The Vulcan - JD Wetherspoon in North Lanarkshire

Had Lunch here today I’m a chef with 18years experience in the hospitality industry The entire meal was an absolute joke The pakora tasted like a dirty fryer The peppercorn sauce had been made with milk and no peppercorns in site The fried egg was pretty much scrambled rather than fried the gammon was definitely not 8oz The steak pie pastry was so soggy and like play dough and the steak pie was absolutely disgusting alongside frozen veg We were offered menus, i then asked for a drinks menu to be told they didn’t have that either I would honestly rate this establishment as the worst hospitality business in lanarkshire Being a highly skilled and well known chef in Scotland for many years, I would not recommend anyone to eat food from this establishment nor pay for absolutely rancid food I definitely think this business is in need of a full new kitchen brigade as the standards are absolutely shocking and needs to be acted on as totally unacceptable and the worse meal I have ever had in my life Fair to say the meals were left on the table and definitely won’t be back and will definitely be spreading the word of this absolutely shocking experience In which we also have photos of the shocking meals provided definitely not worth te hat was paid

Was at one time it was a wetherspoons but has changed hands.Very quiet and not much choice of beers.

Servers were lovely and welcoming. Fish n chips was disgusting. Fish obviously fried, allowed to go cold, then microwaved making batter rubbery and greasy. Carrots exactly the same, (like rubber). Tbf lentil soup was lovely, as was steak pie. Chef should be embarrassed!!! Chef said because the fish 'had been partially eaten,' (my partner tried in vain to just eat the fish), then no refund would be considered. No refund was being sought by us!

Nice place to go for food, it's got music on in the background but it isn't to loud. A good place to meet up have some food and a drink. 😊

Food is lovely and generous portions. Staff are very friendly.

Since being taken over, the food has improved drastically. Food was great, staff were great and prices were great. The cheese cake and ice cream were a different lever. 5* stuff cheers. See you soon.

Recently bought 3 pints John Smiths here. Was clear by just looking at them that something was a bit off. No head to speak of except a thin layer of foamy bubbles. Tasted it and straight away was clear that it was a bad keg, tasted terrible. Took it back and pointed it out to the staff. She then poured a little sample and took it to someone sitting up by the window, came back and said, well no one else has complained so nothing I can do about it. Really poor service, not interested in fixing the problem. Anyone who knows beers knows they were not right just by looking at them. Interestingly, when I pointed it out initially, the other staff member commented 'I've already told them to change that keg today'. So they knew it was off but continued to sell it.

For a weatherspoons pub in Coatbridge to charge £3.95p for a tenants lager is ridiculous, won't be back, not surprised there was only four customers

It's changed a lot since we were last here. It's no longer a weatherspoons. Still reasonable prices though. A bit run down.

Friendly staff! They treat ya like family! Came there for breakfast and I enjoyed my time there! Had to try the 'Big Daddy' English Breakfast and I didn't regret one thing! Excellent food, amazing homely atmosphere and top notch food!👌

Only place we could find which was dog friendly. Iam so glad it was the pub was perfect for all the family eating, drinking and watching the Euros. Fantastic atmosphere for the Scotland game. Mon- Thursday 3 courses meal deal is an absolute bargin !!! Family 4 - £52 - it would have been less but after seeing the gammon roast on Sunday. I had to try it for myself on Monday, so pleased I did followed by apple pie.

Owner screaming at customers to leave the beer garden before ordering and cut off the same customers when they went to order. Power tripping owners that can't even cut their own grass garden looks like it's been abandoned for years

Visited here this morning (27/04/24) for breakfast. I'm up from Leeds visiting relatives. I fully enjoyed my breakfast. Very tasty. Good quality, great service. The lady who served us was very helpful. Thank you for the great service

Found hairs on my plate. Showed it to the staff and she said.. ‘what do you want me to do about it’ No replacement or refund offered

Cut open my fish water and grease poured out from inside the batter tryed to eat it .couldn't .fish was poorly cooked and rest time on hotplate to crisp and fat drain off. My freind had a burger which he said were previously outstanding. Was not so good ,my freind put it down to a possible different Sheff.soup starter and pakaroa were excellent!

