The Vine Bar and Restaurant in North West Leicestershire

1. Booking a table- they unapologetically didn’t respond to my email or phone calls to try and book. We had to go in person so I’m not sure why they have the option to book online. 2. Arrival- got a lot of attitude on arrival. We were regrettably 18 minutes late but we were told they’d already taken all the extra chairs away and that they were waiting to hear from us. Not sure why because they hadn’t asked for any more info from us. 3. The drinks- the drinks were as expected but the pricing was not as sold. The online and bar menu both detail that there is a deal on Thursdays which is not available in December and a happy hour 2-4-1 deal every day at 5pm with no exceptions listed. Yet we couldn’t have 2-4-1 so this is just omitted on the menus by choice and completely misleading. Not coming back!

Prior to my booking I was told that the area I had booked seated 11 even though I only booked for 9. I walked in for my pre booked table of 9 and was after enquiring where my table was sat I was met with an extremely rude employee who expressed that we were over 30 minutes late (we were 18 minutes late). He then proceeded to say that the individual who had booked the table was meant to ‘get back to him’ and he assumed we weren’t coming so had put the chairs away. I myself being the individual who booked the appointment, knew this was a lie as I’d phone multiple times to confirm the time of booking after the confirmation email stated the booking was for 8:45 not 5pm. The area we were shown did in fact not seat 11 and barely seated 6, he then brought the chairs down that he had allegedly put away due to our tardiness. The website clearly stated that 2 for 1 cocktails were on offer but after inspecting the menu in the bar and asking staff we were informed it didn’t apply to December, which isn’t stated on the website. Overall extremely poor experience, wouldn’t give them the steam of my piss in future.

I visited the vine as part of a big group on a Christmas night out. The food was lovely, the staff were all friendly, and we all had a lovely time, would definitely visit again.

My friend and I booked a bottomless brunch as a birthday treat. Cannot recommend enough! It was great value at £30, we had 3 bottles of prosecco between us in our 90 minute slot. The food was excellent, really well presented and prepared to perfection. I had smoked salmon with smashed avocado then steak and eggs. I'm usually reticent about ordering steak out as many places overdo it, but mine was cooked exactly the way I like it. Chris was an entertaining and friendly host, very attentive and looked after us like we were VIPs! The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and spacious. We will definitely be going back soon.

I came here with my mum and sister for a bottomless brunch to celebrate a birthday. The service was really great, we were looked after by Chris who was very attentive and fun. We all raved about the food too and the price we paid for a starter and main plus our bottomless prosecco was brilliant. Would definitely recommend.

There’s not many places you can guarantee consistency of meals, drinks, and service, but the Vine consists delivers. This is our 3rd time partaking in their bottomless brunch offer and each time the food was top notch, the Prosecco keeps flowing and Chris and his team ensure you feel welcomed. Well worth a visit 👍👍👍

Exceptional service and food! We booked The Vine for a Hen Party on Saturday 29th July for 32 people .Upon prior to everyone arriving I went down to The Vine to set up the tables etc ,I was greeting by Megan who showed me to the restaurant to see if I liked the way that had set it up , it was absolutely fine I just asked for a couple of adjustments nothing major - just the tables to be a little bit more closer together, which she said was absolutely no problem. When everyone started to arrive we were greeting straight away with friendly faces who couldn’t do enough for us . The food was second to none, and came out altogether and was piping hot , it was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were really generous too. As it was for a large party we pre- ordered our food , from a 2 course set menu they had given us , which had plenty of choice for Starters , Mains and Deserts , that suited both meat and plant based options (This is what we asked for) A couple of people in the party are really fussy eaters but they didn’t complain about it and accommodated us accordingly. All in all the service, food and the decor was just amazing , and a credit to Davood and his team for making the Bride to Be’s day amazing .The cocktails were also amazing We will definitely return , maybe not such as a large group next time.

