The Vine Indian Cuisine in Sheffield

We have eaten here for years but last nights food was shocking ,we all left our food,I had the lamb and it was like chewing leather and the service was aweful

Myself and my partner have visited the Vine twice previously, and although we have always found service to be slow (you're talking 30 minutes+ every time you ask for something, be that a drink, your food or the bill) the food has typically made up for it. However, our most recent experience has been truly awful and we would not entertain visiting, or ordering takeaway, from the Vine ever again. We arrived ahead of our booking time and were pleasantly surprised to be seated straightaway, albeit in a cold corner next to the fire escape as two tables were quickly being separated. Our drinks order was taken and poppadum's were provided quickly, but unfortunately it went down hill from there. There were 3 other couples in our section who had been waiting over an hour for their food, and a party of 4 next to us actually asked to move as the corner we were in was so cold. It wasn't just the waiting that was an issue, but it was the lack of customer care - not once did anybody check in with us or ask if we wanted more drinks - nothing. We felt like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. After we eventually ordered we waited 60 minutes for our starter, my partner asked for more cutlery, which after a further 10 minutes was literally thrown onto the table - no recognition at all from the waiter. Our starters arrived, and as we were about to begin to eat we were asked to move. When I highlighted the fact we had been waiting over an hour to eat and felt the timing was awful I was accused of being "rude", quite an irony considering the experience we'd received! We left after the starter, but even that had gone down hill, average tasting and barely warm when it arrived. Avoid this place like the plague!

Very rarely do I leave a bad review but from my experience this evening, I’d avoid this restaurant at all costs. Firstly, I booked in advance and stated I would need a highchair for my 1 year old niece. When we arrived and asked for the high chair, we were told ‘they were already booked out’ …… so where does my 1 year old niece sit whilst we eat?! Secondly, the rudeness of the staff was unbelievable. Two young boys in particular, clearly no training has been given or experience working with the general public. Asked what lager was on draft…and the young boy replied ‘look in the menu’ …. Fair enough if you don’t know, but it’s the way this comment was delivered. No people skills what so ever. Thirdly, it took a while for our order to be taken and then had to wait an hour for our food to be served. The food was bland and tasteless, 6 different dishes were ordered and the all tasted bland. No check back was done so I didn’t have the opportunity to point this out. Then our plates were cleared even though 2 members of the table were still eating. We asked for the bill, had to wait a further 15 minutes for this to be given. Disappointed as I had heard good things about the restaurant.

21/12/24 - Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Service excellent and waiter helped us decide what to eat and how spicy to have it. Food was marvellous and tasty. Cost for 4 people including drinks was £93, being Good Value. On leaving, waiter was proud to show us their awards cabinet.

First time visiting the vine. Although we had booked they didn’t seem to have a table reserved so had to wait for someone to finish. It was very busy. Although the service was a little slap dash , this could have been because of how busy it was. The food was excellent though so no complaints there.

Had a delivery yesterday at a cost of over £100 for 7 starters and 6 main meals which was priced ok.The starters were all fine but all the main meals were poor to say the least hardly any chicken in any of meals and all sauces were very watery don’t think we will try the Vine again

The best Indian cuisine I have ever had in 40 years of living in Sheffield !!! We visit regularly and both the quality of food and service provided by Mo and his team are as good as you will get anywhere !! Superb !!

A very average experience. Ordered at 17:45 delivery and was to be 19:01, arrived 30 mins late even though they had all that notice, food was average and somewhat bland too. Rice was watery too, how this place is award winning I’m not sure, had better from other restaurants nearby. Such a shame as I had good expectations of this place and I was massively let down. It’s bad when a Greggs tandoori baguette tastes better than the food here.

It's ok. Food is ok, not outstanding but tasty. Reasonably priced and staff very friendly but clearly in a rush to get closed considering the bill turned up and started clearing plates when one of us was still eating.

This was a takeaway and I don’t know what the fuss is about this place. Ordered poppadums they were soft. Curry wasn’t all that either. Had better curry’s

We took friends who live out of the city for a meal here, they were very impressed as we always are. Great food with fantastic service, their first visit will definitely not be their last.

The food here is absolutely top notch. Delicious and plenty of it, served by friendly helpful staff. We've never been disappointed by the food here and this evening was no exception.

Best Indian food we've had in a long time. I'd even drive the 40 minutes round trip to get a takeaway from here.

