Only been once, on a warm Thursday evening, but despite the hundreds (and there really are many hundreds) of people there, the service is friendly and efficient. There aren’t a lot of pubs in this area which might explain why it gets so busy, but even so it’s a nice place to go, a decent looking pub, good service, and with a large outside area. Didn’t see any walruses. Or carpenters, that I know of.

I recently visited The Walrus And The Carpenter and had the pleasure of being served by Jim, the manager. From the moment I walked in, Jim made it clear he values his customers and the overall atmosphere of the pub. His friendly demeanor and attentive service truly set the tone for a fantastic evening. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable about the drinks menu, but he also took the time to chat with customers, creating a warm, welcoming vibe that made the pub feel like home. It’s obvious he takes pride in the pub’s operation, from the well-kept beer taps to the cozy atmosphere. He even remembered our names after a few interactions, which added a personal touch to the experience. If you’re looking for great service, a friendly atmosphere, and someone who genuinely cares about the pub experience, Jim is the manager you want to meet. Highly recommend stopping by when he’s running the show!

The pub were kind enough to host our International Women's Day event in a private bar area which was lovely. was very impressed with the food and also the staff were lovely.

I attended The Walrus and The Carpenter for a private event and the venue was lovely in a great, central location. The lunch buffet was delicious and the staff incredibly friendly and attentive - thank you!

The most incredible hosts, catering for the function, with initial coffee/tea fruit and biscuits upon arrival, followed by the most delicious buffet lunch. The buffet catered for all preferences both vegetarian and meat lovers. They kept urn topped up and a variety of teas and coffee available for the whole function, nothing was too much trouble. Thoroughly recommend.

This is our post choir pub. Every Monday for the last decade. ̶L̶o̶v̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶.̶ *EDIT* I help run a choir just up the lane and every Monday evening about 30-40 (sometimes many more as our choir is now 120 people!) go to the Walrus for a post rehearsal drink or four and some social time. We've been doing this for over 10 years. But in the recent weeks there has been a complete change in the ambience with obnoxiously loud music blaring all evening. You cannot hear yourself think, let alone have a conversation with someone standing next to you. The staff are incredibly rude now, and when asked to turn it down, they actually turned it up. As a result we are now changing our post rehearsal pub, which is an incredible shame and the end of an era.

They don't do table service like in many pubs for this 4 star rating. Excellent food (typical pub food), reasonable prices. Stylish place. It's a shame for television that makes it lose some of its charm. I recommend it if you are in those parts.

I arranged an industry networking event in the upstairs dining room. The process of booking and making arrangements was really straightforward and facilitated by a member of the team called Steph. The room is spacious and has good acoustics, the food was great and our host on the bar, Emmy, could not have been more helpful. Highly recommend!

Having spent the day being tourists and exhausted the food, the service and the atmosphere were brilliant... OMG the honey glazed sausages

We were late but they were very kind, so we could eat in this fantastic local.

Reservé este pub para una fiesta de cumpleaños. Tenía salas disponibles para tales eventos y como pub de Nicholson sabía que la comida, las bebidas y el servicio serían buenos. No me decepcionó. La comida pedida era muy sabrosa. Las bebidas estaban bien, aunque he conocido esta cadena para tener una opción mucho mejor de borrador de amargos. Incluso tenían un ron premium, Goslings Black Seal. El personal era profesional e incluso pidió bebidas solo disponibles en la planta baja en el bar principal. En general, un momento agradable tenido por todos, familiares y amigos.

We went upstairs for lunch. We were a large group, but were easily accommodated. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and I loved the atmosphere. As a Lewis Carroll, I absolutely adored the setting.

Pub on the first floor, meals on the second floor It took quite a while for the food to come out, but it was plentiful and delicious. The staff are also kind.

Perfect for a little British experience in this hustling city. In addition to the traditional britisch dishes you also find good vegetarian options. Enjoyed the vegetarian pie.

Such a cute rustic little bar, when I think English pub this will always be what I remember. Such friendly staff. I needed to charge my phone and the just let me by an outlet for free so I bought a drink along side with it. Super kind of them.

Fabulous Christmas lunch at the Walrus & Carpenter. Staff were all super helpful and friendly particularly Steph - excellent communication with her throughout the whole booking process and top service on the day. Food was excellent. Good venue location and the dining room was laid out as discussed (tables cleared to the sides so that staff could mingle and enjoy their buffet lunch in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere). The venue was decorated beautifully and festively. Cannot think of one thing I would change. Everything was exactly as discussed

I came with my team at work for a Christmas lunch. The food was really top notch, with each element of the dishes cooked very well. Our main meal came with a gravy boat, which was very much appreciated. As the pictures show, there was a good mixture of vegetables, potatoes and turkey in the meal I chose. Once others had left the pub/restaurant, the atmosphere dropped off, but we had a great time out. A downstairs room with a bar was also booked out for private use, which was spacious and enabled easy group conversations after the meal.