We decided at the last minute to try The Vine and we were not disappointed, I phoned ahead and Chris managed to find us a table, the restaurant was very busy but Chris was very attentive, he has a great sense of humour. Our meal’s were amazing (I forgot to take a photo) and our dessert was Devine. There was a great cocktail menu too, I can’t wait to go back and sample one or two. First night out after COvid restrictions. It was disappointing after having several cocktails and spending a lot of money that The arrogance and condescending nature of the duty manager made us cut our visit short and leave the venue and go elsewhere. After all of the struggle that the hospitality industry are going through I would have hoped they would make people welcome without trying to belittle them to make yourself feel more important!! Booked a table for food and then for cocktails after. Initial service for the food was fine. The restaurant was slightly cold I was considering putting my coat on. The room was way too dark, mum was struggling to read the menu. No complaints about the food, very nice. After paying for the initial meal and drinks, nearly £200 we went to the bar area. One female staff member very rude, death staring, snappy, no interest in the customers. It’s a shame we had already left a tip for the meal. How one member of staff can ruin the night and the potential reputation of a bar. Would of thought The Vine would be grateful for customers after lockdown, obviously not!

Not a great experience... we had the table for 1 hour and 45 minutes, which you would think would be adequate. It took around 10 minutes to take our drinks order, the menu’s given to us when sat down we’re incorrect, therefore we at to ask for the correct ones. It would have been at least 30 minutes from sitting down to taking our food order, food was good. Unfortunately when given the dessert menu, the waiter told us we had exceeded our time and we would basically have to order dessert and eat it quickly. The time it takes it almost all down to the service, in how quick orders are taken and drinks/food are served. I complained to the manager, explaining the slow service received and how they have made us feel it is our fault for being on the table longer than allowed. Strangely there was a table next to ours that arrived a few minutes before us and to my knowledge they were not asked to hurry or leave ext.I would not return based on the poor service and the action taken (none) when speaking to the manager. There are many good restaurants in Ashby, I’ll stick to the others.

Pre booked and shown to our table after clocking in. No mask use inside of the premises and not used by staff throughout and some a little too close.The meal was excellent a great portion of hot tasty delight.Overall a little noisy and I could see the problems with large groups in a tight area, some were good, some just loud and oblivious. I would visit again and fully recommend the restaurant, but I'll wait until the current situation has got under control. Overall value a bit pricey, but was definitely worth it.

Went Saturday to meet some friends who haven’t been out since before lockdown.Table booked for 5.30.Was wonderful to catch up but then just 10 minutes after ordering another bottle of prosecco and paying for it we were asked to vacate the table.There was no mention of a 2 hour stay when we booked. No mention when we ordered and paid for the next bottle.I don’t know many people that can drink a bottle of prosecco in 10 mins.Disgrace.Will not be returning.

Five of us went out for lunch today on the eat out to help out scheme, four had fish&chips, I had bavette steak! When the food arrived the fish was grey, as was the batter, the rustic chips were just frozen chips, my steak was so tough even a steak knife could not get through it, the peppercorn sauce, knocked your socks off it was so peppery & not a liquid but a solid! I complained & didn’t pay a thing for the five meals, thankgod! The eat out to help out scheme should have been a time to showcase your food, instead we will never return!

We gifted a voucher for Afternoon Tea earlier in the year and due to the COVID 19 situation, our family were finally able to use it in August. We have given this gift before and although the portion sizes have shrunk since the first time, it has always been gratefully received. This visit was far less enjoyable. First complaint that the portion sizes and quality of food have seriously declined. Small, stale sandwiches and half a dry pork pie were the savoury offerings, the fizz offering was one small glass, barely half full where it used to be a half bottle per person. The sweet offerings were ok and the lack of quality food wouldn’t have warranted a poor review, we would have simply not purchased another voucher from here. The main problem came when the meal had finished as the price of the Afternoon Tea had increased since we purchased the voucher, I assume due to the COVID 19 situation. I don’t necessarily have an issue with a price increase given the situation and it has been difficult for venues to stay afloat, however nobody said that the price had increased at point of booking nor at point of arrival but a churlish waitress loudly announced at the end of the meal that “there’s not enough money on the card”, the card being the voucher. Our family found this extremely rude and poorly handled, they argued that the voucher was for Afternoon Tea, not a cash amount but to no avail so they paid the balance and left. Subsequent messages through Facebook and email have been ignored and what was supposed to be a nice present was ruined by rude staff and substandard service. Our own experiences of the venue have been middling at best on our most recent visits our experience has included warm glasses, poor quality drinks and staff that are mostly concerned with looking after their own cliques and an obvious inability to deliver on their impression of a nice, upmarket Cocktail Bar / Bistro. Put simply, if you want great food nearby then go to Zamanis and if you want a great Bar then go to The Cocktail Bar / Maranello’s Wine Bar which are located behind Zamanis and The Monkey Tree is also a great choice. If you want to see what The Vine should aspire to be like then head to Amalfi Whites in Melbourne.