Delicious meal and brilliant service

We were the only diners there, midweek, had a good meal and a free baby Guinness each, we were celebrating my birthday. Waiter was extremely polite and attentive.

2 hours after ordering, just eat said my food was delivered when I called tiffing they was just waiting for curries to be cooked and it will be on its way, 2 hours to cook a curry. no thanks keep it! and y does it say the shop is permanently closed on Google, stay well clear!

The food was tasteless the meat was dry the bhajis were not fresh. It arrived half hour early after I asked for a timed delivery. My wife had only just walked in from work luckily. Won’t be back there’s better out there.

We haven’t been for ages but we had friends up from Cardiff and went there for our evening meal It was absolutely delicious we all had a different curry and we were all more than satisfied and the staff very friendly and caring would definitely recommend this Indian restaurant

REALLY tasty food as always with a great selection of vegetarian options, many available as either sides or mains. (I'd love to see a few more paneer dishes on the menu though) It took a little while to come but was well worth the wait & the delivery time was predicted upon ordering. Presumably they were busy & it's clear why! Very reasonable prices & we thoroughly enjoyed our meal with bonus leftovers for tomorrow. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're a curry fan!

The food was really great the atmosphere was amazing the service for the drinks was a bit slow because we asked a few times to different waiters for drinks and they never came

By far the best Indian meal that my husband n I have had fir a long time.

We go to the vine on a regular basis. The service is first class, the staff are friendly and treat everyone as if they are royalty. The food is spot on, little wonder that Ali wins awards. Just had Khala one of his signature dishes superb indeed.

Having been several times to the Vine it always ends the same - our bill comes before we’ve even asked for it or chance for dessert or coffee, I find this really rude and shall not be going for a while

Can honesty say this is the worst Indian I've had. Cola was flat and the mixed grill was poor.

Arrived at 22:05 on a Thursday looking forward to some amazing food after a hard day. Walked into the restaurant to find out they had decided to shut down the kitchen as it had been quiet. Advertised to be open until 23:00, regardless of amount of customers this is not acceptable and the attitude when challenged was horrendous. Avoid 😡

Great meal. Took my son for his birthday. Good price, food tasted fantastic can't wait to go again.

Staff are incredibly nice. Pickle tray is very pureed. Even the lime pickle. Some people love this, I prefer a few more chunks in the lime pickle and mango chutney but to each their own. Still very tasty! We had to wait in the bar area after this as the waiter accidentally tripped and split a while pint over the table. It happens. Poor lad looked terrified. Manager dealt with it and no dramas. Starters were delish. Mixed starter so onion bhaji, kebab and potato thing. Very very tasty. Main course was delish but, ironically compared to the poppadom chutneys, very chunky. Big chunks of peppers and onion etc. Would happily return.

First time ordering & really enjoyed the food. Good selection of vegetarian dishes & each one was tasty. Appreciated the dansak having a slight kick to it. Yum! Thank you Spice Tree.

First Class. Second to none.. whilst I don’t want to blow smoke up their - - - - On arrival @ 19.30hrs the restaurant was rammed out with every nationality under the sun.. No need to write anymore as this explains it for itself….. albeit I want to tell you how good this place is…. It’s no wonder it’s rammed out.. Everything about the Vine is what you want & would expect.. PERFECT.. We will definitely be back..very soon & have shared our experience with our close friends..

4 of us ordered a takeaway .. what can i say !! ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING !!! Never tasted anything so disgusting, The food was cold on arrival, the mushrooms in the mushroom rice were slimey tinned mushrooms, the onion in both bhuna were raw, the nan bread was soggy and gooy, non of us ate it !!! Was absolutely disgusting food, even my husband couldn't eat his curry and thats something that never happens, we all ended up throwing it in the bin !! NEVER AGAIN !!! £70 wasted !!!! Xx

The food spoke for its self it was absolutely Amazing, Mo helped us to choose our meals as we wanted something different to our usual choices & he got it spot on for us, the restaurant was busy but they still managed to get us a table at short notice & to top it off the staff were great & we didnt have to wait long between courses ... Cant wait until next time, it won`t be long.