Had our work christmas lunch here and the food was pretty good! I enjoyed my turkey dinner but my dessert wasn’t great, the custard had a weird aftertaste which ruined my whole crumble :(

Brilliant, classic atmosphere in a nice area. Two of the cask pale ales were sour, it’s bad, but happens. However, the bartender tried to convince me that this was normal. No, the Dark Star is never been tart in other pubs.

Typical pub food, very good quality and vegan too! Will eat there again next time I visit London.

Tuvimos una selección de aperitivos que eran muy buena relación calidad-precio y la cerveza estaba bien cuidada y bien presentada. Los baños estaban limpios y bien cuidados, lo que fue un poco de novedad en este viaje a Londres. El personal era atento y amable. Lamentablemente cuando volvimos el domingo estaba cerrado , lo que nos dimos cuenta que es bastante común en esta zona de la ciudad

It's our local after work pub. Along with the entire surrounding area of drinkers. The staff are so good, friendly and always have a smile. Also stop off there when in London with the kids for food. Top pies.

Really nice old pub,just around the corner from fenchurch St,Monument, etc.so it's very handy for trains. A Nicholson's pub so you are in for some lovely food & excellent choice of ales ,I was not disappointed i had the steak and ale pie with mash,wife had fish and chips, excellent size portions & really tasty, & the ale tried 3 different one's, not to many as we had to go to the Royal Albert Hall. Thank you for the excellent service, brilliant food &beers will definitely be going back again..

Mi esposa y yo vinimos para un almuerzo tardío y tuvimos el pescado y scampi más el schnitzel y ambos eran porciones generosas y muy agradable... la cerveza de Harvey en el lugar era fantástico y cómo debería saber, ya que parecen limpiar las líneas regularmente y a un precio decente para la ciudad. . el personal era genial, especialmente Max que tuvo tiempo para charlar y responder preguntas. . probablemente mi pub favorito Nicholsons re la ubicación, decoración y el personal y la cerveza! This is a really great pub, very friendly staff and great range of beer. Sadly, I didn’t get to eat here as they had a private function on and I had to get to the theatre - not the fault. Top marks to the staff who came out to explain to me and refund immediately(I ordered via the QR code on the table). £7 a pint, which is fairly standard - however worth it for the range and they look after their casks and it really tells.

Though it was early and a Monday know from history this place has great atmosphere. Good was great, asked for medium rare burger and was cook to perfection. Beef pie was what a proper pie should be per wife. Monica was a great server.👍👍

Really like this pub. Traditional. Serves good food and also happens to be located near a curry house should you decide to move on.

Gran comida - personal servicial. Pedimos comida que estaba bien presentado, delicioso y a un precio razonable. Es agradable ver un pub tradicional prosperar. Está en una excelente ubicación muy cerca del Támesis y el monumento. Teníamos bocadillos con patatas fritas que disfrutamos mucho.

It is a popular pub that is reasonably close to London Bridge and Tower Bridge, and is filled with locals who work in the area on weekdays. I really liked the fish and chips, both in terms of texture and taste, and the beer was reasonably priced. If you just drink it, it will cost you ~£20, and if you have a meal + 1 glass, it will cost you ~£30, so it seems good for everyday use.

The Nicholson's burger and the beef burger are both fantastic! Friendly service

On Saturday, almost two o'clock in the afternoon, we found this pub @nicholsonspubs with very few people, practically only Londoners. We ordered Fish and Chips and decided to try the famous pie, very tasty and without pepper. This pub has a very interesting story. I liked everything. Menu photos May 2024

We went in to this pub whilst on holiday recently. Had a very enjoyable experience with plenty of food and drink options. We enjoyed a lunch and a few drinks and found the staff to be very friendly with a good knowledge of the food and drinks. Would definitely go back next time we are in london.

T’was a fine Monday bank holiday evening some 2 months ago, when I stumbled across the walrus and the carpenter. Upon entry, I was overwhelmed from the warmest of welcomes. I must say, still 2 months later, I cannot stop thinking of how benevolent and courageous one worker was in particular. Abby, I thank you for going above and beyond and making such a difficult day trying to find somewhere good for a drink so much better. I’m not sure if this will reach you Abby, but one is full of thanks for finding you in my endeavours. Take care all, Dan.

What a shame... have been meaning to come here for a while. Should be a great pub - Nicholson pubs often are - but it was just charmless.. drunken Friday night crowd to whom the bored staff continued to serve tequillas. Ten minutes to even be acknowledged.. barely looked at.. our round interrupted stopped halfway for barman to chat with his friends and top up their drinks We felt like an inconvenience. . Won't be returning.

As a tourist and first time visitor, would consider this as a typical english pub and I really liked it. They have a wide range of different beers and staff is really helpful.
