It's our local after work pub. Along with the entire surrounding area of drinkers. The staff are so good, friendly and always have a smile. Also stop off there when in London with the kids for food. Top pies.

Would highly recommend this pub which is vey close to Monument. Highly recommend the vegan mushroom pie which is delicious, check out the photo!! Great friendly staff too. Check it out !

My wife and myself came in for a late lunch and had the Fish and scampi plus the schnitzel and both were generous portions and very nice… the Harvey’s beer on site was fantastic and how it should taste as they seem to clean the lines regularly and at a decent price for the city.. staff were great especially Max who had time to chat and answer out questions.. probably my Favourite Nicholsons pub re the location, decour and staff and the beer ! Will definitely be back soon

Really nice old pub,just around the corner from fenchurch St,Monument, etc.so it's very handy for trains. A Nicholson's pub so you are in for some lovely food & excellent choice of ales ,I was not disappointed i had the steak and ale pie with mash,wife had fish and chips, excellent size portions & really tasty, & the ale tried 3 different one's, not to many as we had to go to the Royal Albert Hall. Thank you for the excellent service, brilliant food &beers will definitely be going back again..

Beth was the nicest bartender ever, so attentive and made sure we understood the menu and what to get. Fantastic bartender would definitely recommend!

This is a really great pub, very friendly staff and great range of beer. Sadly, I didn’t get to eat here as they had a private function on and I had to get to the theatre - not the fault. Top marks to the staff who came out to explain to me and refund immediately(I ordered via the QR code on the table). £7 a pint, which is fairly standard - however worth it for the range and they look after their casks and it really tells.

Though it was early and a Monday know from history this place has great atmosphere. Good was great, asked for medium rare burger and was cook to perfection. Beef pie was what a proper pie should be per wife. Monica was a great server.👍👍

Really like this pub. Traditional. Serves good food and also happens to be located near a curry house should you decide to move on.

Great pub with huge outside area. Plenty of staff so even when it is busy (it can get VERY busy), you never have to wait too long for a drink!

Great Food- helpful staff. We ordered food which was well presented , delicious and reasonably priced. It’s nice to see a traditional pub thriving . It’s in a great location very close to the Thames and Monument . We had sandwiches with chips which we thoroughly enjoyed .

It is a popular pub that is reasonably close to London Bridge and Tower Bridge, and is filled with locals who work in the area on weekdays. I really liked the fish and chips, both in terms of texture and taste, and the beer was reasonably priced. If you just drink it, it will cost you ~£20, and if you have a meal + 1 glass, it will cost you ~£30, so it seems good for everyday use.

The Nicholson's burger and the beef burger are both fantastic! Friendly service

On Saturday, almost two o'clock in the afternoon, we found this pub @nicholsonspubs with very few people, practically only Londoners. We ordered Fish and Chips and decided to try the famous pie, very tasty and without pepper. This pub has a very interesting story. I liked everything. Menu photos May 2024

We went in to this pub whilst on holiday recently. Had a very enjoyable experience with plenty of food and drink options. We enjoyed a lunch and a few drinks and found the staff to be very friendly with a good knowledge of the food and drinks. Would definitely go back next time we are in london.

T’was a fine Monday bank holiday evening some 2 months ago, when I stumbled across the walrus and the carpenter. Upon entry, I was overwhelmed from the warmest of welcomes. I must say, still 2 months later, I cannot stop thinking of how benevolent and courageous one worker was in particular. Abby, I thank you for going above and beyond and making such a difficult day trying to find somewhere good for a drink so much better. I’m not sure if this will reach you Abby, but one is full of thanks for finding you in my endeavours. Take care all, Dan.

What a shame... have been meaning to come here for a while. Should be a great pub - Nicholson pubs often are - but it was just charmless.. drunken Friday night crowd to whom the bored staff continued to serve tequillas. Ten minutes to even be acknowledged.. barely looked at.. our round interrupted stopped halfway for barman to chat with his friends and top up their drinks We felt like an inconvenience. . Won't be returning.

As a tourist and first time visitor, would consider this as a typical english pub and I really liked it. They have a wide range of different beers and staff is really helpful.

Great spot that was next to the sights but not crowded. Really enjoyed the food, pints of beer and the atmosphere. There was a vegetarian lentil pie option which turned out to be amazing.

I've been cycling past this pub for about a decade, but I was finally in the area and looking for a pub and remembered it. It's a Nicholson's pub, with the usual range of beers (pretty good) and a good pub atmosphere. On a Saturday evening there seemed to be quite a lot of tourists there and they were doing a good food trade. Judging by the crowds I sometimes see outside, it's mainly a City after work pub.

A good looking corner pub with a wide range of beer.

Good service and nice pub but food very lacklustre and expensive. Salad was supposed to have rice and quinoa in it but had barely any. Pie was small and had very little to go with it. Sausages a little burnt and drowned in gravy. Dropped nearly £85 total and what we got for that in terms of food is definitely not worth it. Also a staff member was on break and was sat watching football on a phone with the speakers on right next to us which kind of ruined the atmosphere. Just felt a bit ripped off to be honest.

No one comes to take an order at the table, no one tells us that orders are only made at the bar (no crowds) and when we order food we are told that there is too much waiting. In short, no service in this bar. We left.

We had a private party in the Lewis Carroll Room for approx 55 people. From the very first we were very impressed with the communication with Steph who answered all our numerous questions and made suggestions to streamline the night. The space was perfect, big enough but cozy. The buffet food was interesting and tasty and came out at exactly the time we planned. The bar was well stocked and we appreciated all the well kept cask ale on offer. The sound system was plenty loud enough for dancing. The dedicated toilets were a bonus. Many of our guests said they would consider using the venue themselves because it was such a success and so easy to get to. There was nothing negative about our experience.

It holds timeless elegance through extensive shop windows with art deco droplet lights. Richly decorative ceiling paper set the chandeliers & glorious, original, cut glass pendant lamps. A superb range of draught beers, with excellent choice & variety. A good selection of comfortable seating & outdoor street drinking at e end of the picturesque Lovat Lane. The bar stretches round the core with a beautifully carved wood, heritage back bar with decorative columns & a wonderful service archway at one end. Another carved wood archway stands inside the corner main entry. There's discreetly large sceeens at height. The atmosphere is serene, calm, relaxation, this is a hidden gem 💎 go find it.

A traditional London pup with a good deco and a choice of beers/ drinks. One thing they have got to sort out (must do) is the toilets. The smell is overwhelming and drifts into the pub properly spoiling the atmosphere when using the facilities or even sitting anywhere near it.

Proper pub, good staff, great place for a drink. Haven't eaten there but as it's just down the road from my office I'm sure I'll be trying it soon.

The restaurant is called Walrus and Carpenter, but nothing inside points to the name or Lewis Carroll. I think a few decorations or menu items could bring warm memories about the book.

Excellent pub run by some very excellent staff. The indoor seating is great and we felt accommodated the moment we entered. We celebrated one of our friends 40th birthday 🎂 there and the staff were just very kind. Well done to the pubs team. Good luck.