Amazing tasty food had 3 course meals with lots of poperdome and pickle trays , the restaurant was busy but the staff still remained very professional polite and very helpful . 2nd time of visiting will be going again 😊

Ordered food for collection at 6.30 we turned up an hour later @ 7.30 they kept in contact with us nothing was a problem fantastic service and wonderful food

Service was abysmal, could hardly hear the server over the blasting music, table and menus were dirty, took 40 minutes to actually order by that time we decided to leave, then took an additional 15 minutes to get the bill which we had to seek out. I understand slow service on a Saturday night but tables that came after us were getting their orders taken, seems like we were just forgot about. Shame.

5 Star Food, 5 Star Service, what's not to love!

Had a meal at the vine last night and it was amazing! Tandoori chicken platter and mixed vegetables was absolutely gorgeous!. The restaurant was full and and had lovely atmosphere. All the staff are so attentive and friendly . The owner remembered us from last visit and came over to see if everything was ok and chatted to us and that makes a difference. Its the small detail that makes this restaurant and I definitely recommend it!. Thanks all the Vine team xx

We ordered a takeaway tonight for my mum’s birthday. It was so so disappointing. Two dishes tasted completely bland, we all had to add lots of seasoning which felt really weird. Very minimal flavour!

Absolutely horrendous over 3 hours for a delivery lied to me on the first phone call after 2 hours when food finally arrived it was stone cold there was a Prawn in a chicken dish and it was sub standard based on previous orders extremely disappointed with both food and service

Came here for a birthday celebration as quite a large group. Everyone was so lovely, service was great and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend

So this is a lovely Indian restaurant very clean and tidy place, with more than helpful staff, but the food wasn't great, it was ok but 😕 I would go again if friends and family was going but to be honest I've been to alot nicer places.

Really disappointed tonight. 50mins late on a preorder is a joke. The curry sauce for my biryani has no sauce it was just a box of mushy veg. Shame as last time it was lovely. We won’t be back anytime soon.

Fantastic. The best Indian meal we've had in the UK. The restaurant is clean and cosy. Mo was welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was outstanding. I had a very spicy, hot, and tasty rezala and Elena had a cheese and chicken dish. Everything was well presented and delicious. Highly recommended.

We had curry on Sat evening in the restaurant all 3 curries were very bland, veg rice was greasy, lager shandy was flat we sat in the top area with no radiators(very cold)the men's toilets need modernizing

Ordered our carryout on line which was straightforward. On arrival, only waited few minutes before meal was ready. Very pleased with the quality & quantity of the food, most enjoyable. Thanks.

Had a takeaway tonight. Where can i begin! Lets start with all cold even though i live just around the corner! Starter - mixed kebab, 2 pieces of tough lamb tikka, 2 pieces of chicken tikka, dry and a sheek kabab, no taste! For the price paid... disgusting! Main course, Naga chicken tikka, half filled the foiled tray... must be paying for half portions!! So mild for a naga, lot of chicken tikka but so dry and hardly any sauce! Garlic nan bread... no garlic just plain!! I dont normally review restaurants but this needs reviewing.... seen so many good reviews for eating in the restaurant.... but do not have a takeaway..... must be a different amatuer chef.... or trainee!!!!

Won't be using these again. The driver was rude and told my partner he should charge him £10 for delivery cos we live a couple miles away from the take away. Even tho just eat said it was close enough to deliver to us and it wasn't even the most expensive delivery charge as can't of been as far away as other places they deliver to. Con artists as drivers and very intimidating if your a female on your own. And food was sub par at best. 1 out of 10 and only reason it gets a 1 as it was on time.

Nice little restaurant with reasonable prices. Food was good and tasty, but a little thin/watery for my liking. It was also quite mild for a Naga. Service was great however. In my opinion, there are better Indian restaurants within a few mile radius, Akhtars (Killamarsh) and Safa (Hackenthorpe) for example, but the food here was nice and reasonably priced.

RESTAURANT DOESNT EXIST. ORDER WENT INTO THE VOID, WAITED 2 HOURS FOR FOOD, CALLED THE NUMBER LISTED AND IT WAS A DIFFERENT COMPANY SAYING MY ORDER WASNT LISTED

Rang up last minute. Got us in fast. Absolutely wonderful food, staff are lovely & to say we enjoyed it was an understatement. It was one of the best meals we’ve had out in a very long time. Would highly recommend 5*****

The Vine did a great job for a group celebrating a big birthday for my wife. By arrangement we booked a table and pre-booked the meals. The great team got the order spot on. Did not rush anything giving us the right amount of time for a good catch up. Everyone complimented how good the food was. Despite the large order everything was nice and hot as it should be. The pre order allowed them also to split the bill accordingly.

