Didn't have food quite a big pub had to look for a seat busy.

We booked in for a Sunday roast with jazz and my husband devoured the lamb shank. He said it was amazing. I’m gluten free and had the vegan burger with fries it really was delicious. Atmosphere was great, two men played guitar. Couldn’t fault anything, it was great all round I post everything on my instagram account @healthyfoodsmiff . So good!

We had a vegan roast in the club room. Amazing food and fun people watching. Nice live music.

Dropped in on the off chance there was availability for two hungry ladies and there was 😊 Both beef and pork roast were bloomin’ delicious - having the very lovely Dan as our server was the cherry on top. Thank you - we will be back. Alli & Eray x

Great food, huge yorkies! Tasty veggie burger. Very busy as it was post Brighton Half Marathon, they were run off their feet, however it was an hour to get 1 course and no time for a dessert as they only allowed 1:45 for our table which was a shame.

A really lovely, bustling pub in the heart of Brighton with excellent staff, drinks and food. And a superb smoking area.

We were lucky enough to book a table for 4 through the First Table app. To achieve 50% off the bill, each person has to order one beverage and at least two courses. We had our 11¾ month old godson with us. The two servers worked around us, we didn't feel rushed or forgotten. I chose the buffalo wings to start, I was expecting 4 possibly 5, there must have been 8 or 9 with a good amount of sauce and blue cheese dip. For main I had the fish and chunky chips which came with garden peas and tartar sauce. The batter was a little well done for me but was more than edible. I would definitely return even without the 50% discount.

Good food and great atmosphere for a drink, however that pint will be overpriced

I love this place. My band holds our open mic here once a month, we hold our band meetings here and my friend group had our Xmas meal here last year, so I eat here quite regularly. The fish is excellent, but honestly the stand out must-have on the menu is the chips, they put everything else in Brighton to shame. The staff are bloody lovely people too which makes all the difference. Stop reading this and just go!

Mixed - I was there for a drag show downstairs and that was brilliant!! I nearly walked out when I walked into the main pub though - Friday night and rammed and not my kind of pub. Mostly a non-Brighton like crowd - mostly the sort of smart/casual backslappers and shouters that live elsewhere.

Lovely place for a decent drink. Nice premises and atmosphere. Didn't eat, but the food and menu looked good. Highly recommended

Such high expectations after reading some of the reviews unfortunately didn't deliver. My sisters researched for somewhere to go to celebrate our mothers 90th birthday and it seemed The Walrus would be a good shout. Decor and staff great, food very disappointing. Being a Sunday we all went for the roast, some for roast Beef and a couple for Lamb shank. Gravy was without doubt Bisto or something similar, tasteless and classic Bisto look. Beef was so tough we couldn't get the knives through it let alone consume it. Lamb shank again was bland a little over done and when you drench it in a tasteless gravy you've ruined it even more. Roast potatoes where I can only assume Aunt Bessies, vegetables were edible thankfully. When making the one of the staff that we were disappointed, they offered a glass on the house but still charged for the meal which wasn't actually eaten as it was so bad. We didn't feel it right to start the process of arguing with the staff as they were great but should have kicked back when the bill arrived. Would I return? No, shame given the ambiance, staff, location etc...Food however a massive let down.

Excellent Sunday Roast, really hit the spot in the best way possible. Attentive and welcoming staff (particularly Dan) and allowed us to sit down earlier than we’d booked for. Appreciated this as it was freezing outside. Will definitely go back for sure.

Great little pub, staff very efficient and friendly. Spent a Friday night in Jan and then Saturday lunch. Signed up for WiFi and received a £5 voucher! Brilliant.

Never been the biggest fan of this pub due to its size and not the most mobility friendly. Can be overwhelming. I have to say though, it was a lovely roast me and my friends had for a pals birthday celebration last week. There wasn't a veggie option that matched my dietary requirements [intolerant to pulses] and a bit too many sprouts when a parsnip would have been great BUT the service was on point, especially for how busy it was and the food was cooked really well and everyone enjoyed their meals so 😊

Sunday roasts here are the best ever, third visit now following a fecommendatikn to try it, always here on a Sunday when we're in Brighton

I went for a roast today which was slightly disappointing for a dish priced at £21, though the lamb was great, you could tell the yorkshire pudding was reheated as well as the roast potatoes which was soggy. The atmosphere and staff were all very lovely just abit disappointed with the roast itself.