Nice friendly place for a meal and drink.

Always meet family here for a catch up, really nice food and very reasonably priced and love the big comfy chairs to relax in. Would defo recommend 👍

My "local" - nice atmosphere when it's not too busy - good food but please keep the door near the kitchen closed - it can get a bit cold and it smells of smoke - would've got more stars if they fixed this.... Now changed hands - so no rotating ales but does have Chieftain on tap... very nice 5.5% ale --- good food menu too - pensioners specials

Staff very welcoming, atmosphere was so chilled and food was delicious, looks plain but was so good. Not been in for over 5 years and will be back regularly. 👍

Had macaroni cheese, was pretty nice. Couldn't fault it.

Lovely friendly welcome. All the french windows and doors were open as it was really warm which was much appreciated. Ordering was easy; go to bar with table number and order and pay there. Went for breakfast and really enjoyed it. We all had the same; the Wee Jimmy which was lorne sausage, fried egg, bacon, potato scone and beans. It comes with a slice of toast as well. All was hot and fresh and tasted lovely. Staff member was very attentive and made our morning very pleasant.

A warm welcome awaits you and your family, wheelchair accessible, atmosphere is laid back and informal, even the duty manager serves you, the beer is local and the food is excellent, the portions are huge and the curry club on a Thursday is fantastic.... Highly recommend The Vulcan.

Used to be a wetherspoons chain pub,its still okay but as expected the prices have went up and up,loyalty obviously does not pay when the cards were taken away.

Please note this is not a weatherspoons anymore, should have known when walking in at lunch time instead of being crowded ,there was only about 6 customers. Pub prices.

Great home cooked food, great beer and service. I'd definitely recommend a visit if you're after a fairly priced meal.

Met up with bunch of guys for Pre stag do drinks 👌reasonably priced drinks and big enough for all 43 of us 🤣.

Had Fish and chips with mushy peas and a couple of pints. The price was great, pints were tasty and the food was well cooked and plentiful.

Dinner not up to scratch got lasagne was more pasta sheets than anything..prior to this got club sandwich which was covered in chilli jam when we complained we were told oh the kitchen liked it that way..and manager approved it this way..but maybe customers opinions should be considered more ..when manager approached us after leaving from his house to come and speak to us about this he didnt give me a chance to respond to the matter we have been regulars at this pub from before it was a wetherspoons spending 200 a week easy we realised we r just a number..very disappointed with this place thought of staff as friends but obv no matter what u spend ur not any better thought of .

Visited the vulcan with my partner and her family it was nice inside. I had a burger it was very nice. I enjoyed everybite, and everyone else seemed to enjoy the food the staff was friendly and attentive I would go here again. The name appealed to the geek in me. 😄 🤣

Nice and clean pub that offers food. We were just in for breakfast. It was a bit disappointing as it looked good but not much taste. Coffee was cold by time food came so a second cup offered would be nice.

Visited the Vulcan today. Great wee pub with very friendly staff and a great atmosphere. My better half ordered the chicken burger and I had the beef burger. Great quality and very tasty. Will visit again

I ordered eggs benadict, never had it before so was a bit worried lol but ong it was stunning!! Only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 was because we walked in went to sit at a table and had to walk past the disabled toilet which the door was wide open 🤢 not the best view I have to say !!

Good, food was a bit slow on arriving, but the standard was Weatherspoons.

We eat here quite regularly, food is always great. Yes furnishings need updated, but give new owners some time. However if tonight’s visit was our first, we certainly would not be back. There was an elderly gentleman sitting, with younger men beside us. He was loud, with vile language, and his talk was derogatory to women. I voiced my concerns to a lovely young female staff member, who says he’s always loud and helped us to another table, at back of restaurant. Food as always was good. I had to speak to owner air my concerns, which didn’t prove helpful. He informed me the male I was complaining about is a very good regular customer , 10am till closing time, giving his business a lot of money. Said he will have a word with him, didn’t see that happen. Eventually when the younger men moved onto another pub, things improved. The owner needs to appreciate this is a family establishment, and loud foul and derogatory language is not welcoming.