Absolutely lovely place with attentive and friendly staff. The food was amazing. I had one of the chefs special Bangladeshi dishes and the flavours were so fresh and zingy. Best Indian food I've had in a really long time!

Delayed delivery. Dishes not as ordered. So, we ordered at 17.50, and asked for a 19.00 delivery. It arrived at 19.45. Only offered a 10% refund for the delay. The Chapattis were doughy and under cooked. Both currys ordered, we requested at Madras strength, but we're only slightly spicy. The Naan Bread looked and tasted like something you'd buy from a supermarket. Rather than a nice stone baked glazed one you'd expect and as previouslyreceived. Overall, bad delivery, bad service, mediocre food. Won't be ordering from there again.

We ate here 2 nights in a row while staying in the area and chose medium dishes which had plenty of flavour but were not overly hot. The ghee rice with ground nuts was great although this is the other name for peanuts rather than nuts which have been ground. My husband says it's the best Indian meal he has ever had. We wish it was closer to where we live.

It was 25 minutes late, it was cold, Naan bread was the size of a chapati. The onion and salad that came with the poppadoms was a token gesture. I wouldn't have bothered. Very, very disappointed.

Ten of us enjoyed a family birthday meal here on Sunday afternoon with ages of our group ranging from 14 to 80 plus….everybody really enjoyed their meal from the kids korma’s to the spicy Jalfrezi, the food was excellent; freshly prepared with none of the artificial ‘neon’ colours that you find in some restaurants. The staff were attentive but not hovering over you, the Vine have got the level of service just right. Friendly & reasonably priced with a great atmosphere, the best Indian restaurant in the area …we’ll definitely be going back!

Cannot comment on the service as we had a delivery. Very disappointed the mixed kebeb starter it was practically none existent 3 small peices of something very soggy, the onion bhaji was flat as if someone had sat on it. The mains were tasteless and luke warm hardly any chicken. This is our 2nd delivery and last.

Four of us went for a birthday celebration on Thursday, and we had a great meal. Myself and my partner have high standards when it comes to Indian/Bangladeshi food, and we all thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful we ate. The staff were courteous and welcoming, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The prices are very reasonable, and we will be back. Thank you so much.

I’m not sure what the hype is all about. To start this is Bangladeshi food guaranteed not Indian. The lamb madras which I ordered was extremely poor, basically, it was a pre made base gravy sauce and meat thrown in. Very thin and sweet with a little spice kick, way off what a madras should taste like. Service from staff was ok. Atmosphere good.

Usually our go to Indian takeaway, but tonight’s was 0/10. Delivery said it would take 40 minutes, however it took 1h30m. Food arrived luke warm, curries didn’t taste of anything and hardly any meat in them. Won’t be ordering again, very disappointed.

The food is mostly nice here but always takes about 2.5 hours. The delivery driver also insisted we owed him delivery money even though we had paid on just eat. He said they don’t deliver to S13 as it’s too far out. We have ordered from here multiple times but scared to now after the extra charges they try steal from you at the door!

Wonderful food, doesn’t matter if it’s take away or dine in! I have done both and really enjoyed this good quality food, I would highly recommend:)

Not very busy but friendly staff. Food was quick and of good quality and good value for money. Had a balti which was very tasty albeit quite mild. Might try something more spicy on my next visit.

Been in loads with wife and friends, first time in just with a mate.Summer so shorts n tshirt, greeted with"youre not getting starters or poppadoms just mains then go'"should've gone but we were starving,other service staff were excellent, food beautiful as always but why were we treated like that?lack of tip the waiters can blame on the man at the door,no need for it

Service was quick and we felt welcome. The reason for three stars is because the food was quite bland. The curries, the sides - everything lacked salt. You could say it is my own taste but we never had such issues at other Indian food restaurants we have visited. We had coconut rice which had no taste of coconut. Curries were also a bit too oily for my liking. However there were a lot of people at the restaurant so perhaps other people find the food enjoyable.

Very rushed service. Felt like they were trying to get us fed and out within 30 minutes. Staff came across quite rude. Food was not warm enough and when we mentioned it got a blank look from the staff. Restaurant was quiet so it wasn't like they were over busy