Came here for a staff Christmas lunch. Had to have the 12.30pm slot as later wasn't available. Unfortunately it was a total disappointment. Lots of the food was cold so some had to be sent back. Some of the team didn't want to send it back so just ate it Luke warm. The roast potatoes weren't crispy at all. The turkey was good and not dry. We ordered side dishes of cauliflower cheese which was awful. Really watery sauce. Had to be sent back and didn't want a replacement as I felt it would be the same. A side dish of Brussel sprouts with bacon was cold so I sent them back, they were also extremely hard. Service was not on point. Had to really work hard to get the staff's attention for drink refills and then they missed a bottle of wine. If it had been really full it would have made more sense but there were still empty tables. After taking a break from taking our team to one of the big Brighton hotels at Christmas for an evening to actually sit down for good food it was such a disappointment. We wouldn't risk it again for sure.

I popped in on the off chance to get a Sunday roast. I had the beef, it was fabulous. Excellent food & service.

The roast dinner is to die for. Served lovely and hot, lamb on the menu too. Roast potatoes are deliciously fluffy and crunchy, Yorkshire puddings are massive and amazing. However this is insignificant because the service both at the bar and the restaurant is wonderful, it is like being in a really good friend's house. Maddie was our server, beautiful and funny but not invasive. I cannot wait to return, save some lamb for me.

Cavernous walrus. Nice selection of real ale including their delicious house beer. The lunch time meal deal with a pint is one of the best bargains in that part of town I think. Had burgers at the bar and no complaints.

First visit to this bar in the heart of the lanes. Background music on offer at a very low level. Service was excellent with staff having knowledge of the promotion I was using. Wide choice of drinks Didn't check out the menu. So can't give feedback on the food on offer. Will definitely be using this venue more often. Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 Food: n/a Total: 4/5

Went for the south park quiz and loved it. Very nice pub with beautiful decor and very nice beer garden upstairs.

The meal tonight for a booking of 16 was a big let down and very disappointing. It was a "pre Christmas" get together, but feel the chef needs to get a lot of practice in before Christmas comes. The cheese board was the worst I have ever seen, and how simple is it? Not a happy customer. Service was great though. Karen Baillie.

The basement bar was the perfect venue for the Hammer and Tongue Poetry night. I will be back!

Fantastic Sunday Roast and superb service in a very busy dining room.

Party of 7 went for Sunday roast and it was excellent. We liked a lot the place's decoration, wooden environment and the atmosphere of the restaurant. The restaurant is incredibly big, you cannot wonder it is like that from outside. We got the pork, beef and trio and all were really taste and crunchy. The jazz sessions were perfect! Not to be missed.

Dan is amazing!! We went for our anniversary back in September and had a lovely time - food was exemplary and even got a free dessert on top (with a beautiful heart drawn on it 😂). Thanks guys!!

Huge pub with nice roof terrace! Good roast!

This place was recommended to us by a local as “best Sunday roast in Brighton”… however, it was not for us and I later found out after my feedback to my mate that he had only eaten here once a long time ago! Very disappointing- I & my party of 4 others, we give it 6/10 for the food. However, the service was very good and at the end when our waitress collected our plates which had a lot of food left over on them, she was very sympathetic when we said the food wasn’t great, & she asked what was the issue: Too much red cabbage which wasn’t very pleasant, weird tasting carrots, which were too oily and some in my party thought the roast potatoes were too garlicky. The “supreme” chicken which is just chicken breast with the skin on had zero seasoning & no flavour, it wasn’t that moist either. Two of us that had this, felt this. The lentil wellington, had by 2 others, they both felt it was far too bland, again no flavour. The one who had the steak, only ate the steak and broccoli. He had some fat or gristle in one mouthful towards the end of the steak and had to spit it out. The Yorkshire puddings were on the verge of burnt. I ordered an extra side of cauliflower cheese which was very saucy and didn’t even taste Cheesey! Our waitress spoke to her manager about this who kindly agreed to give us 20% off the bill. However, even after the goodwill gesture of 20% off, it was still £110 - & for this very below par meal, it still seemed too much for how little we all ate (only 1 had 1 alcoholic drink + 3 non alcoholic drinks). I think the chef must’ve changed since my friend last visited here. Just a very disappointing Sunday lunch all round.

Went there last Sunday for a Roast, quality of the food has gone down hill, broccoli barely cooked, Yorkshire puddings nearly burned, way to much red cabbage on plate which wasn’t even done properly. Waiters on ground floor, barely pay attention to customers. Beautiful decor and overall nice vibes, maybe need to offer better pay to get better staff? Who knows

We went to the gamestars drag brunch and it was fantastic! We laughed so much, the games were accessable to all and the prosecco came round generously. The two drag hosts were wonderful, thank you very much for a wonderful afternoon 😊💕

We are 2 Spanish: One with celiac disease. It is the perfect place to eat gluten-free food. I loved it and the waiters were super attentive and polite.

Cozy Pub close to the seaside. Barstaff was very friendly and had good recommodations.