Thought this was a wetherspoons but soon got told by the girl ar the bar it wasn't when I tried to get another coffee. Place is filthy. Tables sticky. Prices expensive. £1.50 for a coffee put of a "wetherspoons" machine and no refills. Terrible.

My husband and I ate here with friends on Thursday evening and the food was really good. I had the American burger which I really enjoyed,my husband had homemade steak pie which looked beautiful. The service was good and the staff very friendly, I would definitely eat here again.

The owner of the business is pro Brexit. Seeing that most of Scotland voted against it not sure why they still are in business in this country.

Place is getting worse manager Sam has ran most of the regulars out it Been a regular there for over 10 years n won’t be back he’s needing trained on customer service and how speaks to people he’s an utter disgrace on a so called manager think he’s taking manager to the extremes and giving him a big head. young lassies get the best customer service off him for some reason

Visited for a quick bite and didn’t feel all that safe. Didn’t see much social distancing between the staff and felt like the next table was too close. Won’t be returning.

Arrived for food at lunchtime, had to leave without being served due to the horrific smell coming from a large table of middle-aged gentlemen, none of whom were complying with social distancing. I'm quite sure one of them had actually soiled himself.

we had drinks here on Saturday evening sat outside and the service was excellent. We had to order on the app and within minutes it was at our table even though it was quite busy inside and out. They were also following guidelines very well.

When we entered the pub we got our drinks. We then stood at a table which had a reserved from 16.00pm. We asked if the table was still reserved as it was now 17.50pm. The bar person that we asked brought the manager over and he said it should have been reserved from 17.00pm and that the people who reserved it were still eating else where and would be there soon. We then asked if you can reserve tables for drinks now and said it was reserved and that was the end of it. He then walked away and made a phone call and came back to inform us that the people who had reserved the table were starting to come in and that we would have to leave the table. After we put a bit of a protest to him he walked away from us we then left our drinks and walked out. It seems to be that the management are reserving tables for there regulars as i have never heard of reserving a table for people who are eating else where then coming into the pub for drinks. As far as me and my wife are concerned we will not be in the pub again.

Staff were friendly and helpful, food was typical mass-produced catering fodder boiled in a bag. It was tasty though. Good selection of ales which was nice to see.Unfortunately the rest of the clientele left much to be desired. A table of ageing alcoholics sat right at the entrance, and were clearly all strangers to soap and water. One of which was an elderly woman who was quite intoxicated and in need of no more alcohol. Not the sort of thing you want to see or smell when eating your lunch. Language was inappropriate even by the standards of a jakey pub.Would be a far nicer atmosphere if the management had a clear out of the sort of customers who should be sitting on benches outside betting shops, growling menacingly at passers-by.

I was at this Wetherspoon's pub last week with my sister. We stopped off for some dinner and weren't disappointed. The food is actually cheaper in this pub than in others so we had two main courses with soft drinks and had change out of a tenner.It's not posh but the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is acceptable especially for the prices charged.

Not been here for years. Thought we’d pop in for a quick bite to eat with family and it was full of drunks with about half a dozen standing right outside the door smoking with stunk out the inside of the place. Really not nice atmosphere, it was like going into an old mans house that smokes like a chimney.

Fast decent breakfast as always excellent value. Can’t beat the value of this breakfast it’s a shame that it will be closing as a wetherspoons

Great selection of Ale. Great staff. Great value. Decent food. One of only 3 pubs in Coatbridge worth visiting. (The others being St A’s and Owens)If visiting with kids, sit to the right as close to the window as possible, unless you want to expose them to the language of the 11am club.

Plenty of choice on breakfast menu. Free coffee refills. Quick efficient service. Lovely runny poached eggs.

Having just been in to another local pub/restaurant and were not impressed, we crossed the road to Wetherspoons. It was busy, a good sign, and a little bit noisy. You order and pay at the bar, the service was quite fast, the meals were very good. Would definitely recommend for lunch.

Ann at the Vulcan is a fantastic attentive member of staff.I am in the Vulcan frequently with a young lady i support in my job role as a carer. Ann goes over and above to ensure everything is to our satisfaction and she really takes an interest in looking after us and engaging with us to give a personilised service. Thank you so much Ann we always enjoy our visits.

