Lovely outside seating area with view of the Minster. Seriously good flat white. Very friendly to humans and dogs. Enough said.

We visited York for the day as a family of 8 adults, we came across this very quaint little tearoom away from all the hustle and bustle, close by to York Minster. Upon arriving the lovely lady behind the counter was very accommodating and said she could seat us all together, which was really nice as it is very small inside. All the cakes, scones etc were all homemade and beautiful. They were only serving drinks and cakes on Friday, maybe with it being bank holiday weekend? I don’t know?! Everywhere was lovely and clean. Everyone enjoyed their cakes and drinks! The lady, as I say was lovely, the only thing spoiling this place is the very rude gentleman server! Hence the 3 stars, He completely lets this place down and spoiled our experience with how he spoke to my dad! Very very rude, I wouldn’t go back because of his terrible attitude when all my dad tried to do was help him! You need to learn some customer service skills 👎🏻 Five stars for the lovely lady and I’m guessing, her establishment?! He let a lovely place down!!!!

Sat outside, a lovely view of the Minster, sipped on coffee and tucked into some cake. I had a simple yet effective brownie. I don't think it's the best quality ever, but don't get me wrong - it isn't bad. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Just not blow-your-mind amazing quality. Not badly priced though and very friendly service. Definitely come for the view/experience of sitting outside.

Don’t get me wrong, this place is in a great area to admire the amazing minister of York. Also, the cup of tea that I had was lovely but the staff weren’t particularly friendly. Decent little cafe but nothing special.

If the day is sunny Go no further, sonny A splendid view on the outside seats of the Minster’s west window. (Largest stained glass window in Europe Im told) Top tip: Pretty grassy area opposite to relax for free if you grab a take out coffee and don’t fancy being tempted by a cake.

This afternoon tea was booked to celebrate a friend’s special birthday. We were so looking forward to it. As soon as the afternoon tea came out we knew straight away that the cakes were shop bought 😢😢none of us said anything as the birthday girl had paid £100 for the 5 us and we didn’t want to upset her . On hindsight we should have complained. She was not a happy birthday girl. Such a shame as the lady who owned it was so nice . If you expect home made cakes don’t book 😢😢😢

We pre booked for afternoon tea here as the homemade cakes looked lovely and it looked like an old fashioned type of establishment, the location was perfect. ‘This wasn’t just any afternoon tea!’ A selection of sandwiches, hand cooked crisps and cakes with a hot drink. (We also then paid extra for cold drinks) We would NOT recommend coming here for afternoon tea unless you’re happy to have shop bought cakes , we feel a little disappointed as we had all looked forward to trying the homemade cakes which we could see on display for customers to buy at the counter. These cakes did not look anything like the ones we had been served, and our scones weren’t fresh they were dry. The cost per person was £20.00 which we thought was ok on booking but we realistically we would have been better off going to sit in the park with a picnic! Nicole was polite and chatty.

My friend and I stumbled upon this gorgeous little cafe on a beautiful sunny day. Sitting outside, view of the Minster, with a lovely cuppa and cake was just wonderful. Friendly lady serving, was very polite. The cake was yummy , we particularly like the lovely cups and teapot. A toilet was available which was clean too. We also like the fact that all the cakes on display where covered up, something we noticed wasn't always the case in other cafés we'd pased. So very hygienic. And the indoor seating area looked clean and pleasant too. Would definitely recommend.

If you get your kicks out of being treated badly at a café, then this place is for you, rude staff. The young lad working there on Sunday 2/4/23 quite frankly doesn't know the meaning of 'hospitable', and being in the hospitality industry, you'd think it vital. This was our first introduction to York, fortunately it was an isolated incident, the rest of our time in this lovely city was great, full of nice friendly shop keepers and café owners. So I would suggest you just avoid The Vintage Rose.

This small cafe has a window seat that overlooks the Minster! If that was not enough it is bursting with personality. We really enjoyed some scones and coffee prior to our visit to the Minster. Both were excellent and the service was also fist class. Recommended.

We booked last minute for afternoon tea. Great spot (right by the minster) and good value for money. We felt very well looked after by the staff.

My parents, dogs, and I visited last month whilst on holiday in the city and can't recommend The Vintage Rose enough! The service was excellent and quick and the owner was so lovely! Our food and drinks were excellent - easily one of the best hot chocolates I have had! As other reviews have said, the cafe is in a row of three, so ensure that you are in the corrects seats in the outside area. Will definitely be making a stop there the next time we are in York.

Good coffee and a wonderful view. Selection of cakes looked good too. A latte was £3 which is decent for York. Friendly too (not usual for York!).

Found this gem of a place and stopped for a cold drink and a treat of a delicious jammie dodger cupcake. The other choice was a chocolate orange cupcake that was amazing as well. This cute place is in a row of three with outside seating at the moment and the payment is at the door. Beautiful surroundings too. Can't wait for my next visit

Lovely little vintage cafe. This cafe is in a row of 3 that all share the same path and outdoor areas, so make sure you sit on the chairs for the correct cafe! Very good value for money. The weather was warm when we visited so we sat outside. We had our dog with us and he was welcomed by the staff and guests! Although we only had drinks, the cupcakes looked lovely! Drinks were served in takeaway cups - i presume this is because we were outside rather than indoors. China cups would have been preferred - but dont let that put you off! A good stop for a cuppa with views of the minster!

This is one of three cafes in a line on College Street. We sat outside at tables under the trees, very pleasant. Drinks and cake were fine. Milk for the tea came in a china jug

Incredible food and service! This was our first time at the Red Lion, we called in on a Wednesday lunch time as we were passing through the area, we expected decent pub grub, what we got was nothing short of the best lunch we’ve ever eaten! The garlic mushroom gratin is fresh, full of flavour and big enough for 2 to share! We then had the yorkshire puddings, one with beef, one with chicken - both were amazing. The portions are huge (they’re more than happy to give you boxes to take your leftovers home) the meat is very well seasoned and tender and the chips are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned perfectly - no need to add salt and pepper here! We will be back and we will be telling all our friends and family this place is worth the trip out … what a find! :)