Quirky central Brighton pub, labyrinthine over many levels. Small stage productions also done here. Kinda a roof terrace (glass roof over), many booths, various booze offerings. Worth popping in

A confused review, the place is so cool and the staff are amazing, but hold your self back, the food is a different picture, so class example goes with the starter was amazing, the chipson my plate where next level, the chicken burger is anther story, it is dry and needed help to be eaten, sad reallly because every thing else here was brillant, Oh and the other thing is make sure your google maps is open and upto date as there loo is a bit of a hike to find, made a weather Spoons loo great compared to find but other wise this is a great well run place, also dont other the steak ether as both people who ordered this discribed it as a jaw ace to eat.

A pub and so much more .... enter an enchanting enticing dark and cosy snug and realise there is more and more as you pass through.... eclectic larger areas for groups, bijoux booths, roof top wow and basement fun ... loved it ... great staff too made us very welcome!!

Delicious vegan wellington - huge Sunday roast portion with free gravy refills for £16! We were a group of 8 and the waitress was super patient with our demands - great service :)

Superb pub great atmosphere and super staff food looked great especially the roasts. The Walrus is huge because there are more bars upstairs and on the roof 10/10 to the Portabello group, a good range of independent ales too.

Want to say a massive thank you to all on Sunday. Our booking elsewhere got cancelled without notice and you managed to accommodate us for my dad's 60th. Great service and great food. Thank you

The staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy and unique. As an American, this was everything I expected in a proper English pub. Was recommended to me by a friend and Brighton local. A wedding reception was going on upstairs when we visited, so it seems they host parties and events. 10/10 would visit again given the chance.

Amazing quirky boozer, the Sunday roast was sublime. The pub has lots of character & the staff are super friendly, if you're in Brighton this place is a must visit..!

Enjoyable roast beef for Sunday lunch. Really decent portions and great meat but personally think there’s room for improvement on the Yorkshire and roast potatoes. Lovely pub.

A decent Sunday roast at 6pm, which is unfortunately a rare find

We had a really tasty vegetarian Sunday roast. Lentil and vegetable Wellington was moist and delicious with really nice pastry. Portion was huge with lots of vegetables, not overcooked. Would definitely order again.

We had an amazing evening at the Walrus on our annual trip to Brighton. The pub looks amazing and quirky with booths, back rooms and the amazing garden that is truly a hidden gem. Food was excellent, special mention to the fries, the lamb with edamame and peas and the nice surprise of the Monday Roast which was very tasty and huge! Service was very friendly and prompt. Cannot fault anything. See you next year 😉

Private party, but was excellent

We attended a baby shower held at this pub for my nephew & his partner. The staff were really helpful & friendly. The venue is a bit like a Tardis!

I left the review below and have since been in touch with the Walrus - they've handle the situation very well and I'm really impressed with their communication and resolving of the issue - thank you. Used to absolutely love this pub so tried to take our friends there tonight after a meal in the restaurant opposite, only to be turned away for 'being intoxicated', I hadn't drank all night and the other three in our group had shared a bottle of wine. When we explained this the security guard couldn't care less, we asked the other security guard if he agreed and he just said 'he's the boss'. Absolutely mad. Ps I have just seen the review below mine, we were a different group so security guard obviously was on a power trip!

Went to the bottomless brunch on Saturday for a hen party hosted by Philomena and Alec and it was brilliant. Great food, great service and great entertainment. We had so so much fun!

Appalling staff on door. Very unpleasant and rude. Passive aggressive and looking for reason to exclude our party. Accused my teetotal mother of being intoxicated so denied our party of 6 entry. Quite glad not to give any of our money. We were prepared to stay for at least an hour

Was early for a restaurant booking so stopped for pre-drink. Smelt weed in the entrance and a very unpleasant urine type smell inside.

Big ol' pub. Often get lost and end up having a lil adventure. It's a great pub with lots of space both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor area out back is pretty good as it's covered from the rain. The food was pretty good but nothing special in my opinion. It can get very busy on the weekends. The beer selection is not amazing but good.

Great Sunday Roast! Vegetarian "Roast" option was also superb! Excellent service and great atmosphere, highly recommended.

Amazing Maze!!! Love that you can roam around 3 floors and get lost. 10 screens if you wanna follow the UEFA Euros + roof-garden. The Chorizo Scotch Egg is a must-try!!! Deep-fried to perfection. Egg yolk is neither runny nor dry. Batter is crisp, chorizo adds a great spicy flavor. The piccalilly mayonnaise rounds it off with a tangy and creamy feel.

Worth a visit for the gluten free fish and chips, tend to always pop in if I'm ever in Brighton.

The best roast dinner I’ve had in a pub for a long time, both in taste and volume. Highly recommended. I’ve been in and out on many occasions (I also run events here during Brighton Fringe) without enough time to eat, and really like the Monday roast concept for all of us super busy at weekends.

Didn't try the food. But great drinks. A little pricey but to be expected for such a great venue.
