been coming here for more years than I care to admit. Spacious yet cosy and friendly staff and good selection of drinks. Food really nice. Not cheap but i guess standard London pub prices now. Good for a stop off in a HIghgate/Hampstead walk.

Best service in North London. A wonderful lunch!

Everyone in my party of 9 enjoyed their meal (mains only, no starters, plus a few desserts). I had confit rabbit, having been pleasantly surprised to find it on a pub menu. It was very nicely done, and the salad that came with it was actually more than the usual tiny token pinch, also a nice surprise. Service was efficent. Their ice creams apparently come from The Ice Cream Union, and my mango sorbet was excellent. Will go again. (Only four stars for atmosphere, simply because the place was pretty empty on a Monday late evening). Update October 2024: Went again, very good meal once again. Grilled octopus with new potatoes & mojo rojo starter was very nice. Then braised (rather than confit) rabbit with butter beans for me, confit duck with celeriac mash and red wine gravy for Bing; both excellent. Dessert and coffee perfectly fine. Service nice and friendly, even though the place was beginning to fill up and the staff a little busy... Rapidly becoming a favourite!

The beef was extremely tough. We asked for water for the table that didn’t arrive. No member of the waiting staff asked if the meal was ok, at which time we could have raised the points above

Really lovely pub, beautiful lighting, decor and great atmosphere. Very friendly, chatty, helpful and attentive staff who seemed happy to be there - they honestly couldn't do enough for you and nailed it with just the right balance of attention and not being overbearing. Great range of drinks for drinkers, not so much non-drinkers in terms of zero alcohol "grown-up" drinks, but this is a similar theme across the board to be fair. The food came out in perfect time between ordering and arriving and both courses (main and dessert) were delicious! My friend was happy to see one of his favourite digestives on the dessert menu. The pub garden was pretty. A comfortable, welcoming space with heaters and fairy lights. Ladies loos were okay, typical pub loos that start the night clean, tidy and functional and end up a bit of a mess by 10pm. All-in-all, my friend and I had a really lovely evening in this very charming pub and would return, and recommend, in a heartbeat!

Lovely pub and generally a good family Sunday lunch. But suggest sticking to the roasts (which were good) as I had the seafood paella which was not good at all - burnt rice stuck to the bottom of the pan. Sticky toffee pudding was also burnt. Staff were lovely though.

Rosst was amazing. My waitress was friendly. Good service. Definitely will be back again.

Pleasantly surprised by the friendly and efficient waiters (especially Ellie) and the quality of the food was next to none. The burger was to die for! The eating area behind was cozy. A definite "I'll be back".

We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon and were able to get a table in their lovely garden area. Good food, excellent cocktails, good wine list and excellent staff. Delighted to have found this place.

We visited for lunch before a show at the theatre upstairs. Delicious risotto and although we couldn't manage dessert at the time we returned after the show. Lovely staff too. We'll definitely return for both food and entertainment.

The staff were insanely nice. So helpful, so sweet and attentive. Even when we were leaving some of the staff were sat outside during their break and remembered us and said goodbye. Really lovely people. Would go back just based on staff interactions. Lovely.

We live in North Yorkshire, so it is quite a distance to be a regular guest at the Gatehouse. We rely enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, Laura was looking after us: a lovely jung lady: thanks a lot!!

La paella de calamares negros era preciosa al igual que las croquetas y los pimientos padrón. Buen vino y ambiente maravilloso. Sin duda recomendaría.

It was a lovely last-minute choice for Sunday Roast to finally visit The Gatehouse, as we had designs elsewhere, but all were sold out at 5pm (reasonable, obviously!) However, the offerings here exceeded our expectations, and some in our group also had haddock and chips, which was delightfully huge, very well cooked and crispy fish, with plenty of chunky chips. The chicken roast was sublime, gravy was plentiful and meaty, and the veg was as soft and crispy as each carrot, potato, and cabbage leaf should be! The servers were very busy but attentive and friendly, and my only real chagrin was the price was fairly high compared to other local offerings - but that's simply the standard of the venue, so acceptable. All in all, well worth a visit to eat, and it's actually a very popular and nicely laid out pub too!

Hay varias zonas para beber o comer, aunque estábamos sentados en la zona de restaurantes que era un poco más tranquilo. Teníamos una variedad de platos principales, incluyendo pescado y patatas fritas, un besugo con una influencia asiática y un plato de calabaza vegetariana. Todas nuestras comidas estaban bien cocinadas y agradables. Nos saltamos el vino aunque la lista parece interesante en una mezcla de cervezas. Incluyendo desiertos que estaban bien nuestra factura llegó a 160 libras por 4. El servicio era bueno y todos nos gustaría ir de nuevo.

Tried the pre theatre menu. Lacked choice. Two fish dishes and a veggie dish. My friend does not eat fish so no choice really. Starters ok. Service is very slow and our waitress was not very attentive
