No Otter beer, barman had no idea why. Barman continually mopping the floor. Said they were closing at give me your last orders at 9:30PM. No lemon available for G&T. This is no way to treat customers.....Looks like it's going to be a fail again. Pub interior been upgraded nicely but basics of having good bar staff ignored...without this no chance of the Vivary being successful....very disappointing!

Sunday roast has got to be the best in Taunton, everything is cooked to perfection, make sure you're super hungry when you visit because the portions are huge, amazing value, so good I've been back & will continue to do so in the future

Had a brilliant Sunday roast and so much of it staff were very friendly will say one of the best roasts I've had in a long time crackling on the top was so crispy as well

Waited 15 minutes at the bar. Starters could be better. Mains very good. Seating uncomfortable.

Organised a group meal here for a Sunday Lunch, the food was lovely and the staff were all really friendly and helpful, looking forward to going again soon

Had a lovely meal last night, even though they had big tables in they were very lovely and accommodating. Couldn't fault anything, the food portions are very good, food was amazing, staff are very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend and will be returning.

Disaster... Couldn't sit in the 'comfy' chairs in top part of the dining area because the bloke messing about with the fire wanted to use that area to put his Xmas Decorations when they arrived. So although 2 of us had very obvious mobility issues we had to make it down steps to the lowered dining area. (we were the only 3 customers in the place btw). Ordered drinks while looking through the menu. All of us decided on fish and chips, only to be told they didn't have any fish, not one piece on the premises.. What pub chain runs out of fish for goodness sake, frozen fish keeps for ages in the freezer. Wish they'd told us about what was off the menu before we ordered our drinks. Atmosphere in there was dire, so we left. Not one member of the staff we saw managed to say goodbye or apologise. Reply to the Vivary Arms. We were most definitely told we could not sit in top dining area. We did leave by the same door you were using to bring your Decorations in, as we were the only people in the pub it didn't affect anybody else and because of mobility issues it meant we didn't have to walk through the bar area to get to the door we entered by. The closing of the passage way to the toilets was mentioned because now it's a long trek to the loos. Wasn't a criticism, just an observation. The Vivary has been the family local since the days of John and Telly and everyone else since. Just afraid on this occasion it didn't meet our expectations. No need to further reply, hopefully our next visit will be better.

Nice back street pub, recently refurbished to a good standard. Couple of hand pumps on offer, otter ale and sharps room bar.

Went for lunch today very tasty meal , lovely and hot , waitress service excellent would highly recommend the Creme Brulee . Staff very friendly keep up the good work guys your doing a great job👍

Under new management now after being closed for a while. Not had the food yet but the menu is quite good & at good prices.

Had a nice pint of real ale, bar staff very friendly but I was very disappointed that they had not made a effort to tidy up the beer garden for the summer trade 😢

This lovely place could do with some tlc ,the beer garden running in weeds and over grown ,the member of staff wore a cap all night and sporting a love bite on his neck and made sarcastic comments about customers under his breath while pulling pints,it's a real shame it's gone so down hill

Really nice pub, very friendly and cosy atmosphere. Was there watching this guy called Jules Cooper, he was really good and a fab evening was had by everyone 😀

A backwater pub, which has recently been bought and is in the process of being renovated by the current owners. We popped in (after dropping off our daughter elsewhere) for a quick pint. It was quiet, but a few locals welcomed us into the bar room, politely and jovially, where we ordered a drink. As the bar room is reasonably small we walked around the back of the bar area and sat in what appears to be a restaurant, although no food was being served, to be able to intimately chat. I surmise this was a lovely pub in its day, and still is now, but the decor needs updating. The one thing, above all else, that will make us return is the statement by the barmaid that it was "lovely to meet you and hope to see you again soon!" as we left. A very friendly place and we were made to feel at home. Thanks guys!

I'm the landlord and a beautiful pub.

Awful service by the lady who served us. No pleasantries and was incredibly rude when she asked for our meal order. She spilt gravy over a member of our party and when we asked for a cloth to wipe it up she said wait a minute in a frustrated tone. When she returned with some kitchen towel she did not make any attempt to apologise. When one of us said an apology would be nice she replied" if you want to give me attitude you know where the door is" at this point we upped and left as this is not the service we expect. On top of this the place looked very run down and the attitude of the member of staff really put us off our meal. My recommendation is not to go here.

I went last night, the new owners were great, very nice and friendly. Just what you’d expect from a Somerset pub 🍻

We were here 1 week after it was taken over. The owners were brilliant and so welcoming. Their son was so excited to see people and showed us to the beer garden area. This was all matched with an excellent Sunday roast dinner, in fact, the best roast we have had at a pub in all our years of trying different places. I'm sure that once the Vivary is up to speed it will be exceptional. We will be back to eat here when visiting down Taunton again. 5 stars at least.

Good old pub, near Hobart Park. Cosy rooms with low ceilings.

Great pub with a good selection of well kept beer and half a dozen wines. The food was not adventurous but good well priced pub fair. We had an eater with a multitude of food allergies and intolerance s that they had not been warned about. But they went out of the way to suggest alternatives and accommodate.

Been going here for a Christmas meal for years. Always ordered off their normal menu but this year there was only a Christmas menu. Food was ok, nothing special.

It’s a local pub selling for locals, but still nice and friendly, food is quick and very nice just a real pub .

What was for years a thriving pub, in a nice residential area , has changed hands and gone right down hill! The place is empty in the evening whereas it used to be hard to get a seat with lots of people eating. Not anymore, the kitchen closes at 8pm, whereas it used to be 9pm, closing the kitchen at 8pm is going to cost them a lot of custom, as will the limited uninspiring menu. Such a shame, it used to be a thriving pub.

Not impressed with the management who were rude and could not care less about the service. Beer was badly looked after. The food was okay but don't try to use Meerkat Meals for more than two people. I understand that the pub has chant hands recently so I hope that things might improve.

It used to be my favourite pub; i used to enjoy the pubs food, now they're ruined them menu. There used to be an amazing snack menu plus an array of pub classics. Its now a cheap (not meaning the price) looking tacky menu, which doesn't even have ham egg and chips on it! It almost feels like they're trying to push out all the old regulars. There are few meals on the menu that resemble what used to be there, but just look like bad adaptations to what was easy enough to make.

Ok, but needs a bit of an update.

Called in while out for a bank holiday fresh air walk, received s very friendly welcome, good ales and sampled the light launches. menu (vegetable curry) which was fine well presented. A perfect refuel to allow me to enjoy the rest of the days walk!

Great couple of hours stop off after a long day of playing golf and tennis. Excellent food and beer. Nice out of town friendly local pub with big beer garden. Want to escape the wetherspoons and town centre Saturday night typical drunk youths it's worth the walk here. Excellent service and waitress was amazing rekindled my faith in the youth of today. Will definitely visit again on my travels! Owners very friendly and helpful behind the bar. How pubs used to be and should be.