Ordered a baked potato with 5 bean chilli.. not thinking that the 5 bean chilli meant you get 5 beans on your potato..

This is a typical wetherspoons offering but better than the usual, staff are really friendly, food is good and actually cooked well, prices unbeatable so a winner every time for breakfast and great coffee!

Took a couple of Norwegian friends for a few drinks. They both enjoyed it. A good selection of beers at a great price and fine surroundings. I was insulated on the way to the toilets by a drunkered too, which made my day. Great.

Great place for food and drink. Prices are very reasonable and the food is well prepared and presented. Excellent for meeting friends and family. It is sometimes a little too busy but that goes to show how popular it is. Definitely visit often.

Better than many other Wetherspoons pubs I’ve been in as the staff seem to have been there a while ... had breakfast there Sunday morning and wasn’t really looking forward to it but was pleasantly surprised.. I wish all Wetherspoons pubs were like this one

Happened to be in town when the curry evening was on. Think it is every Thursday. At first was a bit sceptical not knowing how hot the curries would be but was assured they cater for all tastes. It arrived piping hot (heat not strength) and was extremely tasty. This must be the best Rogan Josh I had eaten outside of the Middle East where I lived for many years. Absolutely beautiful. My wifes vegetable was just as good. Poppadoms and naan bread completed a great meal.

Went into the Vulcan tonight to socialise with friends not even to drink,I hadn’t even walked in a minute and one of the servers came marching over demanding to see ID. Which is fair enough but his attitude was terrible and he was so rude to me, I didn’t have ID with me and told me too leave. He watched me until I left. Fair enough I had no ID but his attitude was horrible and I will not be coming back again. No need to treat someone like that

This Wetherspoons is very small compared to most others and in an ugly building. Went in for lunch and they didn’t have any hotdogs which was what I really wanted. Then, they didn’t have the J2O I wanted (always available in other Wetherspoons). The food was fine though. It was very quiet for a Sunday lunch time. Not the best atmosphere but the staff were good.

Went for Breakfast ordered Full Scottish if you have a big appetite you will find this very fulfilling. If you dont dont even try to attempt it. Everything was freshly cooked we both enjoyed it

I was on a business trip and the hotel restaurant was closed so I was advised to pop over the road (literally!) to The Vulcan for some dinner. It was a quiet Monday evening, so service was very quick. I had a lovely chicken wrap (quite spicy!) and a cracking pint with lovely staff.

Great freindy service from the staff go out there way to make you feel welcome Great Food, very great prices.

Stopped off the other day for breakfast. Just arrived as it opened up. Got a friendly welcome and proceeded to use the app to order our breakfast. Large breakfast, roll bacon and pancakes. Heard the ping when I sent the order coming from the bar area and a few mins later it arrived. Unlimited coffee is a bonus. Well worth the money.

I had no choice but to eat here as our hotel restaurant shut at a ridiculous time and they sent us over. The staff were pleasant and efficient. I ordered a salad with chicken and avocado. It was nice all fresh and chicken was tasty....

You just can’t beat a wotherspoons breakfast! Great food, inexpensive and unlimited tea and coffee now, friendly staff as well! Result!

This is a wetherspoons with a bit of a difference, for a start it's smaller than the average and has more of a local community feel to it, decor needs updating, decent prices, average food, quick attentive staff, non sticky tables, welcoming fireplace, even car...

Popped in here for morning coffee whilst on the area. Barca taffeta were friendly enough howwver the place looks like it hasn't been touched up since the day it opened.

First time back in Coatbridge for about 5 years Have been to the Vulcan before but only for a drink . This time decided to try the food menu all three meals were given the thumbs up .Pleasant staff and tables cleared quickly when they were vacated . May call again before going home

Jumped in for a quick beer before meeting friends , if ud blindfolded me id have guesses i was in an old folks home , the smell of ammonia would choke a horse , the selection of beers is great and all at low prices but the regulars are all abt 80 or just barred from everywhere else , typical wetherspoons , feet welded to carpet if u stand any longer than 30secs in same position , old guys hoggin a table for4 to themselves n the odd addict jumpin into the bog to fill there needs !