Visited here for the first time last night with my husband for our anniversary. The staff are wonderfully polite and welcoming. The venue had a friendly atmosphere and the food was gorgeous. We had no room for pudding (Although I liked the choices hubby wasn’t keen), and so glad we booked a later sitting time as this allowed more time to relax and enjoy our surroundings. We’ll definitely be returning

Note I’ve been there before for drinks and it’s always been good.It’s the first time I was here for food, for a group’s afternoon tea.We were seated in the downstairs function room - way too small for all of us. The upstairs room would have been better but perhaps it wasn’t available then.Scones were amazing ! Loved that with the clotted cream and Tiptree jam.However the tray of sandwiches and finger food, that we four to share, had poor choices. Sandwiches were tiny and the rest seemed “frozen and defrosted” rather than homemade.A bit disappointed, but I won’t return for that sort of occasion.

Went for afternoon tea for mine and my mums birthday. It was the worse one we've ever had. First impressions we thought we had walked in the back door but in fact it was the entrance. It looks very dirty and run down.Once we sat down we informed the waitress that we did not want any fish sandwiches, this seemed a massive problem as she said everything was already made. When it came out they had just removed them and left us with 2 tiny sandwiches each. I did not get offer any tea or coffee considering its afternoon tea I thought was very strange.We did not know what else we was eating as the waitress just dumped it on the table and left. The middle section had tiny bits of soggy bread with a paste ontop.The best thing about it was the tiny bit of pork pie and the scone was lovely and fresh.

A splendid a la carte menu, the food ordered was cooked to perfection, and tasted superb. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to all. The amazing cocktails are two for one also currently on a Thursday night.

My husband and I thoroughly our meal to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and cannot wait to come back to try the tapas. The rump steaks were cooked perfectly, and the chocolate, raspberry, praline dome was rich without being too over indulgent. Phenomenal cocktail menu! We are very happy we live walking distance :-)

It is not often that I can rave about brunch due to the lack of interesting vegetarian options. However the burrito at The Vine is an excellent exception. Order without the bacon and eggs and prepare to be impressed. Who knew that avocado and hash browns complimented each other so well!

We’ve just returned from having Christmas dinner at the Vine. What can I say . This is the first year we decided to go out for Christmas dinner, I’ve always cooked and decided I just want to relax and have a different experience, so decided on The Vine after reviewing the menu, as we only wanted to go somewhere local, so booked. I can’t fault the front of house staff, but I think the head chef has had his taste buds removed. My husband chose the soup, whilst the taste was ok, it was Luke warm, you were given the smallest piece of bread and no butter, I chose the breaded arancini mushrooms. They were dry and Luke warm. Not the best. But I thought ok maybe the main will be lovely. I was wrong. I had the turkey role dinner. This came with roast potatoes, 1 small sausage wrapped in bacon, a small amount of cabbage then two small thin pieces of stuffing along with carrots. The turkey role was dry, the roast potatoes were also dry and surprise surprise the vegetables were cold and tasteless. . My husband chose the beef, this came with three veg again, very small portions, with fondant potato. Whilst the beef was cooked ok, again it was Luke warm. The fondant potato was hard and the vegetables were tasteless . I would say the portions were child portions. I really can’t be bothered to say how bad the puddings were. For £75 a head we expected a really nice meal and was looking forward to going out to a nice restaurant and having a different take on Christmas Day. Thank you so much The Vine for spoiling this special day. I’ve come home hungry and upset by today. My perception is they just wanted to make as much profit as possible with no thought about the foods taste!!! This is our third visits and will be without a doubt our last.... Quite a nice meal, helpful friendly waitresses, however music not appropriate for restaurant diners- loud & clubby. An extra 15% 'tax' added to the bill. When we queried it the waitress tried to assure us 'it was not service charge but a tax like they charge abroad'. Not wanting to ruin an otherwise pleasant evening by causing a fuss we paid up, however I'd like to know what this extra charge was for-was 'tax' another word for 'service charge?

