I've stayed at The Corner House in Taunton a few times now, and it's always a bit of a mixed bag – but in a charming way. Each room has its own character, complete with creaks and groans that give the place real personality. On this visit, my room was spacious, but unfortunately had a strong smell of cigarette smoke when I arrived. I had to open all the windows and use some deodorant to freshen it up – not ideal, but manageable. Still, I love the thoughtful touches, like the small glass bottle of milk in the fridge for tea and coffee – a lovely change from the usual UHT sachets. Some rooms are more modern than others, but that’s part of the charm. The Wi-Fi was fine – no issues with connectivity, though the speed is pretty average. Parking is £5 overnight, but be warned – the car park is small and, let’s just say, “interesting” to get in and out of! You'll understand what I mean when you try it for yourself. It can be a bit of a squeeze. Where The Corner House really stands out is the food. I had the minute steak with garlic butter and fries for dinner – really tasty. Breakfast was just as good – cooked to order and very satisfying. All in all, despite a few quirks, it’s a place I keep returning to – and for good reason.

Tiny room with bare minimum amenities. Not at all worth the price of the rooms. Be aware that this is one of the "do not book on Booking.com" hotels. As with lots of hotels, you will get a better rate and/or free breakfast and such by booking direct. Breakfast here is £17 each, so the free breakfast is a substantial savings by booking direct. The hotel is ok, but not what I expected for the price and the look of the building. Room is just big enough for the bed and one suitcase

Really pleasant stay last night, service from reception on arrival was 1st class and very attentive waiting staff at Breakfast which was amazing. Room was in the Annex and only quibble would be the bed was 2 singles pushed together rather than the Double I assumed when booking. Would defiantly stay again.

Just had a Mother's Day lunch. Pretty disgusting food served cold. Lamb roast was just fat not edible. Roast potatoes uncooked hard and cold. Cauliflower cheese hardly any cheese in the sauce. Expensive rubbish. Considering they advertise the best roast in Taunton.

Really helpful and friendly reception, bar and cleaning staff. Only complaint is the fridge is next to the bed in room 25, and it kept me awake. But room great.

This is a fantastic find in Taunton! We hosted our wedding reception here, and all our guests stayed for two nights. From start to finish, Rachel and her team provided exceptional organisation and support. The rooms were comfortable, though a few fridges could benefit from an upgrade. The annex was a lifesaver, allowing all our family members and children to stay together in one block. The team was incredibly accommodating to all our requests related to the wedding reception, ensuring everything went smoothly. The venue itself was stunning, and the food served during the reception was absolutely brilliant! We couldn’t fault their service at all. It makes us wonder why people spend so much on barns or other venues when this lovely place offers so much more. Our guests especially appreciated being able to retreat to their rooms later in the evening for a quick rest before rejoining the celebrations. On the day of the reception, the staff were attentive and ensured all our requests were addressed promptly. Even when settling the bills, the team demonstrated honesty and integrity, which we truly valued. Overall, it’s a fantastic place to host a wedding reception or any celebration. The venue, the service, and the rooms exceeded our expectations. We loved every bit of it!

I am writing a further review following a family dinner we had at the hotel last Saturday the 13 April. We were a party of 9 and everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the food and also the service, which was first class. Emma and the team did a great job looking after us. The head chef is a credit to the hotel, the menu had some great choices and we are looking forward to returning soon. Thank you to all for making our evening a memorable one.

Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were very clean, food was lovely. Only slight negative was the rooms were absolutely boiling, I had to turn the radiator off and open the window and was still struggling but some people like that I suppose

This place is a good 30 minutes walk from the train station. Rooms are small and compact which isnt an issue. However the noisy fridge was, the creaking floorboards was, and being woken up this morning just after 7am by some loud banging was not appreciated. Breakfasts were small, but cost a lot. Didnt have much to do with the staff.

On entering the reception girl, was lovely and welcoming and allowed me to make changes to my breakfast time. Room 7 was lovely and the milk bottle was good. The bed was like sleeping on a fluffy cloud, it was great. The window is original and thin so take earplugs and the drain lid is loose in the road making a banging noise with each vehicle that drives over it. The shower screen is way too short and the floor gets wetter than the crowd at a Justin Bieber concert and water sprays from the shower pipe-head connection not ideal. The soap was nice. The whole building is full of character and the original part dates back to 1800. Breakfast is cooked fresh and is small if you’re a fatty, the black pud was overcooked and the fried bread was like biting into glass but the sausage and mushrooms stood out to be high quality. The continental choice is very limited but the mini jars of jams etc are cute and collectible and the bottled juices were a lovely touch. The tables are laid beautifully and give a high class feel. Be careful entering and exiting the car park, the average car has only 3 spare inches each side before you are scraping the walls like a mad man. I’d love 3 spare inches and so would the wife I know I know! The location was great too being a 13 min stroll into town and close to all amenities. Thank you team I will return.

Nice location in the town which is a short walk into the centre. Good evening and breakfast meal. Our room could have done with an update to the room and the bathroom. Staff were great and secure parking overnight at the cost of a fiver.

Nice little pub in a great location with a nice carport for hotel guests. Wifi is shockingly poor and the water pressure is just a trickle, this could have been as I was on the top of the building but really just need a hot water tank on top floor with a water pump. BreKfast was nice little disappointing it was continental only but there was a good selection.

Told 45 minutes for delivery when it’s been 1h 30 minutes and that after being charged £3 delivery !!!! Called the restaurant to be told by the same guy that they have other deliveries then put the phone down. Not a good first impression at all.