The waitress was lovely even if suffering from memory loss but the service was atrocious. After being seated it took 35 minutes to get our first drink, big mistake asking for tinned tomatoes not fresh (COMMONER) went downhill from then the porridge was Luke warm the pancakes very heavy but by the time they were served I would have eaten plastic ones.

Having visited here before for afternoon tea and enjoyed the experience we revisited again.... it was very disappointing.... the first time we came we had a lovely lemonade and fruit drink to begin followed by a selection of lovely sandwiches cakes and scones and cups and of tea and Eton mess....This time there was no lemonade drink, the sandwiches were plain ham, cheese and cucumber and plain smoked salmon on white bread... nothing special, no Eton mess, the cakes were ok and the scones were nice but there was no offer of cups of tea at all!!! Overall extremely disappointed and we will not be in any rush to return. On the plus side the staff were friendly.....

We hosted my sisters baby shower here today and cannot thank the staff enough for all the effort they made. It was a morning to remember, with a wonderful champagne breakfast, superb service and great surroundings. Food was great and service couldn’t be faulted. Thanks to Davood and his team

Went here for dinner with 4 friends and were rushed to order. Food was not good and each of us had something missing on the plate that was on the menu. We were never offered dessert and when we asked they said the chef had gone home. At the end of the evening they put the lights up without advising us that they would be closing soon. Cocktails were the one thing we were all happy about. Altogether disappointed, wouldn’t return for food but would for a few drinks.

Menu is not the same as advertised on their online page - service ok but not great - food ok - steak very good but cold chips - really gone downhill in the last year - won’t rush back

Absolutely awful. Wish I'd read the other reviews before planning a special lunch here. We went for an afternoon tea for 6 of us.

Absolutely fantastic selection of cakes (too many to mention) delicious raspberry lemonade perfect for a sunny day. Thoroughly enjoyed by all, sandwich selection was limited to egg mayo, ham & mustard ( not a fan of mustard) & pickle with some cheese (maybe ease up on the pickle), other choices may be preferred by some but the sausage rolls, pork pie were lovely & warm also great scones! Clotted cream would have enhanced it but definitely worth the money, pleasant surroundings for a great catch up with friends.

Just been for afternoon tea, lovely fresh sandwiches, warm nibbles, fab scones and a beautiful selection of cakes and petit four, lovely prossecco too! Our waiter was friendly and really attentive and helpful, The Vine are lucky to have him 😊

Great Atmosphere, decor, friendly service. Bit pricey but nice for special night. Great drink selection available. Not tried the food.

A group of 4 of us went to Tapas night last night. We were really disappointed as there was very little meat available. Just chicken and meat balls were on the menu and there wasn’t any meatballs available. We were booked in for 6.30pm!!! We have been to this Tapas night many times before and it was really good. The cost has now gone up to £30 for a couple including a bottle of wine. The food has definitely declined. Need to do better. The waitress was really nice but it didn’t make up for the lack of choice.

Visited on an extremely quiet Saturday night, so quiet we were the only ones in there!

Been for afternoon tea recently, and have got to say it was definitely not worth 12.95. If we were lucky we had the equivalent of 2 slices of bread each with cheap fillings in, and some soggy cakes. The nicest bit of it was the tea and the scone, although that didn't come with fresh cream it was in a jar. Looking at the pictures of others visits, the afternoon tea consisted of things like quiches and pork pies which would of been nice.

My work friend booked The Vine for my leaving do celebration. We had a really great time. Despite some members of the group being late, staff were very patient and we enjoyed sipping some cocktails while we waited. We had two big tables in the restaurant area and had the whole area to ourselves. Everyone enjoyed the food. O had the toasted muffin with salmon and it was delicious. The pastries we're.really lovely as well and nice they were served warm. Staff were friendly and helpful, despite some of my friends forgetting what they'd pre-ordered! Staff were very patient - thank you! I also moved chairs a lot to mingle with everybody, which didn't make it easy for staff, so thank you for bearing with me. Staff also happily took photos for us and we're just generally good humoured. All the food came out quickly and we were asked if we wanted more drinks frequently. Thanks for making it a special day. We will definitely be back!
